How to open .rar files and .exe files on mac
HI
I'm new user on mac and would like to know how to open .rar files and .exe files on MAC OS X
ThanksHow is this a Compressor question?
.exe is a Windows only Executable, and can't be opened on a Mac, unless you have Windows installed.
Michael Trauffer -
I have written a program that executes an .exe file using the
Runtime.exec() command and all works fine standalone with the .exe
file located in the root of my classpath.
My problem comes when I want to deploy it using WebStart, I dont know where to place the .exe where it can be found.
Ideally I dont want to install it on the client and was wondering
if it is possible to find its location programatically say in the
cache.
TIAThis is quite simple actually once you know the trick. Should probably be put into a faq....
Create a native method e.g. getNativePath and implement it to return the path of where it is located on disk. Bundle your executable and the native dll into a jar that is added in the nativelib section of the jnlp file
On windows the code may look something like the following.
* Class: Native
* Method: getNativePath
* Signature: ()Ljava/lang/String;
JNIEXPORT jstring JNICALL Java_Native_getNativePath(JNIEnv* env, jobject obj)
char buf[_MAX_PATH];
#ifdef _DEBUG
HMODULE hmodule=GetModuleHandle("theNameOfTheDebugDll");
#else
HMODULE hmodule=GetModuleHandle("theNameOfTheReleaseDll");
#endif
GetModuleFileName(hmodule, buf, _MAX_PATH);
return (*env)->NewStringUTF(env, buf);
}Now call the executable with Runtime.exec() by prepending the path returned by the native call to getNativePath.

Intel Macs and .exe files
I have a modem I got from Verizon for use with Verizon DSL. A check at the site of the modem's manufacturer reveals that this modem was made exclusively for Verizon and there are no links to support, etc., for the modem at the manufacturer's website (Westell Versalink 327).
On the DSLReports site, I learned that newer software for my modem is available and that I ought to install it. Of course, it is available only as a .exe file, which I have downloaded to my Mac.
My wife has an Intel Mac. We have never used it in anything but its Mac mode and I am clueless as to whether it is possible, without buying and installing Windows Whatever on that computer, to boot it up in the "other" system, attach the router modem, and run that .exe file and update the software on the modem?
Is there any easy way to go about this or should I just forget about updating the modem software???
Thanks,
BobIf the exe file is only a windows self-extracting zip archive (which is not uncommon), then the free Unarchiver (http://wakaba.c3.cx/s/apps/unarchiver.html) will open it on your Mac.
Otherwise, there are other solutions without the purchase of a Windows license, you can run many windows programs with Crossover (http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxmac/) which does not require you to install windows, but still costs $59.99.
I guess the easiest way is just ask a friend who has Windows. -

How to download and exe file?
Hi - is there a way for a mac user to download an exe file - I'm needing to download some software from my internet company in Africa - it tracks my usage, important because here we pay per download - thus the software is a program that tracks usage so we don't go over our monthly amount . . . as most things here, there is almost nothing set up for macs . . . hence my query: is there a way to convert an exe file so that I can use it? THANKS, Autumn
Hi Masego
Downloading is easy - but if it's an exe file then you might not be able to make much use of it on OS X, as it won't run.
To run Windows exe files on a Mac you need one of the following technologies:
1. A version of Windows installed on a separate partition of your hard disk, using Boot Camp.
2. A version of Windows installed using a virtualisation technology, such as Virtual Box.
3. I'm told that "Mono" will allow you to run certain exe files under OS X but I've never tried it myself. Mono is free and if you do a search for it then you might find someone who can give you more support.

How do I change and .exe file so it will work on my mac?
I am trying to download an Active X plug-in and install it on my Mac so I can log onto a website that supports this Active X plug-in only. How do I change an .exe file so it will work to where I can install it on my Mac?
You can't install Windows software natively on your Mac but you can run Microsoft Virtual PC <http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/virtualpc/virtualpc.aspx?pid=virtualpc> if your Mini is a PowerPC Mac or you can use something like Parallels <http://www.parallels.com> or Apple's Boot Camp <http://www.apple.com/bootcamp> if your Mini is an Intel Mac.
Virtual PC comes with Windows but Parallels and Boot Camp will require you to install your own licensed version of Windows purchased separately.
Then you'll be able to run Windows on your Mac, which means you can use ActiveX in your IE browser.
Hope this helps! bill

Updating Flash - 'error has been encountered' and exe file vanishes
On an Aspire one netbook that I've not used for some time, so loads was out of date. I've just updated firefox, and that was fine.
But I keep getting warning messages about adobe flash being out of date and vulnerable, so have tried to update that too. I've tried about half a dozen times, and every time manage to download the update exe file, but every time it fails to fully install and gives this message: "Error has been encountered. Close this window and try downloading again."
I've gone back to the download page, and checked various possible causes. I've closed firefox first - no difference. The exe file seemed to vanish from the downloads folder, so this last time I copied it to the desktop. After the error message appears - the exe file has disappeared from the desktop. Weird.
I've tried switching off the warning message on the webpage (in case that was also blocking the newly downloaded file even when I wasn't connected to the internet, but it doesn't seem to make any difference).
Maybe I don't really care whether adobe is working or not, as I don't use the netbook much anyway - but I feel very uneasy with that warning message on so many web pages. I've tried searching forums, but it was all a bit beyond me.
Thanks for any help.hello, can you get adobe's setup to work when you use the ''EXE-installer for Windows/Plugin-based browsers'' from [https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html]?

Want to create and exe file for .java files
Hello all :)
I am making a multi-threaded console application.
It also takes command line parameters from user.
I want to create .exe files out of .java files.
Note:- One class contains main method (in default package) and all other classes are in some specific package
I want to create an exe for the whole application.
The solutions which i get on net is exe4j but i was unable to use it.
Please suggest me to create an windows executable file out of java files.
Thanx in advanceby definition, if you double click on the .exe , you won't pass it parameters
you have to launch a shell, reach the directory where the .exe (or .jar) is stored, and launch the exe directly with parameters, e.g:
myApplication.exe -u user -p password
you can't double click on the exe and say "ok, i give you -u -p!" ; everything has to be done simultaneously if your app is using the "String [] args" arguments of main
if you want to specify parameters after launching the app, you have to grab user input in your main -
How do I launch and exe. file?
I downloaded a youtube to mp3 converter. I have the exe. file but cannot figure out how to launch it to set up the program.
Install Windows with Boot Camp
Exe file only run with Windows
P.S. IMHO a very poor reason installing Windows. I would suggest doing some more ssearching for convertion programs because there are ones for Mac available.
P.S.S. But then I never think that is a good reason to install Windows.

Runtime.exec() and batch files
I am having a problem on Windows 2000 while trying to execute a batch file with the Runtime.exec() method. Basically, the exit value returned from the call to Runtime.exec(), returned specifically by the waitFor() method in the Process class, is always zero, even if the batch file fails miserably. After looking into batch files further, it seems to me that the only way to get the exit value of the commands run in the batch file back to the Runtime.exec() call is to put "EXIT %ERRORLEVEL%" in the batch file. What this actually does is exit the command(cmd) shell that the batch file was running in with the exit code of the last command run. This is all great when calling the batch file with a Runtime.exec() call, but when you run it in a cmd window, the window closes when the batch file completes, because the call to EXIT exits the entire shell. I guess i'm just wondering, am i correct in assuming the exit value returned to the java process is going to be the exit value of the shell in which the batch file is running? I need to have the exit value actually indicate whether the batch file ran successfully or not, and if i have to put in the EXIT %ERRORLEVE% (which exits the cmd shell with the exit value of the last command run), then i'll do that, but if someone knows a better way of doing this, i am all ears. Thanks in advance
To run any command from java code, the method is
Runtime.getRuntime().exec( myCommandString )
Where, myCommandString is something like "/full/pathname/command".
If the pathname contains spaces (specifically in Windows), e.g. "c:\program files\windows\notepad", then enclose it in quotes within the quoted string. Or pre-tokenize them into elements of an array and call exec(String[] cmd) instead of exec(String cmd).
From JDK1.3 there are two new overloaded Runtime.exec() methods. These allow you to specify starting directory for the child process.
Note, there is a gotcha associated with reading output from commands. When the runtime exec's the process, it passes to it 3 streams, for stdin, stdout, and stderr; the out and err are buffered but the buffer size isn't very big. When your process runs, it reads (if needed) from in, and writes to out and err.
If it doesn't write more than the buffer-size, it can run to completion.
But if it tries to write more data to one or the other stream than the buffer can hold, the write blocks, and your process hangs, waiting for you to empty the buffer so it can write some more.
So after the exec call, get the streams, and read from them in a loop until they both hit end-of-stream (don't block on either one, just read whatever is available from each, each loop iteration).
Then when the streams have ended, call the process.waitFor() method to let it finish dying.
Now, here is a code snippet how you achieve this.
String strCommand = "cmd.exe /c " + strCommand;
// For Solaris / unix it will be
// String strCommand = "/usr/cobra/sol/runInstaller.sh";
boolean bWait = true;
//execute the command
try
Runtime r = Runtime.getRuntime();
Process pr = r.exec(strCommand);
Process pr = r.exec(callAndArgs);
BufferedInputStream bis =new BufferedInputStream(pr.getInputStream ());
int c=0;
/** Outlet for IO for the process **/
while (c!=-1)
c=bis.read();
/**Now wait for the process to get finished **/
if(bWait == true)
pr.waitFor();
pr.destroy();
catch(Exception e)
System.out.println("Could not execute process " + strCommand);
return(false); -
I can get the FLV files to play as long as I don't tell the
projector files to play full screen. If I do, as soon as it hits
the first FLV file the projector file goes black and when I hit
escape the file has quit running. The script that I have tried for
full screen is as follows...
flash.system.fscommand("fullscreen", "true")
and
fscommand("fullscreen", "true")
The script I have for my two instances of FLV files (i
resized them) is as follows:
import fl.video.*;
// Video component instance name
var flvControl = display;
var flvSource = "rel-wdb019sr-022_x.flv";
var flvControl2 = display2;
var flvSource2 = "Wedding2.flv";
// Loop the video when it completes
function completeHandler(event:VideoEvent):void
flvControl.seek(0);
flvControl.play()
flvControl2.seek(0);
flvControl2.play()
flvControl.addEventListener(VideoEvent.COMPLETE,
completeHandler);
flvControl2.addEventListener(VideoEvent.COMPLETE,
completeHandler);
// Set video
flvControl.source = flvSource;
flvControl2.source = flvSource2;
Does anybody have any advice?You can with Jugglor, see the FLV player here.

One of my servers quit responding during some troubleshooting of another issue and when I try
to reconfigure it I am receiving Results as follows:
Reserving url http://+:80
The URL has already been reserved.
It appears to me that there is something with the Virtual Directory that is not allowing me to use it or
overwrite it. If I change the name or the port the new configuration works fine, however this is part of a scale-out test environment and I need to keep the virutal directory names the same.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled SSRS in an attempt to resolve, but that did nothing to this issue.
I have used 'netsh http delete urlacl' command and deleted saved urls also but still am facing issue.
How can I manually list, delete, or edit Virtual Directories in SSRS 2012?Hi Syed,
Based on my research, the issue can be caused by the default values for Report Server Web Service and Report Manager has already been reserved. In order to trouble shoot this issue, please refer to the following steps:
To check this issue, we can run the following command in the command windows:
netsh http show urlacl | find "Report"
It should returns the reserved URL as below:
Reserved URL :
http://+:80/ReportServer/
User:
Reserved URL :
http://+:80/Reports/
User:
Then we can delete the reserved URLs with the command below and recreate them to fix this issue:
netsh http delete urlacl http://+:80/ReportServer/
netsh http delete urlacl http://+:80/Reports/

Through Java code I want to execute a exe file which is in aJar file
I am having some classes and an exe file in a directory. I have made them in to a Jar file. In a class file which is in that jar file i want to execute a Exe file which is also resides in that jar file. Is it possible to exexute that EXE file?
For Example....
1. Im having a directory named CLIENT.
2. In that directory I have 10 clss files and an EXE file.
3. These class files and EXE files are ziped in to a Jar file.
4. I have to give the Jar file to my client.
5. He can put that Jar file where ever he installed my product may be C driver or D drive like that
Now the problem is...
I want to execute the Exe File from one of the class where both the exe file and class file resides in the Jar file
This is my requirment
Can anyone Help to me to solve this problem?
Thanks in Advancd
Ibram Shah.A.M
([email protected])The answer is to extract the EXE into a temp directory, execute it, and delete it when you're done. For example:
//This is the path *inside* the JAR file!
InputStream in = getClass().getResourceAsStream("/resources/myprog.exe");
OutputStream out = new FileOutputStream("myprog.exe");
File file = new File("myprog.exe");
int data;
while((data = in.read()) >= 0) out.write(data);
in.close();
out.close();
//Execute the EXE here using java.lang.Runtime.exec()
if(file.exists()) file.delete();

Downloads seem to be happening normally at first but the file shows up with a file extension of ".part" that I can not use or open. If I refresh the folder where it was downloaded to, it disappears as though it wasn't there at all.
I used to do this and it just yesterday started to give me problems. It doesn't seem to matter what file type I do this with as PDF, MP3 and EXE files have all shown this problem.
Please help!It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files by Firefox.<br />
Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.
