Exchange 2007 Split-Delivery

Hi,
One of the child domains in our Forest wants to move to Google Apps (GA) for email and I have some question about split-delivery from Exchange 2007.
The child domain's smtp domain is bluecrayon.com. I think the steps are:
Change bluecrayon.com from Authoritative to Internal domain
Create a send connector for bluecrayon.com address space to send to the GA smarthost.
If both the bluecrayon and default (*.*) send connector both have priorities of 1 Exchange should favor the bluecrayon connector for bluecrayon.com mail, correct?
For MX:
GA is able to forward unresolved recipients to our Edge servers.
Shouldn't I then point the external bluecrayon.com MX to GA, which would then forward to our Edge servers?
Is any configuration necessary on the Edge to receive bluecrayon.com mail from GA or is this covered because bluecrayon.com is listed as an internal relay domain?
Lastly, how is a mail loop prevented if a bluecrayon.com address isn't found on Exchange or GA?
Thank you,
Robert

The more specific send connector, i.e., the one with the bluecrayon.com address space, will take precedence regardless of cost.
It makes sense to change the MX record because it will get your server out of the loop, since it really doesn't add any value.  Don't forget to add the appropriate GA strings to the bluecrayon.com SPF record.
No change to the Edge is required for exactly the reason you cite, but changing the MX record makes this moot.
You would need to change each mailbox to either a mail user (if the user still needs domain authentication) or a mail contact, each with a @bluecrayon.com target address if you still want them in your GAL.

  • Exchange 2010 Google Apps Split Delivery

The situation I'm facing is a little confusing.
Our organization has Exchange 2010 email accounts in place for all staff with an address scheme of
    [email protected]
We recently signed up for Google Apps and are using the same domain name for those accounts as well.
These accounts are for our students with the address scheme of
    [email protected].
With using the same domain name we are looking to a split delivery solution I’m assuming to make this work.
In theory what we are looking for would be that if an email is sent to a recipient at mydomain.com it would come through our Exchange server.
It would look for the intended email account.  If it were for a staff member an account would be present and the mail would stop there.
However if it were for a student it would not find the account and then pass through to Google’s servers by way of a send receiver.
I have set up the send receivers according to the documentation from the following website:
    http://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/show/38537-ms-exchange-and-google-apps-split-delivery-for-single-domain-name-k-12-school-sample-shown
    These steps include-
Setting the accepted domain from “Authoritative” to “Internal Relay”
Setting up a send connector to point to Google’s servers with a cost of 1 to make it priority.
Since we currently have a send connector setup to route email out through our spam filter, that would go to a cost of 2.
The issue seems to be that when the send connector that is pushing the mail to Google’s servers is set to a cost of 1, giving it priority, it then creates a send loop for the staff members sending
    email from Exchange.
The Google student accounts do not receive any mail from outside without a send connector in place to tell the emails to go to the Google servers to look for those accounts since our MX records
point to our spam filter.  I know I have read multiple place that it would be easier to have the MX records point to Google for the domain and then set up routing on that end to push email to unknown accounts to our Exchange server, however
we would like to route it the opposite of that.
Please let me know if I have overlooked anything, however at this point I’m stumped.
    Thank you for your time.

What are the namespaces on the two connectors ?
    Cheers,
    Rhoderick

  • Split domain with Exchange 2007

    Hi,
I have been asked by my bosses to look at moving some of our users onto Exchange online and I could do with some help before I head down that way.
At present I have an Exchange 2007 Server sat in my office which I am planning to replace with a new Exchange Server in the next few months, but in the mean time we are starting to have a more mobile set of workers who need to access their email from multiple
    external locations.
We are also at the point where we need to purchase 12 extra exchange and office licenses.
So the idea is, we buy Office 365 including Office for the extra 12 users and create a split domain between our Exchange Server and the Office 365 hosted exchange server.
Can anyone give me any pointers on how to do this? We are not planning to go down a totally hosted solution in the next few years.
    Thanks,
    Anthony

Depends on what exactly you mean by split domain. If you are only concerned about mail flow, you can follow this setup:
    http://community.office365.com/en-us/w/exchange/786.simple-domain-sharing-for-smtp-email-addresses.aspx
If you want to have free/busy and the other features across the two organizations, you will have to do a Hybrid deployment:

  • Migrating from Exchange 2007 to exchange 2013 ( special case )

    Hello ,
what is the BEST scenario ( fastest , most efficient , most secure in terms of data loss )  , to migrate from exchange 2007 ( one server , all exchange roles installed on this server , 1200 mailbox ) , to exchange 2013 ?
knowing my environment needs to be connected to their mailboxes , 24/7 !
    it's very frustrating .
and i have no clue even if this is the right place to post about this , if not please refer me as to where to post .
Also , All my domain controllers are 2008 .

It's fine to post your question here, and you are fine with Server 2008 Domain Controllers - that is a supported scenario.
If you haven't performed such an upgrade and you need to have 24/7 mailbox availability, I would seriously recommend you to duplicate the production environment on a test network and run through the upgrade at least once.
Most people neglect the Outlook clients requirements - they need to be updated and include several specific updates, which allow the automatic reconfiguration of internal clients. If you are preparing for this upgrade, you should be aware that all internal
Outlook clients switch to Outlook Anywhere. Clients that miss these updates will get connectivity problems.
Another common problem is the configuration of the Exchange URL - I mean the Exchange 2013 URL and the modified Exchange 2007 URL that will allow the co-existence. In your case, you definitely need to plan for co-existence - that includes requesting and
installing a new Exchange UCC (Multiple Domain Certificate) on both Exchange servers, configuring Split DNS (or preferably PinPoint DNS zones), and correct timing when replacing the existing Certificate on the Exchange 2007 server. Failure to configure the
correct URL (and it's quite easy to miss one, so triple check them) will get you in trouble.
Once you get through the switchover (switching the mail flow and Client Access through the Exchange 2013 server), move just a couple of test mailboxes and check the result.
Finally, if you are moving the Public Folders, make sure that the lock is really applied before you complete the process. Most people proceed right away and that get's the process stuck. If you can afford it (the mailboxes are already on the Exchange 2013
server at that point), just restart the Exchange 2007 server (after locking the Public Folders) and then complete the Public Folder migration.
    Good Luck with the project!

  • Routing email from exchange 2007 to 2010 .

    Although this is an
hypothetical question but still would be a great help if anyone could answer this :  " How email routing takes place from exchange 2007 user
to exchange 2010 user. I have exchange 2007 and 2010 ,provided i am using single forest with same domain name in both 2007 & 2010 environment "
    Aditya Mediratta

    Hi,
Firstly,I'd like to explain, message routing from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010 is message delivery between responsed Hub Transport servers:
When a Hub Transport server queries Active Directory to determine the Mailbox server hosting the destination mailbox, it also retrieves the version of the Mailbox server. If the Mailbox server is an Exchange 2007 server that's in the same site as the Hub Transport
server, the Hub Transport server will relay the message to an Exchange 2007 Hub Transport server in the same Active Directory site.
For more information about the emails routing process, you can refer to the following articles:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb232193(v=exchg.141).aspx#Old
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996349(v=exchg.141).aspx
If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.

Appreciate if someone can help us move forward in this scenario.
    We have
    1. disabled anti virus and tried.
    2. removed watermarks and action entries in the registry
    3. tried almost everything mentioned on google but i am not able to move forward.
Please help. we need this as part of our migration to Exchange 2013 for co-existence.
    Thank you.

  • Exchange 2007 database won't mount due to MapiExceptionCallFailed errors

A server is running Exchange Server 2007 SP2 on Windows Server 2008 64-bit. After a couple years of running smoothly, the Windows Application event log started filling up with several instances every minute of the following error:
    MSExchangeIS (2644) First Storage Group: A bad page link (error -327) has been detected in a B-Tree (ObjectId: 5, PgnoRoot: 10) of database H:\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Mailbox\First Storage Group\Mailbox Database.edb (165296 => 3185, 817790).
Messages sent to a specific mailbox on the server started getting returned as undeliverable with the message:
#550 5.2.0 STOREDRV.Deliver: The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service reported an error. The following information should help identify the cause of this error: "MapiExceptionCallFailed..."
I assumed that the event log messages and the delivery errors were related so I ran "eseutil /d" on the database but it exited with the message, "Operation terminated with error -1605 (JET_errKeyDuplicate, Illegal duplicate key) after 76.578 seconds. Running
eseutil /mh reports the database state as clean shutdown.
The Exchange database had been backed up nightly using Windows Server 2008 Backup. I restored the latest backup of the .edb file. Unfortunately, the corruption behind the bad page link error seemingly had propagated through the backups because the restored
.edb file had the same issues.
I then attempted to create a new clean database with the goal of then transferring mailbox data from the old to the new as described in the article "Simplifying the Dial Tone Database Recovery Process in Exchange 2007" (http://blogs.technet.com/b/dhardin/archive/2009/08/25/simplifying-the-dial-tone-database-recovery-process-in-exchange-2007.aspx).
I successfully created the new storage group and database with empty instances of all mailboxes but attempts to mount the old database yield this message:
Error: Exchange is unable to mount the database that you specified. Specified database: FASTMAIL\NewStorageGroup\Mailbox Database; Error code: MapiExceptionCallFailed: Unable to mount database. (hr=0x80004005, ec=-344)
I then tried to return to the initial state of having a corrupted database but one that would at least function temporarily for all but the one broken mailbox. The idea would be to instruct individual users to run the Outlook archive command to back their
messages up locally into .pst files. Unfortunately, all attempts to mount the original .edb file yield the same MapiExceptionCallFailed error. I also tried to mount the database after deleting the transaction log files.
I searched the web for information on this error. There are some pages describing similar errors such as "hr=0x80004005, ec=2417" but I could not find any for "ec=-344". Some articles recommend running IsInteg.exe but this utility only works for databases
that are already mounted and I am unable to mount the database.
The Exchange server is running again using the empty database so that the users can at least send and receive mail. I get the sinking feeling that all hope is lost and the historical mail data that was stored on the server is gone for good. Before I face
the pitchforks of the angry mob, I figured that I would at least post an inquiry on an Exchange-related forum.
Are there any other steps I should take to try to recover the old data?

have you checked the health of the database using eseutil /mh "edbfilename.edb" ?
is the state: Clean Shutdown ?
If it is in clean shutdown state, then move the old logs, chk, .jrs files and select the option "This database can be overwritten by a restore" and mount the database.
In case if your database is not in clean shutdown state then you would need to work towards getting the database to clean shutdown using any of the following strategies based on the criteria that the database is affected with !
    1. soft recovery
    2. Hard Recovery
    3. Hard repair

  • Exchange 2007 - Exchange 2013 Mailbox Migration Issues

Exchange 2013 -  Mail Flow is working.   OWA Access is great.   We have issues connecting Outlook 2010 Clients.  If I create a new user and mailbox Outlook 2010 works fine.   However, if we migrate a user's mailbox to the new Exchange
2013 server.  Outlook Web (OWA) works and mail flow but "OUTLOOK 2010 can not connect to the new server"  There is something different about a newly created account and a migrated account.  Any help would be great.   I did check
inheritance in AD and it was on for these accounts.  This occurs with any account migrated to the new server.

    1. Could you double check your Exchange 2007 Internal Autodiscover URI - it should be pointing to Exchange 2013. All clients should be receiving their autodiscover config from the Exchange 2013 server. Based on the client's mailbox location, Exchange 2013
generates and provides the correct information.
    2. If the autodiscover URI is "autodiscover.yourdomain.com" and you've configured Split-Brain DNS or Pin-Point DNS zones on the local network, make sure the name is resolved to Exchange 2013 internal IP address.

    The autodiscover on exchange 2007:
    [PS] C:\Windows\system32>Get-ClientAccessServer | ft Identity,*uri* -AutoSize
Creating a new session for implicit remoting of "Get-ClientAccessServer" command...
    Identity      AutoDiscoverServiceInternalUri
    BDPOC-SERVER1 https://mail.biendongpoc.vn/Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml
I have created new certificate for Two exchange 2013
    The certificate enroll with

    Thanks

    Hi
    huynhtrongnhatminh,
I suggest you please go through this article.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2014/03/12/client-connectivity-in-an-exchange-2013-coexistence-environment.aspx
Please check this for step by step guide.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/meamcs/archive/2013/07/25/part-1-step-by-step-exchange-2007-to-2013-migration.aspx
Please point your autodiscover and commonname to Exchange2013 CAS
Please configure your URLs. There is no CAS array in Exchange2013 but the concept of single name space remains.
You need to have an A record (e.g. legacy.domain.com) in yout external DNS and add that name (legacy.domain.com) in your certificate for exchange 2007 users to have access externally.
Configure your commonname URLs in Exchange2013. Point commonname and autodiscover to exchange2013 in both external and internal DNS servers
    Configure URLshttp://www.mustbegeek.com/configure-external-and-internal-url-in-exchange-2013/
    No CASARRAY in 2013http://exchangeserverpro.com/exchange-2013-client-access-server-high-availability/
Please configure splitdns or pinpoint DNS in your internal DNS server if not configured

  • Maximum Database size in exchange 2007

    Hi Team,<o:p></o:p>
What is the maximum database size we can have in Exchange server 2007 SP3 RU8 standalone server.<o:p></o:p>
In our environment we have 1800 users hosted on the
exchange 2007 server with DB size(EDB file) of 1.61TB. What is the maximum size it can grow upto. Any response appreciated.
    Thanks<o:p></o:p>
    Srini<o:p></o:p>

Amit just beat me to posting Harold Wong's article! :-) Since you're currently on 1.61TB the artificial limit has already been adjust via the registry setting mentioned (the article mentioned 50GB though I've seen others mention 250GB). So the maximum limit
is 16TB, but whoever adjusted things to allow your current size may have set the artificial limit as something smaller, so you'd want to check the registry to see what it has been set to in your case.
I'd also echo the comments about database size. Depending on how you handle backups then they may also play a part. Since most backups work on the basis of backing up / restoring the entire database (obviously backing up changes rather than the whole thing
each time), then the event of you needing to restore it's much easier if you have smaller databases to deal with. Splitting your mailboxes across multiple stores will help minimise the time required before you can get some users online again in the case of
a total failure. Also, if you split your mailboxes across 5 databases and then have a problem (for instance corruption) on one of them, then only around 1/5 of your users are effected rather than all of them.

  • Exchange 2007 Multiple Send Connector Cost Best Practice

    Hi,<o:p></o:p>
I am running exchange 2007 SP2 and have 2x exchange connectors set up with an equal default cost of 1.<o:p></o:p>
Connector 1 is set to * address space and should forward all emails to two email security/management servers<o:p></o:p>
Connector 2 is set to a internal sub domain server whose purpose is to file the emails on a CMS.  Emails are marked for "filing" when
the Outlook plugin adds the connector 2's subdomain address into the bcc field.<o:p></o:p>
What I want to clarify is if I was to change the cost of Connector 1 to 0 would all mail then only be routed via this connector?<o:p></o:p>
I presume it would ignore the 2nd connector because the 1st connector's address space is *  and thus no emails would route through connector
2 and therefore be filed to CMS ?<o:p></o:p>
What would the best practice be for the costs of each connector ??<o:p></o:p>
    Thanks<o:p></o:p>
    Mat<o:p></o:p>

I don't believe that 0 is a valid cost for a connector (I get an error if I try to see a connector with that).  If you have two connectors, Exchange will send to the one that matches the address space most correctly.  If you had no second connector,
connector 1 would attempt delivery to your CMS.  Since you have that second connector, those messages will be delivered by it.
Connector costs are normally used when you have multiple connectors with the SAME address space, and allows Exchange to fail from one to another when the preferred is not operational for some reason.  For example, if you have an ISDN line as your backup
Internet connection, you want to give connectors that use it a higher cost than your MPLS connections use.
I'll add that in most environments I've worked for the past several years, this redirection is handled at the network layer rather than the application layer.

  • Veiwing mailbox sizes in exchange 2007

Is it me or is Exchange 2007 missing mailbox size? i cant anywhere to veiw the size of a users mailbox.

Never use a Format- cmdlet before sending data to Export-Csv
    Use Select-Object instead.
    PowerShell V1:
Get-MailboxStatistics -Database "Mailbox Database" |Select-Object DisplayName, LastLoggedOnUserAccount, ItemCount, @{expression={$_.totalitemsize.value.ToMB()};label=”Size(MB)”}, LastLogonTime, LastLogoffTime | Export-Csv MailboxSize.csv -NoTypeInformation
    PowerShell V2:
    $MailboxStatistics = @{
    Database = "Mailbox Database"
    $Select = @{
    Property = "DisplayName","LastLoggedOnUserAccount","ItemCount",
    @{expression={$_.totalitemsize.value.ToMB()};label=”Size(MB)”},
    "LastLogonTime","LastLogoffTime"
    $Csv = @{
    Path = "MailboxSize.csv"
    NoTypeInformation = $true
    Get-MailboxStatistics @MailboxStatistics |Select-Object @Select |Export-Csv @Csv

  • Exchange 2007 smarthostdelivery missing

    Hi,
Recently, I encountered this problem twice in a span of 3 weeks. We have configured our Exchange 2007 ( sp2 ) CAS/Hub to route outgoing mails to an antispam appliance. We have this done 5 years ago with no problem. Until recently, our users complained they
cannot send mails to external parties. Upon checking the Queue viewer, we found the smarthostdelivery missing and outgoing mails were stucked in the queue ( internal mails are ok). We were puzzled how this could have happened.  We have to restart the
server in order to get the mails to send out. Is the problem lies with the antispam or the Send connector has issues.
    We appreciate any advice.
    Thanks

You say there's no "smarthost" delivery queue, but you say the messages are "stucked in the queue". What queue (or queues) are they? Are there individual queues for each target domain (e.g. gmail.com, yahoo.com, ibm.com, Microsoft.com,
etc.)? Are the message in an "unreachable destination" queue?
If stopping and restarting the transport service doesn't work you may have a connectivity problem. Can you "telnet <smart-host-ip-address> 25" from the machine that's named as the source server in the send connector? Does disabling and enabling
the NIC restart the message delivery?
I think one other thing might be worth trying, and that's to have the messages resubmitted. That should happen if you change the list of smart hosts for the send connector. Try adding some address that doesn't exist in your LAN (e.g. 10.254.254.254) to the
list (it shouldn't be necessary to restart the transport after that, but it wouldn't hurt). If that gets things moving, go ahead and remove the unusable address.
IIRC, disabling and reenabling the send connector would also resubmit the messages.
If your send connector uses an IP address there's no DNS lookup done by the send connector.
There's no DNS lookup done for messages before they're dispatched to the send connector. The decision to route messages "to the outside" is based solely on whether or not the target address can be found in your directory, and whether or not
that address is assigned to a "local delivery" object (e.g. a mailbox, public folder, or DL). If the message can't be delivered locally it's sent to a send connector (of which you may have several). If the send connector has been set up to use
a smart host the messages are sent to the smart host (whose job is to figure out how to get the messages to the destination).
