Faces: Identifying Faces in my iPhoto Library
I just upgraded to iPhoto 09. It probably took about 2 hours to analyze the photo library when I first opened iPhoto 09. I then went through and named about 25 or 30 people, and each person I named at least 10 pictures each.
Now when I select a person in the faces corkboard, it opens the window and shows the photos I manually linked to the name, and in the window below it says "Dave may also be in the photos below" with a little spinning wheel next to it. The problem is, the little spinning wheel never goes away, and iphoto never identifies other photos that could be potential matches.
Is this normal? I have about 40gb to 50gb of photos?
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

IPhoto and iPhoto Library Manager Issue With Faces
I use iPhoto ’11. I just recently imported some photos from my iMac iPhoto to my Macbook using the product iPhoto Library Manager. I thought everything went well until closer inspection. A lot of the faces in the imported library are off meaning for example, the people may be in the centre of the photo but the face tags are off to the left or right.
I thought I would manually try to fix this. However when I try to “add a face”, it looks like it’s going to work until I leave the photo and come back to it. The face tag has disappeared. Also on some photos, I can’t even click “add a face”. A few of the pictures say there is an unnamed face but there isn’t.
Any suggestions? Would it help if I reinstalled iPhoto 11?
TomIf you export out of iPhoto with Format=JPEG and the checkboxes selected to include keywords you can keep the keywords, titles and descriptions. If you check the box for Locations I believe you will get the faces also but am not sure on that.
iPhoto Library Manager keeps keywords, titles, description and Faces and Places when it copes between libraries. The fact that you had faces problems leads me believe that the library you were rebuilding with iPLM was damaged initially.
But you could check that out very easily. Create a new library, import about 10 photos and identify the faces in them. Then rebuild that library with iPLM. If it comes up the same then there's a problem with iPLM. It it comes up good then the original library was the culprit. -
If I share an iPhoto library between multiple users, will the Faces, Events, and Places be automatically usable by all users, or will each user have to tag all the photos (e.g. if a user tags a face, will a different user have to do it in their own iPhoto application??

Ok so here's what has happened. I got on the Mac to open IPhoto. It opened, but no files PERIOD! No albums, events, photos, faces. They were all empty. I had TONS of albums and photos. I have no clue how long it's been this way, probably a couple of weeks since I've been on it. Ac couple of things come to mind that might have caused or had something to do with...IPhone 4 had to be restored and a back-up and upgrade occurred. Also, I deleted files off my camera while connected. Not sure the culprit, but VERY UPSET! I have never set up Time Machine and have no other back up. I downloaded and purchased File Salvage but I have to get an external hard drive before it will do it. I put the application install CD in last night thinking that if I reinstalled it would help but then I got scared and shut Mac down half way through. I couldn't even find the file IPhoto Library. When I open IPhoto it say IPhoto 9 but when I "get more info" it says IPhoto 8.1.2 or something like that. Please HELP!!
Try an All Images Search:
In the Finder:
Command - f
Kind: Images
Size: Greater than 300kb (This is to avoid all the thumbnails, icons and so on.)
Set it to search the Mac.
As to why? The most likely answer is user error, I'm afriad. It does point up the importantce of always having a back up.

Please help iPhoto library problems - faces, facebook etc.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong but iPhoto 09 has never worked very well for me. When I first started to use iPhoto 09 I went through my library to tag everyone so they came up in the faces thing. I had to add lots of missing faces because it didn't detect many. Then it merged lots of the faces together under one face name and also lost most of the ones I had tagged. I was really annoyed because this took me ages and I read on the forum that others were having problems so I decided to leave it for a while. I also had a huge problem uploading to facebook. When I made an album to upload it would start but then my internet would go off and then iPhoto just crashed. Whenever I touch any of the facebook albums iPhoto just crashes. After a couple of updates I started to think these features might be working better so I decided to sort out my library. I started to sort out the faces thing where they different people had been merged. I went through and added lots of missing faces. When I went back to check these photos the names I had added disappeared from the photo. I tried about 10 times and each time they disappeared on the same photos. Facebook was still crashing so I deleted all of my facebook albums which took ages because it kept crashing. Now it has duplicated an event and put it under a blank name and a different date. When i try to delete the photos they stay there and when I try to merge the folders that are the same, another event gets put in the folder of the same date, creating different duplicates. I don't understand what i'm doing wrong and I'm so scared of losing photos and all of the things like dates and order etc. Can anyone tell me why i'm having all of these problems? I think i need to rebuild my libary but I don't know how and i'm scared of losing photos or dates, or names or places or faces. Sorry such a long post, any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have just upgraded to iPhoto 11. Now all the faces I had named in my iPhoto library are unnamed. How do I fix this?
Restore a Known-good back up and update that to iPhoto 11.

Faces continually crashes iphoto
Hi all,
Since an upgrade to iPhoto 11 faces, and on occasion iphoto, crashes iphoto and restarts with an error. I must say since the upgrade to iphoto 11I have also suffered numerous crashes in general when trying to use the program. On advice from these forums I have rebuilt my library twice and repaired permissions with no luck. My library has about 45,000 images in it. This is happening every few minutes with the following error detail provided. This is getting to the point where I am considering a move to another more reliable program. Up until the upgrade Iphoto could do no wrong however now, like others, I am regretting the upgrade and I am beginning to wonder if apple is going to do anything about it.
Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

How can I export Faces info from one library to another?
How can I export direct from one Library to another? Currently I am exporting to desktop and then importing to alternative Library. This works including file name and description. However Faces info is lost. How can I retain Faces info?
It is not possible to "export" face information - there is no defined place to put it

I have faces in my iPhoto but only one shows on my iPad 2. why?
i just bought an ipad and want to have all my photos on the pad. the trouble is that only one of the people in the faces section appears in itunes. Why?

Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button,
and select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2: Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired. -
How do I fix this problem with Faces on my iPhoto?
Recently, I bought a new MacBook Pro (with Retina Display, Early 2015, 500 GB.) When I restored my information from a Time Machine backup, everything appeared to be perfect. However, when I actually started looking through iPhoto, my photos began incorrectly rotating themselves before my eyes.
I tried just about everything to fix this. I went through all the processes of "repair permissions," "rebuild thumbnails," "repair database," and "rebuild database," and none of those fixed the problem. Worse, more continue to incorrectly rotate themselves before my eyes as I view them. Usually, the ones that rotate themselves are portraits, but occasionally landscape photos do the same. Also, when I select "reveal in finder" for a photo that has rotated itself incorrectly, the "original file" is always correct, while the "modified file" is incorrect. I don't know why this "modified file" comes about because I am certainly not modifying it.
Taking a suggestion from a user here in the Apple Support Community, I used iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild a new library from my original one. This appeared to work really well. Although many photos were rotated incorrectly, this appeared to be organic, and I wasn't noticing photos being incorrectly rotated as I looked through them. So, I set out to complete the long task of rotating all of my photos correctly in my new iPhoto library.
However, I've encountered another problem (in the new library only.) iPhoto isn't recognizing when I change, add, or delete faces. If I do any of those three things, the information bar still recognizes the original state of faces (i.e. saying "2 unnamed faces" when I just named the faces or deleted the empty boxes.) This is annoying because it makes my library inconsistent, and I would at least like the option of using the feature.
So, I now have two iPhoto libraries: my original one that keeps rotating photos incorrectly as I look through them and one that doesn't acknowledge changes made to faces.
I would really appreciate any help in trying to fix either of my libraries. I hope to make one perfect soon and delete the other one to make more space, but I want to be completely satisfied with one before I delete the other.

LukePersonally, I would never use a debit card online, for security reasons. If your card gets hacked its your money that is stolen. At least with a credit card it is the card providers money that is stolen.
Anyway, I would delete the app and re-install. If you paid for the app in the first place you will be able to re-install free of charge. Also, the app should allow the in-app purchase to happen again as it should recognise that you have already purchased it previously.
Finally, it might be that the 3G doesnt have as much ram as more recent models of iphone and you may have applications running in the background that are preventing the app to function with the in-app purchase unless you shut down any apps eating all you memory that are running in the background. Shut-down these apps (and the simpson tap out app) by exiting to your home screen and double-tapping the home button to show what apps are running in the background. press and hold any of the open apps until it starts shaking. close all the apps down. exit then re-launch the app.

Can you confirm this Faces bug in iPhoto '11?
I have created an Smart Album "unnamed faces" which should show all photos with "unnamed" faces. It shows about 2,500 of my about 24,000 photos. Some of these have been added recently, some are in the library since the old iPhoto '08 days. I see that some of them often "forget" that I have already rotated them. Even the face frames stay unrotated and are sometimes converted from squares to rectangles. But all this doesn't really matter.
This is what I see as a bug: When I edit such a photo in the Smart Album, it e.g. shows one named face and "1 unnamed". I then rotate the image to have it in the desired portrait or landscape view, remove the wrong, rectangled and named face frame and name the unnamed, correctly placed square face frame with the desired person's name.
Whatever I do next, photos treated this way still tell me they would have 1 named and 1 unnamed face frame. I only see the named, square frame, because I have deleted the old, wrong and rectangled frame before.
Even more strange: When I set the Smart Album parameters like this:
it shows these "damaged" images, which optically only have one named face frame left. The (translated) settings are: "All" conditions: "Face is unnamed" && "Face is not unnamed".
This is really weird and I have no idea how to fix it except deleting and re-importing the images.
PS: Yes, I have already even tried all options of iPhoto Library Manager without success for this issue.Back to your original Library:

This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. -

So by deleting the "Face Profile" or whatever it's called for the individual Faces keeps searching for, you think that's not a solution?
The actual pictures identified by faces are not deleted. Only the avatar and name you list to be looked for within faces is what you're removing.
Do you have a better solution? I'm all ears. -
I had format my HD and reinstall OS then import my photos in my iPhoto library. but iphoto not recognize faces automaticaly for the photos for I had named allready earlier, please advice me, should i excercise once again to give name for all my photos

Deleting all Face data in iPhoto '11
Hi everyone,
While naming my Faces in iPhoto '11 I accidentally ignored a lot of faces that I actually did know.
Does anyone know how to remove all the Faces data so I can start again? Is there a Terminal command or a file in the Library?
Any help would be much appreciated.Try the steps in the following except for the locking of the faces db file.
Disable_Faces
1 - open the library like this in the Finder.
2 - in the Database folder move this file to the Trash: Faces.db.
3 - close the package/folder and launch iPhoto. Close it after a moment.
4 - while viewing the contents of the package type Command+F to start a search.
5 - set the criteria of the search to: Kind is Image and Name Contains "face".
6 - select all of the files in the search results window and drag to the Trash.
7 -close the package and launch iPhoto.
This will remove any "faces" images in the library as well as setting the faces database back to the beginning, empty.
Of course make a temp, backup copy of the library before trying this. -
How can I save "faces" when exporting a library?
Trying to use more libraries but when I export most of the discription moved but none of the faces did. Is there a way to move faces so I do not have to go throught the whole process again?

As for the multiply libraries it is under "Manage you iPhoto library" "Use more than one library".
It does not come up in iPhoto help nor docome up in a google search -- exactly where do you see it and exactly what does it say
All I'm trying to do is get all my photos organized whether in multiple or a single library with out having to reenter names for faces.
