Exporting a .wmv in Quicktime Pro only exports first 30s?

I open a 2:30mn .mp4 movie (created in iMovie, compressed in Compressor) in QT Pro, and choose:
*Edit > Select All*, then
*File > Export*, and choose "Movie to Windows Media" & "Default Settings".
It works, but the resulting file is only the first 30 seconds of the movie. Sometimes 29 seconds. Sometimes 34 seconds.
Anyone knows how to export the whole movie as a .wmv?
Thanks!

I'm assuming that you have the flip4mac codec installed?
If so, you have the free version which will only permit the first 30 seconds to be exported. If you want more, you'll have to pay!
However visualhub also exports wmv, so I'd weigh up the differences between flip4mac pro and visualhub if you want to continue exporting wmv's.
From the flip4mac website: Trial download limitations:
In trial mode you can export ½ the duration of your source file up to 30 seconds. In addition, a watermark will be placed on any files that you import until you upgrade to Player Pro.

  • Quicktime Pro Windows export problem

Whenever I try to export a video in Quicktime Pro, I always get "Error -43: A file could not be found."
What is wrong with this thing? I've tried everything I can think of. How do I solve this?

    Let's start with some basics:
    What version of QuickTime?
What is the format of the original file?
Does that file play, in it's entirety, in QuickTime?
To what format are you attempting to export the video?

  • Midi Files Don't Work In FCE..and I don't have Quicktime pro to export it

    Hi there,
I am working on a project in Final Cut Express 1.0.1
I have a MIDI sound file that will not import into the application. Also, I don't have quicktime pro to export that file to a mp3 or aiff.
Does anybody know if their is a free plugin that will allow me to export my midi file or import it into Final Cut.

Try this, it may work -
Set iTunes Preferences > Importing > Import Using > AIFF Encoder
Set the AIFF Encoder preferences to 16 bit, stereo, 48KHz
Add the MIDI file to your iTunes library. This may convert your Midi file to AIFF.
If not, once the MIDI file is in your iTunes library,
Select the MIDI file in your iTunes library
Go to the Advanced menu and select 'Convert to AIFF'
Then export the AIFF file to your hard drive
Then import the AIFF into FCE

There never was a trial version of FCP7. The application was only ever sold as part of the Final Cut Studio suite of applications. You might still find copies on eBay.

  • Export using quicktime conversion only exports 23 seconds of my project...

    Hi,
I am trying to output a promotional video to .wmv format using the quicktime conversion. It only exports 23 seconds of footage before stopping, which is no use at all.
    Whats wrong?
I have tried setting ins and outs around the video, and I have tried selecting all the content in the timeline, but nothing seems to help.
    Thanks.

Thank you, very much. The cost of the flip version needed is only $49 so that is not bad, but why would you actually need something extra when the conversion option is available in Final Cut? I would understand if the option did not exist at all and the flip 4 mac would make the option available.
Not on mine. I had to buy a third party product to do that.
AFAIK, the ability to be exporting to wmv is not included with FCS or Compressor or QT. If it appears in your options, you may have installed another app that includes the transcoders and codecs.
Microsoft and Apple do not cooperate in the format wars, neither will support the other and there's money involved. It's a shame becuase Flash is whacking both of them stupid and Silverlight is even kinda cool. QT's days are probably numbered.

  • Audio upsampling in Quicktime Pro: Best export settings for Final Cut?

I'm using Quicktime Pro to convert audio from 32 kHz to 48 kHz, for use in FCE/FCP. Quicktime gives me several options for export settings. I want to make the conversion lossless, without increasing the size of the audio file too much.
These are the settings I'm using so far:
    Format: Linear PCM
    Channels: Stereo (L R)
    Rate: 48 kHz
Sample Rate Converter Settings: Quality: Best
Linear PCM Settings: Sample size: 16 bits
Are these settings the best choices? Does anyone have experience doing this kind of upsampling?
Here are the other options in Quicktime:
    Format: Linear PCM, A-Law 2:1, IMA 4:1, MACE 3:1, MACE 6:1, QDesign Music 2, Qualcomm PureVoice, and mu-Law 2:1
Channels: 2 Discrete Channels, Mono, Stereo (L R)
Rate: there are other choices, but I know 48 kHz is what I want
    Advanced Settings:
Sample Rate Converter Settings: Faster, Fast, Normal, Better, Best
Linear PCM Settings (when Linear PCM is the format): 8 bit, 16 bit, 24 bit, 32 bit (floating point checked), 32 bit (floating point unchecked).
The file size grows quickly as you increase the Linear PCM bit settings.

You can't create something that is not in the file.
Moving from 32kHz to 48 will only make the file size
larger and can't improve the audio.
Doesn't FCP or FCE import your file at 32. Or does it
change it to 48 after import?
I am aware that increasing the audio from 32 kHz to 48 kHz will not improve the quality of the audio. And yes, Final Cut Pro and Express will both capture and allow you to work witih 32 kHz audio.
I have several hours of video shot with 32 kHz audio settings that I'd prefer to have stored on disk with 48 kHz audio, because (a) some applications like iMovie have demonstrated problems with 32 kHz audio in the past, and (b) the majority of my video is shot with 48 kHz audio, so my 32 kHz video will eventually end up in a 48 kHz project, leaving the upsampling to Final Cut. Yes, I do eventually plan to burn my projects to DVD as well, but this isn't an immediate concern.
The problem with doing the conversion in Final Cut is this: Some of the people knowledgeable about Final Cut Pro and Express recommend doing the upsampling using Quicktime or another application, instead of using Final Cut, because Final Cut may not do as good a job as Quicktime. So my intention is to upsample the audio now in preparation for later projects. I don't completely understand why Final Cut wouldn't do as good of a job at upsampling, but a couple of experienced users in the FCP and FCE forums have independently corroborrated this.
Thanks to everyone for their helpful posts and responsiveness.

  • QuickTime Pro audio exporting error - help please!

So I've got Perian installed to read 1080p HD movies and I opened up .mkv files in QuickTime Pro and allowed it to read the files into memory (let the grey bar go for a few minutes).  Once that was done, I wanted to export the DTS 5.1 surround sound audio track to .AIF format and do a pass through encoding of the video only.  After this, I use MAX to convert the .AIF file into an AC3 file which I add back into the video only to create the final .mp4 file with 5.1 sound.  I've done this successfully before and I prefer this method to downconverting the 5.1 audio into stereo sound when converting the .mkv to .mp4.  This time however, QuickTime Pro miserably failed.  I have Avatar in 1080p and The Lord of the Rings trilogy in 1080p as well and I wanted to convert them to .mp4 the same way I've done before.  All of them failed with the same error.  When I tried to export the audio, I believe it said, "qtKiterrorcatchall (-1309)" and it failed.  It said this for all of the videos and strangely enough, it worked great with another .mkv movie I had perfectly with audio and video tracks in the same formats.  Does anyone know how I can fix this and export the audio track so I can preserve the surround sound and put it back into the .mp4 video file? Many thanks...

I'm having the same problem. Were you able to get an response or and answer to this problem? Thanks

  • Trying to export QuickTime but only the first 30 seconds exports

I'm trying to export my 3 minute long project using QuickTime conversion but only the first 30 seconds of the sequence exports. How do I get the full video to export?

If you're trying to export it to WMA or WMV, you need to purchase a version of Flip4Mac which includes that capability. QuickTime cannot create files in those formats without third-party software which provides the necessary engine; even though it appears that QuickTime is doing the conversion, it's not.

  • Export dialogue box crashed quicktime pro?

After upgrading our Avid Quicktime exporting is broken.
As per Avid we can only go as high as 7.2 for now but all versions of 7 that I've been able to find and install exhibit the exact same crash: when I select File\Export\Options and open the Settings tab Quicktime just completely goes away.
I can play videos and audio but export is totally broken, which has broken our Avid and Sorenson as well.
Because it's every version of Quicktime that's doing this, I'm thinking the uninstalls I'm attempting aren't quite thorough enough.
Anyone have this problem with the export dialogue?

I found this post in an Avid Forum. It works! (BTW, I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2 32-Bit)
Ok, behold...I have a fix!!! I actually can't believe I didn't remember this. Ok, so I noticed Firefox crashed when opening a HD QT file. Once I saw this, I immediately remembered that you CAN NOT run quicktime in the default "Direct X" mode on Win64. To change this, go to "Edit>Preferences>Quicktime Preferences" and click on the "Advanced" tab. Set the "video" to "safe mode (GDI only)". This fixed any crashing I had with quicktime, quicktime in Firefox, quicktime pro exporting and even fixed my problems with Sorenson Squeeze. Horay for me! Apple should make a note of this to users downloading for Win64. This may actually be the same case for Vista but I'm not sure.

  • Flip4Mac WMV Query: Why it only export a portion of the QT movie?

    Hello all.
I downloaded, installed and purchased the "pro version" of Flip4Mac WMV for QuickTime. My QT is QuickTime Pro, enabling me to within a QT movie, export it to various movie format, including Window's .wmv format.
But this problem has been "bugging" me since Day 1 I use Flip4Mac, when I choose to export a QT movie to a .wmv format, it does not export the entire movie (in whole, in length), but almost just export half of the length of the QT movie -- hence I am not getting the .wmv mov in whole.
Has anyone encounter this problem, and if there is any fix to this?
    Thanks and cheers

    Hi TopoTone, it's OK.
Yes, when I am in the Flip4Mac WMV Preference Pane, I see my name, a serial number and it says "Flip4Mac WMV Player Pro". 3 buttons choice of Upgrade License, Change Serial Number and Deactivate Number.
Now it's my turn to "sound stupid" but since I know very little about Flip4Mac; Please don't tell me that Flip4Mac WMV Player Pro itself do not have the feature to export a .wmv file as a whole? Is that why I am facing? That I need to at least upgrade to a Flip4Mac WMV Studio??
    Thanks and cheers

  • Export Quicktime Movie only exports fades and composites (FCP6)

I'm trying to add a couple of lower thirds and a fade in and out to a live capture of a lecture; but for some reason, it's only exporting the effects - the fades and lower thirds. Everything else is skipped in the final QT movie.
I right-click the sequence and say 'Export > QuickTime Movie', leaving the settings as they are. The exported movie is 1.45GB - around the same size as the imported movie - but it's only 29 seconds long. Can anyone enlighten me as to what's going on? I tried clicking 'recompress all frames' but I have two problems with this: (1) it's going to recompress unnecessarily, and (2) it's looking like that will take about two hours.
    Any help would be appreciated.

FCP6. Right there in the question title. Version 6.0.6, if that's important.
It was actually recorded off WireCast, with one camera and desktop streaming. Sequence settings are 720p square pixels, H.264 video.
Export from the File Menu has the same effect.

  • Video conversion using Quicktime Pro (Which Export Settings?)

I tried converting videos (.avi) to .m4v so that I can play them on my iPod Touch. However I am having problems.
iPod Touch documentation says that the following video file formats are supported by iPod touch:
    A H.264 (Baseline Profile Level 3.0)
    B MPEG-4 (Simple Profile)
    My question is:
    1. Can anyone show me how can i covert to those format using Quicktime Pro? And please do let me know which exact EXPORT setting I am supposed to use. I used EXPORT> Movie to iPod . It did not seem to work.
    Thanks in Advance.

I use it on a 24" iMac C2D running at 2.33GHz with 3GB of RAM, and it's much quicker than a regular QT export and a bit quicker than VisualHub. I won't quote a time to encode a "2 hour movie" because there's a lot more factors involved like resolution and original file encoding but the device is faster than using the twin cores.
No, it won't work with Handbrake, nor VisualHub for that matter. It acts as a plug-in (albeit hardware) for QT and any application that uses QT for export can utilise the turbo.264.
One other (for me big) advantage is that Elgatos own software for using the turbo.264 supports AppleScript and hence Automator.
