MS Excel 2011 pivot tables and Lion

Hi,
I run quite a lot of spreadsheets with pivot tables in MS Excel 2011. With the most recent version of Snow Leopard and all the patches from Microsoft it seemed to be working quite well. The minute after the upgrade to Lion, when I tried to refresh a pivot table Excel crashed, and it is crashing on every single file that I have. I also created new files from scratch, ran a new pivot table, and the second time I open the file it would crash upon refresh.
Apart from being extremely annoying, there seems to be no way around it for the time being; I really hope that with the next release of Office 2011 they fix it. Anyone has similar experiences or ideas?
Thanks,
Claudio

This is absolutely a problem after insalling Lion!  Office 11 was a great improvement over office 08 to handle pivot tables and now pivot tables are basically useless on Office 11, running Lion.  I confirm that munipulating pivot tables in Excel 11 causes excel to crash every time.

  • Excel 2010 Pivot Table VBA Not Refreshing Table

My company recently upgraded from Excel 2003 to 2010. I had VBA written to take source data and convert it into a number of Pivot Tables on a number of worksheets. It has been working fine for years. After upgrading to 2010 the VBA crashed. I tracked it
down to the fact that when my code was making changes to the Pivot Tables (changing fields, filters, etc...) the pivot table on the worksheet had no data, but the fields were there. I can manually go to the pivot table and manually refresh and all the data
    comes in.
So I tried adding the VBA code to refresh the pivot table, but the pivot tables will not refresh with data.
    I tried:
    ActiveSheet.PivotTables("WO Pivot").RefreshTable
    and
    ActiveWorkbook.RefreshAll
    And these did not work.
I also tried recording a macro for the manual steps to refresh and got:
     ActiveSheet.PivotTables("WO Pivot").PivotCache.Refresh
    This does not work either.
The PivotTable name is correct, but I tried using the number as well, and the name works for other code manipulating the the pivot table.
    e.g.:
    With ActiveSheet.PivotTables("WOPivot").PivotFields("Task Title")
          .Orientation = xlRowField .Position = 2
.Subtotals = Array(False, False, False, False, False, False, False, False, False, False, _False, False)
    End
With Why isn't this working? Is there another way to refresh pivot table data in 2010?
Thanks. P.S. I've tried formating this so it is readable, but it comes out garbled. Hope this looks better.

The solution above didn't work for me, but the following did the trick:
    ActiveSheet.PivotTables("WOPivot").PivotCache.Refresh
By the way, I identified it by recording a macro, then going on the Pivot Table that needed refreshing and pressing F9 to refresh it. The line of VBA code above was the result.
    Cheers,
    Marco.

  • Pivot tables and charts error: Please load datasource first

    hi all,
i am getting a error: please load data source first in rtf template , only for pivot table and charts(note: normal tables and fields i can insert )
    Please help me with this.
    Thanks and Regards
    Prakhar

Well... if you think and try long enough, you may find the solution .
The core problem is to reference to queried values not shown in the table/chart. And there IS a solution.
    Just use...
    NoFilter(RelativeValue([measure prior year_1];([year/month]);-12))
    ... instead of
    RelativeValue([measure prior year_1];([year/month]);-12)
NoFilter enables RelativeValue to reference to values not present in a table or chart, but available in the report .
From there on, you can define e.g. the starting point of the category axis of a chart by defining a local filter without losing values to be referenced .

  • Excel containing pivot table - Problem when opening

    Hi,
There is jsp that generates an excel with few pivot tables in it. In the open/save dialog, if I save the excel and open it, it displays fine but if it is opened up directly, it gives an error saying "Reference is invalid".
Note: The range for the pivot tables are specified using named ranges ( data is in different sheet from that of the pivot table ) ... but it works fine if saved and reopened.
just confused of this behaviour... any ideas would be greatly appreciated...
    Regards...

This seems to be a bug with the Excel. This works fine with Netscape and also should work fine with other browsers. In IE, the temp file is created with a file name that ends with a square bracket at the end( eg. myExcel[1].xls ) and this is contrary to the file naming convention of ms-excel ( should not contain '[' or ']' ).
Only solution is, open the excel file as inline...
response.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "inline; filename = myExcel.xls");Please advice if my perception is wrong or is there any other work around for this? I have tried using all types of headers when sending the response but nothing helps.
    To check this,
Create an excel file and try to save it with a file name that contains square brackets...
    Regards...

  • Pivot table and link to account record logs user out of OnDemand

    All,
I have created a simple accounts report using a pivot table. I would like the user to be able to drill down on the detail account record. I followed the instructions in Doc ID 454434.1 that describes how to do this without using an action link.
From the example, I created the following URL and inserted it in the account name column under data format using custom text format. The account id is also included, but hidden in the report layout.
    http://"@[html]"<a target=_top href=https://secure.crmondemand.com/OnDemand/user/AccountDetail?OMTHD=AccountDetailNav&OMTGT=AccountDetailForm&AccountDetailForm.Id="@">"@"</a>
The link is available in the finished report, but when I run the report from shared custom analyses and click on the link it logs me out of the application and returns me to the sign in page.
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,

When you execute it in firefox 3.6 you can't move the columns or rows. If you look at the error console of firefox you find an error in javascript:

If I execute it in explorer 8, it works fine.
    Is a bug???

It would be better if you can provide us with more information for this issue....
In PivotTable reports, you can use summary functions or customer calculations in value field. You can also create your own formulas in calculated fields and calculated items.
    Please refer to:http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/excel-help/calculate-values-in-a-pivottable-report-HP010382405.aspx?CTT=5&origin=HP005200663

  • Excel - Filters/Pivot tables

    Hi!
For some of our users whenever they export Viewer reports to Excel, they loose the filter options that available in the original Discoverer Viewer reports. However, for others such as myself this works fine.
Is there a configuaration option somewhere? Everyone is using IE6, Excel 2000, and have the Security settings for macros set to medium in Excel.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers,
    Martin

Unfortunately for what you want to do, hiding of rows does not hide the data from the formulas. This is true with the category functions as well the regular functions. Can you reorder the precedence of your categories to get the hidden stuff to not be in the subtotals? In other words if you have a category based on column A and a sub-category of column B, can you make B be the main category and A be the sub-category to achieve your results?

  • Multi-level UPCs (I can do as pivot table in Access and Excel, but not SAP)

I'm working for a shoe manufacturer. We've got inventory that can be grouped into "cases" as well as "open-case" in regards to UPCs. We're able to apply the UPC to individual items such as open-case stock OR case-only, but we can't figure out how we can add the groupings needed to add UPCs to individual items AND the cases associated with each shoe/size. Here's a little more detail: We sell shoes in cases, MOSTLY. Occasionally, we have a shoe model that will sell as open-case. The cases (which have a UPC) contain an assortment of sizes (each of which has its own UPC). We need to be able to access the information for the associated cases when looking at a product and when on a case, we need to see the make-up of the case - such as associated sizes, qty contained, and their respective UPCs. I know we could easily do this in Access or Excel using pivot tables... Is this POSSIBLE in SAP Business One???

You may check Sales BOM function to see if that meet your need. The case can be set up as an Sales BOM item.
    Thanks,
    Gordon

  • Problem with pivot tables connected to SSAS 2008 R2 in Excel 2010: "Excel found unreadable content in ' file_name '..."

    Hi,
I have such problem when I open in Excel 2010 14.0.7128.5000 (32 bit) a xlsx-file containing pivot tables and slicers connected to SSAS 2008 R2 cube:
    - Excel found unreadable content in '...'. Do you want to recover the contents of this workbook? If you trust...
And this text after clicking "Yes":
Removed Feature: PivotTable report from /xl/pivotCache/pivotCacheDefinition2.xml part (PivotTable cache)
Removed Feature: PivotTable report from /xl/pivotCache/pivotCacheDefinition3.xml part (PivotTable cache)

Removed Feature: PivotTable report from /xl/pivotTables/pivotTable3.xml part (PivotTable view)
Removed Records: Workbook properties from /xl/workbook.xml part (Workbook)
    What may be the reason?
It has become a regular at some point for files created in Excel 2013. But this file was created in the same excel in which I try to open this file.
    Thanks for help in advance.

  • Excel 2010 Powerpivot workbook constanly crashing when editting pivot tables

I have a quite large powerpivot work book that I store on dropbox.   If I want to add the same field twice I go tot  the normal pivot table field list and drop the field into the pivot table again.  This used to be fine.  I could
then make it show the difference form previous period or similar.   Recently after doing a couple of these or changing the number format excel just crashes.   I have tried rewinding my workbook version back to older versions and still the
    same issue.
I tried just taking a simple single sheet of data and creating a new powerpivot model. i then dropped a couple of measures on to the pivot table and then the same measures again form the regular pivot table field list. I then tried to change on of these
to show values as % column total and crashed. so the problem is excel not my workbook.
I have run the repair through control panel and run sfc /scannow but problem persists. In event viewer the error shows as

    Hi,
We can find the dump file after Excel crashed again. Please see the following steps:
First enable app crash dump collection by copying following words into notepad, saving it as dump.reg and importing
    it:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\localdumps\EXCEL.EXE]
    "DumpFolder"=hex(2):63,00,3a,00,5c,00,63,00,72,00,61,00,73,00,68,00,64,00,75,\
      00,6d,00,70,00,73,00,00,00
    "DumpCount"=dword:00000010
    "DumpType"=dword:00000001
    "CustomDumpFlags"=dword:00000000
    Then, open Excel
to repro the issue. If crash issue appeared, please find the crashdump file under c:\.
To further help you, please upload this file into Skydrive and shared the link here.
Also, you can try to analyze dump by yourself if you would like to:

  • Pivot tables in excel with Live Office

Once I save a business objects XI R2 web intelligence report to excel format and schedule to users the excel which the users receive should have pivot tables and users should be able to add any fields of their choice in the report and view it similar to the excel pivot tables. As far as I know I will be able to achive this functionality using Live Office. Is there any other way how I can achieve this and also has anyone worked on this kind of requirement and can confirm this will work without any issues with live office?

It is not possible to schedule the WebI reports in Excel format and use a predefined excel template for this.
What your users CAN do is to add their own pivot tables from the scratch in the excel file that was generated and delivered to them according to the schedule.
What you can do is use LiveOffice (have to install the plug-in on all user workstations though), bind the instances and deliver your users an excel file, which uses liveoffice to bind the scheduled webI report instances (eg. the latest instance). Your users can add the desired pivot table functionality on their own or you can predefine this in the excel file yourself.
Which version of BO do you use?
