Export to Word Format BUG - Pages won't do it

The latest version of Pages for MAC (5.0.1), can't export a simple text document to WORD format.
It takes forever and, at last, craches my Mac .
Anyone else's expericing it?
Thanks,
Daniel

Thanks Allan!
Doing it now...

i just made a movie in iMovie and exported in MP4 format, now it won't open, error message says quicktime can't open the file ***? Anyone?

I have the same problem. I'm using Mavericks OS and latest iMovie. Both downloaded last week. I save the movie into File (as directed) and  QuickTime
will not open. I'm then directed to a page of formats which are supposed to be supported on which is .mp4. Any tips?

  • Pages export in Word format problem

A Pages-5 file exported as a Word file opens in MS Word as one would expect but crashes or fails to open in Open Office 4 which opens all other .doc/.docx files perfectly.  The new version of Pages must be doing something strange to the Word format as this never happened with earlier versions.
    Any ideas ???

Exported a .docx from IOS Pages v2.0.1 (new format) to OS X Mavericks and Lion.
The above file crashed LibreOffice 4.1.3.2 (latest) on both operating systems. It opened fine in Preview, TextEdit, Quick Look, and Bean (3.2.5) on both operating systems. On Lion, it opened fine in Office for Mac 2011 (4.3.9). Do not have the latter installed on Mavericks.
On Mavericks, opened this .docx in Pages ’09 v4.3 successfully with import warnings about removing all borders, and a large white-space area between text on the first page.
On Mavericks, I opened this .docx in TextEdit. Added two words to it, and updated it in place. I then dragged and dropped it on the LibreOffice icon in the Dock. LibreOffice opened it without issue.
Clearly, the IOS Pages export to Word (.docx) has some compatibility issues with OpenOffice and LibreOffice, as apparently does Pages v5 on OS X.

  • Export to Word format crashes IIS worker process

I'm using CR for VS 2005 in a Web application. While on development machine, everything is acting normal. I export the report to Word format without any problem.
However, after deployment to test environment, CR starts to cause problems. When I try to export the report to any Word format, it crashes the IIS worker process. I tried installing several CR for .net packages, but I can't manage to solve this problem. The export to .pdf and .xls works fine, as well as the other main functionalities.
Can anyone give me a link to the latest package for .net 2.0 (or vs .net 2005), or any hotfix where this bug is resolved. The release versions of the cr for .net 2.0 are quite a mess, and as I'm aware, installing none of them solved my problem.
I'm running Vista x64 on my development machine, and Windows Server 2003 on the test environment.

Here is the stack trace of the error:
[NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.]
       Admin_Modules_ReportGeneratorControl.BtnExport_Click(Object sender, EventArgs e) +212
       System.Web.UI.WebControls.Button.OnClick(EventArgs e) +105
       System.Web.UI.WebControls.Button.RaisePostBackEvent(String eventArgument) +107
       System.Web.UI.WebControls.Button.System.Web.UI.IPostBackEventHandler.RaisePostBackEvent(
    String eventArgument) +7
       System.Web.UI.Page.RaisePostBackEvent(IPostBackEventHandler sourceControl,
    String eventArgument) +11
       System.Web.UI.Page.RaisePostBackEvent(NameValueCollection postData) +33
       System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint,
    Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) +1746
This is the code of the BtnExport_Click event handler:
    Response.Buffer = false;
    Response.ClearContent();
    Response.ClearHeaders();
    ((ReportDocument)Session["REPORT"]).ExportToHttpResponse(
    (ExportFormatType)Enum.ToObject(typeof(ExportFormatType), int.Parse(DdlExportTypes.SelectedValue)),
    Response, true, "Report");
I can guarantee you that the Session object IS NOT NULL and that the value taken from the Ddl is correct.
Also, this error crashes the IIS worker process. Here is the error log on that one:
Faulting application w3wp.exe, version 6.0.3790.3959, faulting module msvcr80.dll,
    version 8.0.50727.3053, fault address 0x00014ba1.
And again, this error only occurs on the test environment server that is running Windows Server 2003 and has installed redist package of Crystal Reports for .NET Framework 2.0.
On the other hand, the Web site acts normally on the development machine, which is running Windows Vista x64. Here, the needed components for CR were installed during the setup of VS 2005 Team System Edition.
I think that this info will give you some more info on this problem.
    Thanks, Dejan

  • What word format understands Pages best?

Hi there! When I want to share documents between Word 2010 and Pages on iPad and Macbook Pro etc., what format is best so all formations are kept and stay the same back and forth? Is that even possible? I know I shall use fonts which both programs have, but maybe there is a best export format for that.
    Best!
    Michael

You have no choice, Pages just saves to the one .doc format and that is it.

  • Pages 5 doc not showing comments when exported to Word

I'm using Pages 5 and I like it, but am having a problem. When I try to export a Pages document with comments into Word format, the file looks good on my Mac using Quick View. I can see the comments. It also looks fine when I open it with Pages, the comments still show. But when I email it to someone using Windows, the document does not show any of the comments, not even the highlighting.
I never had any problem with this using the previous version of Pages, where documents exported to Word format and the comments were visible.
I have resorted to copy/pasting my comments, then saving as a PDF, which works, but is sort of clumsy. Is there a better way to do this with Pages 5?

Thanks for the additional helpful information, Fruhulda. I didn't realize that they had removed important features in the so-called upgrade.
It sounds as if Pages 5 will work for fast and easy tasks, but Pages 09 will be good to have for heavy-duty work. I guess this explains why Pages 5 didn't overwrite Pages 09 on installation. They are really two different apps now.

  • Export to Word--docs can't be opened

When I export in Word format, the documents appear in the folder, but can't be opened in Word. (They can be opened in Pages, and look fine.)
    Any thoughts, anyone?

(I've restarted, and it happens in both apps)
But thanks to your thoughts I just created a new user, and Export works fine with it! So something is corrupted within my normal user. When I get some time I'll try deleting various preference files of Word and Pages, unless you have any better suggestions!

  • Will doc files transferred from Microsoft word work in pages

Will be transferring doc files from Microsoft Word to new iMac, can Pages read them. Do I have to import them one at a time into Pages or when opening a particular doc file, will Pages automatically read it and let me revise document

    marian73 wrote:
Please clarify if you are saying that before i can edit the original document in Pages to begin with,  I have to do some sort of "export" to Word format.
You can open the Word document and edit it, and when you have finished editing the document, you need to export it to Word format. By doing this, you should be OK.

  • Pages won't print or make PDFs

I recently purchased iWork '08 thinking it could replace Office for me. I can't even get it to print or create PDFs. The best I can do is export to Word format and use Word to print and create PDFs. I get two errors out of pages. "Error while printing" and selected pages out of range. Nothing else is having a problem. How do I fix this or at least get some genuine support out of Apple?

I'll bet you have an HP printer. It's a long-standing problem between Apple applications & HP printers, specifically AppleWorks & Pages (any version of either) & HP printers. I'll also guess that you have numbered your pages starting with a number other than 1. Try putting the specific page numbers in the print dialog. For example, if you have a six-page document but the pages are numbered 11 to 16, an HP printer doesn't know what to do. Tell it to print pages 11 to 16 & it likely will work.

  • Export to Word document comment timestamps

Export to Word document from Pages 4.x causes timestamps for all comments to update to time of export. Is there a way to change that behavior?

    Jesse,
    That's a pain, isn't it?
When the comment autofills the timestamp, backspace it out of the comment and replace with your plain text version of the current date and time. That should put a stop the the updates.

  • I cannot send a Pages document, Word format via email from my ipad if it has a picture in the the doc.  I can send a Word doc if it does not have a pic in it or pdf with a pic.  Any thoughs why a word doc with a pic in it won't email in Pages?  thanks

I cannot send a Pages document, Word via email if the doc contains a picture.  If I email a Pages doc without a pic in Word format or pdf with a pic it with go through to sender?  Not sure why Pages won't send Word doc with a picture in it.  I check the security on the email recipient and the email doesn't get blocked or throw in the junk box?
    thanks,
    drainguy41

If you have upgraded to Mountain Lion, Save As… has returned to the File menu when you hold down the Option/alt key. But you don't really "save" as other file types, you translate & export as Word or RTF or text or PDF & that is easily done by going to File > Export or Share > Export.
Also, please do us all a favor & don't use all capitals in your posts, either the body of the post or the title. All caps is the internet equivalent of shouting & is very hard to read.

  • Pages won't export to Word

Running latest Pages in latest Lion on a new iMac. When I try to export to Word, I get an error message: "The file format is invalid."
A Word doc IS actually created, but it has all Comments stripped out...making it utterly useless to me. I've tried uninstalling iWork 09, restarting the iMac, then reinstalling (and re-upgrading) iWork 09 from the original disc, but no love -- it just won't export a Word file with Comments.
Anyone else having this problem? Anyone have a solution?
    Thanks!
    Barry

Well, I tried export to Word before saving the document in Pages. It worked fine! I didn't finalize the changes in any way. I could open the .doc document and it still showed the changes and comment field.
I think something is corrupt in your document. You could select the content and paste into a new blank template and save it and then export to a Word document. Then undo all changes in the original document to the point you started the changes and copy and paste  into a new document and give it a different name. Now you have a before and after the changes and hopefully the  corruption didn't get copied over.

  • I created a document in pages and had it saved and then exported to send to someone to edit in in Word and ow it is in Word format.. i need to revert it back to my Pages format. help??

I created a document in a template on pages.. and i saved it.. then I exported it to a Word document to send to someone to edit for me.. i have never done that before i usually use a PDF..and it changed it and won't go back! HELP!

Again: What version of Pages are you talking about?
Menu > Pages > About Pages
Again: Have you tried to open the Word .docx in Pages?
Pages doesn't save to Word it Exports to Word .doc so there should be a .pages copy on your Mac.

  • Pages 2.0 is exporting Word files in name.docx format causing duplicates files on my PC via iTunes.  Anyway to have it export name.doc files as Pages did earler?

What I read in the PDF version of the manual (while I was waiting for my plane this afternoon), it seems pretty comprehensive. I was particularly interested in what it had to say about creating your own templates.
Supposedly, it will remember if I left invisibles showing in templates (one of my big complaints with Pages 1). I'll find out soon enough. I must say that opening my two documents I use for answering posts here in discussions sure did open faster & navigating an 11-page table was much faster.
Another good thing I noticed, the font used for the serial number is much clearer & there were no confusing characters - O/0, S/5, etc.
