Export IDML in CS4 -Indesign not responding

Hi,
After I do some process in Indd I export  the active document to IDML using java script code.
When Idml Export function is called, Indesign is  not completing this process.
When I force quit the application Indesign not responding status was there.
i am using the below code for export idml, Kindly help me on this
function exportIDML(idmlPathNm)
    var myIDMLFile = new File(idmlPathNm);
    app.activeDocument.exportFile(ExportFormat.INDESIGN_MARKUP, myIDMLFile);

I have found another cause for "hangs" in Indesign CS5. After removing the SING components, I found that the frequency of hangs greatly decreased except for files I had using the Times font. Files I had which didn't contain the Times font did not give me a problem. Files which had the Times font would still hang and when I reopened them, Indesign would tell me that I was missing the font. I could close the file without saving and reopen and the Times font would be there. Then ID would hang.
Since I work with a lot of template files, I went and changed all the Times fonts to Cambria. I haven't had a hang since then.
Don't know why there's a conflict other than maybe the copy of Times I have been using for the last 4 years has suddenly became corrupt or else it's an issue between the version of Times I have and CS5. It still works fine on the desktop I have running IDCS4.
Curious.

  • CS4 InDesign not printing correctly on HP1320 LaserJet for 2-sided booklets

I'm trying to print chapters in a book, using 2-sided printing from CS4 InDesign (V 6.0.4) to an HP1320 LaserJet printer using an iMac computer. This used to work with CS InDesign (V 3.0.1) using a Dell PC and the same printer. The page prints on both sides, but is limited to 8.5 inches of the 11 in side.  [My pages are 5 1/2 by 8 1/2 with two pages on one side of the page; when finished, the book is 5 1/2" by 8.5".] I've tried lots of combinations of page orientation in both the InDesign File/Print Booklet/Print Settings.../Setup and in the File/Print Booklet/Print Settings.../Printer... but nothing seems to solve this. Any suggestions?  Thanks.

You need to be sure the print dialog is set up to print the pages in landscape orientation.
    -=-=-=-=-
I'd be happy to try. Here are the steps I take, but you should realize that I've done this so many times over the past several days (up to a couple of weeks) that I try different things each time.
I've got a couple of book projects that use similar formats. One is a textbook and the second is a daily log I keep (not always "daily"). Both are printed and bound to become books that are on the order of 400 to 500 pages and are 8.5" by 5.5" in size.  So, I have a file I want to print and I want it to come out with side-by-side 5.5 x 8.5" pages (two on each side of an 8 1/2 by 11 inch sheet of paper (i.e., two sided printing).
In InDesign, I click on File, Print Booklet..., and here is what the window looks like: [see attached file "Screen shot 2009-12-02 at 5.51.44 PM.pgn.]
To get it to show "Booklet Type: 2-up Saddle Stitch," I had to click on "Print Settings" at the bottom and select "Setup" and then "Orientation: landscape (2nd from the left on the choice of four orientations)."  I also usually go to "Page Setup..." and make sure I chose "Orientation: landscape."
Then I go to the "Printer..." button at the bottom of the "Print" window and select things so it looks like this:  [see attached file "Screen shot 2009-12-02 at 5.57.44 PM.pgn.]
To get this, I had to click on the "Layout" option and then "Booklet Printing." That automatically selected "Two-Sided" printing.
As far as choices go, I think that is it.
The page that printed most recently with those settings came out with four (not two) pages on each side of the page. Further, the four pages that printed on the back side of the sheet of paper were upside down relative to those on the front side. This may be the result of using "2-up Saddle Stitch" but I'm not sure of that.
But here is the problem that has really been bugging me: the pages on one side of the paper don't go as far toward the margin as they should. Here is one example of low-res pictures of the front of the page that printed.
The page shows two full "pages" along the left top and right top, but along the left and right bottom pages, only about half of the pages printed.  The back side of the sheet of paper was similar, with only half of the "pages" showing for two of the four pages on this side.
So, I hope this is enough information for you. I'd be happy to provide more if needed. And thank you for even attempting to help. I've been struggling with this issue for a couple of weeks (I'm retired, so I sure don't spend full time on it, but I sure have spent hours at it, all to no avail).

  • Illustrator and InDesign not responding

Illustrator and InDesign keep shutting down or not responding. I am using large files(Im designing wallpaper for my final piece, i do it on Photoshop, then try and transfer parts to Illustartor to put it together and get it to line up at the edges etc) so i dont know whether thats the problem, Ive tried shrinking them down but i dont want to shink them too much incase they are all pixelated when i print them out

Nobody can tell anything without some system info and exact details about your documents. most such crashes have nothing to do with teh programs themselves, but rather specific things being used in the files like certain fonts, color profiles and so on...

  • CS4 "Printer Not Responding"

Hi, I successfully printed a doc from CS4 with my canon ip4300 printer, seconds later another would not print. The printer dialogue says "printer not responding".
After re-start got message "unrecognised USB device" , so I uninstalled then re-installed the printer.
I can now print from Notepad and Lightroom but if I try to print from Photoshop CS4 I still get message "printer not responding".
Seems to be a photoshop problem rather than a printer problem, any ideas??

  • File exported as ePub from inDesign not opening in Stanza, known bug?

    Hello,
I've just started to learn how to export documents to EPUB format using inDesign CS5 7.0.3 on Mac OSX. I've found that the exported books can be opened in Adobe Digital Editions, but not on Stanza.
The error I am getting in Stanza is:
    Could not load book
Could not find required entry in archive: OEBPS/\Q7%20laws.xthml\E Available entries are: [META-INF/container.xml ...
After a lot of trial and error I came to find out that apparently, the error was generated by the original .indd file name: When the inDesign original filename is "7 laws.indd" Stanza will not open the file.
However, if I remove the spaces from the filename (changing to "7laws.indd") it opens with no problem.
If this case turns to be true for all user of the latest version of inDesign, I believe that the EPUB exporter should:
    a) Convert the spaces in the filename to dashes (or something akin)
    b) At least warn that the file name with spaces can cause trouble on some readers.
I wonder if the inDesign dev team, is aware of this and/or if this issue also affects Windows users.
If so, could it be fixed on an upcoming patch?

  • CS4 Bridge not responding

I'm having issues when trying to open a photo in CS4 64-bit via Bridge.  I'm running the latest version (11.0.2) on win 7 64-bit.  My system has been running just fine for about 6 months up until about 3 weeks ago.  Using Bridge I try open a pic to do some editing and Bridge just stops responding.  If I use windows explorer to open a photo then I also have noticed that whenever I close PS that the photoshop.exe service is still running in task manager and another PS session won't open until I click end process on the existing instance.  I don't know if the two isues are related but I thought I'd mention it just in case

Well if overheating is an issue it is certainly not caused by dust inside my pc.  I have an Antec 300 case with an intake filter that I clean about every 2-3 weeks.  Plus when I installed the TV tuner card about 3 weeks ago I blew out what little dust was inside the case.  But I'll check it again just to be sure.  I'll try reloading the GPU drivers again but I doubt it'll help since I've essentially already done that.  I am a little concerned that MB is crapping out but more concerned that the onboard GPU is going bad.  Other than a little flickering my only problems are with photoshop so far.  I know that the flickering is not my monitor because I hooked it up to my lapton and I saw no flickering.  I also tried switching from DVI to VGA to see if the connector made a difference and it did not.  I haven't tried the HDMI yet.  I've been trying to figure this out for the past few weeks with no success yet.
I'm thinking that I've got a bad GPU or driver and/or a software problem.  Considering getting a PCI-X video card to see if that makes any difference.

  • Indesign not responding every time I place an image.

Hey all, I am working with Indesign CS4  trying to complete my graphic design portfolio.
Anyway, just recently (I'm working on Mac) whenever I go to place an image - no matter what format ie: illus/psd/pdf/eps etc
as soon as I try to place it, I get the wheel of death and have to force Indesign to quit.
My macbook has 4gb of ram so I don't suppose that this is the case?
I've been hounding Google trying to find people with similar problems but the only two significant pieces of
information I have come across are-
    * Deleting Indesign preferences through my library (which I did and nothing happened).
    * Opening up the application by holding down Apple, shift, option and click (which again did nothing)
If anyone has a solution, or any advice that would be fantastic.
    Cheers

When you held down the keys, did you see a confirmation dialog asking if you wanted to replace the prefs? If not, it didn't happen, and when you tried to do it manually there's a good chance you only removed half of the set. For manual repalcement you need to remove InDesign Defaults and InDesign SavedData. For the keyboard, you ned to be REALLY FAST on those keys...
That said, if prefs repalcement is successful and doesn't work, can you place images in another document? How about if you use a new user account?
Are the images stored on a server or on your computer?

  • CS4 Programs Not Responding

I have had Adobe Creative Suite installed on my Mac for 2 years now without issue. As of today, I cannot access any of my Adobe products. When trying, the program will open and take me to the last item I was working on. However, it immediately stops responding. I tried rebooting the computer and when logged back in, I can open 1 Adobe program. However, as soon as I try opening another, they both lock up and the problem persists.
I have tried deleting my user's .dat file as suggested in some of the other forums but this did not repair anything. I ran the Adobe installer to ensure everything was up to date - this did not repair the issue either. I can't seem to find anyone with quite the same problem - hopefully someone out there finds this issue familiar!

  • InDesign 2014cc not responding

I just purchased and installed InDesign 2014cc. So far I've used Photoshop with no problems however I am experiencing a real problem with InDesign
It all began trying to open a document I built in InDesign CS6. When I double clicked the document it automatically began launching 2014CC, not CS6. The document and pallets appear on screen but then a window pops up titled "What's New". At that point nothing more happens. It stops responding. It seems from the activity on my modem that the blank window is trying to load Adobe information online but nothing shows up in the window.
I tried calling up the computer's "force quit" window and nothing happens. The keyboard is seized up. I can move the cursor on screen but it won't allow a click on anything.
I have to force a shutdown on the computer in order to get out of InDesign. When I reboot, since InDesign was running on shutdown it automatically boots too. However, at that point I can force quit it and in the "force quit" window is states "InDesign not responding".
I'm not using any 3rd party plug-ins but the problem seems to be with the "what's new" window as the document shows up perfectly behind the window.
I'm using a Mac Pro 2 x 2.66 dual core processor (1st gen Mac Pro), OS 10.7.5 with 8GB. According to Adobe this shud run InDesign.
I know this isn't the Illustrator Forum but when I launch Illustrator 2014 CC it launches fine but the informational window which won't come up in InDesign populates with text that is twisted at a 45-degree angle! It cannot be read. Wish I knew how to disable that window.
    Anybody have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Tony

I have had the same problems as every one for a while now with all my Adobe products.  I thought is was my computer and almost bought a new one to fix the problem.  About the only thing that works is rebooting.  I have found that my mac email program and google seem to make the  problem worse.  I read my email and do my searches then close and reboot.  I have begun to leave my force quit window open.  I have seen that at times, programs I was not even using would (fail to respond).  It got to wondering if the computer was trying to reboot a program I was not using which caused it to slow down the program I WAS using.  I also wondered about the font activation (I use suitcase) and was about to upgrade hoping to fix the problem,  but I saw a post about the same problem with a different font controller so that cant be it.  For now I force quit what I am not using and at times either refresh the finder or go a full shutdown.  I have also tried unplugging my computer from the outside world.   I wondered if some outside source is peeking at my keystrocks phishing to send me adds I dont want. Guess as bad as it sounds I am not the only person having the same problem.  Hope we find an answer soon- this sucks

  • PS CS4 Not Responding

I have had no trouble with PS CS4 until just today.  When I launch CS4, it looks fine.  Then when I click anything, I get the black bar of death on top that says "PS CS4 Extended Not Responding".
Then if I try to click anything the screen goes white and it says it stopped working.
I have the most current version
I changed my options to administrator (although it was fine before the way it was)
i reuploaded my driver for my wacom
    i debugged
really the only thing between yesterday and today i did different was update my itunes...which i woulnd't think would have anything to do with PS.
I didn't reinstall yet becuase i am in transit to a new house and my disk is in storage.

  • CS4 not responding...

    Hi!
My adobe premiere pro cs4 is not responding after a whilewhen im working with a prosjekt.. what can that be?
My computer is brand new. I have a WD velociraptor 150 GB + WD 1 TB hard drives.Intel® Core™ i7 Processor, SAPPHIRE HD 3650 512MB DDR2 PCI-E. I think my computer is good enough to use the program..
The only thing I can think of is that Im using windows 7 a test verson, can that be a problem? It should be compatible with the OS? I`ve tried it in vista too and got the same problem som I think its a bit strange...
The not responding problem happens all the time, but not when Im opening or importing files. It happens mostly when Im using the files in the timeline, for instanse when Im moving a clip from one place to another. It also happens when Im finished rendering my work area. Im using avi format DV Pal and I have capured most of my videoes on windows movie maker . It usually dont happen before I have moved a coupple for clips or saved it to or three times. And then I have to restart the program again.
Another example is when I mute the sound in the timeline, then the program suddenly not responding again.. The strange about this is that it doesnt happen every time, or it happens every time but not when im doing the same thing.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem?
Down in the right corner it says generating peak file for.... can it be something to do with this or is it just my computer that is not good enough?
    Anyone?

    Hi!
Okay! I tried two converter, one says cant convert because its not avi 1 file, the other one converted it and I tried it in CS4. The clip was in about one minute long or something. I put it in the timeline and I got this red line (dont know whats it called, but know it has to be rendered). So I clicked on the rendered butten and it starts to render: Time left : probably one hour or something.. so I cancelled the whole thing..
Okay I thought if this is the problem, then I just can capture my tape again in the right way with CS4. So I tried that to. Ive attached a file where you can see the message I got.
Does anyone else has this problem too?
But I think it is strange that this can be the problem.. I have tried former versons of premiere and it has worked the with the moviemaker capture. And CS4 seems to work perfectley because I can put the clip in the timeline, press space and see the whole clip or all clips on the monitor, I can put on some effects and do a couple of things untill it suddenly just dont respond...
If the CS4 didnt work with my type of avi file, would it work so perfecly a while and out of nothing just not?
hope someone can help me, really want to get this to work!!

  • Export 1 file not responding

    Lightroom 3.2  Windows 7 64 bit 4 core 8gRam
This 'not responding' is becoming habitual recently.
Initially, I thought it was me clicking into the dialog box too quickly for the purpose of entering a custom text to the file name. Now I keep the cursor down in the task bar and watch the export box flicker the signal 'not responding' on and off.
An image will leave normally as an EDIT IN from the Develop section but the Export in the Library mode has developed a problem.
The program has been quite steady since the update to 3.2  but the export dialog has become progressively worse. It is an export to another internal hard drive but the successive images are going to the same folder on that drive.
    The database is optomized weekly.
Is there a maintenance routine to assist this 'ill export box' ?

Sorry I must have misinterpreted the e-mail addon note. I thought I was replying to this whole group
    I responded with
    1. Yes, there would be several files in the temp directory The Mogrify plug-in creates a running list. If I am exporting a tif that will become a jpg then there is contents in the recycle bin as that tif is deleted.
I can close Lightroom, restart and the first image exports without pause. The second image starts the 'jitter'' or flashing of the export box between 'not responding to responding'  If I am quick enough  when its in the ON position I can close the export box.
#2. There are very few files in the subfolder. Unless this feature of many files applies to a main folder with several subfolders, otherwise contents range from 0 to 20 at maximum in this subfolder structure.
    This is an NTFS system
I tried this morning with a tif and only export sharpening applied + open in an external software. It flickered slightly but proceeded. Of course, I went on to try a 2nd and 3rd while 4 other applications were sitting in the Windows 7 taskbar and with a slight pause where the info box flashes and produces a black box. The export box appeared and didn't falter, wouldn't you know? Maybe its a late night thing <LOL!>
    #3 currently responding
I have emptied the temp file and the recycle bin through this day and could do that while Lightroom was open using CCleaner.
There hasn't been the long delay so it might just be the temp file collection produced by the Mogrify plug-in.
There is a slight flickering but there isn't a LONG time before I'm able to type the custom text entry.
Thanks for  your input. If it is a simple thing like minding the temp files I can insert that into the routine.

  • My copy of Adobe InDesign cs4 will not open a regular idml file.

I opened my document, and all it said was "cannot open the file "Tightsketch_charrette2.idml". Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application" I tried opening other idmls that I knew were not corrupted and I recieved the same message. I checked the plugins, they are all enabled.  I quit all other programs, no luck.  I restarted the macbook, no luck again.  Could I recieve some help?  My Indesign cs4 is fully updated and Im having all these problems.

I have good news, and bad news.
The good news is that the file opens correctly here in both CS5.5 and CS4. The bad news is that means there's a problem with your CS4.
I would start out by trashing your preferences. It's fast, easy to do, and not overly destructive, and if you are lucky it will even solve the problem, but I wouldn't put the odds of success at more than 50/50. See Replace Your Preferences
Do you have a Time Machine backup? If you do, the next thing I would try is restoring the InDesign application folder from a time before the problem started.
If all else fails, it's probably time to bite the bullet and break out the installer. First try running a "repair" install on top of what's there. If that, too, fails, then I would uninstall CS4, run the CS5 clean tool (which can also clean up CS4 -- see Resolve installation problems with CS5 Cleaner Tool), then restart the computer and reinstall. If you have any customized stuff you should make copies of things like shorcut sets and workspaces that you can put back as explained in the thread on resetting the prefs.
