Experiences with Sun T2000 servers on SAP systems

Hello,
We are currently involved in a project to migrate our SAP systems from a Windows 2003 to a Solaris 10 platform.  Our application server layer will be based on Sun T2000 servers for both ABAP and Java stacks.
I would be interested in hearing from anyone using T2000s in the application server layer to understand their perception of the performance of these systems.
Thanks in advance,
Brendan Byrne

We have actually solved the issues sourrounding performance on sun multi threaded servers.
What you need to do is create a 'Zone' on the solaris server and then allocate resources to the zone.
Then sap seems to fly.
This is fully supported by the way.
Just set this up with NW7 on a T2000 and some T5120's
Basically what occurs is that you setup SAP on one zone.
You then allocate the full 64cpus to this zone, as well as the 32/64gb of ram.
SAP runs as one thread within the zone, but the zone then allocates this thread across all the cpus.
Works like a dream,
Regards
James

  • Anyone has experience with sun idm data exporter /warehouse funtionality ?

Anyone has experience with sun idm data exporter /warehouse functionality. There is not much documentation about how to debug it. I created everything like in the document. Everything seems running fine. I get the following the server tasks->Run Tasks
Data Warehouse Exporter      Data Warehouse Exporter      Configurator      executing
Prior to that i created database and 50 tables as it said in the doc.
I created accounts and modify email address. Nothing is getting to my warehouse database and i don;t know where to look for the errors. Any information is appreciated.

    Hi there,
I have been looking at the source code and I think I have found the problem.
IDM determines whether to update or create a resource account
by attempting to fetch the user from the resource.
If the user exists then update, otherwise create.
In the code, if the user does not exist, the code throws the
    exception: EntityDoesNotExist(1301)
The code then catches this exception
and then returns a null back to IDM,
indicating that the user does not exist.
Well, that is what the code says but this does
    not match its actual behaviour....
I then decompiled the actual class (jar) files
and the code there does NOT catch the exception,
so it bubbles up to IDM, which regards it as an error.
Soo, the jar file that is on the website has a bug in it.
The source code in SVN is correct, but it appears
that the jar file was not rebuilt.
I am attempting to rebuild a new version of the jar file...

  • Integration of SAP Cloud for Customer with third party / legacy / non-sap system using SAP Netweaver PI

    Hello,
has anyone experience with the Integration of a 3rd Party System with SAP C4C using SAP Netweaver Process Integration?
Is this a process of days, weeks or months?
    Any documentation on this?
I am thankful for every Input!
    BR, Roman

    Roman,
Please read through the integration guides available on the SAP service marketplace as they address this specific topic in great detail.

  • Jobchain scheduling with EVENTs and in different SAP systems or isol. grou

    Hi,
    I have the following task:
    - Jobchain A in SAP system 1 raises EVENT E1
    - Jobchain B in SAP system 1 raises EVENT E2
    - Jobchain C should run after A and B in SAP system 2.
Jobchain A and B are defined in isolation group I1.
Jobchain C is defined in isolation group I2.
Where and how do I have to define the EVENTs.
We have a full demo version.
    Thanks.

    Hi Günne,
The main idea of isolation groups is that there are no dependencies between objects/jobs/... in different isolation groups.
So the job chains need to be in the same isolation group.

  • Experience with Sun Fire 4800 and OVM 3.0.3?

    Greetings,
We are looking to confirm with "first hand experience" if Oracle VM 3.0.3 works on the Sun Fire 4800 server platform.
We would really appreciate your comments about your experience running Oracle VM 3.0.3 on the Sun Fire 4800 series platform.
    Thank you,
    Roddy

I have been able to install Oracle VM on X4800 3.0.3 if thats whats you mean, I however having a few other issues with using Pillar Axiom FC plugins with it, I have ongoing SR on it. The release note(http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E26996_01/e18546.pdf) for OracleVM 3.0.3 provides some useful hints for installing the server on a 4800.

  • Experience with NIO client servers

    Dear Forum
I am going to build a xml socket server and would like to use NIO rather than multi threadeding.
What the server will do is accept client connections and run them on their own thread, these clients will then be able to send/recieve data in xml and also make simple queries to a mysql database.
I have developed a similar system using conventional thread methods but not with NIO, the main problem that I have is i cannot see an example where a client connects a new thread is started for that client and then its reference is stored on the server allowing messages to be sent by iterating through the client vector. Is this the same for NIO?
Any suggestions or pearls of wisdom would be great..
    Thankyou..

If your application is basically multithreaded you are better off using the stream based sockets. If you insist on using NIO, I've posted information on multiple threads and NIO in Taming the NIO Circus. You biggest problems will come from the fact that interestOps and register block if a select is active. This forces you do do those all from the thread that does the select. You need to use a queue. Also NIO doesn't support SSL at present, maybe in 1.5.

  • Your Experience with RSSM / compatibility mode in BW 3.X ?

    Hi Folks,
we have a dozen of InfoObjects referencing 0costcenter. These Objects are used in several InfoProviders and queries.
We also have more than 500 authorizations definitions for hierarchies, at the time being defined on 0costcenter.
This all works fine with RSSM compatibility for referencing Characteristics switched to “on”.
Now I came across the strong recommendation of SAP (Note 728 077) to switch off all compatibility modes in BW 3.X systems.
If I understood it correctly, we’ll have to create an authorization object for each referencing InfoObject, which is not the point. Moreover we’ll have to duplicate all our authorization definitions so that every node is defined for every referencing InfoObject. This will result in more than 5,000 authorization definitions! Needless to say, that we’re afraid of maintainability.
We’re therefore tending to keep compatibility mode switched to “on”, which means to ignore SAP’s recommendation.
Could you please share your experiences with compatibility mode in 3.X Systems?
Is there another way to obey the recommendation and not ending up in a bunch of authorization definitions?
How is this issue solved in BW 7.0?
    Looking forward to your answers.
    Best regards
    Robert

    Hi,
go to RSSM and give your infoprovider name and check the authrization objects which are present in the infoprovider ...it will have option ticked.
Basically authorizations are based on company code or sales org.
give that authorization object in the first option in RSSM and check on which infoobject it is based.
Also you can give your user id in one of the option in this transaction RSSM and then you can check for that authorization object do you have any values present for the included infoobjects or not.
You will not have those values entry here in the authorization object for those selections which you are giving during the report run.
Just change the vales here and give the desired value for which you are running the report.
    Save it.

  • BAPI calling from a non SAP system.

    Dear Experts,
I would like to know how can I call a BAPI from a non SAP system, a breif idea/with example ( from any non SAP system ) and sample coding will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks, Sudeep..

    Hi,
there are couple of possibilities. For example you can export your BAPI as a web service and then use standard tools for web services. There are also libraries to allow RFC calls from different programming languages. You can see all possibilities such as SAP Java connector supported by SAP on https://service.sap.com/connectors. There are also additional libraries not supported by SAP such as SAPRFC extension module for PHP. As you can see there are so many ways how to call RFC enabled FM. You can find examples for each method here on SCN.

  • Oracle DB on new SUN T5440 servers - any experience?

I get SUN people all over me to try their new T series...
Has anyone deployed or tested ODB on SUN T5440 servers?
Does it show any inprovement against the older M4000 or Sunfire systems (i/o, multi-threading, CPU utilization ... etc') ?
    Thank you in advance
    Hanoch

This is one approach. Might I suggest that if they are so hot to get you to buy one of these boxes that you try it another way ...
    1. Ask them for a list of references in your area.
    2. Ask them to deliver one to you for 60 days, no charge, for eval.
My experience with my apps and my workload may be very different from yours. Also, once it is in your possession you find not
only determine the relevant metrics but it becomes a "used" box if you decide to purchase it.
PS: Oracle is now in the process of purchasing Sun and that might be a good thing.
Except that Oracle also wants to keep on very good terms with Dell, HP and IBM so Sun may be expendable.
Do you really want to make a decision about Sun until you see more of Oracle's cards on the table?
I would be highly inclined to wait until after OpenWorld.

    Hi gurus!
    I have a following quote:
    Dear !
I have a problem with send and receive email in SAP system following :
I want to test send and receive email in local network at my company. I
    had two server
Server 1 : I setup Exchange Mail Server 2007 with domain controller is
    fes.com
    Server 2 : I setup SAP ERP ECC 6.0
On Server 1 : I created 2 account ( u1Afes.com and u2Afes.com ) and then I tested send and receive email between u1 and u2 in local network through Microsoft Outlook 2007 -> OK
    and then
On Server 2: I had configured send and receive email on SAP system
through tcode SBWP, SCOT and SOST as Note 455140 - "Configuration of
e-mail, fax, paging or SMS using SMTP"
    for example :
I logged in SAP system with user Basis01 (with email u1Afes.com ) -> then, using tcode SBWP -> new message -> send to u2Afes.com with Internet Mail type and then status message with green light -> sending ok
and then I have used Microsoft Outlook 2007, I logged with account u2 ->check email -> Ok. I saw message which send from u1
Finally, My problem is how can receive mail in SAP system without using Microsoft Outlook

I replace "@" with "A" because of banning email of this forum.
This quote is about sending email in local network. And we can't receive any email from the outside email address. Addition if I wanna send email to internal email in Internet (we've just tried with email address in local network) What should I config in SAP and Exchange ?
By the way, Is SAP Server IP added to Relay Agent for sending or receiving mail ?

    Hi,
This problem is a classic problem of mail routing via Exchange. Exchange like most mail servers use the domain part of the email address as a means to route mails. So I will make an assumption that your main company mail addrss is "User @ fes.com".
So when you send a mail to the "User @ fes.com mail" address the mail is delivered to your Outlook mail address as this is the default route for company.
    (Q) So how do you get your Exchange server to relay the mail into the sending SAP system?
    (A) The easiest way would be to setup and unique mail domain for your SAP system. I always recommend "user @ client.sid.company.com" which in your case would be "u1 @ 100.PRD.fes.com". You can then instruct Exchange to send any emails addressed to 100.PRD.fes.com domain to your SAP system. Also using this format of address you can configure multiple mail connections into multiple SAP systems.
    (A) Another answer would be to enter the "Full" email address (LOcal and Domain part of address) into the routing rule for Exchange e.g. "U1 @ fes.com" so that all emails addressed to this user will be delivered into SAP. However this method requires a lot of Admin as you will have to update Exchange with ALL email address that need to receive emails. Also if your corporate mail address is "U1 @ fes.com" then all mails will be forwarded to SAP.
I would definitely NOT recommend this method but the decision is up to you.
P.S. The IP address of the SAP system is entered into the mail header of the email. This is standard practice in SMTP relay. You can suppress this header in Exchange
    Hope this helps

  • App.server load balancing for SAP System with 1 PS

    Hi,
In SAP CPS 7.0 (Build M26.12) I have a SAP system with Central Instance + 10 App.servers, but all instances are managed by 1 ProcessServer.
After activating the "App.server load balancing" setting in SAP system definition the application servers are becoming visible in CPS with their load factors (number of BGD wp's on app.servers) and load numbers (number of active jobs on app.servers).
This is so far fine, but the additional functionality is not working as I would expect, I have issues with 2 functionalities:
    1. Based on documentation after activating also the XAL connection the CPS should submit the job on app.server with best performance based on XAL monitoring data filling the TARGET_SERVER parameter.
This functionality is not working for me at all
    2. A useful functionality after activating the "App.server load balancing" setting is that the ProcessServer is going to "Overloaded" status when all BGD wp's of SAP system are occupied, thus restricting submitting new jobs during overload situation. But I had an issue also with this functionality, after SAP system recovery from overload situation, the CPS still remained in Overload status (so no new jobs were submitted).
As a workaround I had increased the treshold values for loads on all app.servers for this SAP system, what was fine for several days, but after a while I believe this was a reason of unexpected performance issues in CPS, therefore I have deactivated the 'App.server load balancing" setting at all for this ProcessServer.
I would appreciate your feedbacks with this functionality.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Ernest Liczki

    Hi Preetish,
This connect string option is to loadbalance RFC connections. These are balanced upon login, once you are connected to a particular application server (AS) you stay on that server until you reconnect.
Since CPS uses multiple RFC connections, this will result in the connections being distributed over the available AS resources which is fine as long as they are generally evenly loaded. If you have certain AS hosts that are continuosly more loaded than the rest, then you probably don't want the CPS RFC connections to end up on these servers.
The original question is about loadbalancing of batch jobs over the available AS resources, and this is done independent of the RFC connection load balancing. Even if all CPS RFC connections are pinned to the DB/CI host, you can still loadbalance jobs over the available SAP AS hosts, either by using SAPs builtin balancing, or the CPS algorithm by activating the checkbox as indicated in the first entry in this thread.
Finally, to reply to Ernest's question: I believe there are some fixes on the app load balancing in the latest release, M26.17 should be available on the SWDC now.
    Regards,
    Anton.

  • Multiple SAP Systems with one Unique ID

    Hi,
SAP recommend to have <sidadm> and <sapserviceSID> user account for each system.
Currently we create domain users for each SAP System.  We are installing many test servers and trying to see if I can avoid creating domain user account for each system and use only one account to administer all test sap systems.
Just wanted to know if there is any way to have one domain SIDADM user id and one domain SAPService user account to run multiple test SAP systems?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Multiple test system you have different SID. so you must use different SAPserviceSID user. But you can use one SIDADM user with the proper permission with other test systems.
I have used in OS400 environment with single SIDADM user id.
please check with users with permission sap notes or document.
    But SAP not recommanded this.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Jibin.

  • Fall back systemwhen multiple SAP systems trying to acheive SSO with BOEXI

    Friends,
I need a small clarification on ' SSO between BOE XI 3.1 and SAP BI 7' Scenario,
Say when multiple users log on through their  SAP EP Portals or Netwever Portals, they use their tokens generated by their respective EP portals which are passed through the 'Web application server' hosting BOE environment.
    1) When  its a Single EP portal , we can have have a fall back system. when we register  its logical name in the CMC of BOE Environment , a typical SNC.But what's the fall back system for multiple SAP systems?
    2) Also Whether there are any pit falls via token method  when more than one SAP system communicating to BOE?
    3) Do we have any documentation for this?
    Thanks ,
    Sivakanth.

    Hi Sivakanth,
the normal scenario for SSO is the following:
When you said ''back end system ', i did not get it.
    Enterprise Portal -
    (iView)-------> BOE -
    > SAP BI <- This is your backend system
Well Could I define more than one logical name there in SNC tab of CMC.?
I assume you have the following situation:
    (EP1, EP2, EP3) -
    > BOE -
    > (SAP BI 1, SAP BI 2, SAP BI n)
You can define more than one entitlement systems in the BOE CMC and also configure for each one of them for SNC. Please note that we are talking about server trust and NOT client trust here. It is all about letting your sap system and the boe system trust each other. If you have your portal with client SNC configured (ie. the user logs using a certificate and an SAP logon ticket is created) it is NOT necessary to configure SNC in the CMC (Please refer to the section "Configuring SAP Server-Side Trust" in the installation guide for the integration kit for SAP) side.
Back to the SSO scenario now: When a user connects from an enterprise portal on the BOE system the logon ticket, generated from the portal, is forwarded to the back-end system, which is defined in the portal iView the user is currently navigating through. If it is a Crystal Enterprise iView then you just have to select the appropriate system alias of your back-end system in the System drop down menu when creating the iView. For URL iViews you must utilize the relevant openDocument parameters. If you do not define anything at all when creating the iView then BOE tries to authenticate the logon ticket against the SAP BI system you selected to be the default one in the "Authentication->SAP->Options" tab of the CMC.
If what you want is just to distribute the load between your SAP back-end systems then you should consider utilizing an SAP cluster for your pursposes. As explained before BOE will not distribute the requests evenly on the back-end systems. It will try to contact either the system defined in the request (iView) or the default system. To be honest I am not sure what happens if the explicitely defined system is not available but I think that an error message is what you should expect then. I do not think that in this case the BOE system tries to use the system defined as default.
Another part is what kind of security is defined in BEX querys..as i read from SAP IK guide, we can import all the roles which are defined at ABAB level.
Will there be any security threats to SAP data via this method.
It is true that you can import all roles in your BOE system. But keep the following four things in mind:
    1) You can restrict on the BOE side the users which are authorized to logon in the CMC and import the roles (normally only the BOE administrator is authorized to do this)
    2) Importing a role means that an SAP user can try to logon the BOE. Still the logon process can only be succesfull only if the SAP user has special authorization on the SAP side (Please check the Appendix "Authorizations" in the installation guide of the integration Kit for SAP.
    3) You can restrict the access to data by assigning authorizations only for specific infoareas/infoproviders. In order to partially restrict data access in a given infoprovider (e.g infocube or multiprovider) you can utilize authorization variables in your BW query.
    4) You can further restrict access on specific reports either on the BOE side or on the portal side (by rstricting access to the defined iViews).
For sure you must invest some time to define and implement your security concept.
More over could you please answer other 2 questions in my original question.
    2) Also Whether there are any pit falls via token method when more than one SAP system communicating to BOE?
    3) Do we have any documentation for this?
    2) As long as your portals, the back-end systems and your BOE system are configured correctly for SSO this should not be a problem. Well just a tip based on my experience: be sure to use full qualified domain names for your systems in the iView definitions. And do not forget SSO works only if all systems are in the same domain.
    3) As said in my previous posting the netweaver documentation regadring SSO setup maybe interesting for you. As far as I know the multiple systems scenario is not contained explicitely in any official BOBJ documentation. I assume that you already went through the installation guide for the integration kit for SAP.
Please tell me if you have a completely different scenario in mind
