Excel import wizard

Hello,
I would like to import excel files by using a configuration file. Normally I do this using the Excel import wizard. I want to find out if it is possible to write a command in the script so I can just drop in any excel files and it automatically adjust.
Does anybody know how to do this?
greets,
Robert

Hi Robert,
There is no way to automate the creation of the STP file that I know of, short of using ASCII commands to build up the STP file from scratch, and I don't have any information as to the structure and contents of the STP file.  I know some customers have worked on this with the ASCII Wizard and resulting STP files, but I don't know how to help you do it.
If your Excel files are not too big, you, might consider instead building the desired intelligence into an import script or a DataPlugin, and in both cases it could be built on either ADO technology or ActiveX technology.  With this approach you could evaluate cell-by-cell and reject any empty cells or import the file differently depending on what values you find in particular cells.

  • Excel import With Sequance Value

    Hi
I need to import data From Excel, but how i can set primary key from a Sequence value??

You do it from outside the Excel -> Import wizard in SQL Developer.
Define your table so your column is populated by a sequence. You can do this via an INSERT TRIGGER.
When you define your Import scenario, leave the ID field alone, i.e. set it such that no values are passed, then your trigger will fire and the sequence.nextval will be used.

  • Data Import Wizard from Excel on DATE column

I have exported data to a csv in Oracle SQL Developer and one of the columns are of an Oracle Date datatype. In opening up Excel I see the Date column represented as 15-MAY-01 12.00.00.000000000 AM.
I am now going through the Data Import Wizard to create a new table and import the data. When I get to Step 3 of 4 it reads the data and assigns it a VARCHAR2. I want the column to be Date or Timestamp. In this case I choose timestamp and for format entered DD-MON-YY hh.mi.ss.fffffffff AM.
When I go to Step 4 of 4 to and click the Verify button I get:
"Verifying if the Date columns have date formats" Date columns DOT_LOGN_EFDT, have invalid or null date formats.
I am using Oracle SQL Developer 2.1.0.63 Build 63.73.
Any idea what I put in the format window to read the excel value of 15-MAY-01 12.00.00.000000000 AM correctly?

I am not able to reproduce your problem. When I export a date column, I do not get the time portion. This is the expected behavior. When re-importing the date, I therefore have no problem. I have tried manipulating the tools->preferences->database->nls->date format mask to include the time (and fractional seconds), but export still only exports the date portion. The fractional seconds is not valid for a date field, which explains the import error you are getting. The question remains as to why the exported data has the time. Can you describe your exact steps for doing the export?

    Hello,

I have tried as well with csv and the outcome was the same.

  • Error while importing text file to Power Pivot via Table Import Wizard

    Hello there,
I'm a rookie at handling Excel to be honest. I've been trying to import a .txt file to Excel (it contains around 14 million rows of information) but Excel won't let me since it can only handle around 1 million rows per sheet (too troublesome to do such thing
14 times in 14 different sheets). Then I googled that Power Pivot let me handle around 100 million rows in a Pivot.
I'm trying to import this .txt file to Power Pivot by doing the following:
Home tab > From Text > File Path (insert .txt location here) > Finish
After that it shows the Table Import Wizard retrieving the rows from the .txt file. Problem is... at the end of the import (once it hits row 14,000,000 or so) it shows an error. It states the following:
"Memory error: Allocation failure : Not enough storage is available to process this command. .
The current operation was cancelled because another operation in the transaction failed."
Please note that the size of the .txt file is 900 MB.
Another thing is that, when I select the .txt file from its location at the File Path section, the "preview" field only shows 50 rows, not all of them. Is that okay to happen?
Is it because the size of the .txt file is too big?
Please let me know if you need more info in regards to this.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi AdiUser,
Only showing 50 rows for the preview is normal behaviour. Based on what you've described, it sounds like Power Pivot is running out of memory when you are loading this .txt file. Are you running the 32 bit or 64 bit version of Excel. Also, if you are running
the 64 bit version how much RAM is available?
If you're running the 32 bit version then the available RAM for Power Pivot is less than 1 GB even if the system has more than this installed. You can address this by installing the 64 bit version. If you're running the 64 bit version then it may be
that you don't have enough RAM to accommodate this amount of data and you may consider upgrading the RAM. Alternatively, you could try and reduce the size of the table in memory by using the preview screen to remove any columns that are not of use. This
is especially important if there are any column with a high number of unique values that aren't actually needed in the model. In addition to removing columns altogether, you could try filtering the data so that only a subset of the rows are imported.
This can also be done from the preview screen.
    Regards,
    Michael Amadi

  • Windows 7/8.1 Excel import issues

I'm having similar issues as other posters and there doesn't seem to be an answer
    I'm using Office 2010 on XP, Win7 and Win8.1
the files to import are print spool files (fixed width) with lots of columns of numbers
The only time the file imports correctly is in XP
Problem #1 - on an Windows 7 box, I can import the file just fine but any formulas created don't work.  Any ideas why?
Problem #2 - on Windows 8.1, when I go through the text import wizard (Step 2) the column lines move as I scroll through to create the columns.  Why wouldn't they stay static where I created them?
    Thank you for any suggestions!
Could this be an Excel patch from MS for some reason???

    Hello ,
    Thank you for your question.

When I delete the 1. row (the colum_names) in eh XLS file this does not happen, but it still don't work.
Although I move all columns into the "Selectd Columns" box I get the Message that no data has been loaded because no columns has been selected for insert.
    Andre

When I reviewed the *.bad file in the directory, C:\Documents and Settings\MyUsername\Application Data\SQL Developer, I noticed there were errors found on the insert statements into to my SQL work table.
    For example,
REM SQL Error: ORA-12899: value too large for column "MySchema"."MyWorkTable"."cpt_code" (actual: 6, maximum: 5)
I reviewed data and made the necessary corrections. I retried importing my Excel data again using the SQL Developer 1.5 import wizard and it was successful.
Oh no...wait a minute... This is still an issue! Today, I tried to load a different CSV file into a different table, and the Import Wizard hangs up again. The CSV file contains a Header row, which I check the Header checkbox in the Data Import Wizard. On the Data Preview, I noticed the columns of my data were not delimited as I expected.
Here's an example of the layout of my data. Each column is basically a comma-separated field:
    COL_A COL_B COL_C
12345, "Description of data, and more", 123.45
Since in COL_B (description column) of my data includes a comma, it appears that the Data Import Wizard automatically delimits the data on each comma.
In Toad, I can specific that my data may be enclosed by a quote ("), followed by a comma (,), as the sample shows above. Is there a way to specify additional delimiters in the Data Import Wizard?

  • Excel import number formatting

    Hello,
I'm trying to use sqldev 1.5.4 to import data from an excel spreadsheet, and running into a number formatting issue that I hope someone can help me with. One of the columns in the spreadsheet contains zip codes that I'm trying to import to a varchar2 column in my table, but when sqldev imports them it's trying to format them with a comma in the thousands place. So the zip code "94606" becomes "94,606" in the database. Is there some way to disable this? There doesn't seem to be any option for it in the import wizard.
    Thanks!
    Sean

Thanks for the suggestion. The format of the zip code column is set to Special (Zip Code) and I have another column, Phone Number, which is doing the same thing despite being formatted as Special (Phone Number), so I don't think it's using that.

  • Excel-Import with SBO 2007

    Hello to all!
I have problems concerning the Excel-Import-function within SAP 2007.
I want to import some business partners (what should not be such a huge problem), but an internal error occures which states:
"internal error: Payment Methods for Payment Wizard (OPYM) (-2007) occured.
After I set up the Payment Wizard it is still not working - now the internal error stats: "(-2007)".
Experimentally, I tried to import the bp-data into an older version SAP BO 2005 - as personally expected no internal errors occured! even if i do not set up the Payment Wizard...
Here are some facts to our sbo 2007 version:
    2007A (8.00.178)
    SP: 00
    PL: 44
I tried to find a thread upon this topic, but I could not find any. Maybe some of you might be able to help me! I am looking forward to it,
    thanks a lot
    daniel

    Hi Daniel,
i had have similar problems by importing datas via excel function. My suggestion is to import step by step.
Select a few records and separate it into an extra excel sheet...(5-10 Records)
First try to import only CardCode, CardName, second try 2 records more. So you will find the records, that makes some trouble.
    Regards Steffen
(P.S. I think it could be the g/l account definition, but i am not sure.)

  • Text data import wizard

I need to add a text data import wizard much like Excel has to import data. I am wondering if there is a library that has these features somewhere. I do not want to write the whole thing from scratch since it will be time consuming and expensive for my client.
    Thanks

LOL!! Yes, he's crazy!... No, actually, we are developing a cross platform application to begin with. And also, this client has desktops with Windows 2000 and ALL machines are locked (you cannot install or change anything in the machine, much less change the registry), except for a drive that is in the network. So, what we do is package custom Java applications with the JRE and all the libraries we need into a CD or that drive in the network and they run what they need. We have accomplish that with .NET as well. Anyway, that's why :)
If anyone knows about the library, please, let me know ASAP.
    Thanks!

  • Trouble with Import Wizard - Date format

I am trying to import data from an excel file to a table using the Import Wizard. The verification of the import fails on the verification of the date column only, with the message that "Dater columns HOLIDAY_DATE, have invalid or null date formats"
There are no null / blanks in my xls file, and the date format in the xls file is dd/mm/yyyy. When this is imported through the import wizard, the date column shows the data, but the format shows the data in mm/dd/yyyy ??
Is there anything obvious I am doing wrong here?
    Thx

Well, not really a solution, but a work-around.
I created an extra field in the table, and loaded the date into that string field.
Then just updated the table using the follwoing code...simple, but much faster than trying to work out what the roblem was with the upload.
    UPDATE EU_HOLIDAYS
    SET HOLIDAY_DATE = TO_DATE(HOLIDAY,'DD/MM/YYYY');

  • How do I use "LabVIEW dll import wizard" to import NETAPI32.dll

I am trying to use the LabVIEW dll import wizard for the first time. I am not very familiar in C-coding so this might be a good help instead of configuring CallLibraryFunction nodes myself.
I want to import NETAPI.dll. I am interested in several functions in that dll, but my main priority is the funtion NetUserGetInfo(). On MSDN I have found that the header file for the mentioned function should be: lmaccess.h (include lm.h).
    My problem is this:
The shared library contains 317 function(s). But no function is found and recognized in the header file. The following function(s) cannot be wrapped. If you want to import these functions, please review the warning messages next to the functions below. You will need to fix the problems before you can continue with the wizard.
The function cannot be imported into LabVIEW. This might be caused by one of the following problems:
The function is not declared in the header file but is exported in the library.
Check the header file to make sure it contains declarations of the function.
Undefined symbols can prevent the wizard from recognizing functions and parameters. To correct this problem, check the header file to determine if you must add predefined symbols. From what I can tell that does not yet support VS 2013.  The source code is of course available, so you could attempt to fix it up yourself and tell us the result.

  • Report and Layout Import Wizard does not work

We used the Report and Layout Import Wizard extensively in 8.80 with no problems encountered.
We are now upgraded to 8.81 PL07.  This is the first attempt at using the wizard in 8.81.  The intro window of the wizard, with 'To Start, use the "Next" button' message is as far as I can get.  The "Next" and "Cancel" buttons are inoperative - when I click them, there is no response (but they are not greyed out).  The program has not crashed - I can move the window, and the "X" close button at top right works, but nothing else does.  I am logged in as a superuser, running B1 in an RDP session on the server, same as under 8.80.
    Any ideas out there?

    Hi,
    This is a 8.81 PL07 bug!
I had the same problem this week, and i found the note [1615932 - Buttons "Cancel" and "Next" are inactive in Report and layout import wizard window], that says that it is corrected on PL08!
