Export uncompressed targa sequence

I work in a television station using Final Cut and LiveType to make graphics. Our clip server imports image sequences, but can only recognize uncompressed targa files. Exporting as a targa sequence from either program applies some sort of compression to the images. Currently we use GraphicConverter or Photoshop to do a batch convert to uncompress, but it would be handier to be able to export directly uncompressed. Is this possible? Alternatively, is there a 3rd party utility that can convert a DV movie to an uncompressed targa sequence. We have Cleaner, but it uses the same compression as Quicktime.
Thanks.

Thanks John. I get codecs and how they work (I've been making film and commercials for broadcast and cinema for over 10 years) what I find confusing is that apple have removed the choice to render / export with no codec at all - 'none'. We shot a film on Sony F3 with S-Log using an Aja Ki Pro to record directly to an external drive as ProRes 422, there's a weird problem with s-log and prores where the white highlights are clipped but the information is still in the file, because we recorded prores the only way to fix this problem is to apply 3way color correction in FCP (because prores is native to fcp) and bring the highlights down to 99IRE. We are adding CG set extension etc to a few shots so VFX dept are looking for 16bit tiff sequences so that there is no colour loss on their clips so everything will composite together properly in Nuke before online and grade. The only way to do this is to apply the colour correction in FCP, render as uncompressed 'none' then bring the uncompressed file into AE and export the tiff sequences. That way there is no loss of colour information or how the a codec will interpret colour. I've had to export with 'none' hundreds to times but with Lion that option has vanished. It's still there on Snow Leopard, which is what I have to use, but it's gone from Lion. Which is weird, no? Maybe Apple want to force us to use one of their codecs

  • Exporting Targa Sequence and Alpha Channel

I have a couple of targa sequence containing graphics that I need to export. One has an opaque arrow which rolls out over the film underneath. The second has solid text which will be laid over the arrow as it animates. I have run the image sequences in Quicktime, the arrow sequence comes out as a block of black and the solid text comes out against a black background instead of an alpha channel and I can't seem to manipulate them. I have FCP 6 which i thought had Quick Time Pro to handle alpha channels. What am I doing wrong, can anyone help?

    hi,
    what exactly are you doing?
why are you exporting from quicktime? why dont you import the image sequence directly into motion/fcp? Not saying you;re wrong, just wondering that 's all.
Have you got the export settings correct. Not many codecs support alpha channels. Your best bet is Animation set to Millions of colours +. the + is the alpha channel.
However motion or fcp should be able to read the image files just fine.

  • Export quicktimes as targa sequence with embedded alpha in HD

I'm receiving some HD Quicktime files tomorrow which I understand have an embedded alpha channel. I need to export them as targa image sequences, which I've never done in FCP before.
Will the alpha remain embedded in the targa sequence?
What TGA option do I choose (eg: million of colors, millions of colors+)?
Will I wind up with "high definition" targas? I understand HD Targas are just giant-sized images, is that right?
Anything else I should be aware of?
    thanks

Open the Files in QuickTime Player. No need to use FCP.
File > Export > Movie To Image Sequence > Options > TGA.
Make sure to create a dedicated folder as the destination...

  • Exporting PNG Image Sequence in Compressor?

    Hi everyone!
Can anyone help? Any Compressor pro's out there?
I can successfully export sequences via Final Cut Pro using Quicktime conversion as .PNG Image Sequences retaining the alpha channel (millions+). However in Compressor the Image Sequence settings seem to ONLY support targa or tiff, IS there a way to export the image sequence using compressor as a alpha channel PNG!
You can export the sequence as a .mov with the png codec.. but I must have it as the image sequence!
    Any ideas anyone?

Sorry, but I have not been able to find an option for exporting image sequences with Alpha channel in Compressor either. I submitted a bug report about this a few months ago.
Why do you need to use Compressor? If it is for deinterlacing or resizing, you could export from FCP using Compressor, and choose to export a QuickTime movie using the Animation codec at 100%. After that, you can export your Animation file to a PNG image sequence using QuickTime Pro.
It is the only workaround I can think of at the moment.
I would recommend submitting a bug report: http://www.apple.com/feedback/compressor.html

  • Targa Sequence files in Photoshop CS5

I have imported 300 Targa sequence files into photoshop layers. I'am trying to set 150 to multiply and combine them with the corrosponding numbered layer with the image I'am trying to multiply.
Currently I have all the layers, however is there any way to automate the merging process to save time, or do I need to manually sequence the layers, select multipy on the layer one at a time, and merge with the corrosponding layer for each one prior to exporting all layers to files? I would hope there is a tool to import two seprate Targa sequences and adjust one to multiply then merg the layers back in sequence... ?? ..

Did you drag it into Photoshop on top of an already open canvas to open it?  Try dragging it to the BORDER of Photoshop instead.

  • Correct way to export uncompressed to get a product aired on TV

    Hello all,
just finished editing a 50 minute doc that will be aired on Greek TV
I edited with most of my footage beeing  DV-pal 16:9 so I edited on a sequence with these kind of settings.
I exported a "current settings" version and took it to an AVID and recorded a BETASP tape with that.
but people tell me that I should export uncompressed for better results
I just did, but instead I get about 20 files all sized about 2 GB, they are name like I named the project but project av1, project av2 etc
the last file has the name of the project is a playable mov file, but it's only 2.6 GB big.
The current setting export was 11.5 GB, the uncompressed TEST I did for one (1) minute of footage to test the size requirements was 1.3 GB, so IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE TO ME to have the 50 min documentary sized 2.6 GB
    1) What am I doing wrong? if anything
    2) whats the best export way to get broadcast quality and view the project just like on my Mac?
    3) the uncompressed export changes my aspect ratio into streched 4:3, but I guess that players can fix that ....right?
Any help would be musch appreciated, people in here saved me on deadlines more than once...thank you in advance

now then I must find out more:
Danny D, I watch anything of his, not listed as transmitted here
this is a much bigger show than I would expect to use the DVX 100, to our thinking this is a very brave and weird choice of camera, certainly not chosen to keep costs down, but I dont know the situation in the USA, you would never get away with this in the UK
So I wonder... If something is shot correctly, would anyone at the EBU ever know?
The compliance sheets must state  complete workflow: cameras, links, recording, editing........
if a broadcaster flouts the regs there are very heavy fines so you just dont play silly.
I also wanted to ask... does cable programming in Europe have different standards?
with cable satelite and digital terrestrial mainstream broadcasters allocated a full bandwidth chanel must  produce programming to full EBU specs
''Community chanels'' low bandwidth chanels, can distribute non broadcast originated material - sound and vision must be to correct levels.
so all the shopping channels must have full EBU spec studios cameras and gallery the sound and picture quality is as good as a studio based drama
I'm learning a great deal here today!

  • Rendering targa sequence with only alpha

Can I render a targa sequence with only alpha channel (RGB transparent, not black)? So that if I open a frame in Photoshop the RGB channels are transparent and only the alpha channel has content.
I'm going to use the alpha channel in another software as a mask (but it has to imported as a image sequence, can't choose only alpha). That means that if there is anything in the RGB channels I'll see it on screen where the alpha is...

I don't quite follow. Alpha cannot exist without RGB pixels, as in technical terms it's not transparency, but the blending amount between foreground (pixels in the image) and background (other pixels that will be placed below). If exporting the Alpha as a b/w matte does not serve your needs, then apply the Alpha to a black solid in a black comp and export that.

  • I need advice (for the best way to exporting uncompressed files)

Using Final Cut Pro to animation(2D) project(30fps), I've experienced a problem exporting uncompressed TGA image sequence files.
    Here's the workflow I use:
    File> Export> QT Conversion> Image Sequence> Options> TGA, uncompressed 8bit, millions of color, 30 fps> OK
After exporting a files, I supposed to get 1MB each(file size), but I got less than 1MB each(file size). It tells us that those are compressed files. The size of files is random. when I use Avid Nitris there is no problem but it is different with the Final Cut Pro.
Do you know what is the best way to exporting uncompressed TGA image sequence files out of FCP? (for Best Quality Output)
    Thank you in advance.
    Jasmine

    Patrick,
I'm sorry it has taken me so long to reply you. I can't post your request, because Avid is not here. So I will post another example, and I have another question. This is the nearset approach to problem. See below images.
I use QuickTime 7.1 and Final Cut Pro 5.1.1 in the PowerMac G5 2.0 Ghz.
    1. File > Export > QT Converstion > Image Sequence > Options > TGA, 30, Best Depth
I supposed to get 1MB each, but I got less than 1MB each. It tells us that those are compressed files, and shows up low quality images. (besides, The size of files is random.)
    2. File > Export > QT Converstion > Image Sequence > Options > TIFF, 30, Best Depth (Compression: None)
Finally, I was a great success See the files size: all 1MB each. I can get the result that I want/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png
OK, now question, I will tell you.
Why have a different result? (TGA vs TIFF)
'TIFF options' have a compression option, but 'TGA options' haven't it. So 'TGA image sequence' can't make uncompressed files. For what reason? Do you know any particular reason?
: TGA Options haven't compression option.
: TIFF Options have a compression option.
What's the 'Little Endian'? I don't know this option: Little Endian.
Could you explain that for me, please? Lay it all out for me, please..
    Thank you for your kindness,
    Jasmine

  • Rendering Interlaced Targa Sequence - Frames Missing

I have an AE CS3 project.
I'm using a transition in my project - Dissolve - ripple.
I've previewed my comp and everything looks just how I want it.
I setup the render queue to export my comp as a Targa Sequence (24-Bit) Interlaced. The render runs fine. However when I previewed my targa sequence in both bridge and in Premiere Pro CS3 - the frames containing the Dissolve - ripple are totally black. All I see is the text layer that was above the layers that had the Dissolve - ripple transition.
As a test, I exported to a DV-AVI Interlaced - previewed it in PPro CS3 and I'm having the same problem with the AVI file.
Does anyone know why that won't render to a Targa Sequence or AVI (for Interlaced Vide)?
    Thanks
    FOO

I can repro this. The source footage has to be interlaced and you have to render to interlaced. I played around a little- it doesn't occur if you reorder the effects. It seems to have something to do with the animated Opacity control on the Solid Composite effect in the preset. I can also make it happen with completely different effects (Bulge and Fractal Noise), as long as the second effect has an Opacity control that is animated.
I filed a bug with Adobe about it.

  • Targa sequence, how to import it only with Final Cut

Anyone knows how to import a targa sequence, without first making it a quicktime movie with QTPP(pro)?
I know the method of the 1 frame duration of a still, I want the final cut to recognize the targa sequence as a SEQUENCE...
Is that too much too ask from such an editing platform like Final Cut? I hope NOT

    do not have QTPP
    I read about that way
any way to do it without QTPP?
normal QT does not allow me to export in alpha channel...as my graphics are supposed to play on top of shots not on their own...
I'm desperate, have to deliver the project 2 days from now and I'm not good in compromising with anything at all...
    thanks you in advance...

  • Video gets SOFT after using export/ media/match sequence settings

Never had this on any other version of PP.  PC based 64bit Win 7
EX: I get a job delivered to me that was shot on mini dv (now on a HD) & the clips are all seperated as they were shot.
I put them on the TL & want to make 1 long clip out of them.
I export-media-match sequence settings & the video gets 25% softer. Yes my sequence settings are correct.
I have tryed  using "max render quality" button but made no difference.
Does cs5 have a problem in this area? The video looks terrible!
    Please advise

Just drag your footage to the New Item button and will create a sequence that matches your footage.
There isnt a preset for that size but you can use the Desktop setting and create one that way too.

  • Oracle 10g - Data Pump: Export / Import of Sequences ?

    Hello,
I'm new to this forum and also to Oracle (Version 10g). Since I could not find an answer to my question, I open this post in hoping to get some help from the experienced users.
My question concerns the Data Pump Utility and what happens to sequences which were defined in the source database:
I have exported a schema with the following command:
    "expdp <user>/<pass> DIRECTORY=DATA_PUMP_DIR DUMPFILE=dumpfile.dmp LOGFILE=logfile.log"
This worked fine and also the import seemed to work fine with the command:
    "impdp <user>/<pass> DIRECTORY=DATA_PUMP_DIR DUMPFILE=dumpfile.dmp"
It loaded the exported objects directly into the schema of the target database.
    BUT:
Something has happened to my sequences. :-(
When I want to use them, all sequences start again with value "1". Since I have already included data with higher values in my tables, I get into trouble with the PK of these tables because I used sequences sometimes as primary key.
My question go in direction to:
    1. Did I something wrong with Data Pump Utility?
    2. How is the correct way to export and import sequences that they keep their actual values?
    3. When the behaviour described here is correct, how can I correct the values that start again from the last value that was used in the source database?
Thanks a lot in advance for any help concerning this topic!
    Best regards
    FireFighter
    P.S.
It might be that my english sounds not perfect since it is not my native language. Sorry for that! ;-)
But I hope that someone can understand nevertheless. ;-)

My question go in direction to:
    1. Did I something wrong with Data Pump Utility?I do not think so. But may be with the existing schema :-(
    2. How is the correct way to export and import
sequences that they keep their actual values? If the Sequences exist in the target before the import, oracle does not drop and recreate it. So you need to ensure that the sequences do not already exist in the target or the existing ones are dropped before the import.
    3. When the behaviour described here is correct, how
can I correct the values that start again from the
last value that was used in the source database? You can either refresh with the import after the above correction or drop and manually recreate the sequences to START WITH the NEXT VALUE of the source sequences.
The easier way is to generate a script from the source if you know how to do it

  • Problem exporting uncompress AVI

Problem exporting uncompress AVI. The output file will have in-between frames that appear like this:
    Help!

Thanks for response! It's not the player's problem (it's mpc btw), I import it into Premiere for post editing and it's disaster to see the failed rendering.
Mmm need time/Everest to find out the system info. Generally render setting is just straightforward AVI lossless/best quality with no codec assigned.

  • Premiere will not export Uncompressed or DV compressed video files

Working with CS4 with all current updates...
I have no issue exporting any other format (that I know of) including flv and wmv and m2v.
I am using PCs with Windows 7 Pro 64bit on a Desktop with  8GB RAM and Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit on a Laptop with 4GB RAM.   I've had nothing but problems with CS4 since I cleanly installed my  Desktop and purchased my Laptop.  Adobe Premiere will not export DV compressed with video, only audio,  and will not export uncompressed at all!  I have a system  with Vista Pro 64bit at work, and none of these problems are there.
I have  uninstalled and reinstalled the whole suite (plus removed all  preferences files and went in to the user profile and manually removed  any traces) to no avail.  As I am experiencing this same issue across  two totally different systems, is it a known bug with Windows 7 64bit?   Is there any way to fix the issue?

Sorry it's taken a bit to get back with you... I've been busy on another system.  My assets are R3D files at 4k resolution under the Red 1080p preset.  I have a Core2Duo with 8GB RAM, 2TB HDD, Running Windows 7 Pro 64bit and CS4 Production Premium.  What other system specifics do you require?
I do have a Matrox RTX2 card; and did not uninstall and reinstall it when I uninstalled and  reinstalled my CS4 software.
    As for Export:

  • Problem exporting from large sequences

I'm reposting here becase it could be hardware related (the system is new), and because it wasn't answered on the CS5 forum and quickly got buried beneath 100 other threads.  There's usually more in-depth support on this forum.  Here goes:
I'm running CS5 5.02 on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit with an X58A-UD3R mobo, i7 930, 12 GB RAM, and a GTX 470.  The footage is 4:3 NTSC DV, 29.97fps, 720x480. The sequence is DV NTSC Standard 48 kHz.  OS on C drive, media and project on E drive, exporting to F drive.
I often put 100 clips or sometimes even 1000 clips on a sequence.
When I go to File-->Export and start exporting video for a small work area (10 seconds or less), it brings up a dialogue box that says "Encoding Sequence 01" and doesn't make any progress for a painfully long time if there are many clips on the sequence.  The more clips in the sequence, the longer it waits before exporting.  If I isolate the same clip in another empty sequence and try to export the same small work area, it quickly exports the file.  As I add and delete clips from a sequence, the problem waxes and wanes.  When there's over 200-300 clips, I've never seen it export the video because it just sits there forever "encoding".
I've tried this with several export formats: mpeg2, h264, quicktime, etc., with the same results.  Exporting a still JPEG will quickly work on the large sequence, but it is very slow to export video.
It's as if Premiere is trying to encode the entire sequence first even though I've told it to only encode the small work area.  It still only exports the small work area I requested, not the entire sequence.
Can someone please try to replicate this a few hundred clips and/or give me advice?

    Thanks for your replies, guys.
I'm under deadline but will try running PPBM5 on Tuesday and post back here to see if you have ideas.
There must be something wrong with my setup, because although the project runs smoothly, the exporting lags significantly even with 100 or 200 clips.  Surely CS5 should be able to export quickly from sequences as small as that.  I had no problem doing this with previous versions of Premiere Pro.
Can anyone try throwing 100-200 clips onto a sequence to see if it causes any lag before exporting a small work area?
