Exception in Cartesian Chat with Flex 4

Hi ,
When I was trying to port my old flex3 chart components in flex 4 project, I keep hitting the exception in the function updateMultipleAxesStyles in CartesianChart.as because horizontalAxisStyleNames are not defined. Is there a way to by pass this or is this a bug ?

I went to Digicert's web page (I searched and got to and went here)

I then put in chat.facebook.com and it came back they don't have a Certificate.
At this point I would delete the Certificate and then Delete the com.apple.ichat.Jabber.plist and then restart iChat.
Google is Jabber server, hence removing the Jabber .plist
The reason for removing the .plist is something in iChat is probably checking/Calling the Certificate and the .plist is the most likely place.

Is there anything with Facebook that requires a SSL Login ? Such as changing your account or Privacy settings ?

How to deal with Flex Exceptions ??

Hi ,
I know how to handle an Exception when dealing with Flex with server side that is , when an Exception comes from the server side (java) i can easily handle that on the fault event with the help of ErrorMessage .
But can anybody please let me know how to handle an Exception when it comes on to the ActionScript and show it to the User .
For instance , i have seen a half example like this :

Now please let me know how can i show this to the End User ??
And i can only see Errors in ActionScript , is there anything like Exceptions on to Flex??

Why can I video chat with everyone on my list- Except for one person?

Recently, my friend and I have been having problems video chatting with each other. A couple of months ago, we were able to screen share, voice chat, and video chat just fine. I can, and she can too, do all those things with all of our other iChat contacts. Except when we try to do anything with each other, it says "A problem has occurred with iChat". We've tried it multiple times on different computers, internet connections, etc., but it never seems to work. Is there a way that my friend and I can start to video chat and screen share again? This problem has just come out of the blue, and it is really bugging us.

Have either of you changed a Router at all ?
I have some info dating back to iChat 3 listed here
As time and iChat has progressed so has our understanding of NAT (Network Address Translation)
In some cases the way the Device that does the routing at each end does NAT means you cannot get a video connection.
If it was working and now doesn't it suggests something changed.
As changing setting would more likely effect every Buddy at one end it looks more like a hardware issue (at least in terms of the devices functionality)
Make, model and version numbers of any routers may help identify something specific.

Video Chat with Windows Vista User

I am trying to chat with my friend who is using a PC with Windows Vista. I am using iChat and she is using AIM. But the video is not working. The error keeps saying that either she has declined my invitation but in fact she accepted it. What do each of us need to do to get this to work?

AIM is currently posting this Info about AIM 6.5 which is the only version currently available for Vista.
Having said that about 30% of those who post about AIM here say it works but it does need allowing through the Firewall as an Exception as Steve has linked you to.

AIR application with Flex 4.5 will not render content. What gives?

OK,
So I've upgraded to Flash Builder 4.5 Premium and I am unable to develop desktop AIR applications with the 4.5 Flex SDK. I start by simply creating a brand new AIR application using the default SDK (Flex 4.5). I set the title property on WindowedApplication and include a simple Label component. The project compiles fine but when I run the application all I see is the adl window in the dock but that's it. If I modify the Main-app.xml file to set the visible attribute to true, I will get a small window but there is no content although the output window shows the application swf being loaded. Checking the release version of the Main-app.xml file shows the correct path location to the swf.
Here is what I've tried so far:
Install/reinstall Flash Builder, 4+ times
Downloaded the trial installation twice
Downloaded the SDK's for 3.6, 4.1 and 4.5.0. I then copied each SDK folder and merged the AIR 2.6 SDK with each copy. So now I have 6 SDK versions; one pristine and the other with the AIR 2.6 SDK merged. I then added each SDK individually and created an AIR desktop application for each. Each and every one works fine with the exception of the two 4.5 SDK's. They will not render content.
I created a simple creation complete handler for the application that declares a simple variable and assigns a value to it. I then put a break point on the assignment and it never gets caught. More evidence that the swf isn't getting loaded.
The computer I'm running on is a Mac Book Pro with Snow Leopard 10.6.7. If I create a web project in each of the 6 SDK's, those will work just fine. What the heck is it with Flex 4.5 and the AIR 2.6 SDK on this machine? I have the AIR 2.6 runtime installed as well as a number of AIR applications that work just fine. I also tried my 4.5 test on my windows machine and that worked like a champ.
I am completely out of ideas. Finding information has been difficult because everyone is all about mobile so searching for desktop issues is a losing battle. I realize this is a long email but I'm desperate for help. There must be someone out there that knows more about the low level interaction between Flex 4.5/AIR 2.6 and the OS.

Well, I finally found the issue, a corrupted mm.cfg file in /Library/Application Support/Macromedia. I deleted the file and then adl ran just fine.

Keep getting error message when trying to initiate chat with another mac

My brother and I are trying to have a video chat between our 2 macs. His is a brand new imac, purchased this week. Mine is a 2006 macbook pro. I have an AIM account and he has both an AIM account and a .mac account. Everytime we try to talk we get a communication error. I will paste some of the details below. I have video chatted with another friend who has an imac with no problems at all (although this was several months ago).

Error 8 has always been there since iChat 2.x (Although it is not until the error logs pop was introduced to 10.4.7 that it actually had a name for us users).
As to whose fault it is, is many and varied.
As the Article you link to says iChat uses the SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) as Apple has said iChat is a VoIP app and all VoIP use SIP.
Not all modem and router manufacturers handle SIP or VoIP properly all the time. Some go as far as making it always use one port instead of the SIP Standards 4 ports (It will use of the 4)
As AIM (application or the servers) do not use SIP it can not be AIM's fault.
Not all modem and Router manufacturers do NAT the same way further adding to the problem.
Lastly if it was working and now does not the also look carefully at what your ISP is doing.
Many are now trying to set up VoIP services. For this they try charging for thus service. One way is to block the SIP ports until the end user pays. In effect changing your Internet service in some cases without telling you.
Remember that if set Port Forwarding and kept your Modem or router doing DHCP then the IP your computer gets from that DHCP server could also have changed.
If a Home network (LAN) is set out in a linear fashion even if NAT is used then iChat will work.
This means if your Modem and router can not do UPnP and have to use a NAT based method like Port Forwarding then you have to set up a Static route from modem to Router and possibly router to computer and not have overlapping subnets caused by two DHCP servers.

I have shown it this way to demonstrate more visually the overlapping.
Yes, it is fair to say that iChat has trouble with NAT, but it is mostly about how the LAN is set up, which can include using Wireless and Ethernet at the same time. IT is also true that many on-line games will have the same trouble.
Yes, Apple also run the SIP server that iChat connects to which handles ALL A/V chats and it could lose contact with the AIM servers or the AIM servers with it and lose the ability to contact the AIM screen names.
So in summary.
Could be your LAN and any setting (Except UPnP) used with a DHCP server.
Could be your ISP changing your Internet Service for their VoIP service.
Partly it is Apple for choosing the International SIP Standard
Partly it is due to the myriad ways modem and router manufacturers construct their firmware.
More specifically;
Without you "changing Anything" it can be your OWN DHCP server.
IT could be your ISP.
We have yet to touched on features on modems and routers that see the amount of Data iChat can send as an Attack on your connection and end the chat.

One-way video chat with iSight on Mac to PC via AIM

I recently bought an iSight camera for my powerbook G4. I am having trouble getting a video chat connected to my friend who is using AIM 5.5 on his PC. I am using AIM 4.7 for macintosh. Are there any tips on getting a one way video chat started?? he doesn not have a webcam

Your PC pal should upgrade to the current AIM 5.9. If fixes some of 5.5's problems.

The requirements for one-way video are the same as for two-way video except for one camera.
One-way video between an iSight-equipped Mac and a correctly configured PC is possible for most users. However, some users report that they can just NEVER get it to work. We do not know why that is. Adding any compatible USB webcam to the PC system (and "tuning" correctly after the addition) should let you make video connections if you are one who cannot make it work without a camera.

Video chat with AIM on a pc

I am having trouble video chatting with my friend who has a pc. When we connect with video chat, both of us can only see me. I have an imac- Any ideas? Sound works fine

3 Is AIM6.exe (presuming he has 6.1) allowed as an exception in the firewall
This bit does not apply just to AIM 6.1 but 5.9 as well (In fact any Non Microsoft app on a PC.)

Hey Guys, problem with Flex Time.

i have a problem with Flex Time. I was searching for a way to copy my 1-Tackt Timplin Beat to make 12 out of it, but there were always "wholes" between the new inserted regions. So i found Flex Time, but then when i choosed a Region, pressed the Flex Time button, nothing happend, except that the Header became a little bit bigger, as if there would been added a few more options, but there came only more free space .
Would be great if somebody could help me!:)

I would suggest Option dragging the bottom right edge of the Region so it fits precicely to the grid, then copy. This is a quick way to time stretch...

Possible to obtain phone IMEI number with flex mobile project?

Just like the title says, is it possible to obtain phone IMEI number with flex mobile project? If not, does anyone know of another method to get a unique number to identify the phone being used (on android and iphone)? I'm asking because I'm building a chat application, and I need a way to potentially ban users based on something other than an IP address.
edit: now that I think about it, an IMEI number might not be the best way, since wifi tablets may not hav an IMEI number, anyone have any other idea how I could get a number to identify a device that would already be present, because i'm afraid if its something generated by me, a simple uninstall and re-install could circumvent a ban.

I have verified that it does work and provides the IMEI. For cases where there is no IMEI ( bc the device is not a mobile phone, or it uses IMSI instead ), you can just bypass the device id check with your database, and enable full functionality.
Although this is not full-proof, it will nevertheless screen a lot of devices. With this, you can keep track of the number of app installs / resets, and add a 'banned' flag if you want to in your DB -- if you see unusal activity ( like: unsually high number of re-installs ).

I have verified that the iOS part works, but haven't tried the Android side, yet. Note: for iOS, it will also give you a UUID ( even though the object tag claims it is the UDID -- it's not ), which is worthless as a persistent means of identifying the device. since it gets reset on each app re-install. So, for iOS, you have to use the MAC address, unless you are willing to store/restore the UUID into EncryptedLocalStore, as suggested by a user in:

Exception in video chat..

hello,
i have made a video chat application, which can be run simply entering the nick name and the server address. which is working perfectly. now i made a access data base and attached to it. username and password are saved in database. when i log in, it let me enter and i can chat with multiple PC but when i click on record video option then it give me this exception

The problem is that one of Your objects has null value (is a null reference). Debug Your code, find this null value and fix it.

IChat Video chat with AIM Buddy - Possible fix?

This is my first post to the Apple Discussions group. I received my MacBook Pro, my first ever Apple computer, just two days ago, and came upon this group after discovering the problems establishing a video chat with someone using AIM. With the help of "Rjin WI" I was able to verify that I could indeed have video chat Mac-to-Mac. This morning I decided to try something I should have tried on day one-I fired up AIM 5.9 on my PC, and tried to chat with myself.
I disabled all firewalls involved: the Mac firewall, the Windows SP2 firewall, and the SPI firewall on my Linksys router. I chatted with myself between two screen name for a few moments before initialising the video chat from the Mac, but was quite shocked to see on the PC "Unable to complete the connection with your buddy. This may be due to the configuration of the firewall." On the Mac was "Failed to start Video Chat because: (I) did not respond."
I tried a few more times just to be sure, but the error message was persistent. I kept looking for some button to press or question to answer in the invitation, but there was nothing to be found. Except for the "video" button in the AIM chat I had previously overlooked. I initialised the video chat from AIM, and what do you know, I received the invitation on the Mac, accepted, and was connected just fine.
I reenabled all of the firewalls again. And once again, I was able to have a video chat with myself when I sent the invitation from the PC. Trying from the Mac instantly gave me the error on the PC, and after timing out, the same error on the Mac.
Does anyone else have anything they can add to the mystery of iChat?

great post. i'll try and make my situation short and sweet, as I don't have the energy to try and describe every little "error" that my computer runs into. To make it short; just got the brand new macbook (thinking 'now i can actually video chat, unlike the isight which never worked and solutions/helpful advice via appletechs seemed to be non-existent). Low and behold the camera works perfectly...2x. At the time I was using airport for wireless connection, but I have since been using the computer with a linksys. Because the computer worked with the airport and not with the linksys, I thought this was were the problem existed...then the camera worked with a different user (with the linksys) so I scratched that idea. Anyways I have been trying to video chat with another macbook and there is no success whatsoever. We both get the msg " did not respond) when the user accepts, the camera icon goes "shaded" but then goes back to its normal state. Both firewalls were disabled, and both of us are using linksys. I also run vonage in my place if that could somehow play into this scenario. I apologize for such a poor post, but my energy regarding this matter is limited since I am so tired of trying get this video chat working. (first a worthless isight, then a macbook which can't even function with another macbook. in addition, to put it lightly, i am very dissatisfied with applecare regarding this issue.)

Can't chat with friend who has AIM 5.9

I'm having serious trouble video chatting with my friend who lives very far away from me. She has a PC and has AIM 5.9. I have an iMac and have iChat. I have no clue how to work a PC, so I can't help her at all! Everytime she sends me a video chat invite, it says I'm not responding!!!I've looked this up on the web before, and I think that I'm supposed to open some ports? I'm not quite sure what to do, so can someone who knows what to do help me?! Please? I'm not making a .mac account (i use my aim screename in iChat) and she's not changing her aim/aol account. She has the latest version of Aim, and I have the latest version of iChat. Is there a way to get this to work, or is it truly impossible!!! Thanks to anyone who can help!!!

If she has AIM 5.9 (which is not actually the latest), she should start at message 570 in this blog-like set of instructions at Panflute.
After that she may need to do these instructions for the XP firewall to allow the application as an Exception.
