  • Query with different parameter take different time to execute.

    Hi,
    I am a C/C++ programmer and newbie to database. I find weird case to my company database. oracle 10g.
    I have a query (below). When I set GENRE_ID value to 20, query execution time only take *5* seconds. But when I change to 10, it take *54* seconds! The same query but different values GENRE_ID (20 or 10) -- it also happen to other GENRE_ID values.
    on below query
    WHERE substr(GENRE_ID,0,2) = 10 and GENRE_ID != 10) take 54 seconds
    WHERE substr(GENRE_ID,0,2) = 20 and GENRE_ID != 20) take 5 seconds
    The explain plan give exact same result for both queries.

The same query but different values GENRE_ID (20 or 10) -- it also happen to other GENRE_ID values.This is to be expected. Even an IDENTICAL query can (and often will) have DIFFERENT execution times.
    The typical reason is how fast the query process can get to the data block(s) containing the relevant row(s). Is that data block still on disk and require expensive and slow physical I/O to move it into the buffer cache for use? Is that data block already cached for much faster logical I/O access? If in memory, is there any contention in getting a latch for the chain the data block hangs off from (how hot is that block)? Etc.
    The run-time environment is not static. Thus execution times of queries (called cursors in Oracle) is not static. Execution times are expected to vary.
    Some basics. SQL code is source code. SQL code needs to be parsed and converted into a set of instructions that the server can execute. So it is similar to C/C++. SQL source code needs to be compiled. This executable code in Oracle is called a cursor.
    Like your code, the cursor can be executed with different input variables (bind variables). However, that code would have been compiled using certain assumptions about the data. And that executable code may work fine for some input data, and work not so okay for other input data. As the input parameter values are not not equal. E.g. there are a 1000 rows to process when employee type parameter is "employee" and only 10 rows when it is "manager". The code could have been compiled with the assumption that 10 rows would be the average for all input parameters - the Cost Based Optimiser needs to base its decision on the best execution path for that SQL source code on certain assumptions about the data. These may not always be correct. (usually due incorrect or stale stats about the data)
    Thus you also need to look at what the execution plan is (the URL for which has already been supplied).

  • Triggerring a query of different system from WAD template

    Hi,
    I have a WAD template that has a button. When I click on button, it should open a new window and a query from different SAP system should open for execution.
    For instance: The web template is built in QD system and the query to be executed is built in BD system.
    Is this possible in WAD?
    Best Regards,
    Pankaj

    Hello,
    I'm sorry but regarding your first question (about extra fees) i have no clue: it depends on the customer, its SAP system landscape, and even the sales rep... so I'm not sure you can find any response on this forum. The best you can do is contact the sales rep of the customer for which you're thinking about installing CRM Interactive reporting.
    And as far as configuration is concerned, I would check OSS: many notes are dealing about this subject. Check out application area CRM-ANA-OR:

  • Log the query of the "Execute Query Task"

    Hi,
    I want to log/watch the query executed by the "Execute query Task". It's a query  with different variables, the different variables i can see in one of the debug windows and these looks OK, but the query doesn't do what's expected. So i want to see the whole query, is that possible?
    Query logging on the database server isn't an option. The server is an oracle server and the dba doesn't want to change this setting.
    Thanks,
    Dennis

    You could use a single variable to store your entire query, and use that in your Execute SQL task. Basically, you need to set the variable to evaluate as an expression, then build your query string in the variable. You can use this to combine your
    other variables into the query, and see it as one value at runtime.
    I am using SSIS 2008. I know I can do it with a variable. But I was wondering why SSIS does not allow you to log the query easily. Just for this, I will have to create a variable and a script task :(

  • 5200 : Error in executing  query -- Hyperion Financial Reporting

    Problem in accessing the Hyperion Financial Reports.User is having full access and able to access all the folders except one folder(Legal Folder reports). We are getting 5200: Error Executing the query error. Recently we have upgraded Hyperion to 11.1.1.3 version . Before upgrade user is not facing the problem. After Upgrade user is getting these errors while accessing the reports. we did research and found in "Error 5200: Error Executing Query" When Viewing Financial Reporting (FR) Reports". Is this error is relevant to the Information provided in Metalink and also can you please tell us is there any impact on doing the solution provided in the below. Why is this error is coming is any preferences needs to be changed.Please help us on this.
    Error Description:
    5200: Error executing query
    Servername/ApplicationName/DatabaseName/Error(1007090) Unknown Member name [Current Point of view for years] in Outline Query
    Doc ID 1107142.1:
    Possible Cause 1:
    If members have recently been added, moved, or deleted from the data source, Essbase, HFM, or Planning, the existing User POV records become out of sync.
    The User Point of View record uses indexing to identify the member. If the index changes because of changes in the outline, the User Point of View record no longer points to the correct location in the outline.
    To resolve the issue, you need to run the ManageUserPOV utility on a Windows server that has the Financial Reporting Reports Server, or in a Unix or Linux environment, has the Financial Reporting Print Server installed.
    You will need to provide a BIPlus Global Administrator user ID and password to run the utility.
    The utility will provide the correct syntax to run the command.
    1. In \Hyperion\products\biplus\bin\ManageUserPOV.properties, specify the following parameters:
    a. ReportServer
    b. DatasourceUser
    c. DatasourcePassword
    d. User
    e. Datasource (You can find the datasource in Workspace under Tools>Database Connection Manager in the Name column.)
    2. From the command line, cd to Hyerion\products\biplus\bin
    3. Type in "ManageUserPOV" without the quotes. The executable will read the parameters previously set in the ManageUserPOV.properties file.

    hi all,
    In my when-new-form-instance form level trigger i have given go_block('blockname')
    execute_query
    but this execute query is not firing .when i checked using message i was able to reach line b4 and after the execute query but still it has not populated the data from the base table.
    the base table also contains records.
    when i run this particular fmx in the similliar but differnt database this form runs well and data gets populated automatically.
    i am unable to move fwd becouse of this i have spend many hours on this issue. please help me out.
    please write for any further clarifications..
    thanks and regards,

    There is no data on the table that satisfies the query. Copy the data from the database that does return data and try again. Are you looking at the correct table, it maybe a synonym issue as someone previously mentioned.
    A trick to see the select statement is this :- Press enter_query, enter :A into one of the query fields, press enter_query. A query box should appear. Type dog=1 and click ok. You will then get an error message (FRM-40505). Choose 'Display error' of the help menu (or Shift+F1). This will display the select statement. Obviously ignore the dog=1 as this is what caused the error but look at the where clause for clues.
    It does sound like the form is looking at at different table to you.

  • Which user/schema executed query in V$SQLAREA

    I am looking on one row/query in view "V$SQLAREA" and want to which user/schema was used to log in to the database when that one query was executed. How i can get that schema name?
    Should i look this column maybe:
    V$SQLAREA
    PARSING_SCHEMA_NAME             VARCHAR2(30)      Schema name that was used to parse this child cursor( http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14237/dynviews_2129.htm )
    I have Java software that uses different database schemas/users to make connections to my database. And i want to know for one query which schema/user was used to connect to database before running the query.
    I think i need to join "V$SQLAREA" to view V$SESSION and there the column "USERNAME" tells me the connection user name for the executed query.
    V$SESSION
    USERNAME      VARCHAR2(30)      Oracle username
    ( http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14237/dynviews_2088.htm )Seems like i fail to join "V$SQLAREA" to view V$SESSION:
    select q.SQL_TEXT, q.sql_id, q.PARSING_SCHEMA_NAME, q.ADDRESS, q.last_active_time, s.USERNAME, s.SCHEMANAME from v$sqlarea q, v$session s
    where q.last_active_time > sysdate - 1
    and q.sql_text like 'DELETE FROM casino.lgngameoperationlog WHERE sessionCode%'
    and s.sql_address=q.address
    order by last_active_time desc
    no rows found
    select q.SQL_TEXT, q.sql_id, q.PARSING_SCHEMA_NAME, q.ADDRESS, q.last_active_time from v$sqlarea q
    where q.last_active_time > sysdate - 1
    and q.sql_text like 'DELETE FROM casino.lgngameoperationlog WHERE sessionCode%'
    order by last_active_time desc
    'DELETE FROM casino.lgngameoperationlog WHERE sessionCode = :1 and sessionType = :2';     51thfgbubkkg6;     JAVA;     0000000392523658;     28.10.2010 18:09:14;
    */

    I have Java software that uses different database schemas/users to make connections to my database. And i want to know for one query which schema/user was used to connect to database before running the query.If the SQL-text sits inside your Java code, that is the text does not sit inside some stored pl/sql program unit, then you can use parsing_schema_id, yes.
    If the SQL-text sits inside a stored procedure, then depending on how that procedure is defined (invoker rights or definer rights), you could use parsing_schema_id too (in the first case (invoker rights)).

  • Execute Query problem in viewing the Image

    Hi all,
    I've created a table with the following command
    Create table test (id Number(5),img_File Blob);
    Now i've created a form, where in the I've placed two fields (id and Img_File). The data type for the Img_File field is Image Item. I'm able to see that it is getting saved.
    I've seen it using the toad that the data is being inserted into the table. When i try to press f7 and then f8(i.e.., Enter Quey, Execute Query). I'm getting the following error.
    ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected got
    My block is based on the table. I'm using Forms 6i, Windows XP. My doubt is why the error is not showing the datatype (for Ex. Expected Number got date).
    If any one has worked on the Blob, then can suggest me.
    Regards,
    Alok Dubey

    Hi,
    Thanks for your replies. I've used Long Raw data type for the image column. it started get queying.
    i've a doubt that whether it is same in Forms 6i and Forms 10g also(i.e.., Both the versions use the Long for the images). As BLob has more advantages than
    the Long raw. As this is the Oracle recommendation, I want to use Blob. Is there any work around to it.

  • Problem in Execute query on non-database block and database block together

    Hi All,
    In my form,i have
    1. First block is Non-database block with one non-database item.
    2. Second and third blocks are database blocks.
    Now the problem is that i want to perform execute-query for all the blocks.
    If the cursor is on the non-database item of 1st block and i clicks on the "Enter-query" then i am getting message " This function can not be performed here".
    If i click on the item of the database block and then clicks on the "Enter-query" and then "execute-query" it's working fine.
    But i don't want to do in this way.
    My cursor will be on the First block only and then it should perform execute-query.
    I am using this non-database item to copy value of this item to the item of the database block item.
    I think i make you understand about my problem.
    I am using forms 10g on Window xp.
    Please help me.

    Hi!
    Simply create a enter-query trigger on the non-database-block:
    begin
    go_block ( 'database_block' );
    enter_query;
    end;If your search criteria is in the non-database-item in the first block,
    you actually do not need the enter_query build-in.
    Just create a execute-query trigger on the first block like:
    begin
    go_block ( 'database_block' );
    execute_query;
    go_item ( :System.trigger_item );
    end;And in a pre-query trigger on the database-block copy the
    value of your seach item into the item you want to search for.

  • Use plan from stored_outlines from query with different syntax?

    Hello,
    I'd like to know is there any ability to use via stored_outlines plan from query with different syntax?
    Database version - 11.1.06
    If yes, maybe you'll take a look at steps (based on Metalink 726802.1), what I tried to do to make it work (with no success):
    alter session set create_stored_outlines=good;
    run good query
    create private outline good from SYS_OUTLINE_0... -< GOOD
    alter session set create_stored_outlines=bad;
    run bad query
    create private outline good from SYS_OUTLINE_0... -< BAD
    update ol$ set sql_text, textlen, signature, hash_value, hash_value2 from BAD to GOOD records
    leave ol$hintcount for GOOD untouched
    delete ol$ where ol_name='BAD';
    delete ol$hints where ol_name='BAD';
    delete ol$nodes where ol_name='BAD';
    execute dbms_outln_edit.refresh_private_outline('GOOD');
    alter session set sql_trace=true;
    alter session set use_private_outlines=true;
    run bad query
    examine trace file and find that it use execution plan different from both bad and good queries

    A query with different syntax would result in a different hash value.
    Stored outlines work based on hash value.
    Your question is probably answered now.

    Hi,
    I am using 8.1.7.2 and i have the lattest spatial patch.
    From the start i had different SRID. The only thing i changed was the bounds of the coordinate system.
    I reset my bounds of the coordinate system with SRID 8307 to -180,
    180 in X (longitude), and -90,90 in Y (latitude) to see if the query window geometry
    (geom2) will be transformed to the coordinate system of the layer geometries (geom1)
    Her is the content of the user_sdo_geom_metadata :
    GIS_PCP GEOMETRIE_POINT
    SDO_DIM_ARRAY(SDO_DIM_ELEMENT('X', -5800000, 3600000, .00000005), SDO_DIM_ELEMENT('Y', 3516000, 6000000, .00000005))

    Here is my query :
    select /*+ ordered */ A.no_point

    WHERE SDO_RELATE(A.geometrie_POINT, B.GEOMETRIE_POLYGONE, 'mask=anyinteract querytype=WINDOW') = 'TRUE';

    If i change the bounds of GIS_TEST to the exact bouns of GIS_PCP then i dont have the error message above and i have correct results. Do i have the adjust the bounds of every layer to fit the biggest bound?

  • Labview executable immediately quits on WIndows XP

     Greetings,
    Short description of the problem: I build an executable of my Labview 2010 (32-bit) project on my Windows 7 (64-bit) development machine and it runs fine. When I attempt to run the .exe on a different Windows 7 (32-bit) machine it runs fine. When I try to run it on any Windows XP machine, the executable starts and then quits immediately. No error message is reported and it appears that the VI doesn't ever start executing. My installer includes the LV2010 run-time engine and NI-VISA run-time. The application window opens just for a split second, just long enough to see the front panel briefly, before disappearing.
    Background: This problem showed up early in the project but it went away when I installed Service Pack 1 for Labview 2010. I assumed it was some obscure bug. I went through several revisions of the project over the next couple of months. Most of the target machines run Windows 7 so I never spent a lot of time testing the executables on WinXP but all of the early versions worked fine. At some point in the development the executables stopped working on Windows XP. I haven't made any changes to the build specifications or installer that I can find.
    I've found the latest revision of my code that produces an executable that works on WinXP. There are a lot of small changes between that version of the code and the earliest non-working version I have but none of them seem like they should cause such a fundamental failure.
    I cannot even use the debugger on the XP target machine. The window will appear and wait for me to start the debugger. As soon as I start execution (either locally or via the debugger) the application quits immediately and closes the connection with the debugger. I cannot probe any signals or set any breakpoints. Nothing in the VI code executes prior to quitting.
    No errors are generated, no crash message, nothing in the Windows event log. Just...poof.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Dave

    In addition to race conditions, bad (or non existant) error handling is also known to create such issues. Please note that executables do not have "automatic error handling" so maybe errors are simply not reported, but the code exits execution.
    Sources of errors like this are often:
    - File IO and plugins (relative paths may change in exe!)
    - Trying to load components which require recompile (which is done in the development system without notifying you, but the RTE cannot do this). Refers to plugins mainly.
    - Using DLLs which are either not found or have invalid parameter settings in exe (unhandled exception of either the DLL itself or the LV RTE when accessing return values).
    Are you sure that you have all components installed on each machine (please remember that there are modules requiring dedicated RTEs)?
    Can you try building the exe on a XP machine? Does it behave differently?
    thanks,
    Norbert
    PS: I am not aware that there is a general issue. If this issue is persistent on your machines, i would take a look into user rights on each system. Does the behavior change if you meddle with the user rights?
