Export Project to IDVD

Can I export more than one project from IMovie to a single DVD? Also, can a chapter be identified on the DVD other than just a skip to the next chapter as a yellow diamond in iMovie?

How do you export projects to iDVD from the latest iMovie version?  (It used to be a simple click on share!!)

You need to "Share to file" and pick the 480 or 540 size.
    Use this file with iDVD.

Can be a problem that get multiplied and visible when iDVD encode for DVD.
    A. See if problem can be isolated to a single frame in the movie and re-import this clip and see if it's better

You will have to purchase the newest iLife in the boxed set to get the latest version of iDVD. Or you can try using some other DVD burning software such as Roxio's Toast. Look for it and others at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads

  • Missing Scenes of Project in iDVD after exported from iMovie

So I finished a project in iMovie, the project is around 1.5 hours. I've made it into 20 different scenes (chapter mark), but when I export it to iDVD there are 2 scenes missing. I already change the encoding settings to Professional Quality but it makes no difference the scenes are still missing.
    Anybody know what to do?

Yes, it is very clear and very confusing.  I don't think chapter markers are the problem.
Is the video all from the same source?  In other words, if the video in chapters 3 and 4 are in an odd .avi format, for example, perhaps iDVD is having trouble handling it and the video needs to be converted to another format.
You may also wish to try some of the basic strategies suggested in this forum -- make sure your versions of iDVD and QuickTime are up to date, make sure there's enough hard disk space on your main HD (15+ G on boot drive), delete your preference file for iDVD (plist file) since it can become corrupted, empty your iDVD cache...

  • How to re-export to same idvd project

I exported my project to idvd, set up all the menus, moved things around, put pictures in drop zones, and got everything exactly right. Then I realized that I had forgotten to do one important thing in imovie. Is there a way to re-export the same project to the same project in idvd and not have to redo everything in dvd? All help appreciated.
    -Sam

Having deleted items myself and then deciding that I wanted to work with them again, I have done the restore function from the trash bin. But...don't forget that there is more to an edited event/clip than meets the eye. If you don't restore every single item that was a part of the original file[s] iMovie won't recognize it. You will have to start from scratch. I've personally never had a problem restoring file[s].
Instead of sending to the trash, set up a folder on your Mac desktop for discarded/unwanted video in case you change your mind, make a mistake, etc. An external HD will cost you next to nothing these days if you're worried about space. And I always recommend that you (and anyone else out there) burn your movies to a re-writeable DVD first before you use a DVD-R or +R which becomes trash if you notice that something you did does not work right.

  • Project Duration error message when loading short iDVD 5 project in iDVD 6

My iDVD 5 project is very short - a total of about 7 minutes (including video and an audio loop for the menu). The video clips were exported as DV NTSC non-self-contained quicktimes from Final Cut Pro.
When I attempt to load the project into iDVD 6, I get the following error message:
    Project duration
Your project exceeds the maximum content duration. To burn this project, remove some content.
Twirling down the triangle for more info gives:
    Project:
    - total project duration: -2147483648:-2147483648 minutes
    - total project capacity: 429496729 GB (max. available: 4.172 GB)
Also, trying to open the Project Info window crashes iDVD.
I haven't attempted burning, but I'm pretty sure it'd be a waste of a DVD.
My only thought is that iDVD 6 somehow is misreading the non-self-contained quicktimes, but I've never had an issue with them before, and it'd be a drag to redo all my projects with space-hogging self-contained versions.

Many people had trouble opening iDVD 5 projects in iDVD 6 when it first came out. My one iDVD 5 wouldn't open at all.

    Check out this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1421870
It may mean you either your Event or your Project. Have you moved any of the files in the Finder by any chance? That error may come up if you moved anything outside of iMovie. Do you get an error message when you choose Share>Export to iMovie (choose medium size) and save it to the Desktop? If you can export it to the desktop, you can pull that file into iDVD separately and still make it work.

  • Low quality of burned DVD even if I drag&drop iMovie project into iDVD

    Hi all,
I've a iMovie HD project that I want to burn via iDVD (7.0.4).
If I click "Share with iDVD" the quality of the resultung video (which is burned to DVD) is rather poor. As I've read within this discussions, the preferred way is to close iMovie and "drag and drop" the iMovie project into iDVD.
With this way, iDVD (instead of iMovie) will render the movie, which should give a video with far more quality.
Unfortunately, the burned DVD with the "drag and drop" method has the same low quality as the video with "Share with iDVD".
I've done a little research and noticed that the "shared movie" for iDVD (iMovie project->Show package Contents->Shared Movies->iDVD) for a 1:10 video has a filesize of only 32kb!
Is there any way to set the "export" parameters for this "shared movie" (it is a quicktime file)?
The quality of the completed DVD is acceptable if I export the iMovie project to "DV stream" an import this stream into iDVD. But in this case I lose all my chapter markers of the movie ..
Is there any way to export the movie from iMovie HD and keep all the chapter markers for iDVD?
Importing the iMovie HD project into iMovie 08/09 is not an option, as I lose the chapter markers also ..
    Thanks in advice,
    Kind regards.

    Hi,
the iMovie project was created as "DV" project and I imported DV PAL clips. The iDVD preferences are also PAL (25fps) and the quality setting is "professional quality".
I've also tried the setting "best performance" within iDVD (as suggested within this forum), but with the same poor result.
I can see within the iDVD "project info" that iDVD will use "mymovie.mov" within the "Shared Movies->iDVD" of the iMovie project (Show package contents).
As this converted movie is of low quality, I think this is the root of evil.
If I export the movie from iMovie with "Export as DV stream" and import this converted movie into iDVD the quality is ok - but I lose the chapter markers ..
Is there any way to keep the chapter markers?
    Kind regards.

  • Trying to share a completed iMovie project with iDVD. iMovie keeps quitting. Why?

I've been trying to share a completed iMovie project with iDVD. iMovie keeps quitting unexpectedly. Why does it keep crashing?

Click on the button near the top of the window where it says Project Library (it toggles between Library and edit Project).
Click just once on the name of the project, so that it highlights in blue.
Go to File Menu > Duplicate Project. There will now be a second project with the same name, but with a number added to the end of the name
Open that duplicated project by double-clicking it
Lastly, Check out this Discussion Thread from September
I movie quits unexpectedly during editing and publishing
from Jasonryan1. It relates to a corrupted item existing in his project. And in his attempt to troubleshoot it, he suspected it was a Title he placed in the Project itself. Once he deleted the corrupted Title he was able to successfully export it. As to which item is causing instability, that's a tricky process to narrow down. And I would agree it seems unlikely all your projects could have some corrupted element in them. But it might work to concentrate on the simplest project which is showing the symptoms you describe. Duplicate that project and start deleting pieces of it and trying to add a Title to it and see if iMovie crashes. And that's not to say it's a title, it could just as easily be a picture, a transtion or a music clip that's preventing that project from being exported.

  • Export project to DVD? (Spanning)

Hi all - I'm actually (believe it or not) starting to feel more comfortable about the idea of archiving Aperture projects now that I know iview can read them. The big question though - is it possible to export projects to span across several DVDs? I can't for the life of me find a way to do this - I thought maybe I could export smart albums, but no-go. Any ideas?
The best I can come up with so far is to convert the project to a folder and then have Impression (or whatever) span that project across dvds, but I'm a bit nervous that it might be tough to reimport the project if I did that.

IDVD has the loop feature under the advanced tab. You can also make the DVD play on insert on the map view menu if you need that.
IDVD is about as easy as you can get.

  • Is there a way to go move a project from IDVD back to IMOVIE?

This is clearly a newbie question:
I know how to share from Imovie to IDVD and I made my IDVD project, but now I don't know if I still have the IMovie I originally transferred.
Is there a way to move a project from IDVD back to IMOVIE?

First, go back to iMovie and look under both iMovie Events and Projects to see if you still have the movie. Double check by looking in Finder to where you save the movies you create. For instance, if you save to Movies, there should be folders in there for iMovie Events and iMovie Projects. If they are there, you should see them in the lists in iMovie.
If not, I don't think there is a way you can move it directly back to iMovie. Is there a real need to have it in iMovie? Unless you are going to change the movie, there is not a need to keep it there. If, for some reason you want it there, however, you can go thru the process of copying the DVD back to the hard drive using MPEG Streamclip, and exporting it to Quicktime. Then open iMovie, and bring it back into iMovie.

  • Several iMovie Projects in iDVD

Hi. Can I import a few iMovie projects into iDVD to create an iDVD project? Thanks.

thanks. you mean one iDVD project can actually be
made of more than one iMovie projects? i didn't know
    that....
Yup. You can only export one movie from iMovie into iDVD but you can drag and drop into iDVD as many as you have room for.

  • Can I save a project from idvd as a .mov?or anything other than an idvdproj

Can I save a project from idvd as a .mov?or anything other than an idvdproject?

It's possible, but a fair amount of work to start from iDVD. Far easier is to export your project from iMovie (Share/Export) to the format desired by the web site (mp4, Flash, ??).
In either case, it will not be an interactive experience (in other words, you can have a video showing your video being selected, but the web user won't be clicking the menu button).
If you want a short intro (pictures and song), why not add that to the beginning of your iMovie project, so it all looks seamless?

  • Imovie project to idvd

I'm trying to export an imovie project to idvd. The project is a slideshow of photos from iphoto with an itunes soundtrack. When I click "create idvd project", it advises that its needs to "render & proceed" , but nothing happens. I've also tried using "Share" and clicking idvd in the imovie menu, but that does not work either. I'm using imovie 4 and idvd 4. Has anyone else encountered this?
    Thanks,
    Peter

    Hi Peter
This is an often reported problem.
No I don't have a direct solution but
instead of using iPhoto to make Your Slide Show You could do as I do.
I start a new iMovie project
open pictures/photos in iMovie and drop the photos into Time-Line
    edit:
    - duration for each photo +
    - adding sound and narration.
    - transitions
    - color correction
    - etc
    now
    a) Close iMovie and save.
    b) find the project icon/folder
    c) Ctrl-click on it and Show package.
    d) in this there are a folder -> Shared Movies -> iDVD
    e) in this there are a QT movie nnnnnnn.mov
    f) drop this into an open theme in iDVD and save it as a desktop image
(if iDVD prior HD/5 You have to add a hack to make this possibly
    named HPfurz and install it)
Test this with Apple DVD-player - OK then burn it with iDVD
or Toast if You have and don’t want to re-code the movie.
