ExtendScript and CMS

Is the FrameMaker CMS functionality exposed to ExtendScript? If so, is there any documentation or sample scripts available? Thanks in advance.

Configuring NWDI and CMS

Hi,
We did a Development portal installation (DEV) with NMDI and finished the DI post installation in the DEV system and configured my SLD in solution manager. Now we are going to install Portal Quality system (QAD) with NWDI. I need some documents after installing QAD system, like DI post installation and CMS configuration from quality to development system. I mean to say that, DEV as a Domain controller and QAD to include in that CMS. Before doing the DI post installation in QAD, do I need to change the Domain data of change management in Quality like CMS name, CMS url, CMS user, password, trans dir, Domain ID(if so,Can we change this ID to DEV), DTR url, CBS url. If so, do I need to give the datau2019s of Development system? or how to configure my quality system CMS to development system CMS. I found some links but there is no link that says about the configuration in development.

While defining Software Component, I created a Build Time Dependency on these components and chosen SAP-JEE, SAP_BUILDT and SAP_JTECHS components.
While defining a Track under Domain in CMS (Landscape Configuration) i am not getting these dependent components under my SC.
So after adding SC to my track, i again Defined Dependencies on my SC. Now i can see these components under my SC but gives warning that "SC Dependencies are different but accepted by synchronization" and status of SC is yellow.
Please suggest.

Tomcat and CMS on Different Hosts

Hi,
We have to install Tomcat ( Server1) , CMS (Server2) and CMS DB (Server3) on three different hosts on a clustered Environment.
In our case, CMS Database is on Diff host. But, when i try to install Web Tier (Tomcat) on Server2, It is looking for CMS Host.
And If want to install CMS without Web Tier (Tomcat), CMS wont start without Web Server..
What should i install first and how can configure..it looks like both are needed and i want them in a Seperate Host ?
Please throw some light on how this can be done in a clustered environment...Thanks.

My assumption is that if we have an existing Tomcat server already installed ( not the one comes with BOE package ),
we can install BOE on Server2 and stop tomcat later..But, this Webtier (Tomcat) on Server1 needs to be pointed to CMC which is already running on Server2
Eventhough I have already instralled BOE without Web Tier on Server2, It wouldn't allow me install Web Tier (Tomcat) on Server1 which needs to have CMS Host pointed while installation..
Without CMC in Server2 (I couldn't make sure CMS is running and working ) I tried with CMS Host name (Server2) for Web Tier (Tomcat) installation on Server1, But, It wouldn't start..
So, I Installed complete BOE with WebTier on Server2 and then Installed Tomcat on Server1 which can be used for Server2 as webserver now..
My Understanding is that server1 web tier should be installed standalone,Here it is not working because it is customised for BOE which needs to be pointed to CMS while installation..

Works in ExtendScript and not in Script Panel [JS, CS3]

I've adapted the FindChangeByList script to work with a particular page.
The trouble is a couple of text boxes need to be removed entirely.
So I've included the lines:-

... then the script gets down to doing the changes prescribed by the list

When I run the script in ExtendScript the boxes vanish as intended.
But when I run it from the InDesign scripts panel, the text frames stay where they are and their contents get changed along with the contents of the other text frames.
I've alt clicked the script in the scripts panel to make sure I've got the right script. It's one of those head-scratchy-am-I-going-dafter affairs.

After testing the box deletion part in the scripts panel and thus checking that it wasn't the culprit, I saved the box deleter script and the specialised FindChangeFromList script in the InDesign Scripts folder (so they don't appear in the Scripts Panel) and wrote an Applescript which does two "do scripts". When run from the scripts panel this script does the job. Inelegant, I know, but ours is not to reason why, ours is to get it working.

Best Practise for multiple SLDs and CMS

      We are planning on our XI Landscape, can you guide me to best practices document or weblogs on where it answers my following points.
We are planning to have DEV - QA - PROD XI Boxes. We are planning to implement CMS. What is the optimal approach, pros and cons of each approach.
1) Installing one central SLD which would be either on DEV or QA box. CMS also installed on the same box.
2) Installing two SLDs
    i) one on Dev Box. CMS on Dev Box sharing SLD
    ii) second SLD on QA box which is shared by PROD box which will be the SLD used for production.
<i><b>I would be happy to see responses with any existing landscapes which are being implemented by you guys in case of CMS also in picture.</b></i>

Hi,
In my project we have maitained 2 SLD one for Production landscape and one for non-Production landscape. However the High Availability scenario is available in 7.1 but it is not there in release 7.0.
In case of release 7.0 you have to follow the following procedure to have the similar (HA) kind of scenario:
1). In case of ABAP and dual stack go to SLDAPICUST and maitain two entries for SLD with proper host name, port number and PIAAPLUSER detail.
Make one entry as Primary.
Also if JAVA stack is also there then go to Admin tool and maintain the detail in "HTTP Setting" of the "SLD Data Service" with the data of the primary SLD just maintained above through SLDAPICUST.
2). In case of only JAVA stack maitain the detail in "HTTP Setting" of the "SLD Data Service" with the data of the primary SLD.
Note--Here there is no option to maintain two SLD server details.
3). Now Login to ABAP/+JAVA stack server at the SAP GUI level and check the connection by executing SLDCHECK command. If it works fine then do the following:
     a). Now to make your two SLD in sync login to SLD with Admin user having write access to LCR (e.g. PISUPER, j2ee_admin in case of ABAP+JAVA or "administrator" user in case of JAVA stack) and go to Administration->Data Suppliers->Add SLD.
Here you have to add the other SLD detail in the form of "http://<servername>:<j2eeport>/, with SLDDSUSER ID detail. This will make both the SLD in sync to each other.
Note--Make sure that the password for all the user mentioned above is same in both the SLD otherwise it would cause an error.
   b). Also take the full export of your primary SLD by going through "Administartion->Export" and Import it in your secondary SLD. This will make both the SLD in sync with each other initialy and you won't get any error when both SLD tried to sync automaticaly.
4). In the case when one SLD is down then make the other SLD primary through the transaction "SLDAPICUST", RZ70 and by logging through Admin tool. Check your setting through the transaction SLDCHECK.
Note--In RZ70 you have only one option and you can maitain only one SLD detail at a time. So whenever there is a problem in one SLD make sure that you have make the changes in RZ70 as well with the new detail of the SLD.

Crystal Reports - WCS (Web Component Server) and CMS login confusion

I reinstalled the WCS after trying to restart the various servers/services for Crystal and having the Event ID 34400:
-Original Problem-
The description for Event ID ( 34400 ) in Source ( Crystal_WebConnector ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: assert failure in file (Y:\backend\WebAppServer\wsconnector\src\isapi\workerpool.cpp) at line 94. (false : Request failed with code 3 and error message Communication failed with all configured Web Component Servers because they are disabled or not currently running. If this problem continues, please contact the system administrator.)..
-Current Problem (after uninstalling and reinstalling WCS - yuck)-

Is it definitely the same username and password on the right box as used in the left box? I don't know what the password is (and have asked a colleague but received no response yet). The CMS is running on the same computer as the WCS so I was hoping not to have to authenicate via WindowsNT/Enterprise/LDAP (the 3 options).
So.. I'm sorry for the ramble but I've made a problem worse trying to fix it and am not sure where to go from here.

FrameMaker 8, webdav, and cms

My company needs to run FrameMaker 8 via a Webdav service. Is a CMS required? If so, is there an open source CMS that works well with Frame?

If you can produce PDFs from the AdoebPDF via ID and AI by printing, then I'd suspect that the driver is probably ok. (Note: from ID and AI, it is better to SaveAs PDF, since these have their own internal PDF generation capabilities.)
Also, with FM8, if you're making interactive PDFs (i.e. not for press), then it is ok to do the SaveAsPDF route, since FM has some post-processing modules that kick in to clean-up the .tps file prior to handing it over to Distiller. So, the process is no longer is identical to printing to file and distilling.
On the FM side, make sure that the tagged PDF setting is turned off in your PDF setup and have the setting for generating named destinations for all paragraphs enabled.
You also might want to download Sundorne's SetPrint ( http://www.sundorne.com/FrameMaker/Freeware/setPrint.htm ) utility to ensure that you always have the same printer instance (AdobePDF) enabled when you start FM.
Have you also applied the MS hotfix for the PDF font issues? Details are available here: http://blogs.adobe.com/techcomm/2008/07/hotfix_for_framemaker_1.html
Last desperation move would be to create a new custom PDF printer instance using the Distller PPD and a copy of the AdobePS installer.

Upgrade SP09 to SP14 SLD and CMS configuration lost

Hi all,
I have upgraded the Java Infrastructure successfully, but I had to reconfigure the SLD (object server etc.) as well as the CMS track information in order to get the Infrastructure working again. Luckyly I only had a test track with test components set up otherwise I assume I would have lost my work.
Is this supposed to happen? I can't imagine that this is the way an upgrade for a development infrastructure should work. Somehow the configuration data should be stored and reimported after the upgrade.
Maybe I missed something during the upgrade regarding the preserving of the configuration data.
Has anyone made the same/a better experience during the JDI upgrade?
Any input is greatly appreciated.

Metadata Management and CMS

I have installed BO XIR 3.1 sp3 and Metadata Mangement on a window 2008 sp2 platform. Everything was going well. After a server problem I had to redeploy the Metadata Manager and BOMM apps on tom Cat (5.5).
After the redeployment of the two apps, the BOMM console worked well but it's impossible to view Metadata Management in the cms. Here's the message that I get:
http 404 and :
MetadataManagement/jsp/Integrator_List/list.faces
When I try to configure the repository via the application options of the cms here's what I get:
http 404 :
Management/jsp/Repository_Properties/properties.faces
Do I have to redeploy? refresh a property file ? copy a war file?

The current architecture is:
PeopleSoft -> SAP ECC -> SAP BI -> BOE -> WebI
We are trying to perform mappings from field names on reports in WebI back to their SAP BI technical name / description, and even into ECC if possible. I was able to run Metadata Integrator in DS to collect lineage information from the BOE server, but this doesn't give me anything further back than BOE. I assumed that I would need to add the remaining steps manually, yet it sounds like you have a better idea.
How can we go about doing this? Are you saying that if I use:
SAP ECC -> DS -> SAP BI -> BOE -> WebI
Then it will show my lineage from WebI all the way to ECC automatically? Do you have any examples of this? If that is the case, then I would like to test it out.

I would suggest you supply some more detailed information ie.

pages? ecommerce? Lots of animation required?
As to how to learn, ask lots of questions and buy a good book
on HTML and

make up for a
knowledge of hand coding.
A good start are the templates supplied by Dreamweaver and by
Projectseven.com, try to grasp how and why things are done
and move from
there.
Both this and projectseven forums are good and full of
helpful people

Requesting thoughts on Documentum, Sharepoint, and CMS with FrameMaker

My company is considering getting a CMS to be used with structured FrameMaker. We now have version 9 but willing to upgrade to version 10. I know that version 10 has the ability to connect to Documentum and Sharepoint.
I would like to know others' experiences with FrameMaker and a CMS...any CMS.
At the present, we work from shared drives, copying all imported illustrations (eps) by reference.
A few years ago I worked at a company that had Documentum. At that time, the writers had to check out all the illustrations and the Frame files to their desktops, copy the illustrations in by reference, make the PDF, and then check all back into Documentum. At the time, the rule was that one could not link to files within Documentum, only file on the desktop.
So, I am wondering if the above is still true. Moreover, how do others handle the need to link to illustration files that are in the CMS without (if at all) checking them all out. We create large manuals (200-300 pages) with many illustrations that are used in multiple manuals.
Any thoughts about Documentum, Sharepoint, or any other CMS is appreciated. I am not looking for dissertations on the subject, just indications whether it can be done and if not, how it is done.

ExtendScript and Socket Servers

Question 1)
I'm trying to run a stable socket server within After Effects. Could someone tell me if running the SocketServer in ExtendScript Toolkit and sending messages via BridgeTalk is the best way to do this? I was looking into the InDesign Server platform, and I'm curious if that might make a more stable SocketServer platform to send messages to AE via the BridgeTalk messaging API. Any thoughts?

Is there anyway to access the BridgeTalk messaging API or get an SDK to allow me to send messages with a different application, such as Luxology Modo, or node.js as a socket server? My good people of Adobe, might you provide us access to the BridgeTalk API? I'll send brownies.
Question 3)
Is running a script (such as the aforementioned socket server) from within ExtendScript IDE a bad idea? Seems like it is. I'm not sure how to launch it automatically (similar to the way you can put scripts in the Application startup items folder).

I am the engineer who currently knows the most about BridgeTalk.
In regards to your questions: If you want to communicate with other Adobe products on the same machine then BridgeTalk would probably be my first choice. If you have to communicate over the network, or with non-Adobe products, or AIR applications then using your own socket server might be a better choice. You cannot use BridgeTalk with applications that haven't integrated the BridgeTalk client library (in other words Luxology Modo and node.js won't work).
You'll find a lot of information about the Socket and BridgeTalk classes in the JavaScript Tools Guide CS4:

Running scripts from the ExtendScript IDE is a great idea if you are developing your script and if you need to debug your code. You have to make sure that the target popup shows the application that the script is intended to run. Most Adobe applications allow you to hook up client scripts into the menu. For example, if you place an ExtendScript script "MyScript.js" in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Presets\Scripts on Windows Photoshop will create a menu item under File/Scripts/MyScript. I am not sure whether After Effects supports the same feature. In general I would not add code to startup scripts, because startup scripts are being executed each time a script is being processed.
