F4480 Vista Laptop to XP Server

I have a Vista laptop. I installed an F4480 to the XP desktop and shared the printer.  Printing from the XP desktop no problem.  Trying to print from the laptop is a hit or miss proposition.  Microsoft Word declares the printer non-responsive and then refuses any attempts therafter to try to print to it.  Other programs are hit or miss, with no responses or timeouts and print jobs appraently in limbo.  What's wrong?
I am one step away from never buying HP again.  Shared printers is not rocket science anymore.  My old Epson is better at it.  The only reason I switched to the HP was I ran out of ink for the Epson.  That one step is a no response to this post, which seems to be a normal thing, given the few checkmarks saying solved.

The test user make it so when you sync your TX it will import your username and all the apps, data, and settings from that device to your netbook. You can remove the test user once the device is done syncing and you have your data.
When you install Palm Desktop it requires that you have a username. Sometimes if you pick the same username it says you cannot sync to this PC. Created the test username bypasses this.

Vista laptop sees printers on xp server network but won't let me connect telling me "access denied" and "you do not have sufficient rights to perform this operation". What's up with this?

Yes, getting XP and Vista to share correctly is no small feat.  I don't think you have a printer, printer software or driver problem.  I think you have a Windows sharing problem.  Have you googled for solutions in other areas?  Microsoft's forums?
I was able to help someone else yesterday with this post (and some of their ingenuity as well).  Maybe it will help.

  • SSRS Report Manager does not open on Vista Business Edition machine - Server Error in '/Reports' Application

    Hi
    Thank you for your support.
I have a Vista laptop that cannot connect to Report Manager URL. Same Windows account on an XP machine works just fine.
Note: - Reporting Services is not installed on Vista machine , this is a client that connects to a SQL Server 2008 R2 and Reporting server instance.
On Vista workstation, I tried diabling UAC, tried Run As, added trusted sites, other browsers, IP/FQDN/name changes in URL. - no change.

    Hi Macca,
Per my understanding that you got the error message when access the report manager in the client vista machine which have't install the reporting services instance and access to the Windows XP machine works fine, right?
I assumed that you have installed the Reporting Services instance in this WIndows XP machine, Could you please check in the third machine with the vista os to see if you will got the same error message.
The issue can be caused by many factors:
If the third machine can connect to the report manager remotely, the issue can be caused by this vista machine.

If the other machine also can't access the report manager, the issue caused by some configuration not correct for the remote connection(https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms156305.aspx)
If you are using Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, you must configure Report Manager for local administration, please check to make sure the "Service Account" is the domain/user account which exists in the local administrator group.

  • WRT54G v8 works with 2 iphones, 1 xp laptop, not vista laptop

Got a WRT54G v8, upgraded firmware to v8_8.00.5.002, power cycled everything. Tried WEP & WPA-personal in wireless security setting. Wireless connection showed up as "Connected", 4 bars. Sometimes it showed Connected with Limited Connectivity. It used to be "Connected to security-enabled network" with my old wireless router. My 2 iphones and another XP laptop both work, all able to access wirelessly without any problem. Wired connection to my vista laptop also works. only wireless to the vista laptop not working. I setup everything (via 192.168.1.1) on my Vista HP laptop. Did I need to update anything on my vista laptop? please HELP.

okay. I just had a chat on linksys online-chat for an hour. The technician walked me through, and finally fixed the problem. The key was not to let Vista detect IP automatically on the wireless connection. 1) go to 192.168.1.1, go to Status tab, copy down the DNS 1/2/3 addresses 2) Start->Ctrl Panel->Network Sharing->Manage network connection a) right click Wireless network connection->properties b) select TCP IP V4, properties c) specify IP addr manually IP addr: 192.168.1.20 subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 default gateway: 192.168.1.1 d) specify DNS server address manually type in 2 DNS addresses you copied earlier hit OK 3) restart computer 4) reconnect to wireless network.

  • How can i set up a Vista Laptop to be controled by ARD?

    Hi
I looked around and only found some info on using free VNC, but i still can not get the hang of how to set up my laptop with Vista to enable ARD to see it,
I have a iMac with Leopard with ARD, a MBP 17 and a HP Laptop, i used Airport xtream, but i can not even see the machines connected to it to get the IP to connect via ARD.
Any Advise would be appreciated, thanks

Your iMac with ARD... this is the bona fide, ($300/$500) "Remote Desktop.app" admin install, or do you mean that you have ARD "Remote Management" access enabled or have tried to control Vista with Microsoft's similarly-named "[Remote Desktop Connection|http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/remote-desktop/default.mspx]" app? (Just making sure—it would be a very different conversation otherwise.)
Remote Desktop does lots of fancy stuff, but for the Observe and Control mechanisms it behaves as a plain-jane VNC client. It can connect to any standards-compliant VNC server. You should, for example, be able to run a different VNC client on your Mac and have a similar success/failure experience; perhaps the excelent [Chicken of the VNC|http://sourceforge.net/projects/cotvnc>. If you have the same failures, we'll still help, but ARD is obviously not the culprit. In any case, the usual suspects for windows VNC servers include UltraVNC, realVNC \[paid ver. required for vista\], and TightVNC. They all have caviats, but they're fairly well documented. Vista itself throws VNC under the bus "in favor of security" but again, you'll find lots of users in the same boat; unable to get the VNC server working on the Vista side. Your statement that you "couldn't even see the machines connected to it to get the IP" was bit confusing though, as devices don't need to be running a VNC server to at least show up in a scan (IP printers should appear, for example). Are you sure they're on the same subnet of the same lan/being otherwise scanned for correctly; or if remote, are you sure the remote Vista laptop is directly addressable with NAT from the web?
Let us know. Good luck. Joel

  • New FIOS router, VIsta Laptop Cannot Access Internet

I too have the new FIOS router with 75/35 speed.  I have just been trying to install the router and have been successful in getting wifi connected on two devices (Win 7 laptop and Kindle), but I cannot get my Vista laptop to access the internet.  It shows the wifi being connected but no internet connection.
Does this have something to do with the Vista OS?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Anyone at Verizon who is paying attention would realize this problems is many years old with no solution.  People are literally begging for help in dozens of online forums, to no avail (Google search usually provides me results faster than any tech support).  I have the exact same issue.  All my wireless devices connect to the internet through the Verizon MI424WR router with no problem.  My Vista laptop connects just fine via Ethernet cable, but not the wireless.  I can make a wireless connection to the router, and the router admin page shows it is, in fact, connected, but absolutely NO connection to internet is possible.
BTW, the laptop had no problem for years connecting to the internet via a Linksys WRT54G connected to Verizon DSL.
All that the troubleshooting "guide" provides is the usual basic "plug in, turn off, turn on, reset" nonsense that might help only those who can't stop their VCR clock from blinking.
So please, Verizon, bump this up to a FAQ (because it is VERY frequently asked), and help us find a solution.

  • Trying to Home share an itunes library from Vista laptop to Windows 8 laptop

Alright, so both laptops have been setup the same, home sharing turned on, exact same apple id and password. Both computers can see each other in the dropdown menu for "library",  HOWEVER, while the Vista laptop can see & import the library from the Windows 8 laptop, then Windows 8 laptop cannot see & therefore not import the library from the Vista laptop & out of the system without issue, the router has been checked to ensure that nothing is standing in the way on that end either. Is this some sort of backwards incompatibility? Or am I overlooking something  obscenely obvious? Any and all help is welcome, I have looked at a large number of discussions here and throughout the web already, nothing seems to work for my situation. Please help!!!

    Hello there MicknMadd,
It sounds like one of your computers can see the others library and import from it, but the other does not. You've done a lot of great troubleshooting and verification already, and I would recommend steps 5-7 from the following article to help further troubleshoot:
    Troubleshooting Home Sharing
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2972
    5. Check Firewall settings
If you have a firewall enabled in your router or computer, make sure that the firewall is not blocking communication between your computers. Home Sharing uses TCP port 3689 and UDP port 5353 to communicate with shared iTunes libraries.
In addition, Apple TV and Mac computers will use port 123 to set the time automatically. Incorrect date and time on either the computer or Apple TV can cause errors for Home Sharing and connections in general.
If you are unsure whether your router has a firewall or the required ports open, test additional devices or another network to help isolate the issue. If the devices tested work on another home network, it is your router or network configuration.
For Mac OS X, you don't have to edit the port addresses, but make sure the firewall in Apple () menu > System Preferences > Security > Firewall are not set to:
    Block all incoming connections
    Allow only essential services
If you use another security/firewall software on your computer or router, follow this article or contact the manufacturer or check the documentation on how to open TCP ports 123 and 3689 as well as UDP ports 123 and 5353.
For more information on ports used by Apple products, see Well known TCP and UDP ports used by Apple software products.
    6. Quit and reopen apps and iTunes
If connectivity issues persist, quit and reopen iTunes on your computer. Then, quit and reopen the apps on your iOS device.
Note that Home Sharing cannot transfer or stream audiobook content purchased from Audible.com. See Audible.com for information on using their content with multiple devices.
    7. Restart your network router
Restart your home network router using the method recommended in documentation from the manufacturer. This may include disconnecting the power cord for thirty seconds or more.
Note: During this period, Internet services such as a VoIP-based phone will not work, and any additional routers may need to be reset in sequence.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • I am attempting to replace a failed hard drive on a F500 Vista laptop. I have a home premium recover

I am attempting to replace a failed hard drive on a F500 Vista laptop. I have a home premium recovery DVD (1 of 1) and It runs the recovery after a while of loading, and it creates a 24GB partion and loads about 2.6Gb of information on it. the it ejects the disc and asks if I have any suplimental disks, which I don't have. Then it reboots it's self and cycles through reboots for 5 hours, yes I let it do this for 5 hours as the HP site says it could take several hours.
After this I finally shut down the computer and loaded the hard drive in an ext case and retrieved the above information. I also note that the 250GB drive is shown as a 24GB drive, so I guess it hasn't completed the partions?
I never get to a Vista window.
This hard drive does pass the laptop's Bios hard drive check (the former 80GB drive did NOT) and was used to store Old Time Radio shows, until I went to a larger drive.
The Laptop has a dual core Athlon TK-53 processor and the recovery disc is for 32 bit Vista (and the label in front and license on back don't state Vista 64, just Vista)
So, Do I need a Vista 64 recovery disc? Should I download the available driver on the HP site and slap in that disc when the Recovery disc finishes and asks for supplimental discs? Might thngs indicate other issues with the laptop?
I've loaded from scratch XP several times, but this is my 1st Vista experience. Thank you for any help!

Okay. So I was able to install, and format the new internal HD. Was able to install Lion then Mavericks.  Next, is to try to retrieve my data from my failing old HD.  I bought an enclosure (sled), and have my HD hooked up to my laptop, and it finally showed up in Finder.  So.  Now.  What is next?  I am seeing a screen that shows these folders:  Applications (translate for the PC me = Programs), Library (I am assuming?? these are my various files such as docs, photos, music, etc.) System, opt, and Users.  Should I just try to drag and drop some/all of the folders onto my desktop, then open up the folders and do something with the contents?  Sorry to sound so vague and frankly, rather dumb-sounding, but the nomenclature with a Mac is a bit different than with a PC, and Finder is a little different looking to me than Windows Explorer.  I am relieved to see that I was even able to get this failing drive to show up in the first place, so I feel a little like I could be on borrowed time with it.  I think it may just be bad sectors, since I don't hear any clicking or other mechanical issues with the drive as it spins.  But, any further help with retrieving the data would be VERY much appreciated!!

I have joined many forums in my short computer life. This is by far the best forum that I have been a part of. It really up sets me when people come on here and complain before they have even given any of the staff or advisors a chance to help them with their problem. What can I do if my Windows 7 or Vista laptop won't start.
    http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Computer-Troubleshooting/What-can-I-do-if-my-Windows-7-or-Windows-Vista...
This is a great tutorial. Step by step to get your PC up and running and a lot more.Seriosly, if you can't follow this tutorial, you shouldn't have a computer. There will times when this won't work and you will have hardware problems. There are some great people here on the forum that can help you find those problems also. I have tried all these recovery options; they work, and I love my Toshiba laptop. That's why I donate my time to help and that's why others here donate their time. I'm creating this message because I know Google will pick it up. Google picks up every thing

Hi!! You should try the recovery feature in W7. Some times it can be accessed through safe mode. On my model it's easier to use the system repair disc. You can find out how to create that here.
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Create-a-system-repair-disc
You can learn how to use the system repair disc here.

These are basic things you need to know if your going to own a Toshiba laptop.
PS Some day I'm going to convince staff to make a sticky of these things; which would cut their work in half, but then I wouldn't have any thing to do.
Here's what the recovery looks like. You have 5 options to help you. The Dos option can really help if you are familiar with Dos. In Dos you can do a chkdsk---sfc /scannow--- and a whole lot more. Start with the Repair option first and work your way down.

  • Wireless connection not visible on Vista laptop using Time capsule

Change setup with Time capsule 1 TB, all MAC PC's work perfectly with wireless connection, except Vista laptop.
Vista discovers all other wireless connections except the one from Time capsule.
On advise from forum, changed Airport settings :
    - Radio mode = 802/a - 802/g"
    - Wireless security to "none"
Which other setting on Vista prevents at least discovering the wireless signal ?
    Thanks for your support !

I believe the problem has to do with some potential compatibility issue between the SP3 update and the currently installed Boot Camp drivers. Did you make sure that you (re)installed the latest Boot Camp drivers after you performed the SP3 update?
