Extending an animated slide's length

We have several lessons with some animated slides (full
motion captures
of scrolling application windows).
The client decided that the scrolling is too fast and wanted
it slowed
down. Unfortunately, simply extending the animation on the
timeline
doesn't seem to have any effect - the animation plays at its
original
rate, then just sticks on the last frame of that animation
for the
duration of the slide.
So our workaround is to export the animation itself to Flash,
adjust the
framerate, publish as a SWF, and import it back into the CP
file. The
result is a little 'jumpy' but seems to work well enough.
Any other solutions to this particular issue? Just wondering
if there
are other approaches. If not, then just adding this for
future reference.

I actually have a lot of other buttons that manipulate the displaying of the array in various ways. I thought about creating a much larger array, but this would break all the functionality I have for displaying next, previous, last, items in the array. Then your functionality is incorrect. You should have a variable that keeps track of how many items are stored in the array. This will always allow you to access the last element. And when this variable reaches the size of the array only then do you increase the size of the array.
I agree, I think this is exactly my issue, unfortunately I do not know where to go from here. Is there a way for me to recreate the Item array entirely, rather than having a local array to the addbutton action method?I already showed you how to fix your problem. Delete your line of code and replace it with mine.

JJMack covers some possibilities, predicated on the embedded player in your Web site.
You might want to look at another pair of Adobe programs, that work well together: Adobe Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements. They are available in a bundle, and, if you do not have Photoshop Extended (up through CS 5.5), or Ps CS 6, or Ps CC, they cost MUCH less.
One can create the SlideShow in the Organizer (sort of like Bridge, but with some differences), then can Send to Premiere Elements for final editing, such as the addition of Narration, or a Soundtrack. From PrE, one can then output to many, many different formats for linking to the player on the Web site.
Now, if you have Ps Extended, Ps CS 6, or Ps CC already, you have video-editing capabilities, but some of the output options (and even Import options), will be limited.
If searching for a program (or bundle of programs), then the Elements duo will do exactly what you need. Also, both of those programs have their own, very active forums, so you will have two communities to offer you support.

  • Animation slides skip content in published flash

    Dear helpers and experts,
I may be new to Captivate, but have worked with all its
    predecessors...
My simple demonstration consists of 6 slides:
    a text slide;
    an animation slide built from an avi file (123 sec);
    a text slide;
    an animation slide built from an avi file (23 sec);
    a text slide;
an animation slide built from an avi file (165 sec)
When previewing all content is shown. Then I publish (export
HTML). The viewed flash skips the end of all animation slides: from
the first only 107 sec are displayed, from the second only 10
seconds, from the third only 110 seconds are displayed.
To be precise on the previw: it is the Play button on the
timeline where everything is played - not "Play this Slide" in the
Preview button - which creates a temporary flash file.
With uncompressed Flash it's the same problem.
    What went wrong here?

I have now found the source of my problem:
There is a difference whether I insert via
    1) Insert > Slide > Animated Slide - or
    2) Insert > Blank Slide; and then in the blank slide:
    Insert > Animation
In case 2 I get the dialog "New Animation" where I can set
options. In case 1 this dialog does not show up and with Slide
Properties the desired option can not be set.
The desired option to cure the problem is "Synchronize with
    Project".
The Help text concerning this option "Select this option to
synchronize the speed at which the animation file plays with the
Timeline speed. (If you find that the animation file is not playing
smoothly, test with this option selected and cleared to see which
setting gives you better results.)" did not trigger my brain at
first, because when playing the animation (imported avi) in the
TImeline it is displayed correctly with or without this option.
Hence: if the final flash file skips the end of imported
animations (eg avi) and jumps to early to the next slide:
    - Import the animation into a blank slide (do not import via
Insert > Slide > Animated Slide)
    - Set the option "Synchronize with project" in the "New
    Animation" dialog

  • How can I make a slideshow of animated slides in Edge?

I've watched Paul Trani's great tutorial on making an interactive slideshow of images in which people can click through the images (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teYOHY5bGyk) and I've made a nice slideshow.
But I now want to make a slideshow just like that but use animated Edge compositions instead of JPEGs or PNGs for the slides that will play when that slide appears . . . does anyone know how to do this?
Thank you so much for your help!

Erin, most of Pauls tutorial demonstrations ave source files available for download.

  • Captivate 4 does not show imported PPT animated slide in Branching View

    Hi Captivate Users & Gurus,
I've imported an animated PowerPoint slide into a Captivate 4 project. There are 9 slides altogether in the project and the imported slide is number 3. My issue is that once the project plays (in Preview) it only goes from Slide 1 -> Slide 2 automatically. (It's set to show for a specific amount of time)
The problem is, after the time period it should move automatically to the next slide, however It won't proceed to Slide 3 UNLESS I put a "next button in for the user to click on.
The Branching View shows Slide 1 and Slide 2... but Slides 3-9 don't show up at all. (I've attached an image of the Branching View) If I add "next" buttons to those slides then they show up in the Branching View, but ideally we want for the project to play without having the user click to move forward.
In the TOC, all the slides are recognized just fine - any idea why Captivate can't link these slides up to continue automatically? Does the imported animated PPT need to be tweaked somehow for Captivate to see it?
Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated - it's basically driving me nuts!
    Thanks in advance,
    Aarti

    Hi Kerry,
I think the earlier issue in this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/1944947#1944947 may solve this problem as well.
I think I was doing it backwards by setting the time on the slide properties rather than the object properties (video or otherwise). Once I implemented your suggestion for the thread mentioned above the Branching View now shows all 9 slides! Which is a huge step up from what I was seeing earlier.
    *testing now*
I just tested to see whether the project plays through from Slide 1 -> video slide -> animated PPT -> Next slide in course without having to use next buttons and it played through perfectly. I may just set the next button to show up after the video plays/ animated ppt plays so the slides are consistent visually.
    Thanks once again!

  • Max Slide/Project Length?

Hello. I have a project that is VERY long (2 hours). I have one slide with a slide video that lasts 1352 seconds a/k/a 22 min and 32 seconds.
is there a max length per slide as well as per project? I'm having issues getting past 999 seconds. PLEASE HELP!
    Thanks,
    Mike

Sorry to disappoint, but there is no simple answer here. It all comes down to your encoding settings. You know H.264 vs. MPEG 2, data rates and all that... Can be 2 hours, can be considerably more if you want it to...

  • Matching slide transition lengths to audio track

I have a number of still photos that I want to run through starting and ending with a predefined audio track
Is there any way (other than trial and error) of adjusting the clip lengths so that they fit the audio?
In any case, when I try to adjust all the lengths with the clip editor and tick 'applies to all slides' it randomly assigns some lengths more or less around the number I choose (e.g. if I chose 3.2 sec - all appear to be between 3 and 3.4 sec, but many are different. I don't have snap to beat or anything on

The way transitions work is to borrow half the frames needed from the clip right before it and half from the clip right behind it. If some of your transitions are longer than this, it must add same frames. Also some transitions appear to need more frames than others.
Having said that, there is a way to get close, and you can fine-tune by trail and error. The trick is to convert everything to a common denominator, and for movies, that would be frames.
Since your name implies you live in Europe, I will give a PAL example at 25 frames per second.
    Let's say you have an audio track that is 3 minutes and 23 seconds long. This would be (3 minutes x 60 seconds/minute x 25 frames/second) + (23 seconds x 25 frames per second) = 4500 frames + 575 frames = 5075 frames.
Now let's say you have 69 photos in your movie. Then each slide would need 73.55 frames. You cannot have .55 frames so round up to 74 frames per photo. You can enter the 74 as the duration, or you can convert it back to time as 2 seconds and 24 frames.
Note: if you are not seeing frames, but are seeing tenths of seconds, go into imovie Preferences and check "Display Time as hh:mm:ss:frames"
Another way to do this that can be very effective is to use the Beat Marker Feature of iMovie, and leave out transitions all together. Here is a [sample from Ian Parkinson|http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Crs1Mx92js]

  • Exporting Animated Slides for widescreen - Best format for export?

I need to build a looping video to be played on a bunch of flat-screen TV's mounted to a trade-show booth. I'm guessing I need to build it for wide-screen - 16.9 ratio?
I used iMovie to build a simple video of images panning in and out. When I go to export, I can use the simple option of Share and if I choose their large option it exports as 950x540. That didn't seem right so I used the export to QuickTime and have selected the NTSC 720x480 16:9 Option.
Is this going to give me the best playback after I turn it into a DVD for playback?
    Thanks.

When I go to export, I can use the simple option of Share and if I choose their large option it exports as 950x540.
Actually, it should be saying 960x540 which is a 16:9 aspect ratio.
That didn't seem right so I used the export to QuickTime and have selected the NTSC 720x480 16:9 Option.
If you plan to turn it into a standard DVD for playback in a commercial DVD player, then it makes no difference as long as the iMovie project is setting the anamorphic flag correctly. Authoring the DVD will automatically convert the input file to an encode matrix of 720x480 no matter what its current physical dimensions may be. Further the authoring application will also not and set the DVD anamorphic flag to match your iMovie project (as long as the flag is not lost) so the playback device will know how the display the 720x480 data encode on the DVD.
Is this going to give me the best playback after I turn it into a DVD for playback?
Hard to tell. You neglected to mention the size and codec for the source content, or the compression format used in your "Export Using QuickTime" work flow. Passing the data through the work flow at is highest possible data rate and letting the final MPEG-2 compressor do the final scaling at the appropriate data rate (determined by length and your choice of option) probably produces the best results.

  • How do I make an animated slide show that looks like pages of a scrapbook turning?

I am learning CS6 to make a website for the summer camp I run.  On the main page I want a scrapbook that will open and show pictures of the kids having fun... how can I do this??

Take a look at FlippingBook, which is an extremely good application. This is also not Flash based so works in all devices.
    http://flippingbook.com
You would need to create it as a standalone page and then add an iFrame to the page you want it displayed on to have it inside your web page template.
An easier way and maybe more versatile would be to just have a gallery on your page and animate it with CSS3. This is an example.

  • Editing Animation Slides

I just recorded my first movie in Captivate 3.  Due to PII standards, I need to edit the screenshots captured so real customer and employee information is not shown.  Can this be done and if so, how do I get the images captured to copy so I can transfer them to an editing program such as Photoshop or Paint?

    Hi there
It depends on how you captured the data.
Often there is no need to edit in a third party application. If you captured using the normal screen-by-screen capture, you can insert a Highlight Box object, cover the information and merge it into the background to obliterate the information. Then layer in a Transparent Text Caption to provide fictitious information if you like.

  • Animation Length Increases when added to a slide

    Here is my problem.
I have an animation in my library. When I edit this animation with the FMR Editor the length of this animation is 38 seconds. However when I go to add this animation to a slide, the length of the animation in the slide is increased to 115 sec. I don't know why this is happening. Can someone please help me?
    Thanks.

I've figured out what my problem was.
I had changed the Frames Per Second from 30 down to 10. I had to change the Frame rate back to 30, re-record my new slides then add them back in.
    Thanks.

  • White frame in between Captivate slide and imported animation

    Hi,
I created a simple movie in Flash. But when I import it into
an animation slide, there is a white frame that appears before the
animation begins. I don't see it when I look at the animation in
Flash. I don't see it when I preview each slide. I've checked all
slide settings and image settings - all set to "No transition" so
no "fade in or out" to blame. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Additional information: In the Flash forums, this appears to
be refered to as a "white flash," but I don't see any references to
how to fix it when used with Captivate.
    Trudie

Hi. Anyone get a weird (0.2 sec or so) "white
frame" (kind of a white "blink") between clips
(in my case, between two still photos with a music
track) that won't go away? I've tried to delete the
clips and re-add them, but can't seem to get rid of
    it.
I got that blank frame also last night between 2 still photos with music in the background. Also tried to re-import the two photos but the blank frame still remains. *****, but you're not alone.

  • Keynote: duplicale slide after moving animations?

    Hello,
I've a problem: I use keynote to make animations, but when I have a moving animation on a object I want in the duplicated slide of it the objectto be at the end of its moving animation, but it's in its starting position again.
    Confusing?
    A ---> B
In slide #1 I want an object to move from A to B.
But if I duplicate slide #1, I want the object to be on position B,
so you won't see a difference from the end of slide #1 and the beginning of the duplicated version of it.
    Please respond,
    Isaiah

    Hi imgaryshap,
I am having the exact same problem you post time ago and I am wondering if you finally find a way to get/copy the post-animation slide.
