Export/Save/Save As..   to current location

Sometimes when using an application to export, or save a file, the save location defaults to some random location; maybe documents, or a previously saved to folder. Is there a quick way (button) in the export/save window that will set the location to the location the file was opened from, or where it currently exists?

If you use "Save" the item will be saved in the place the original is. It will overwrite the original, of course.
"Save As" on my machines reverts to the last place a "Save As" location was selected.
How would it know where you want to save it to? The best guess is the same place you last saved something. I have hundreds of locations on my computers where I save things. I don't see how the "Save As" function could know where I want it.
A complicated algorithm might be able to determine the location based on the file type and the number of times a similar file has been saved in a particular place but it would not be perfect because sometimes I save a .txt in a picture directory, etc.
Maybe this only occurs when using the Export option. Occasionally when opening an existing file, and using Export, neither the default save location, nor the recent save locations are the source file's location. So you must click through to it's location. A simple button that selects the open file's (source) location would be sufficient.

  • Prompt save / open from current location

    Hi folks!
    I am calling static file from a servlet. how can i prompt the user the standard dialogue box "to save to the disk" or "open it from current location". Now it is just opening the file.
    Any help would be appriciated. Thank you.

    You'll want to set the mime type to application/binary and then do something like:
    res.setHeader("Content-disposition",
    "attachment; filename" +
    "Example.doc" );
    This tells the client that the file is binary, and to save it to disk with the recommended name. Hopefully, the browser won't try to open it automatically, but will instead prompt the user to save the file.

    I have a time sheet form named Timesheet Paperless.pdf I send this form to an employee and tell them to fill their name and employee number in the form. I then ask them to go to File>Save As and name the form INTIALS_TS.pdf . I now would like to a have button with in the form that will open a Save As dialog with the filename INITIALS_TS CurrentDate.pdf under My Documents/Work Files/Time Sheets/. So every new pay period they would click the save button on the form to save the file under the time sheets folder with their intials and the current date the button was pushed. • Using OBIEE Scheduler to export and save data in excel/pdf

    Hi
    Is it possible to use obiee scheduler and run particular reports and export the data into excel/pdf and save this file at given location on server.
    env: obiee 11g/linux OS
    Thanks for any ideas.

    Hi,
    Yes it is possible.
    As per my knowledge we don't have such option but we can do one way.
    Using IBOTS you can store specific report and specific time in specific location.
    Note : Using JS script.
    Are you going to implement this way send me your mails id will send you js script for doing this.
    Re: Auto SAVE to excel -- Please refer this thread.
    Create js file using the below script and add this js scrif in your ibot advanced tab.
    var FSO = new ActiveXObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject");
    var foldername = 'D:\IBOT'
    if (FSO.FolderExists(foldername))
    var fileName = foldername + "\\" +Parameter(1);
    var fooFile = FSO.CopyFile(Parameter(0), fileName, true);
    else
    FSO.CreateFolder(foldername);
    var fileName = foldername + "D:\IBOT" + Parameter(1);
    var fooFile = FSO.CopyFile(Parameter(0), fileName, true);

  • Adobe InDesign cs5 crashes every time try to save, save as or export

    I've got adobe InDesign (cs5 version), and every time I try to save, save as or export a file, the InDesign window closes or crashes. This is very frustrating as I have a project which needs to be completed in the next two days using InDesign. Help!

    Try reseting the preferences.
    or  delete Mark II folder from the location
    Windows 7/Vista: C:\ProgramData\Adobe\SING\Mark II
    Mac OS: [Startup Disk]/Library/Applications Support/Adobe/SING/Mark II
    It will fix this..
    This problem is pretty definitely not SING, so deleting the Mark II folder is not going to help. (It wont't hurt, though!)
    Resetting prefrences is always a good thing to try.
    I suspect it is a corrupt story thread of some sort. Moving pages to a new document, exporting stories to IDML, copying the file and deleting pages until the problem goes away...those are things I would try.

  • Export with save option

    Hi,
    Iam using IR 11 version. I have written script for exporting chart and pivot data.I used command button to export.Whenever i clik on the command button its exporting successfully but i want to save the files in different locations.for example.. if i clik on the command button it should ask for where to save the file.
    script which i have written for export files..in this where i need to keep the save option???
    try{
    ActiveDocument.Sections["C_TTT"].Export("C:\\TTT.jpeg",bqExportFormatJPEG)
    ActiveDocument.Sections["P_TTT"].Export("C:\\TTT.csv",bqExportFormatCSV)
    Alert("exported successfully")
    }catch(e)
    Alert("Failed To Export")
    }

    When you click on a method in the Script Editor it tells you the required and optional parameters in the lower left corner of the editor.
    And if you click Help after clicking on the Method you get the following:

    Applies To:
    ChartSection object, (CubeQuery) QuerySection object, DataModelSection object, Document object, DashboardSection object, OLAPQuerySection object, PivotSection object, QuerySection object, ResultsSection object, Section object, TableSection object, ReportSection object

  • Is there a way to save files in two (2) locations at once?

    Hi everyone.
    I am a devoted mac user, but I am significantly less computer-savvy than most other mac users I know. I recently upgraded my 2.66 GHz quad core mac pro to have three 1TB hard drives. I want to use one of those drives for my FCP cache, and the other two I would like to set up (if it is possible) to save documents, video files, audio files, photos, etc.
    However, I want one of the drives to be a backup of the other. What I am asking is, is there a way to set up my hard drives such that when I save a file to one location, it automatically saves it to the 2nd? I tried for the longest time with external hard drives saving it to 2 places, but that requires a level of diligence I don't have, and I ended up with different files in each drive.
    A sales rep at my local Apple store told me there is a specific type of RAID (Alias RAID? RAID Alias? something like that) which can do exactly what I am looking for. The problem is, I don't know enough about computers to set it up or figure it out, and lugging my Mac Pro tower to the Apple store is a bit of a chore.
    Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!
    ~Bryan

    Hello Bryan,
    I believe you are looking for a RAID 1 set up. When it comes to computers I am no pro either, so hopefully the real pros will chime in. Anyhow, you should be able to do this in disk utility, do a search here in the forums for RAID 1 and go from there.
    Hope that helps!

  • Why does Mountain Lion not save 'Save', 'Save As' and 'Export' window sizes?

    Every time I go to Export or Save a document, the window size resets and I have to constantly re-size it every time. It's quite annoying. Is there a way to change these default windows sizes permanently?

    Just a guess. Maybe it is not required that the FP be opened but just loaded in memory before the save. In 6.1, find a property/method that requires the FP into memory (such as Edit Mode on Open) and use it before saving the VI.

    In the mean time I suggest the following software repair:
    Delete iWork in entirely, use Appcleaner to do this quickly, its free.
    empty the trash
    download iWork again from the App store
    reinstall iwork
    repair permissions:   applications > utilities > disk utility > first aid: click on the system disc then click repair disc permissions
    reboot and report back your findings

    Is it possible to save or export an e-book chapter from Adobe Digital Editions? Is it possible to export or save from Adobe Digital Editions to an Adobe pdf?

    I hope you won't see this as rude, but what you are missing is the obvious point that Adobe are in business to make money. So they put as little in Adobe Reader as they can, so people are motivated to buy stuff. Every development intended for Reader has severe limitations on feasibility and techniques for this reason; it's a huge (but very common) mistake to just develop for Acrobat and assume Reader will follow.

  • QuickTimePro - Export vs Save - Different File sizes

    Hi,
    with the trim to selection command I selected a bigger part of an AVI-video (Video track format: MPEG-4 DivX v.5 + Audio: Mpeg-1 layer 3 (mp3)).
    Although I did not change the video or audio settings I got different file sizes:
    The exported video has double the size than the saved file.
    Therfore my questions:
    What is the reason?
    What should I prefer - export or save - trying to get smaller files with the same quality?
    Thanks for a tip.Greetings from the heart of Germany
    Herbert

    HI mrfibuli
    I think you are seeing a general housecleaning of things that
    were formerly in your library. For example, lets say you took a
    fairly large project. Perhaps 80 slides. Then you delete 60 slides.
    This would leave many items in the library. They would be there,
    but be unused. So you save as, and after a couple of times of doing
    this, the unused objects are purged from the file. This is why you
    are seeing a difference in size.
    Sincerely... Rick

    No, not in the Photos app. You would need to purchase/download a phot editing app for that.

  • EA2 Export DDL - Save to file issues

    Hi,

    Juergen

    Hi Juergen,
    Yes, I see the exact same behaviour on my Windows XP SP2 installation when I perform the following steps:
    (1) Right click on a, for example, procedure in the Navigator
    (2) Select "Export DDL > Save to File..." from the context menu
    (3) The "Choose Directory" dialog is displayed, with "/" in the "File name:" field and the starting directory being the root of my C: drive
    Preferred behaviour would be:
    (1) Default "File name:" field to procedure name
    (2) Default starting directory to last used
    Thanks,
    Chris
