Exporting in original format

Does anyone know how to export multiple images from Aperture in their original size and format (for simple backing up, say)? Dragging to the DT worked in iPhoto, but Aperture seems to insist on converting images to JPEG previews if you do this. If you choose Export, you have to select a format for all the exported images, which I don't want to do - I want to leave them as they are. The option "Leave unchanged" isn't there.
Apologies if this has been covered before, but I'm new to Aperture.

Using Export, I can't find any way to preserve the original file format - you have to select a single format for all the images you're exporting. I have a mixture of jpgs, tiffs, psds and RAW, and I don't want to have to change them all to the same format.
What method do you use for backing up? I do back up the Aperture Library too, but mine is enormous, and its structure would be a nightmare to untangle if you should need to retrieve particular images in an emergency. A simply drag-and-burn backup would be much easier.

  • Video Sidecar Files (.THM) Not Created When Video Exported As Original - They should be.

When exporting video as in it's original format the .THM sidecar file (which contains all the relavent metadata for the video) should be included so that other programs (or even Lightroom itself if using the Add to This Catalog option during export) can have access to the metadata for the video.
    Here is my use case:
After importing the original video clips I would like to do the following to keep my footage clean and conserve space (as we all know HD video eats a LOT of space)
    1. Trim excess / unneeded footage from the clip
    2. Export the clip in it's original format with a new name (such as MVI_1234_trimmed.mov) and have it added back to the catalog during the export process.
    3. Delete the original clip containing the unneeded footage.
This workflow is almost perfect in the initial LR 4 beta release except that a copy of the .THM file is not included when the video is exported.  This means the new clip will not contain any metadata when added to LR or presumabley other applications.  I can manuall get around this by duplicating the original .THM file and renaming the duplicate to match the name of the new trimmed clip (example MVI_1234_trimmed.THM) then manually importing into Lightroom.  However this breaks the almost perfect workflow and increases time and room for error.  It would no longer be an automated process which could easily be applied to clips in bulk.
Please have LR create the sidecar file with when exporting in original format or at least have an option for it!

The proposed workflow may not be valid based on the discussion here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/947245?tstart=0 but the sidecar file point still is.  Exporting as H.264 does not preserve metadata either.  LR shows no camera / exposure / date time information for the H.264 version.

  • How to most efficiently export photos on their original format with all metadata and adjustments?

How do I most efficiently export photos on their original format with all metadata and adjustments applied? I am looking for a solution for exporting corrected photos between computers with Lightroom 5 installed. Preferably with no exporting or merging of catalogs.
Thanks in advance for you support,
    JP Jacobsen

And yet exporting a catalog is the perfect solution for communicating with another LR catalog...
But if you really want to export photos , File>Export should work. I guess I don't really understand what your concerns are.

  • DV (MPEG2)-Trim to selection - Export - MPEG4=Original DV format/quality?

I have imported DV Video into iMovie 08 then opened the files in Quicktime and 'Trimmed them to selection' and want to save the trimmed selections in the original DV format (MPEG2) so instead of saving them as a self contained movie in QT I have gone to 'File' drop down menu and selected 'Export' to find that you have a choice of everything including 'DV Streaming' which seems to reduce the file size dramatically, and MPEG 4 basic and MPEG 4 improved....whatever the difference is I don't know...
Anyway, basically I just want to be able to chop pieces out of my original DV (MPEG2) footage and save them in the same format without any loss of quality. Should I select MPEG4 Improved? Is that the equivalent of MPEG2 the same as my original DV Video tapes or is some compression taking place?
I would appreciate it if someone out there knows what this is all about... Thanks Kevin

    Hi Malcolm
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly and I confirmed that you are correct because the file size is the same but I was confused because it changes the .dv to a .mov QT file so I was under the impression that it was no longer in the original format and had been compressed.
What actually happens for it to change from .dv to .mov and is it different in any way?
    Thanks
    Kevin

  • Any way to export project to original format (dv) without loosin quality?

I know that many has been said in the forum of exporting and file formats, and I have read lots of posts relating the topic, but I need to put another question concerning the issue.
I have a MiniDV video camera and use iMovie08.
I just want to select wich clips I use, join some of them to make a short video and save them as mp4 or mov format to save on disk and delete the .dv original files.
I don't want in the process to loose much quality.
I know how to do it with iMovie but the results are not good, because I notice a big loose in brightness and color that affect every clip.
I have try to convert one clip using ffmpegx with the h.264 (x264) setting and the result was very good and fast.
I them decide to export in imovie to .dv thinking that I will get the original quality and them compress with ffmpegx but even this setting get the same loose in brigthness and color.
I know that there are some filters to adjust the output but they are very time consuming and I do not need them with ffmpegx.
1.- Why the loose of brightness and color in every imovie setting? The settings with ffmpegx are nearly the same and that doesn't happen.
2.- Is there a way to export out of imovie to convert in ffmepx without loosing any quality?
    Thank's very much.

  • Exporting in the original format without compression

What is the correct export setting to export a sequence to be saved in its original format?
When I use the setting Export - Quicktime Movie - Setting - Current Settings
Include Audio and Video - Make Movie Self Contained, it looks as though I am losing some of the quality when I view the new Quicktime file. Is this my imagination? If it is not, what is the correct way to create a new file with the edited sequence without any compression?
    FCP Version 5.1.4

I have taken old Video 8 tape and converted it to a Quicktime file using FCP log and capture. I used the setting DV NTSC 48 kHz. I then imported the file into FCP and did some basic editing such us taking out the "monkey cam" portions and the really boring segments. I want to be able to save the film for more precise editing later without losing any of the quality of the film. I will compress it when I am done with the fine tuning type of editing.
I will compress it later using the setting - DVD Best Qulity 4:3 - Mpeg 2 5.0 Mbps 2-pass 4:3. Then I will take it into DVD Studio to create the DVD and burn it.

  • Export to Excel format changed after update to new Office

    Post Author: Ceraq
    CA Forum: Exporting
I am using the XL export format as an intermediate step to some complex calculations and ties that are not supported in my legacy system.  To get what I want I simply used a CR XI report to create a mid way data file and then used a second report to crunch the final numbers from the data file.  Its a long painful story as to exactly why I have to do it this way... not my choice.
Prior to the update when I exported more than ~65k lines to an XL format they remained in one sheet.  So the second report would grab all the data and go...  Now, after the update of office, the report gets split into seperate sheets each of ~65k records long and the second report sees each sheet as a seperate data table!  I'm pushing over 1.25 million records into less than 400k in the mid data file so I'm getting about 7 sheets instead of the original 1.
I have a lot of work and time invested in this method so I would like to fix it so it still works in the previous manner... I have tried to export to a different format, but it seems that CR XI cannot export to a format that it can also read in... at least that I have found and not without creating a whole new DB for it to export into (Access).  I cannot unroll the new office either as it is already enterprise wide...
Reomendations? Suggestions? Should I simply go get a few cases of Dr. Pepper and tell my wife I wont be home this week and re write everything (no plan on how I'd do that either...)?
    Best regards,
    Michael

  • Can I export in different formats at the same time?

Most of my pictures are in different formats. When I choose ones of different formats and then try and export them at the same time, I have to choose what format to put them in(TIFF, JPEG, etc.) Is there an option to export each one in it's original format or do they all have to be exported in one format of my choosing?
Maybe I just don't understand formats and how Aperture makes adjustments from Masters to Versions.
    Please help if you can.
    Thanks,
    Brian

i do all the time. Select the images you want to export and start to export. Once the export begins, select a second set of images and start to export. You can watch the exports through Activity Monitor under Window Menu.

  • Why is the version file smaller than the original file, although I didn't make changes in the file? And why is the keywords don't exporting with original files?

Hi! Why is the version file smaller than the original file, although I didn't make changes in the file? And why is the keywords don't exporting with original files?

Wild guess: you're using the the wrong export settings. You'll need to tell us more before we can help you - like the export settings you're usng, the size and format of the originals etc.

  • Export service provider  format error

During a development of the Export plugin I've run into a problem:
Need to export some files to multiple formats (depends on the original format: JPEG or DNG)
but according to the documentation the settings of export allow only one of the supported formats (JPEG, PSD, TIFF, DNG, ORIGINAL).
Is there some way to come over this limitation? If YES please show me how.
And the second thing: when I set only one format in `allowFileFormats` option ('DNG') regardless of the origin file format I always get JPEG one. However, if I set few output formats in
`allowFileFormats` such as ( TIFF, DNG) as a result I get the correct one (according to my settings). So my question is: is it a bug or a feature?

Well those are the only formats (JPEG, PSD, TIFF, DNG, ORIGINAL), but if you want to do 2 in 1 go, you have to roll your own export using:
    local es = LrExportSession { photosToExport=photos, exportSettings=settings }
    es.doExportOnCurrentTask()
    something like that.
PS - No export filters allowed when rolling ad-hoc exports.

  • Export JPEG Original Version

Is ist possible to export the Original Version in JPEG without resetting all the pictures?
    Simon

Not entirely sure I fully understand your question, but the original files are not being altered by Lightroom. Lightroom is a non-destructive editing program. Any modifications you have made to them are stored and applied on export, etc. So your original files are still "original" as it were. What file format are your originals? Maybe this is where I'm mis-interpreting your question - are your "originals" RAW files and you want to produce an un-edited JPG set?

  • Export multiple resolutions/formats/versions in single export preset

I would like to be able export multiple resolutions of a project at the same time into separate folders. I can kind of do this now by having multiple export presets and running each of them right after the other and then letting them export simultaneously. Even though the export preset has a folder name specified, I have to manually type in the unique project name into each export preset. Unfortunately  this becomes a little bit cumbersome as I often use 3 or 4 export presets for each project, and I may be exporting multiple projects at the same time. Obviously it makes sense to just type the unique text once (or have it automatically read from metadata) to avoid typos and make it easier on me.
I think there are two parts to make this work. The first is using metadata to name the folder name (to ensure unique foldernames), and the second is to allow "export preset groups" that export multiple presets together.
    Here is my scenario:
    I have three export presets:
600px saves to subfolder "project 600px for web"
2400px saves to subfolder "project 2400px for print"
600px watermark saves to subfolder "project 600px watermark"
So I have to type the real project name, replacing "project" three times for each project. This information could be easily entered automatically because lightroom already has that metadata in the folder name, or collection name.
This could be entered for the folder name in the same way custom file naming is done with the Filename Template Editor.
Another option would be use the Custom Text field in the Filename Template Editor to manually enter the project name if it's not already in some metadata field.
All of this already works great with the file name options, it just needs to be applied to the folder name as well.
Once the folder naming is taken care of, just group multiple presets into a preset group, or allow to select multiple presets at once, and exporting multiple resolutions/formats/versions of a group of images is made easy.

    Thanks Rob
Your export plugin does allow running multiple export presets in a single group, however it still doesn't address the folder naming issue. Using your tool, I can easily initiate my multiple presets in a single export, however I am stuck using the generic foldername that I specified in my original export preset. This means that after the export completes, I still have to rename the folders to the particular project name. I would save the time of typing the project name into lightroom, but then just have to repeat that same task later outside of lightroom. It also prevents me from exporting two projects at the same time (or one after the other) because both projects would end up in the same generically named folders.
That said it is a useful plugin that I will likely use under the specific scenarios where it does work.

  • How do you restore an iMovie 8 back to the original format?

First of all I hated iMovie 8 at first... But now I am beginning to enjoy the ease of making movies.. It will be even better when your 3rd party vendors for effect start providing them again... In the mean time I exported an original movie I made to iWeb format- when I go to bring it into iDVD 8 it can read it.. Is there a way to restore my iMovie to a format iDvd 8 can read? Please please don't tell to start over again...

  • Crystal report : Export to Text format from BI Launch pad

    Hi,
We are facing issue in exporting the Crystal report to text format option from BI Launch pad view mode. Currently BI launch pad doesn’t support export to Text format option for crystal report in view mode. But export to text format option is feasible in schedule mode. But customer is not interested in exporting the reports through schedule mode.
Please advise, if we have any alternative way of exporting the crystal report to text format option from BI Launch pad.

  • Export to Text format

When a report is exported to Text format, trailing spaces do not appear in the exported file.
How do you resolve this issue?
    1. Create a report.
    2. Include 3 fields
    3. Export ->txt
After the end of 3rd field we require 200 spaces...any idea...

Try to insert a new formula after the third field like this
    space(200)
or try to create a formula for the third field like this
    +space(200)
and place this formula in the place of the third field and export to text file.
