Export updates

Hi everyone
I want to Export Update Metadata from internet connected WSUS servers to internal WSUS Server(Both in Different isolated Domains)
On the internet Connected WSUS Server, i have used the below command.
C:\PF\Update Services\Tools>wsutil.exe export e:\export.cab e:\export.log
Do i need to copy only Wsus Content Folder on to internal Wsus server or the 3 folders(UpdateServicesDbfiles,UpdateServicesPackaes,WsusConteny)?
On the internal WSUS servers i will import export.cab and export.log, Anything else do i need to?
Please do guide me.

More specifically you need to copy the SUBfolders of WSUSContent, e.g. ~\WSUSContent\*.
On the internal WSUS servers i will import export.cab and export.log
Well, actually, you will only import the CAB file.. the LOG file is, well, a LOGFILE. :-)
Anything else do i need to?
Please do guide me.

Es gab ja 2 Anfragen und dazu möchte ich folgendes noch mitteilen:
a) Update Media Encoder
Eine kpl. Deinstallation mit Neuinstallation nur wegen dieser doofen Anzeige mal sehen. Mir graut´s vor allen Dingen
mit etwaigen verunsicherten Meldungen, die der "Laie" nicht 100%ig deuten kann. Außerdem - bleiben denn die sich in
Arbeit befindeten Daten vorhanden?
b) Abbruch beim exportieren.
Temporäre Dateien schmieren das System wunderbar voll. Das habe ich bereits gemerkt. Das dies auch beim
Export passiert, wußte ich nicht und es läßt sich auch wärend des Prozesses nicht sehen bzw. feststellen wie der
Stand der Dinge ist, sodaß auf Partition C bei ca. 8 Giga freien Platz es evtl. Probleme geben kann.
Gibt es eine Möglichkeit dies zu umgehen?
Auf beide anderen Festplatten ist genügend Platz vorhanden. Wie könnte ich das bewerkstelligen.

I need to export the updated data every one hour.
As far as I know the SBO objects support only updated date.
Please let me know if you have any ideas/solutions to solve this issue.

There are three steps to exporting and then importing updates:
Make sure that the options for express installation files and update languages on the exporting server are compatible with the settings on the importing server. This ensures that you collect the updates you intend to distribute.
Copy updates from the file system of the export server to the file system of the import server.
Export update metadata from the database on the export server, and import it into the database on the import server. The last section explains how to import exported updates to a replica server

Updating Existing Programmes- P6

I have a programme that needs to be updated on a monthly basis by importing 2 different programmes from 2 different contractors. Activity IDs all match, though every time I try to import the programmes the WBS seems to screw up. I've tried importing whilst not updating the WBS, but then I get no programme updates. I've tried with keep existing and update existing WBS, but these seem options muck up the WBS, but do provide the required updates. Is anyone doing anything similar that they can advise on what settings I can use to make this work?

there are quite a few different approaches considering different limitations such as:
- licensing (number of Beneficiary / General Contractor / Subcontractor users)
- hardware, networking, security, mobility, etc for decision between web vs. desktop client application
- project complexity, subcontractor scope, confidentiality issues related to project and global data permissions
depending on your particular project needs, you should consider your options:
- xer (or other transfer files) import/export vs. providing subcontractors with web and/or desktop client application access to a centralised database for planning and updating
- subcontractor users with limited or no global privileges, full or limited project data access, limited resource pool access (low-level node within RBS), linked to low level OBS (responsible for project or project WBS levels)
- use multiple projects within EPS vs. multiple WBS elements within project.
coming back to your problem (the difference in scope between subcontractor sub-project and master project):
- must you use xer's?
- if so, can you export the entire project to xer for subcontractors to update? is not confidentiality an issue?
- if so, is it feasable to break your project (program) into several projects within same EPS? import/export, update separately or
you can use "buffer" projects (one for each xer) for importing and validating the update data for the separate sub-projects (updated subcontractor projects).
proper projects or reflections can be used for that matter. recombining the sub-projects into the master project would still have to be done manually.

Hi Lorin,
Managing WSUS on a disconnected network involves exporting updates and metadata from a WSUS server on a connected network and then importing all that information into the WSUS server on the disconnected network.
There are three steps to accomplishing an import and export.
First, make sure advanced synchronization options for the express installation files feature and languages on the export server match the settings on the import server.
Second, copy updates from the file system of the export server to the file system of the import server.
Third, export update metadata from the database on the export server, and import it into the database on the import server.

How to install Windows updates for Windows server 2003 SP2 Manualy

Hi All,
We have 10 machines running Windows server 2003 SP2. These machines are ISA servers kept in DMZ.
So these servers do not have internet access any any means. We are receiving Non compliance for not patching them for specific .NET framework patches. We have installed them but still the Scanning tools says it is not installed.
We have planned to check it through Windows update but as it is in DMZ there is no Internet connection and we also cannot push through WSUS server as well.
Is there any way we can get the update package in Bulk so we can manually patch them rather than manually downloading them 1 by one and installing them ?

To achieve your goal, I suggest you set up a WSUS server on the disconnected network, then exporting updates and metadata from a
WSUS server on a connected network and importing all that information into the WSUS server on the disconnected network.

WSUS 3.2 and Updates problems

Hi
We have WSUS 3.2 server working OFFLINE. We exported updates from an upstream WSUS and imported all to the WSUS that is offline.
Now, the server is showing all updates but some are in status shown that update didn't downloaded yet. why is that?
Secondly, we tried to update win7 station(using GPO) and it shows this error:
There is NO firewall or any anti-virus on this computer (nore on WSUS server).
This domain is NOT connected to the internet at all, this is a closed network.
I have also noticed that on WSUS IIS(7) the default web site has a question mark on it.. can it be the cause?
Does anyone have any idea?

did some research and apparently that question mark indicates that you have bindings for your website, so that`s ok...
Yeah.. uh... I don't think so.
There are no question marks in my IIS console.
And.. *ALL* websites have bindings, so that's nothing special at all.

Data Pump and Data Manipulation (DML)

Hi all,
I am wondering if there is a method to manipulate table column data as part of a Data Pump export? For example, is it possible make the following changes during DP export:
update employee
set firstname = 'some new string';
We are looking at a way where we can protect sensitve data columns. We already have a script to update column data (ie scramble text to protect personal information) but we would like to automate the changes as we export the database schema, rather than having to export, import, run DML and then export again.
Any ideas or advice would be great!

I haven't read the entire document yet but at first glance it appears to give me what I need. Do you know if this functionality for Data Pump is available on Oracle Database versions 10.1.0.4 and 10.2.0.3 (the versions we currently use).

FIM 2010 Management Agents usage

we have implemented some FIM management agent that read information from different AD forest and the write email contacts into a destination forest. I looking for a tool, or powershell cmdlets I can use to export management agents errors.
I try to explain better, ope FIM Syncronization Service, click on operations button, select the row that reports errors and in pane below show erros details and informations. In my case DistinguishedName for the object that encountered errors. I would
like to export this rows to have a list with all the Distinguishedname and the use that with a script to manage and resolve the issues. i hope to have explained my needed.

You can get this info from FIM sync with WMI.

Scedule Task OIM 11G

Hi All,
I am trying to create a schedule task in OIM11G .
I have done
* export, update, import the task.xml .
* creates a java class that extend the schduler class as reuired.
* created a jar file
* created the plugin zip file ( named plugin.zip )
* put the plugin.zip file in <oim-home>/ plugins
now:
I go into the web console, create a new task, I can see my class in the list and I create a task.
when I ran the task in the consoel I see an error that it can not load the class , so my question is :
do I need to put the jar file in some directory ? - which one exactly ?

Hi
There are two ways to write a scheduled task in OIM11g.
One is plug-in and other is having the scheduled task xml uploaded to MDS.
Out of the second option you can do it in two ways.
1. update your scheduled task details in the OOTB task.xml and import it back. Then create a scheduled Job using admin cosole.
2. Create an XML file like the one shown and upload it to /db in MDS. Name the xml same as the task name.

GPO settings are not applied

Hi everyone
I am using WSUS in my internal network.
When i am trying to deploy GPO, The GPO seems to be applying on the computer but the
GPO settings are not being applied.
I am getting error An error occured while checking for updates for your computer
and in Windows update change settings, i can see it is grayed out with the option
Download updates but let me choose wheter to install them(some settings are managed by your system administrator)
I have disabled windows firewall when i was using Windows XP computers, Is any settings of windows firewall creating issues?
I have created a computer group in WSUS say TESTGroup
In GPO I have assigned the following settings(Please correct me if i am going wrong with the settings)
Configure Automatic updates : 3-Auto download and notify for install
Specify Intranet microsoft update service location: http://mywsus (here should it be mywsus or mywsus:8530)
Enable Client Side targeting : TestGroup ( I have OU in active directory with Computers)
Do not display install updates and shutdown option : Enabled
Automatic Updates detection frequency : 2 hours
Allow Non administrators to receive update notification : Enabled
Allow Automatic updates immedidate installation : Enabled
Turn of recommended updates via automatic updates : Enabled
Reschedule automatic udpates scheduled installation : 10 min
I have approved few updats in WSUS console to install on TestGroup
On Client Computer ihave used the command
wuauclt /detectnow and wuauclt /reportnow

I will like to ask what shall I install in a client desktop? Must I install

Is it that I install Client Only will do or I still have to install PeopleSoft Human Capital Management 9.1 Feature Pack 2? Can someone please assist me?
Another problem what is PeopleSoft Human Capital Management 9.1 Feature Pack 2 about and different from PeopleSoft PeopleTools 8.52 Client Only? I think it might be an easy answer for you guys, but I am new to oracle and confused as well as not sure what is it about. I sincerely need you guys for help.

I already have one server and client on one desktop for PeopleSoft. Is there a need to duplicate another client only to access to the server database?

and what do you mean by this Without Oracle client, you cannot access to the database. Without acces to the database, you cannot run sql (if you do customization - new or modification of existing). Without access to the database, you cannot run DMS (import/export/update/delete...).

Understanding run profiles and syncing

Hello,
I working on a FIM setup with the following run profiles:
File Ma -full import and delta sync (imports a bunch of users and email addresses from a CSV)
FIM Ma - Export, Delta Import, Delta Sync (Exports update MV changes to portal, imports to confirm the changes and then performs a sync for some reason)
AD Ma - Export and Delta Import
My understanding is that whenever a sync is done, it is done against the connector space and the MV, with each MA doing an import or export to the relevant CDS. What I'm not sure about is why I don't need to perform an AD Ma sync before exporting to
AD. My sync rules have been configured in the portal - would this be the reason?
If I didn't have my AD sync rules configured in the portal and ran everything from the sync service application would I need to do an AD MA sync?

Hi Peter,
Short answer is yes because the trigger to create the person in AD would be based on the synchronization rule and provisioning configuration being in the Portal. In reality its a bit more complex and really depends on how the provisioning is being done in
your environment.
Running a synchronization on the AD MA wouldn't normally result in a person being created in AD, its normally be for finding users in AD that need updating because their data is out of sync or flowing information back into FIM that AD is the authoritative
source for (such as user's objectSID) - there are other reasons but listing them all would take a while. I would recommend adding a synchronization step to your AD MA though to ensure that all the data is in sync.
Based on what you have described I'm assuming the provisioning is using the Set/MPR/Workflow triple in the Portal to create a user in AD - so below is a rundown of what is more than likely what is happening in the background.
1. File MA Import & Delta Sync - Imports the user from the file and synchronizes them into FIM Metaverse. The synchronization step also tells FIM to create them in the FIM Portal on the next export
Breaking up the next one a bit
2a. FIM MA - Export - this creates the user in the FIM Portal.
When the user is created in the Portal your AD Provisioning logic within the Portal gets applied to the user; and adds information telling FIM to create them in AD.
2b. FIM MA - Import - this imports the user from the FIM Portal including the information telling FIM to create them in AD
2c. FIM MA - Delta Sync - this synchronizes the updated information from the Portal into the Metaverse. When this synchronization runs FIM finds that the user needs to be created in AD on the next export
3. AD MA Export & Delta Import - The export creates the user in Active Directory and then the import "confirms" that the user has been created.
There are a few other ways that provisioning can happen but based on your description it sounds like the outline above should be what is happening in your environment.

PCNS Inclusion Group question

Hi,
To ensure PCNS works correctly, I assume you have to be part of the Inclusion Group at the time of your password change?
The scenario I am thinking of is where FIM manages the membership of the Inclusion Group...and the user changes their password before a FIM export updates their Group membership...I guess PCNS won't magically start working once they enter the correct Inclusion

Yes, you understand it correctly - password would be changed only in the user's domain and would not be propagated to other directories.
