Export Layers to Files includes an additional layer in each file

I'm using the CS4 Export Layers to Files (to PNG with transparency), and with this particular PSD, there's one layer that gets exported on its own, and then it's included in each of the other layers when they're exported.  If I run it a second time but exclude that layer from the selection, then the next layer up is the one that's exported on its own and then included with all of the other exports.  It seems to be failing to make that layer invisible again after it's been exported.
I've managed to run this over 4 PSD files and they all worked perfectly.  I've tried another since this problem started happening, and it, too, does the same thing.
Any ideas?  The script hasn't been modded.

I have modified the original script to include some functionality in another I found online, and the problem has gone away.  I guess it was in a part of the code that was made optional.  So, while I still don't know what caused the problem, the mods have made it stop happening.

    No. This is NOT true. I've been battling with this for a couple hours.
    I choose Export>Versions
    choose
    Subfolder Format: Project Name
    no custom subfolder
    Name Format: Current Version Name.
    Aperture creates project folders for each image and names them Projects1, Projects2, Projects3 etc.
    To be sure, I have no project named Projects
    x
    This particular Aperture library has 16 projects. you can see in the screen grab it's created more than 30 folders
    If I uncheck the Subfolder, that is say NONE, I just get images and images and images, not in their project folders (of course, because I've said NONE, so why would it put them in project folders?)
    I just want to export the entire library and have the versions placed in folders named by the projects from which they came.... ez enough, no?

  • How to Download a batch of files without having to click on each file

    I installed download helper and when i watch a video there are alot of files playing how do i download all of them without having to click on every file in the helper drop down box

    anthony siciliano had this to say:
    I use Smugmug for my photo website. To upload photos to that site, I must convert my PSD files to JPGs and limit the file size of each photo to 12 MB.
    Almost all photo sites impose a size limit on each photo. Sometimes the
    size amount varies. 12M is a lot ...
    Since I am now shooting with a 21 megapixel camera, most of the photo files are over 12 MB when converted to JPGs (many are in the 20 MB range).
    Usually, the size is dependent on the dimensions you choose, and the
    resolution. If you limit your photos to approx 1024x768 with a
    resolution of 72 dpi (which is pretty standard for screen-only
    resolution), you'll find that your photo file sizes will be much
    reduced. Are you sure you need the resolution or size that you are
    using? If you're not selling prints (perhaps you are), then using a
    smaller, screen resolution only version will help.
    Is there a way to convert a batch of photos from PSD files to JPGs and limit the file size of each photo to 12 MB?  Thanks!!

    The LR2Mogrify plugin can do that, I believe.

  • Layer Comp to Files in CC 2014 is SLLLLOOOOOWWWWW

    I updated to CC 2014 from CC when it first was announced but today was the first time I have had to export out my site design via the Layer Comps to File Script that I have loved to use for years. It has saved me so much time when I am working on sites with 20-40 pages. That being said I was startled by the slow speed I noticed instantly with CC 2014.
    So I figured I'd do a little test:
    My Machine:
    15" Macbook Pro running Mac OS 10.8.5
    2.6GHZ intel Core i7
    16GB 1600mhz DD3
    256GB SSD
    Using the same 287MB PSD with 24 Layer comps - here are the times to save out each layer comp as a JPG at 8 quality using the script.
    CC: 31 Seconds
    CC 2014: 3 minutes and 7 Seconds
    All my performance settings are identical between the two so I have no idea how it can be a 2.5min difference. I almost feel like I should just default back to CC at this point.
    Has any one experience this same thing, or have any clue why CC 2014 it is going so slow compared to CC?
    EDIT:
    After chatting with a fellow designer, we came to the hunch that it might be do to the new Smart Object Layer comps feature in 2014. Even though I am not using the functionality in my PSD, I would guess PS needs to make that YES/NO check on each and every smart object through out my PSD. I would guess I have 20 or so smart objects. Which I would assume would slow down the process a bit, and when you have 24 times instances of making multiple checks it could add up quickly...
    Thanks!

    Mine don't even work.

  • Layer Comps to Files as Part of Action

    Hello,
    I use Layer Comps to create many different color combinations in my PSD files, and then use Layer Comps to Files to export them as individual PNG. This works just as I want, but I would like to run this as a batch on multiple files. When I use the script as part of an action, I get the message "Reference Error: dlgMain is undefined". This works perfectly fine with no error when exporting to JPG, but I need PNG to work so is there a way to alter the script to fix this?
    Thanks,
    Justin

    If I was right and you tried recording using the script in an action. If that step does not contain recorded dialog setting you can see in the action step when you expand the action step.  The script is not coded as a Plugin the script does not have action support coded in.  To fix it you would need to add plug-in code required for action support.
    Script that are Plug-in are usually listed in menu File>Automate>Name these can be recorded in actions they have code in them to record the setting used in their Dialog into the action step your  recording. When the recorded action is played the scripts dialog will only be displayed and interactive if you turn on the steps dialog in the action.   The Dialog setting are always retrieved from the Action step being played and set into place.  If you did not turn on the action step dialog the dialog will not be displayed.  If you turned on the dialog in the step the dialog will be displayed with the recorded setting in place.  The step interactive requiring user intervention.
    Some of Adobe Plug-ins are implemented with Photoshop scripting in JavaScript.  Contact Sheet II. Conditional Mode Change, Fit Image, Lens Correction, Merge to HDR Pro, Photomerge.   You can also add your own.  Scripts came be executed from any folder however to be listed in Photoshop menus they need to be in Photoshop  Install Tree or Linked into If and contain some special indemnification code.

    Unexpected problem; We rrecently upgraded to version 3. Export of multiple tracks in a multitrack session makes each file length same as longest file. Didn't do that in Vers 2 of soundtrack

    Hmm... Ok, so I took that project and tried importing it to a new project, still with no luck. Then I tried taking that project and creating a new timeline by dragging one of the stills to the new item icon so that I'd get whatever PrPro decided was the best timeline, and still no luck. Then I tried creating a new project and importing different footage and it worked. Tells me perhaps there's something wrong with the stills? I know not to use overly-large stills in a project, but they're all around 4k resolution or smaller... so surely that's not too big, right? 412 stills total 1.5GB which means an average of about 2.5 MB per file... certainly not too big. I even had a couple video clips in the timeline that were shot with a point-and-shoot still camera, and I tried taking those out just in case it was something in those, and still no success.
    So, ultimately this project got exported without CUDA, and I'm okay... but I also am wondering what caused the problem? I do a fair amount with stills (not a lot, but enough) and I need it to work... do I just go on with life, assuming that it was some weird fluke? Or do I try a complete wipe and reinstall of OS and Programs?
    Oh, one other tidbit... whenever PrPro crashed and closed, the application itself wouldn't close. I have to go into the program manager and force quit it...
    Thoughts? Recommendations?

  • XML files are being read as PBEM game file format!!

    Hello,
    I am trying to edit some .xml files in Script Editor but everytime I try to open them I am told :
    'Script Editor cannot open files in the "PBEM game file" format'
    (Double clicking the .xml file opens up the Big Bang game)
    Does anyone know how to get round this? also is Script Editor the best application to use? I want to use an editor that has colours.
    Many thanks, rob

    Script Editor has one purpose - editing and compiling AppleScript.
    I can't account for the wording of the error message, but for sure I wouldn't expect it to handle XML files directly.
    You could use AppleScript to manipulate the XML data, but that's probably not ideal either.
    What you need is a text editor. BBEdit would be my first choice, or its cheaper (read: free) sibling TextWrangler.
    Both can handle any type of text file, including syntax highlighting for many structured files including programming source code.

  • Scripts / Export Layers to Files / Include Background Layer

    Running the script Export Layers to files.
    Need to keep one layer on that is applied to all the layers (I have a stroke on the top layer I would like applied to all the images that are saved out.)
    How do I modify the script for this?
    Thanks!
    Ken

    Adapting that Script might be somewhat difficult as it is pretty bulky.
    But if its always the topmost layer thats supposed to stay visible and You know which format You want to save the resulting files to beforehand something much smaller may suffice.
    You might try this, but I havent tested it extensively:
    #target photoshop;
    var myDocument = app.activeDocument;
    // get the name and location;
    var docName = myDocument.name;
    var basename = docName.match(/(.*)\.[^\.]+$/)[1];
    var docPath = myDocument.path;
    // get the artlayers and remove the topmost;
    var allArtLayers = collectLayers(myDocument);
    var theTopmost = allArtLayers.pop();
    // hide all but the topmost layer;
    for (var n = 0; n < allArtLayers.length; n++ ) {
       allArtLayers[n].visible = false
    for (var m = 0; m < allArtLayers.length; m++ ) {
    // show the layer;
       allArtLayers[m].visible = true;
    // tiff options;
       tifOpts = new TiffSaveOptions();
       tifOpts.embedColorProfile = true;
       tifOpts.imageCompression = TIFFEncoding.TIFFLZW;
       tifOpts.alphaChannels = false;
       tifOpts.byteOrder = ByteOrder.MACOS ;
       tifOpts.layers = true;
    // duplicate the image;
       var thecopy = myDocument.duplicate (thecopy, true);
    // save copy;
       thecopy.saveAs((new File(docPath+"/"+basename+" "+allArtLayers[m].name+".tif")),tifOpts,true);
       thecopy.close(SaveOptions.DONOTSAVECHANGES);
    // hide the layer again;
       allArtLayers[m].visible = false
    //thats it; thanks to xbytor;
    ////// collect all artlayers //////
    function collectLayers (theParent) {
       if (!allArtLayers) {
          var allArtLayers = new Array}
       else {};
       for (var m = theParent.layers.length - 1; m >= 0;m--) {
          var theLayer = theParent.layers[m];
    // apply the funtion to layersets;
          if (theLayer.constructor == ArtLayer) {
             allArtLayers = allArtLayers.concat(theLayer)

  • Is there a way (script option, exporter option) to export a .psd/.psb file with nested layersets to another layered .psd file with a flat layer structure for greater compatibility? (i.e. CS6/CC/CC '14 to CS4 or older?)

    Just looking for a solution short of having to go in and manually delve through hundreds of layers and reorganize the .psd.  There's a lot of vector elements, layer effects and blending modes as well.  It'd be nice to see Adobe include an exporter for older Photoshop versions that can take a newer file and regenerate it making whatever necessary changes to maintain compatibility across older Photoshop versions and even for cross-compatibility.  I know that's not necessarily in their best interests for additional sales, but it is in the end-user's best interests when they collaborate with others across various file and application formats.

    The first problem here is Layer Styles, if I understand what you are trying to do correctly. You can have arbitrarily nested Layer Sets/Groups (each with its own Layer Style) that contain Layers with their own Layer Styles. This means that for a nested layer, you would have to take it's Layer Style and merge it with the containing Group(s) layer styles in the correct order. Then you have to do the same thing with Layer/Vector Masks and whatever else is involved. It's a non-trivial piece of work. It's not intractable, however.
    There is also the problem that some parts of the Layer Styles are binary blobs that make merging at the JS level impossible.
    If someone has implemented this, I would love to see the implementation.
    What you actually need may be a lot less complicated than the general case. If so, you may be able to find someone to help you out.
    I wish you luck.

  • Exporting Layers to PNG files using each layer name to create the file name??

    Hi All
    I'm trying to sort the following problem and was hoping somebody here could help with a scripting solution - my knowledge extends as far as actions unfortunately - which I don't think is appropriate for this.
    I've created a User interface in Illustrator with many layers and have exported this as a psd with layers.
    Basically what i'm wanting to do is export every layer as a png file while using the layer name to create the file name - each layer needs to be clipped.
    There is no transparency in the png.
    I've run the export to files script - but the names are too long and there is no anti aliasing.
    I've tried running a script from Illustrator - but it doesn't see sub layers - and doesn't name the layers.
    any help would be appreciated.
    thanking you in advance
    regards
    nate

    Hi,
    We just released this tool: FERRY (http://ferry.thedamarmada.com). It does exactly what you want and a little bit more.
    I think it's worth it a try.
    It comes with a free demo that will export 5 layers.
    Take a look and let us know if it's what you need.
    It could be easily tweaked.

  • Weird numbers when Exporting Layers to Files / Layer Comps to Files

    Hi there,
    File > Scripts > Export Layers to Files ...
    File > Scripts >  Layer Comps to Files ...
    File > Scripts >  Layer Comps to PDF ...
    File > Scripts >  Layer Comps to WPG ...
    After I use each of these Scripts , even if I specify "File Name Prefix:", in the name of the exported files I see strange nomeration. This is pretty confusing , because each time I have to rename the files to remove these numbers.
    Adobe please remove the numbers prefix that these Scipts adds..
    Thanks!
