Face detect behavior on previously tagged images

Hi,
I transfered all my previously tagged images (before face detect feature was available) to the newly created "people" tags. For example, PSE8 face detect created a tag for Claudia (my wife), I then transfered all the photos with my wife on them that I had manually tagged before PSE8. I did that for all my "favorite" faces. Of course, all the photos added to the organizer AFTER installing PSE8 have been added using this feature
PSE8 keeps asking me "Who is this?" for older photos (added before PSE8) even when these photos are already tagged with the proper face tags.
How should I proceed?
How should I handle photos that were added before PSE8?
Should I keep "teaching" PSE8 so it recognized the faces for all my pre-PSE8 images?
I have around 3,000 images in the organizer pre-PSE8
Any comments will be greatly appreciated

Thanks John.
In a related question. PSE8 face detect algorithms do not seem to remember one of my favorite faces (wife wife's!!)... In every rectangle of her face, it will never suggest her name from the usual three options... it will autocomplete her name, though. Even after several sessions, it will never suggest her name.
Is this common?  This behavior seems only specific to her face.
Should I delete her face tag and start all over?
What do you reccommend?
Thanks

  • Proper merging of new face detect tags with previous tags

    Hi,
In PSE7 I had thousands of photos tagged with People tags. The way I had my people tags was somewhat odd but it worked very well for me. For example, I had one tag per person for popular poeple (my wife and daughters) but I also have one tag for one group of people (i.e. The Smiths, or my daughter's friends) where the tag would be placed in any pic with "any" member of that group. This way I did not ended up with hundreds of individual people tags and it was very easy to apply the tags.
Since I wanted to try the new face tagging feature in PSE8 (which I liked and thus will continue to use), I now have my old people tags PLUS the new face detect tags. For example, I have two tags for Claudia, my daughter and so on.
Q1: What is the proper way to merge these duplicated tags? Should I just add all the photos from the old people tag to the new (face detected) tags by dragging/droping the new face tag icon to the selected pics?
Q2: How can I make my group tagging strategy work with the new automatic face detect tagging? which is basically a one tag for one person kind of thing.
Q3: Since we are on the subject of smart tags... I don't see the value in the auto analyze feature and thus would like to erase all those smart tags (high quality, blur, etc). Is there a way to delete these tags without deleting the face detect tags?
Thank you very much for your help

Q1: What is the proper way to merge these duplicated tags? Should I just add all the photos from the old people tag to the new (face detected) tags by dragging/droping the new face tag icon to the selected pics?
Yes.  Note that when using face tagging, you can type in the name of a pre-existing People tag and PSE should use that tag (at least it does in my catalog).  But you need to type it in exactly -- otherwise, PSE will create a new one.  Once you've typed an existing People tag once into face tagging, PSE will then "auto-complete" it in the future.
Q2: How can I make my group tagging strategy work with the new automatic face detect tagging? which is basically a one tag for one person kind of thing.
I think you need to bite the bullet and create one tag for each person.   But the auto-complete tag-typing feature of PSE should make that easier than when you had to painfully scroll your tag heirarchy and drag over a tag.
Q3: Since we are on the subject of smart tags... I don't see the value in the auto analyze feature and thus would like to erase all those smart tags (high quality, blur, etc). Is there a way to delete these tags without deleting the face detect tags?
Does anyone see the value of Auto-Analyzer? :-; To delete one of those tags, check it to show just the photos with that tag. Then do Edit > Select All, right click Remove Keyword Tag.

  • Face detection based tagging

i click a lot of pictures of my family members. a lot of repeat faces therefore.
is there a way to tag images based on a reference image (using face detection?).
might be possible now but i could not find anything through a google search.

  • ITunes showing broken chain link image instead of feed or iTunes tag image.

    Hello,
I am the owner of this podcast & I have been experiencing issues with trying to get iTunes to show my new site image. Originaly the feed was using a generic Wordpress image for the podcast's page and for the podcast's image in the store. Ever since I have changed images by first changing the feed image, the generic Wordprss image still shows for the podcast's store image and the podcast's page image changed to a large white background with a chain having a broken link in the middle of it.
I assumed that this meant the url for the new image was corrupt or something was wrong w/ the XML code, so I imediately switched back to the previous Wordpress image & configuration. This did not fix the problem, so I went in and then changed it back to the new one and tested the url for the feed image tag and the itunes image tag. Both urls for both tags bring all browsers to the image at that location. I then went ahead & started checking the XML code against all the validators out there, and the feed's code was passing all of them with NO mention of any issues regarding the image tags (this includes validation tests against the original feed at Wordpress.com). I know the feed is still working in iTunes because iTunes shows changes to other components to the feed like episode descriptions, new episodes & etc..
I also know that the image is fine, because I attached it to the ID3 tag for the most recent episode, (19), and the coverflow, plus the podcast thumnail view both show the image perfectly.
I have also compared my tags w/ the tags of other podcasters I know whose images are working properly in iTunes.
I feel I have done everything in my power to verify that all of my settings are configured correctly at this point. Unless there is something I have missed that you can point me too, can you please take a look at your end to see if there is anything corrupted in iTunes regarding my podcast that is preventing image updates to occur according to specs?
Please help as soon as possible because this issue has been occuring for the past 4 days with no end in sight. As a result of this issue, people who are seeing my podcast's page are going to be under the impression that it is broken and no longer working for them to subscribe to.
    Thanks for your time,
    John D'Agnese

But, we didn't found any forum or other questin repository about the API.
Trancing the routes for DNS, the host and WebObjects server responds fine. But, the service package http://ax.phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStoreServices.woa/* is so much instable. Sometimes, this responds normally, but often it's not working well.
The problem was detected in Feb 4, but maybe its started in Feb 3.
Can anybody help me or can redirect me for the correct forum to discuss this issue?

  • PSE8: Face Detection

I have been using Photoshop Album 1.0 to Photoshop Elements 8.0, and I have my images tagged with people already.  I was hoping that version 8 would ease the burden of doing this task, but it seems to make the task more difficult.  It does not use the tags I have in place...it creates new ones that are duplicates to my own (well, duplicate in name, but they are treated uniquely by PSE8).
My tag structure is something like the below:
    People
    Family
    Dad
    Mom
    Child 1
    etc.
    Extended Family
    Grandpa...
    Uncle...
    etc.
    Friends
    Friend 1...
    etc.
When PSE8 starts to find faces, it begins to create tags under People like so:
    People
    Dad
    Mom
    Family
    Dad
    Mom
    etc.
It seems like it doesn't like an ordered structure, and this is rather painful when I have ~30,000 photos already tagged.  My other concern is that I don't know how PSE magically ties the tag to the facial features it's looking for.  If I select all the found faces and simply re-tag them as my own, will the facial detection follow what's going on...or will I constantly be battling the program?
It's also frustrating to be required to type in the names I already have tags for.  It seems ridiculous, so I wonder if I'm actually missing something about how the GUI works.  Anyone have any suggestions?
Also, is there a way to see the name <-> face mappings somewhere?
    Thanks!
    Sam

johnrellis wrote: However, in my PSE 8, when I type in the name of a pre-existing tag exactly, Find People For Tagging will use it, rather than creating a new one, regardless where in the heirarchy the existing tag lives.  Did you type in the pre-existing names exactly?
The names were both letter and case exact.  It does not always happen though.  It appears that labels generally do get matched up, but there are sessions that none do...and it creates all new tags.
Also, is there a way to see the name <-> face mappings somewhere?
Select a photo and do Find > Find People For Tagging.
I might be missunderstanding your answer, but what I was after was almost a directory that would show the basis pictures for which PSE is evaluating each person tag. I have seen something close during tagging sessions, but it only shows a few tags...and I can't seem to call it up directly or get the list for all the tags.
Another question is can I have a tag represent multiple people...or will this completely confuse PSE?  For example, outside of my immediate family, I no longer track individuals but families as a whole.  If I tell PSE that say the Dad, Mom, and Child all belong to a Family1 tag, will this work or just confuse the way PSE finds faces?  I'm trying to figure this out by trial and error, but without a directory I'm not sure if it's working or not.
    Thanks again!

  • Weird behavior in opening Aperture images in Photoshop

I have found a lot of really weird behavior when opening Aperture images in an external editor (in my case, Photoshop, so I'll use PS to refer to it):
    1) If the master image is opened in PS, a new version is created when the file is opened, not saved. So quitting PS without saving leaves you with a new version of the file, regardless of whether you actually saved any changes or not.
    2) If a version (not the master) is opened in PS, a new version is not created, either on open, or on save. So in other words, changes to that version in PS when saved overwrite that version, and the previous condition of that version is lost (with respect to versioning).
    3) If multiple versions of the same image are opened simultaneously in PS, there doesn't seem to be a way to tell the difference between them in PS, except for visually (possibly meta-data, but I haven't checked that, nor would I want to be forced to). The file names of all versions are exactly the same.
I'm looking for feedback from anyone out there who can explain why this isn't completely quacky version control. I've been using version control almost my entire career (as a software programmer) and here's how I have seen almost invariably version control work:
    1) New versions of files are always created upon commit, i.e. saving of the file, not on opening a file. (Do not confuse this with working copies, think about what is present in the repository).
    2) Opening / editing any file version is never destructive. Any change to that file version that is saved (committed) results in a new version, not an overwrite to the same version.
Aperture's interface basically has combined what traditional version management has represented separately, that being the client and repository views of a project. They are showing all versions of a file simultaneously. This is fine, but I'm really not liking the fact that some changes create new versions, other changes overwrite versions, and one case, merely opening the file creates a new version, whether there are any changes saved or not. In addition, when working with multiple versions in the editor, the file name and/or interface doesn't give any indication of what version you are working with. Easy to say that's the fault of the external editor, but I disagree -- all external editors are going to work with filenames, so Aperture should produce a unique namespace for any file version so that any external tool will be able to distinguish (visually) one file from another.
Is this completely wacky version management, or is it just me?

    Hi Bradley,
Due to the way I personally use Photoshop, I want Aperture to behave as it does.
That's because, with Photoshop, I use layers extensively. Any edits I do (levels, curves, saturation, sharpening) I do on layers. I can delete the layers at any time (or select to show or hide them). Because of this, I actually WANT Aperture to behave the way it does. Once I've done a bunch of edits in Photoshop, if I select again to edit that file in the external editor, I want to work on that specific file (to add another layer, or change one). I don't want another duplicate. I tinkered with this over the weekend, and it worked very nicely for me.
Perhaps you work differently from within Photoshop? Do you ever use layers? If I were to have a bunch of Photoshop "versions," each with 5 layers, I'd have like 5 GB of "versions" for my original 8 MB RAW file, due to the size of PSD files. Yuck

  • Forcing Face Detection for All Pictures in an Event

Aperture 3.0 fails to detect all faces in all photos in an Event. Is there a way to force face detection for all photos in an Event? As it stands now, one cannot tag photos for faces if Aperture decides (erroneously) that photos don't contain a face.
Spent ninety minutes with Apple Aperture Support, who confirmed this.

I don't know how to answer your first question (force it for all photos), but I thought you could add faces / names to a photo using the Name button left hand side of the toolbar. I've used it today to add a "Face" to a photo containing two hands because I wanted to tag each hand with a Name. So I clicked Name, and drew a box on each hand and added a Name to it. So it works for a single photo but that might be a pain to do for a lot

  • IOS photo app vs iPhoto, keywords, smart albums, face detection?

    greetings,
i have some questions about iOS photos app in comparison to iPhoto (in 10.8).  i've done a little searching on the web and in the forum, but didn't see this covered...
i always sync my iPhone to my mac, copy/import my photos to iPhoto, and use iPhoto to organize my photos.  in iPhoto, i tag photos (keywords) and use "smart albums" to access all my photos based upon the keyword tags.  face detection in iPhoto is GREAT!.   i have all my friends faces named and finding them by "people" grouping is fantastic.  the down side to all of this is that i have everything working great on my mac, but usually i'm using the photos app in the iPhone to show pics to my friends since that is what i have with me.  i'm not sure if this information in iPhoto ever gets synced back to my iPhone.
1- does the iOS photos app have any of these features from iPhoto?
in other words, can i tag photos, lable the faces of friends, set up smart albums in iOS photos?  if so, please point me to some info.  i haven't seen an obvious way to do any of this.
2- can i sync what i do in iPhoto back to my iPhone?
in other words, can i get the tags, peoples' names on their faces, and smart albums copied from iPhotos back to my iPhone?  is there some setting or command in iPhoto, or somewhere else?
3- i just turned on photostream.  can/does this iPhoto data transfer via photostream to the iPhone?
    i have an iPhone 4.
i am just about ready to upgrade from iOS 5 to iOS 6.  so if any of these features are specific to iOS 6, please let me know.
i'd appreciate it if you could mention if there is anything special about iOS in the iPad, because a friend has asked me how she can do in her iPad (iOS 6), what i do with iPhoto in my mac.
thank you for any suggestions or advice.

  • Face detection hit and miss

I am finding this feature to be very hit and miss. I have a lot of folders with full-on, well-exposed face shots that LR is not picking up faces in, and other folders with partial faces that are obscured, dark, or over blown that it is picking out faces in. Then there were the random squiggles of grass that LR thought was my very bald brother...
There doesn't seem to be a way to get it to re-check folders, and "find similar faces" doesn't seem to do anything but look for faces I've already confirmed - the naming makes it seem like if you say, "Hey, here's a face to look for," it would go back through the folder/catalog and look for similar faces that weren't already picked out.
It's got potential, but in its current state, I'm going to have to go through and manually choose faces in thousands of photos that LR theoretically should be picking out. Bummer.
    Keep working on it, Adobe.

My experience so far with LRs face detection is a little disappointing as well.
I understand that machine face recognition has severe limits. Persons age, change in expression, glasses, hats... not to speak of angle of shooting, light conditions etc etc. Plus it needs to be computationally feasible.
And yet when I started to name a person, particularly after having tagged some childhood pictures, the suggestions started to get very very odd, including faces from the opposite sex, some graphic ornaments on a wall, and ancient Greek statues.
And then going through a large collection (again!), with thousands of clicks...
Adding to the disappointment: Although LR CC writes face data to XMP-mwg-rs tags (jay!), it does NOT read and process existing XMP-mwg-rs written by other software (Nooooooo!).
Thousands and thousands clicks to go, again...

  • Face detection hangs

When converting my library from Aperture 2 I have Faces Detection switched off. Now I decided to re-enable it. It have detected some faces but now every time I start Aperture it shows Face detection task which always stop at certain number:
Detecting faces in library: 1,077 of 8,808
If there is any workaround for this? It seems like it stuck on certain image and could not go any further.
    Thanks!

    Thanks Jim for the answer.
I can keep it running but then the next morning I still have the beachball.............:-(
After rebuilding the library all goes well and there seem to be no problems. Problems start after closing down in a normal way and starting up the next time......
And it has been running for a long time without problems. Didn't touch any settings/preferences.
    Maybe the OS update??

  • Face detection like picasa or better please...

this could be a really time saver feature!
request: please use better face detection algoritm than picasa... picasa miss a lot of faces and ask a lot of time if person is correct or wrong!

Yes, a face detection algorithm would make sense in a organizer like Bridge.
Or in general the ability to search pictures for a specific content, color etc.
For  example, you open one picture as "source" for the search and mark the  areas you wish to search for. For person/face detection search it could  also be useful to define several pictures from different perspectives as source. And of course you should be able to save specific search criteria. So everytime you upload new fotos from your camera, they should automatically (or by a simple "one-click-button") be searched for "known" faces and tagged.
Is there something like that in development by Adobe?

  • Face detection freezes my system

Has any of you experienced hanging/freezing problems while face detection is running? I tagged a couple of faces from my pictures (my library size is about 70gb) and shortly after this my whole system hangs. Mouse still moves, but I cannot click anything and I can't even bring up force quit even using keyboard shortcut!

Yes. Although it doesn't crash iPhoto for me, it brings my system to a crawl while it looks for faces in photographs of trees, buildings, clouds etc. I don't take many pictures of people, and I just don't want it to try to identify anyone. I haven't defined any faces, so why is it looking? So it can identify that complete stranger that accidently walked into my photo of Angkor Wat?
I really really want a way just to switch this off. Please. Howsabout if you haven't defined any faces it doesn't look for any? I mean, if you haven't already defined a face, why is it looking at all?!
    Please make it stop.

  • Face Detection NOT working on Desktop, IS working on Laptop

    hey all,
OK, I have Trial setup on both my Macbook Pro and my Mac Pro.
On my Macbook Pro, face detection works fine and great.
On my Mac Pro, it does NOTHING. I even go into a picture and add a missing face and I get nothing on the cork board.
I make it scan for missing faces on a whole project, Activity monitor says it's looking for faces but none show up.
    I've trashed .plist
    I've trashed applicaiton support folder
    I've reinstalled Aperture
I've tried having a project inside aperture and outside aperture
    I'm upset. Any ideas?

I tried making a new Library. I just imported my first year's worth of photos and it's working now. Something got messed up in my previous Library.

  • Turn off Face Detection

Is there any way to turn off face detection? Sometimes we want to do 3-way video conference between large conference rooms. Also is there anyway we can keep the wide screen 1080P image when we are doing 3-way conferencing? Thanks!

    Hi,
    1.  It is by design and I cannot find any methods to disable the function of Face Detection. Video is enhanced with face detection and smart framing, so that a participant’s video moves to help keep them centered
    in the frame.
    2.  High-definition video (up to 1080p resolution) is supported in conferences for Lync 2013. You can refer to the link below of “Lync Client Video Requirements”:
