Exported Quicktime has a weird tracer effect...

I've been trying to export a mov file from Flash CS5.5 and I keep getting this odd tracer effect that I have not seen before.  I don't export video often but I don't remember ever having to deal with this issue.  See for yourself: https://vimeo.com/52401912
Any ideas what's up here?  I have tried literally every setting available for QT and no change has any effect.  Right now I am exporting as a jpeg or png sequence which does not carry on this problem but is a tad tedious for what I am trying to do.
Thanks for any input you can provide.

In the Quicktime settings, what compressor were you using and what were the keyframe settings? Was the frame rate for the exported video the same as the Flash movie's frame rate?

  • IMovie exported to Quicktime has jagged transitions

I have a slideshow (using Ken Burns effect on all pictures) that I just exported from iMovie 6.0.3 to Quicktime, using the H.264 Codec.
I used the "wash in" and "wash out" transitions for each picture. In the Quicktime version, every transition is wicked jaggy -- it looks as though each photo is disintegrating, rather than washing out.
Here are my other settings: Quality: high, frame rate: 15, bitrate: 20 kbits/sec, frame reordering: yes, encoding mode: multi-pass, dimensions: 640x480, scale: letterbox.
What setting can I change in order to ensure smooth transitions? Thanks!

When you export out of iMovie are you doing it using Share> Export QuickTime file or Export Movie? Believe it or not, you can export to Movie and rename the file extension from .m4v to .mp4 and get that to play on any Windows machine with Windows Media Player installed. It maybe a simple matter of saving it out to Movie, renaming it and sending that one along to the client, see if that one works better.

  • Weird ripple effect after export to .jpg

I have been attempting to create star trails for the past couple of weeks.  I'm using a Canon T3i, shooting in RAW forward and the lens is a Canon 40mm pancake lens.
When I look at the 200+ layer image in Photoshop CC, it looks like this:
Looks okay.  But when I export the image out to a .jpg, I get a weird "wavy" effect in the image
Is there any way to get rid of that?  I'm using the lightening blending effect when I merge the layers.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

    Hi,

When starting it within a browser (eg: Apple Website to watch a keynote) I get a message "Quicktime player has stopped working"
I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times. Any tips please ?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Ive got the same problem with Quicktime 7.5.5 on my PC but im not using itunes. It only happens when I open the first instance of Quicktime then it pauses for a while before launching. Every other instance opens normally, but if I close them all and open a new instance, it happens again.
Maybe no biggy cause it eventually opens anyway it doesnt bother me so much but it still pretty frustrating.

  • Changing frame rate when exporting from iMovie '09 using quicktime has no impact on duration.  Why?

Changing frame rate when exporting from iMovie '09 using quicktime has no impact on duration.  Why?
I have a file created by digitizing an 8mm film at a rate of 24 fps. I would like to create a downloaded movie at a frame rate of 15 fps.  The Export using Quicktime option seems to provide that capability but the resulting file has the same duration as the original 24 fps file.  How can I get the exported movie to be slowed down?

    joegez,
There is a feature you can use to slow down the video. In the project, move the mouse pointer over the clip, then click the gear icon. That brings up the Inspector. Click the Clip tab. Then you will see a feature there called Speed. Move the slider to the left to slow down the clip. Or you can enter a percentage in the box on the right.
Hope this solves the problem for you.

  • When i'm editing my video in the timeline it looks perfect, but when i save the video and replay it on quicktime it has these weird lines? does anyone know how to fix that?

when i'm editing my video in the timeline it looks perfect, but when i save the video and replay it on quicktime it has these weird lines? does anyone know how to fix that?

    As Tom states, that's interlacing.
Interlacing was invented when the TV was born, to carry 1/5 the frame with each Hz of the electricity rating. In the US, that's why you use 30 fps (or 29.nnn) in the US and we use 25 fps in europe as the electricity is 60Hz/50Hz.
Interlaced video should ONLY (I repeat ONLY) be used for analog TV signal transports.
Each and every digital TV set today, including all the computer screens, is Progressive, updating the full frame at each screen refresh. And most TV's even refresh much quicker, newest TV's refresh a 800Hz..! (giving then problems with the newest LTE spectums..)
If your source media in interlaced, ask why! And stop shooting interlaced.. ;-)
If you have interlaced video, make sure you apply the DeInterlace setting when you import and transcode it.

  • Exported quicktime presentations not running properly on Windows

I've done a presentation that has been sent out to clients who have come back with vague comments saying that part of the presentation is not visible in full screen mode?
After much searching around the office I've finally found a PC that seems to be doing this, I'd best describe it has playing normally but with a perminant black band across the bottom quarter of the slides?
Any ideas or work arounds? It seems fine in internet explorer and itunes, apart from the lack of pauses but not in quicktime itself?

I have to convert my Keynote '08 presentation for PC. The instructions for the presenters called for PowerPoints format in a CD but I was adviced by an Apple Store employee to export it to QuickTime instead of PowerPoint because QuickTime can preserve all the effects but some of them will be lost with PowerPoint. PowerPoint can handle QuickTime only up to version 2.5 so I have to make sure that the PC at the conference site has QuickTime installed, correct?
My question is: will my QT 7.2 movie (no audio) run smoothly on 6.5.2 which is the newest version for Windows?
Is converting it to PowerPoint safer even though I'll lose some nice effects?

  • Export Quicktime Movie only exports fades and composites (FCP6)

I'm trying to add a couple of lower thirds and a fade in and out to a live capture of a lecture; but for some reason, it's only exporting the effects - the fades and lower thirds. Everything else is skipped in the final QT movie.
I right-click the sequence and say 'Export > QuickTime Movie', leaving the settings as they are. The exported movie is 1.45GB - around the same size as the imported movie - but it's only 29 seconds long. Can anyone enlighten me as to what's going on? I tried clicking 'recompress all frames' but I have two problems with this: (1) it's going to recompress unnecessarily, and (2) it's looking like that will take about two hours.
    Any help would be appreciated.

FCP6. Right there in the question title. Version 6.0.6, if that's important.
It was actually recorded off WireCast, with one camera and desktop streaming. Sequence settings are 720p square pixels, H.264 video.
Export from the File Menu has the same effect.

  • AE CS3 HD exported Quicktime playback stutters!

    Hello AE wizards,
The Problem: After exporting our HD After Effects project to QuickTime the playback stutters just a bit. It will run along fine and then it jerks/hiccups. This happens at various times during playback. We have tried many different export settings but no luck. We would really appreciate some help with this. Thank you.
About our project: We are creating an intro animation for viewing on our computer monitor and for DVD. The movie will be made up of only High Res photos separated into several layers to create a 3D effect. We import the .psd files, add the layers to the timeline and check 3D layers. We create space between each layer on the z axis and then move a camera through the scene. The project dimensions are 1920 X 1080 and the photos are as big as 2000 px X 2000 px. The movie length is about 2:00 min.

Yes. I've viewed your quicktime and...
The stutters are actually already in your animation, they are NOT being caused by playback issues.
You can see this by single frame advancing through your animation, you will quite often encounter frames where nothing changes when compared to the last frame, and you then get a jump on the next frame. This means frames are being dropped during rendering of the animation or the master file you are using has gone through some sort of frame rate conversion. Probably you have converted from 24 frames per second to 29.97 frames per second which requires repeating a number of frames/fields per second (5.97 frames) , these repeated frames will destroy the illusion of smooth motion.
    Heres something you can try:
Check the original animation file by step framing through one frame at a time. Do you see frames that are exactly the same as the previous one? If the answer is yes... then you need to re render the animation, try doing it at the same frame rate you plan to output (29.97fps).
If the answer is NO... then just use the native framerate of that file to do the rest of your project. ie. DONT upsample the framerate to 29.97 or anything else.
The other option is (if the actual real time sync of the animation doesnt matter) to go back to your original animation file and just play the 24fps animation at 29.97 at one to one frame. So we discard the playback rate of the input file (24fps) and just display one frame of the input for each frame required at the output. This ensures that the motion will be smooth, (because we are not repeating frames to keep the duration the same) however it will be playing back slightly faster.
I happened to find this topic because I'm researching how to get smooth playback of quicktime movies on a desktop screen. Its actually proving incredibly hard. Even if you manage to create a master file that actually has your smooth animation in at 24fps... chances are Quicktime will frak it up for you... because it dynamically changes the framerate on playback to suit the display anyway.
If your on a Mac then your desktop is probably set to 60Hz (Which really means 59.94Hz). So re-rendering your 3d animation at 29.97 is probably your best chance at getting smooth motion in the final viewing.

  • 720x480 DV FCP Quicktime aspect shift in After Effects

It's probably something simple, but I've not yet managed to figure it out.
When I export a 720x480 DV/DVCpro NTSC quicktime movie from FCP 4.5 using either the export quicktime movie and export quicktime conversion commands and then import that file into After Effects 6.5 Professional and place it in a 720x480 DV NTSC composition, the video bleeds off the edge of the composition's viewer window on both the left and right sides. I am able to resize the video manually by changing the scale to 99 percent horizontally and leaving it at 100 percent vertically, but there is a noticable loss in quality, especially when I take the effected clip back into FCP. I can open the same exported clip in FCP without any aspect ratio problems or degredation of quality.
I don't ever remember having this problem before and I can't say for sure exactly when it started (maybe a month ago or so). I've tried everything that comes to mind including different combinations of pixel aspect ratios, frame sizes, etc., but haven't had any luck. Besides, it's a simple DV NTSC to DV NTSC. This shouldn't be happening!
I'm currently running the 6.5.0.97 build of AE and FCP 4.5 on OSX 10.3.9 with QuickTime 7.1.2 installed. If anyone has any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.

    When I export a 720x480 DV/DVCpro NTSC quicktime
movie from FCP 4.5 using either the export quicktime
movie and export quicktime conversion commands and
then import that file into After Effects 6.5
Professional and place it in a 720x480 DV NTSC
composition, the video bleeds off the edge of the
composition's viewer window on both the left and
    right sides.
In After Effects select the footage item in the Project window. Choose File->Interpret Footage->Main or press Command-F.
Set the Pixel Aspect Ratio to D1/DV NTSC.
    Click OK.

  • Export - QuickTime results in green frames, mis-aligned audio

I have the latest Final Cut Studio with Final Cut 7. I used to use Final Cut Express 4 and recently upgraded. With FCE 4, if I went File-> Export-> QuickTime (not QuickTime conversion) it would rapidly export my project in full quality (albeit a huge file size). It didn't matter how many effects I had or layers of video, the quality was always the best. However, with FCP 7, when I do the same thing, even the simplest transition or effect will throw off the audio and result in green frames instead of my effect/transition. The project settings are the same ones I used in FCE 4, and the project is always fully rendered and prepared. _*+Can anyone tell me why this is happening and how I can fix it?+*_
I need to be able to use this option because I do videography for the Drama Festival in Massachusetts and I need to be able to edit up to the last minute. This form of export is so speedy and lossless that the file size isn't important.
I use a unibody MacBook Pro (Mid 2009) with 4GB RAM and 500GB HDD, and I always switch to the Nvidia 9600GT for editing.

  • FCP "Export - QuickTime Movie" gamma shift

Above is an example of what happens when I do a direct export in Final Cut Pro, using the Export -> QuickTime Movie function.  As you can see, the image is significantly brighter and the colors are a little more washed out (this image isn't particularly colorful, but trust me, it washes them out).  I always thought the Export -> QuickTime Movie meant the image would not be compressed--that it was a straight export using the sequence settings.
The image you see above was shot natively in ProRes 422 (HQ) using an Arriflex Alexa.  It has never been transcoded.  The bottom image is what it looks like using Export -> QuickTime Movie.  Totally unacceptable for a piece of professional software, if you ask me.
I can't express how infuriating this is, to have everything looking perfect in FCP and then exporting only to have it look like garbage.  I've been able to play with gamma correction a bit and have gotten it PRETTY close to the original look, but this seems like a horrible workaround.
Anyone else know why this is happening?  Is there a fix for this?
I'm working with FCP 6.0.6 and QuickTime 10.1.

    Sure thing, Meg.
Here's a source clip with "approximate" gamma correction:
"Approximate" gamma correction makes the image look flatter within Final Cut Pro than it actually is.
Now, the very same clip and frame, but with gamma set to "Accurate" :
Now, things are switched.  The exported image looks flatter than the source clip within FCP.
Here's another tidbit of info--the frame from my first post was professionally color graded and exported as a self-contained movie--so there were no filters, FCP or otherwise, being applied there.  But the difference is just night-and-day to me.

  • Export-Quicktime-DVPAL 48kHz anamorphic settings for 16:9???

I have project I filmed on a Sony PD170 in 16:9, brought it into FCPHD and changes sequence to 16:9 looks fine for what I want.
Now when I export it out for DVDSpro I use the "Export-Quicktime-DVPAL 48kHz anamorphic" setting when I look at the file in QT 7 it is stretched vertically????
First of all why? Then when I go to DVDSpro when I create new project should I have it on "force to letterbox or Pan Scan"? The Simulator is set for 16:9 but when I simulate the DVD the film in back to 4:3 any guidelines would help
    Many thanks

    Hi Allister,
Yes it is stretched vertically and correct. DV PAL is always (no matter if 4:3 or 16:9) 720x576 pixels. The displaying device or software has to stretch the image horizontally to compensate for that during projection.
In DVDSP you should set the display mode to "16:9 Letterbox". The Simulator will always start-up with the setting specified under Preferences-Simulator. If it says 4:3 there, you have to manually set it to 16:9 before playing.
    HTH,
    Uwe

  • Export Quicktime with leading header out of AE CS4

    Hi everyone,
I have to get a workflow with the Rosendahl bonsaiDRIVE (portable video and audio multitrack recorder) and After Effects up and running. Unfortunately the only files that server accepts via Ethernet are Uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2 Quicktime files with a leading header. It no problem creating those files with Quicktime Pro. I just have to check Prepare for Internet Streaming and it works fine.
Is there any way to get files like that right out of After Effects? I can't use the renderlist as there's no such option as Prepare for Internet Streaming. When trying it with Export -> Quicktime i can enable it but the Server keep telling me that theres no leading QT header and therefor refuses the file.
Is that some kind of bug or am i missing something?
    Best regards
    Michael

You're probably getting that error because of a frame size/codec conflict.
Your comp is 900x600, and the MainConcept codec is looking for a frame size of 720x480 (NTSC DV).
Using the Quicktime wrapper to export the H.264 is a fine optioin, however, AE will not do as good of a job compressing to that codec as Quicktime Pro, or a dedicated compression application would do. AE can only cache a limited number of frames for the compression process (frames before and after the current frame), and as a result, the compression quality and filesize will not be as small as they could be by using a different tool for the job.
As such, your supposition about rendering out an uncompressed/losslessly compressed movie and then running it through QT Pro (or another compression application) yielding superior results was a correct one.

  • FCP 7 crashing on render and when exporting quicktime movie & rendering

    Hi Guys,
I recently upgraded to Lion and am still using Final Cut Studio 3.
I have a 1.37min sequence which i wanted to export and burn the DVD. My normal workflow for this is:
    - Export/quicktime movie/make self contained
    - Open compressor and convert
But FCP 7 keeps on crashing on export, in fact is very unstable recently. It also crashes on rendering, and quite often when im editing.
    - Final Cut Studio 7.03
    - Footage is HDV 1080 50i
    Any ideas on a solution??

Are you converting those clips to ProRes in ClipWrap? Or keeping them native? You MUST convert them to ProRes.
The NXCam came out just before 7.0.3.  FCP did update to mesh with that camera, but it's still rocky. And now that FCP 7...legacy...has been discontinued, there will be no more updates. But you have ClipWrap so that should be fine.  As long as you convert to ProRes.
