Exporting QT to .wmv question

I have QT Pro and Flip4Mac. I would like to save a short :30 second QT movie as a WMV file so my wife can play it on a work PC. WMV files are the only thing her computer can play. Anyways, when I Export to WMV everything seems to work except that the new file is cut short (half of the original QT movie length). No matter what I do, I can't seem to export the entire QT movie to WMV. I've even tried exporting in segments but then I can't save it. The original QT movie came from iMovie and I tried both saving from iMovie first as a QT and as a WMV file, but still the WMV gets cut short. Any ideas? Thanks.

You know...it's Player that I purchased. Looking at the purchase window for Flip4Mac, Pro states being able to edit and convert files. I'm assuming this is what I need. I guess Player simply allows Quicktime to play and save WMV files in the QT format, but not edit them in any way or allow QT to create WMV files. I guess I'm just confused, becasue even in iMovie the "Share" function gives one the option of saving as a WMV movie file, and even when I do this from iMovie, only half of the file is converted. And if this is a limitation in iMovie, why even give anyone this choice if it doesn't utilize it? Grrrrr.

    How do I edit.

Let me help getting your question back to something we might understand.
    - You are exporting your video AS .wmv
    and
    - when you export it, there are black bars left and right of the image.
    How do you fix?
Ok - what was the format of the video prior to your exporting it? When you edited it in FCP, what were the sequence settings? That will help get the right settings for flip4mac.

  • Export Full Screen WMV (PP CS4)

I'm trying to export to a wmv format but when I play the video file, the dimensions stay fixed rather than expanding with the window if I maximize it.
What settings do I need to change in PP or Encore to allow the video to expand.
The source file is actually a wmv (I've just shortened it) and it expands along with the window. I've tried exporting the shortened video using the same dimensions as the source (changing the settings in PP) and it still has the same small and fixed dimensions.
Yes, the resolution deteriorates obviously but that's ok.
    Thank you for any advice.

    Hi Bill,
I just want to clarify my problem.  When I open the source wmv file in Windows Media Player, I can expand the window or make it full screen and the video also expands.  When I try to do the same thing with the exported wmv file, the video itself remains fixed width and height when I expand or make the window full screen.
The source file is also wmv.  The specs of the file are:
    Frame width:  1024
    Frame height:  576
    Data rate:  3072kbps
    Total bitrate:  3104jbps
    Frame rate:  25 frames/second
All I've done was to remove some footage to shorten the runtime of the source file.  Specifically, I imported the source wmv into a new PP project and cut out portions of it.
I clicked on File / Export and used the following specs:
    Format:  Windows Media
    Under the Video tab:
    Codec:  Windows Media Video 9
    Allow Interlaced Processing [unchecked]
    Encoding Passes:  Two
    Bitrate Mode:  Variable Unconstrained
    Frame Width:  1024
    Frame Height:  576
    Frame Rate:  25
Pixel Aspect Ratio:  D1/DV NTSC (0.9091)
Please let me know if you want more information.
    Thanks again.

  • Premiere Elements 4 - exporting video to .wmv

    Hi,
I have Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0 and cannot seem to export videos to .wmv formats. Windows Media file (.wmv) is listed as a supported video format for export in the help files, and I have found several threads that talk about exporting it on earlier versions of PE. However, when I go to file / export / Movie I do not see that option available. Nor do I see it from the Share tab. MPEG
Anyone know how to export video to .wmv files in PE4.0?
    Thanks,

It is there in the Share tab... I had trouble finding it intially. You need to scroll down through the options... yes it does scroll down. :)

  • Two Questions -- Ipod Export Fail and Wmvs

    Hey there,
New to quicktime on windows, got two questions.
First, when I try to export for the IPOD default setting, I get the error -2147023174: an unknown error occured.
Second, is there any way to play WMVs in Quicktime on a PC? Flip4Mac is obviously not going to work, but is there an equivalent for windows?

My other question is, when I replaced my iPod, does my warranty get renewed? Because the serial number on my new iPod says it expires in 2009, but the orginal box still serves as my receipt. (the box says it expires on the 29th)
Any warranty on a replacement iPod last for either 90 days, or the remainder of the original warranty whichever is the longer period.

  • Problem Exporting.. (WMV FORMAT)

    Can anyone help?
I am new to Final Cut Pro 6 and I have just finished my first video for my company that we plan to put on our website. The video uses 4 Video Tracks and 5 Audio Tracks. Currently I have the the video finalized and save in final cut pro. I would like to export the video to a wmv format (what the 3rd party video host is asking for) at 300 kb/sec rate.
    When I go to File>Export>Using Quicktime Conversion>
and change the format to WINDOWS MEDIA and hit save.. I get an error stop sign with an exclamation point saying 'Inconsistent Audio Sample Rate-- The media you are exporting contains audio with multiple sample rate'
What do I need to do to correct this so I can export it as a wmv?
Whoever can help thank you I am very VERY frustrated and need to get this done.
    Victoria
    Any help is appreciated.
Please email me too at [email protected]

I had this problem and it is a bug in the Flip4Mac program. They did fix the bug. You have to download a patch from Flip4Mac's web site. here is the e-mail they sent me:
    Dear Customer:
The recent release of QuickTime 7.2 created an audio compression error for Flip4Mac WMV Studio, Studio Pro and Studio Pro HD customers. Specifically, when encoding WMV files with Flip4Mac WMV v.2.1.2 using uncompressed audio sources on QuickTime 7.2 systems, customers were receiving "Inconsistent Audio Sample Rate" error and the encode will fail. This problem has been resolved with the beta release of Flip4Mac WMV v2.1.33. If you are using QuickTime 7.2, please upgrade to this release at http://www.flip4mac.com/wmv_beta.htm.
If you have any questions, please email us at [email protected]

  • IMovie HD (6.0.3) - Export Quality and Editing Question

Hi guys, i wanted to ask two questions. The first is that i wanted to export videos to upload onto YouTube and the best format for this seems to be the CD-ROM format that is available on the version i have, the only thing is my videos still appear low quality and pixellated even though i am editing good quality videos......i was wondering if i was doing anything wrong/or can do something better?
Also, when i am editing, can i place logos or maybe pictures onto the video e.g. with TV channels they have a logo at the corner of the screen. I also wanted to black out text on screen but i don't seem to be able to do that.
    Thanks a lot.

QuickTime has never supported anything more than "playback" of MPEG-1 formats and conversions to QuickTime formats will never include audio.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPEG-1 a "format" created a long time ago.
iMovie 7 can import and convert most MPEG-2 formats (DVD and HD media) and include audio. It also uses QuickTime for the work.
MPEG Streamclip does allow "batch" conversions. Do them while you sleep.

  • Concurrent report export using enterprise SDK question

    Hello,<br>
Our company uses Enterprise SDK to export report to PDF. We test our software using CR Server 2008 trial version. I am looking for advices for following questions:<br>
    1. As out testing server is trial version at the moment, it does not complain or generate any warning messages on numbers of concurrent users (we can only view current sessions and licenses from CMC). Could someone please let me know what will happen when full version CR server detects that max limit concurrent users access has reached? Will the server notify SDK, and SDK will generate exception; or the request will be queued until any other concurrent user end his session. <br>
    2. We implement an EJB to invoke SDK process. While EJB itself is thread safe, I am not quite sure if enterprise SDK is thread safe too. My assumption is that one SDK will be instantiated per JVM (like JRC?). It will issue a new thread to each report request (from EJB). Please correct me if I am completely wrong. <br>
    3. This is about licensing. Our scenario is there will be multiple (and concurrent) end users use our J2EE system, and may request report from CR server. Our J2EE system, however, will use one user account to login to CR server through enterprise SDK. In the other word, CR server will treat our J2EE system as one user (even if there are multiple or concurrent request). My question is that does it violate legal agreement with Business Object if I configure the user account our J2EE system uses as Named user?! If it is, we will get concurrent user licenses instead. Please advice. Thank you =)<br>
    Kind Regards,<br>
    mlie

    Hello Adam, <br>
Thanks for your reply. It is very helpful. <br>
As for point 1, what exact SDKException will SDK throw (e.g. SDKException.Unexpected)?<br>
In point 2, "There have been issues reported previously that only occur when using EJB's.". Is it possible to let me know what kind of issues they are? <br>
In point 3, as CMS supports Window AD authentication, and our system uses same mechanism to perform authentication, I guess the best strategy is to implement single sign on? Please advice. Thank you <br>
    Regards,<br>

  • Adding a RAID card to help speed up export (and other drive question) in Premiere Pro CC

First of all, I have read Tweakers Page exporting section because that is where my primary concern is. First my questions, then background and my current and proposed configurations:
Question 1: Will adding a hardware RAID controller, such as an LSI MegaRAID remove enough burden from the CPU managing parity on my software RAID 5 that the CPU will jump for joy and export faster?
Question 2: If true to above, then compare thoughts on adding more smaller SSDs for either a one volume RAID 0 or smaller two volume RAID 0 to complement existing HDD RAID 5. That is, I'm thinking of buying four Samsung 850 Pro 128 GB SSDs to put in a four disk volume to handle everything (media/projects, media cache, previews, exports), or split it up into two volumes of two disks each and split the duties, or keep the four disk volume idea and put the previews & exports on my HDD RAID 5 array.
The 850's are rated at SEQ read/write: 550/470 MB/s thus I could get around 2000/1500 MB/s read write in a four disk RAID 0 or 1/2 that if I split into two volumes to minimize volumes from reading/writing at the same time, if that really matters with these SSDs?
The Tweaker's page made a few comments. One is splitting duties among different disks, rather than a large efficient RAID may actually slow things down. Since the SSDs are much faster than a single HDD, I'm thinking that is no longer accurate, thus I'm leaning toward the Four disk configuration putting OS & Programs on C drive, Media & Projects on D (HDD RAID 5), Pagefile & Media Cache on SSD (2-disk RAID 0) and Previews &Exports on 2nd SSD RAID 0 (or combine the two RAID 0's and their duties).
Just trying to get a perspective here, since I haven't purchased anything yet. Any experience/stories, I would appreciate.
    My current drive configuration:
My D drive is software RAID 5 consisting of four 1 TB Western Digital RE4 (RED) 7200 RPM HDDs with a CrystalDiskMark SEQ Read/Write of 339/252 MB/s.
The C drive is SSD 500 GB (Samsung 840 (not Pro) and does 531/330 MB/s. My OS, Program Files and Page File are on C, and data/media files/project, etc all are on the RAID drive.
    Problem:
Current setup allows for smooth editing, only the exporting seems slow, often taking between two and two and a half times the video length to export. Thus a 10 minute video takes 20-30 minutes to export. 15 minute video can take 30-40 minutes to export. The first 10% of the two-pass export takes under a minute (seems fast), but it gets slower where the final 10 or 20% can hang for many minutes like my system is running out of steam. So where is the waste?
I have enabled hardware acceleration (did the GPU hack since my GPU isn't listed) and it may spike at 25% usage a few times and eat up 600 MB of VRAM (I have 2 GB of VRAM), otherwise it is idle the whole export. The CPU may spike at 50% but it doesn't seem overly busy either.
Our timeline is simple with two video streams and two audio streams (a little music and mostly voice) with simple transitions (jump cuts or cross dissolves). We sometimes fast color correct, so that might use the GPU? Also, since we film in 1080 60P and export 1080 29.97 frames/sec, I think that is scaling and uses the GPU. I know without the GPU, it does take a lot longer. I have ruled out buying a faster GPU since it doesn't appear to be breaking a sweat. I just need to know if my system is bottlenecked at the hard drive level because I'm using software RAID and my disks are slow and will hardware RAID significantly reduce the CPU load so it can export faster.
Our files are not huge in nature. Most our clips are several MBs each. Total project files are between 5 GBs and 10 GBs for each video with Windows Media File export being 500 MB to 1.2 GB on average. We shoot using Panasonic camcorders so the original files are AVCHD, I believe (.MTS files?).
    Considerations:
    1. I'm thinking of buying (and future proofing) an LSI Logic MegaRAID 9361-8i that is 12Gb/s SAS and SATA (because some current SSDs can exceed the 6Gb/s standard).
    2. I'm not replacing my current RAID 5 HDDs because not in my budget to upgrade to 6 or more large SSDs. These drives are more important to me for temporary storage because I remove the files once backed up. I don't mind a few inexpensive smaller SSDs if they can make a significant difference for editing and exporting.
I can only guess my HDD RAID is slow but the CPU is burdened with parity. I would imagine running RAID 10 would not help much.
    My setup:
    my setup:
    CPU - i7-3930K CPU @4.5 GHz
    RAM - G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3 2133 @2000
    Motherboard - ASUS P9X79 WS LGA 2011
GPU - Gigabyte GeForce GTX 660 OC 2GB (performed the compatibility list hack to enable hardware acceleration).
C drive - 500 GB Samsung 840 SSD (Windows 7 Pro 64 bit and programs).
D drive - four 1 TB WD RE4 Enterprise HDDs 7200 RPMs in software RAID 5
Case - Cooler Master HAF X
CPU Fan - Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO with 120 mm fan
Power Supply - Corsair Pro Series AX 850 Watt 80 Plus Gold
    Optical Drive - Pioneer BDR - 208DBK
    thanks in advance,
    Eric

........software RAID 5 off the motherboard ??????......NOT a good idea, from what I have read here on this forum from experts like Harm Millard and others. They have mentioned a LARGE overhead on the CPU doing this....causing sub-par performance. RAID 0 off the motherboard will NOT do this, however.....RAID 0 would provide optimum speed, but, with the risk of total data loss if ANY drive fails. You may wish to reconfigure your RAID to be RAID 0...BUT...you would need to DILIGENTLY back up its entire volume onto perhaps a quality 4TB drive very frequently.
A lot depends on the nature of your current and FUTURE codecs you plan to edit. You may not want to sink a lot of money into an older setup that may have trouble with more demanding future codecs. For now, in the 1080p realm, your rig should be OK....the read/write performance on your CURRENT RAID 5 setup is not great, and a definite drag on the performance. The rest of your components appear to be fine.....the Samsung SSD, though not ideal, is OK.....it's write speed is WAY lower than the Pro model, but, the drive is used mainly for reading operations. Since you have Windows 7 Pro, and NOT Windows 8.......you CAN put the entire windows page file onto the RAID 0 you might create.....this will take that frequent read/write load OFF the SSD. Read the "tweakers Page" to see how to best TUNE your machine. To use your current setup most efficiently, without investing much money, you would :a. create the RAID 0 off the motherboard, ( putting all media and project files on it )  b. install a quality 7200rpm 4TB HDD to serve as a BACKUP of the RAID array. Then, install a Crucial M550 256GB or larger SSD, ( close in performance to Samsung 850 Pro...much cheaper), to put all previews, cache , and media cache files on....AND to use as " global performance cache" for After Effects...if you use that program. Exporting can be done to ANOTHER Crucial M550 for best speed...or, just to the either the FIRST Crucial or, the 4TB drive. Your current GPU will accelerate exports on any video containing scaling and any GPU accelerated effects. Your CPU is STILL important in SERVING the data to and from the GPU AND for decoding and encoding non-GPU handled video....your high CPU clock speed helps performance there ! You may want to check out possibly overclocking your video card, using MSI Afterburner.or, similar free program. Increasing the "memory clock speed" can RAISE performance and cut export times on GPU effects loaded timelines,or, scaling operations. On my laptop, I export 25% faster doing this. With my NEW  i7 4700 HQ laptop, I export in the range of your CURRENT machine....about 2 to 3 times the length of the original video. PROPERLY SET UP...your desktop machine should BLOW THIS AWAY !!
Visit the PPBM7 website and test your current setup to possibly identify current bottlenecks,or, performance issues. THEN, RE-TEST it again, after making improvements to your machine to see how it does. Be aware that new codecs are coming (H.265 and HEVC,etc.) which may demand more computer horsepower to edit, as they are even MORE compressed and engineered for "streaming" high quality at a lower bandwidth on the internet. The new Haswell E...with its quad-channel memory, 8 core option, large number of PCI gen. 3 lanes, goes farther in being prepared for 4K and more. Testing by Eric Bowen has shown the newer PPro versions provide MUCH better processing of 4K than older versions.

  • Problem exporting AVI to WMV in Quicktime.

So I am putting together a powerpoint presentation for school but they have Vista computers, and my quicktime movie files and AVI files will not work because the school does not have quicktime on its computers. The only exported file through Quicktime that has worked is a WMV. However, somehow through the exportation process, the last half of the video gets cut off between being an AVI and going to a WMV.
What can I do to fix this?

Okay QuicktimeKirk. I found the problem, just not how to solve it. I looked through the guide and everything and nothing makes sense and i need these videos for a presentation tomorrow so I'm freaking out a little.
Here's the deal, I am on my vid, here are my steps:
    File>Export
Next to the Export dialog box, I pick Options...
On this page, the top says Flip4Mac Export Settings - Demo Version.
So, you were right, the problem is I have the demo version. But how do I change this page to go from Flip4Mac Export Settings - Demo Version TO Flip4Mac Studio Export Settings?
I downloaded everything to my computer, entered the serial number, and installed everything.
What is the next step to fix this mess?

  • EDL Exporting and Importing 101 - Questions

We are testing Premiere's EDL exporting and importing capabilities for the first time, and are having issues. We set up a very simple test project with only 13 clips and a timeline with only 10 edits. This is what it looks like:
    http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/760/j00s.jpg
We then exported an EDL, started a new Premiere project, and imported the EDL that we had created. It looks like this:
    http://imageshack.us/scaled/landing/32/6hd9.jpg
In the bin, Premiere has now turned our 13 clips into 41. There are a lot of duplicates, some of them appear to be audio files, even though they're still listed as .mxf, and the start and end times are all over the place. Our two questions are: Why is it making all of these clips? And how do you link the media? We started linking some media manually, but because the start and end times are scrambled, the edits appear completely wrong in the sequence that we've created.

There are a variety of options offered when exporting an EDL.
These options need to be considered in conjunction with how the Sequence (audio/video layers) are set up. (managed for the edl export)
Source footage management is vital in any EDL workflow and even more so when digital clip based ( as opposed to tape based linear assets).  ie. Digital clips have "unusual" filenames and are buried deep in folder structures. Filenames can be duplicated in a card to cards system. (mxf would be an exception)
The EDL is usually used between systems.
In your case  you are testing on the same system and assumeably the source footage resides there as well.  This is a case for managing the "source" so as the links work.
Example. When I take footage to a Resolve Suite out of house.  I set up all the source footage on an transfer drive in the same manner ( filenames, folder names etc) as the original local drive .

  • Exporting movies to wmv files

Trying to export short movies into wmv files. After I create the file through Expert Settings and choosing wmv, I open the file and it is only 30 seconds long. The original file in iMovie is 3 minutes long. I have tried other movies and even saved them as MOV's and they all are only 30 seconds after exporting as well. Is there a setting that I am not seeing that is defaulting to 30 seconds for the length? How do I change it so the exported movie is as long as the original in iMovie? Thanks!!

I purchsed the Studio version and it works fine now. Thanks for the help. One issue I do see is that I can't change the size of the movies while exporting as WMV files. Before I upgraded I was able to choose the size of the movie I wanted to export, now that is all greyed out. Is there a reason for that?

  • Exporting mp4 to WMV - only 30 seconds transfers

I am a new QT Pro user (version 7).
I need to convert some files to WMV. I have several files normally in the range of 2 minutes each. When I convert the file to WMV the clip only ends up being 30 seconds long.
    Any ideas / thoughts?

The trial mode of the Flip4Mac component only allows 30 second exports to WMP formats.
http:flip4mac.com and purchase one of the upgrades for this third party software.
WMP exports are not part of the standard QuickTime install and are only enabled by that third party software.
