Failed (bad environment) Deploying MSU Packages on SCCM 2012 R2

Hi All,
I am trying to deploy the following updates to a test collection of computers running Windows 8.1 Enterprise:
Windows8.1-KB2919442-x64.msu
Windows8.1-KB2919355-x64.msu  (These are the Windows 8.1 Interface Updates, the first file is a pre-req of the second)
I am doing this by way of a package which executes a simple batch file to silently install these updates, here is the batch file:
Wusa.exe \\syscent\Distributions\Windows8.1-KB2919442-x64.msu /quiet /norestart
Wusa.exe \\syscent\Distributions\Windows8.1-KB2919355-x64.msu /quiet /norestart
I have verified that the updates install if I run the batch file manually on a test machine.
However when I attempt to deploy the package to a group of test machines I receive the follow error in SCCM:
I have no OS restrictions on the package so I'm a bit confused about what's going here.  I am planning on deploying these (and some other updates) to about 900 computers in at the school I work at over the summer, and would really love to get this working
through SCCM.
Thanks for any help!
-Andrew

I don't know that installing a pkgmgr/msu update via UNC is supported (it's not documented), so why not try packaging the msu files instead?
[change your commandline to be: wusa KBnumber.msu /quiet /norestart]
I guess you aren't using Software Update Management (which could be doing this for you)?
(or, are those KBs hotfixes not published to WSUS)?
NB: executing installations in this way (running from remote UNC) is not the most efficient use of ConfigMgr...

  • Deploy Java Updates using SCCM 2012 SP1 and SCUP 2011

What is the best way to deploy Java updates using sccm 2012 SP1 and SCUP 2011?

    I didn´t find Kent´s blog useful when talking about Java. I can deploy Adobe products fine, but I have to import Java manually because not having Shavlik certificate. So with that said, I have the fallowing problem;
I have full offline installer unpacked, .msi file and Data1.cab. When I´m importing these binaries to SCUP, I only can point to .msi. Doing that, installation fails in client side fails because of lack of data1.cab fine, which is the main file.
Should I use some other downloaded files of Java? I couldn´t find any Java-update-file only type of files to download.

  • How to deploy .msp files through SCCM 2012

    Team,
Can you please help me to deploy .msp files through SCCM 2012?

I tried to search and got few things but didn't understand to proceed with.
    Please help me with this.
    Regards,
    Mahadev Nitture
You can use a typical/standard application deployment method (just a minor change because of MSPfile).
Here are some guides, for typical application deployment:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682159.aspx
    http://www.gerryhampsoncm.blogspot.ie/2013/03/sccm-2012-sp1-step-by-step-guide-part_7075.html
Familiarise yourself with these methods, then return to the example suggested by Torsten for specific steps for MSP:

  • Having issues deploying packages in sccm 2012.

I am having trouble deploying packages to my environment. From what I can tell with the trouble shooting I have done so far. The run with admin rights is not passing through to the clients. If I use a standard software package .exe or .msi (like adobe, MS
Office) the package or application installs fine. However if I use, powershell, vb, .bat, straight command line
MsiExec.exe, They all fail to what seems like it’s not passing the admin right through because I get the UAC prompt and install fails. How do I get the admin rights to work with the other forms of installs so I can push them out silent like I do with .exe and
    .msi applications?
    Thanks
    Tony

So first, you can absolutely use Applications for more than just MSIs; for an example see:
    http://blog.configmgrftw.com/configmgr-2012-application-deployment-by-example-user-exe-deployment/
For packages though, the setting is in the program and is on the environment tab in the Run Mode box. Packages merely define the source files, programs define what to do with those source files like the command-line and rights to use.

  • Deploying the FEP client (SCCM 2012 R2) on computers that already have the FEP client from a previouse failed site installation

    Hello All
I am in the process of rebuilding our SCCM 2012 R2 site server (single site). The FEP client from the previous sccm 2012 r2 deployment was successfully installed on all of our endpoints and communicating with no issue with the site server. Since losing that
server we are in the process of deploying a one. My question is, when I configure FEP and the site server attemtps to deploy the FEP client will the current one be reinstalled even though its same version? Or will SCCM just recognize there is already
a compatible client installed. I asked a similar question about the SCCM client in another post which was very helpful.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

No, the Endpoint Protection client is still a separate client. By, enabling the client settings the ConfigMgr client will make sure that the Endpoint Protection client is installed and makes sure it will be 'managed'. After re-installing the ConfigMgr
client, the ConfigMgr client will see that Endpoint Protection is already installed and the new ConfigMgr client will start 'managing' the Endpoint Protection client.

  • Issues deploying CC packages using SCCM.

Getting the following error while deploying CC Photoshop/InDesign packages (Device based licensing) through SCCM - "Windows cannot open this program because it has been prevented by a software restriction policy".
The installation goes fine when I click OK on this error. But when the shortcut is launched, a "Sign In Required" window appears, which should not be the case, as I've build the packages using Device licensing option in Creative Cloud Packager. There is no issue, when I install these packages manually on the machine, seems to be an issue SCCM as it installs with SYSTEM account. Exactly not sure what is causing it, struggling to resolve it, have to deploy it to users within strict timeline.
Can you please look into this and assist? Kindly let me know in case you need more info on this issue.
    Thanks in advance....

  • Not liking Deployment Status Monitoring in SCCM 2012 - Not enough detail

I know SCCM 2012 has made some fantastic changes to offering tools for deploying packages.  I am using and learning a lot about deploying apps using the new features of SCCM 2012 Application Management.  I still have a few apps that I need to deploy
the old way using Packages.  With the old way, I liked using task sequences and conditions with WMI Queries.  One item I found out quickly is that I am having issues with SCCM 2012 recognizing some name spaces such as root\cimv2\sms.  I am still
researching why.  The other item is reporting of advertisements or what SCCM 2012 now calls Deployments.  I am unable to find a way to get more detailed reporting on deployments that I had with SCCM 2007 using the right click tools and advertisement
reports.  The details of these reports in SCCM 2007 was really good and I was able to troubleshoot each step of a task sequence.  All I can find with SCCM 2012 is a simple description that says the "Program completed with success" or the program
failed.  Is there a way to easily get more detailed reports much like I had with SCCM 2007?  I know I am missing something really simple.  Any insight would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    BJ

It's an old thread and all, but I'd like to add to the last post.
Pellewall has 400 application type deployments - I feel bad for him. We've converted almost all of ours into packages, because application deployment doesn't Work as reliably as packages. We can't get applications to install in task sequences, and sometimes
simple installs fail for wierd reasons when deployed as application, but perform fine using the same install string as a package launched thru cmd (both as system user).
We've been using sccm 2012 for 1½ years now roughly, and I'd discourage anyone from making application type programs if they don't want a headache.
As for reporting - the builtin reports need to be modified to become useful, but they're a nice extra to have. I find the old reporting system in 2007 was much simpler and faster than srs though, but that might just be my opinion.
As times change, so do people.

  • Software Distribution & Patching Design Issues - Migration of Packages SCCM 2007 to Application or Conventional Packages in SCCM 2012

    Hi All
I am starting in discussion to deep root on Software Distribution & Patching model in large environments from SCCM 2007 migrating to SCCM 2012.
Below are certain assertions i am putting forward for your expert views or you may in a similar situation
1- I have migrated the packages from SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012 as conventional methods, now i am deploying them [ not migrated the advertisements and collections ], so while deploying i am facing a peculiar situation that the deployment when created is of the
name "<<Package name>>(program)". I am not able to rename the deployment for the conventional packages. is there a way out to that??
2- Will the collection queries work the same in SCCM 2012 as was in SCCM 2007??
3- In SCCM 2012 Primary site there is default role called Site System role in that there is tab for proxy settings. I have observed that if do not check the proxy tab there and punch in proxy IP and port then after some time in the WSUS server the update
source and proxy server tab the proxy option gets unchecked and hence the sync in software update point status appears failed. Is that anyone else also has observed !!!!!

  • Deploying ipa file via SCCM 2012 R2 / Intune

    Hello Experts,
We recently set up a Windows Intune Subscription in our Configuration Manager 2012 R2 Environment. The MDM part (Configuration Items) and deploying app store deep links is working without any problems.
In our company we have a native iOS App which is currently distributed via a website. (Not App Store!). I tried to distribute the app via configuration manager 2012 r2 but the app doesn't show up in the company portal even after a day. I made the following
    steps to distribute the app:
    1. Received the ipa and plist File from the Developer.
    2. Added the application to configuration manager 2012 r2
    3. Deployed the application to my intune user collection (DP: manage.microsoft.com / Purpose: Available)
Did i miss any importent step? One thing i can say is that the app is not signed with our APN Certificate which is used in the Intune Subscription. According to our developer this should not be neccessary?!
    Thanks for any advice.

I redeployed the app and the following entries were in the logs:

  • Windows 8.1 clients are not detecting updates deployed to them through SCCM 2012 R2

    Hello,
We are using SCCM 2012 R2 to deploy software updates.
On Windows 8.1 SCCM does not show certain updates as being needed and isn't deploying them to the clients even though Windows Update will show them as high importance. These same updates are being detected and deployed to Windows 8 clients successfully.
I believe that the update catalog that WSUS uses may have some incorrect detection rules for the following updates:
    2917933
    2913320
    2913270
    2913152
    2909569
    2904440
    2904266
    2903939
    2899189
    2893984
    2893294
    2892074
    2916626
    2898785
My automatic deployment rules include Windows 8.1 in the product category. I have even created a standalone rule for Windows 8.1 that builds a new package and the behavior is the same.
We only have a handful of Windows 8+ clients so this hasn't been a big issue but others may want to keep an eye out.

I am also running into this issue.  After "checking online for updates" on one of my machines in office I found that there were 21 important updates for my 8.1 box.  When I cross reference them in SCCM under All Software Updates, it appears these
8.1 updates are not listed.  They are however listed for all other OS.
10 seconds after typing this, I went in to verify my WSUS ->  Products and Classifications settings and come to find 8.1 and 2012 R2 weren't selected, even though it's an option in SCCM.  Go figure!  This wasn't the end though.  After
running a Synchronization, my issue still wasn't resolved.  Went back to check my settings and they again were changed back to having these OS unchecked.  Finally, a solution!  I found that in SCCM, under Administration tab, Site Configuration
    > Sites > ABC - Mysitename, right click and scroll down to "Configure Site Components" > Software Update Point.  This setting (although the same as is in WSUS) takes precedence, thus was rolling my settings back to the original configuration
    in WSUS.
So long story short, even though my automatic deployment rules stated approve all windows 7/8/8.1 criticals/importants, 8.1 was getting skipped for the most part because my WSUS server wasn't syncing with Microsoft for all of the updates I required.  I
did have a couple of updates that squeezed through because they were categorized as "Security Updates for Windows 8, 8.1".
Not sure if this is the solution you were looking for, but your thread got me started in the right direction, hopefully this response helps in the same way!
    Thanks!

  • Automatic Install of Endpoint Protection fails on windows 8.1 clients with SCCM 2012 R2

Running SCCM 2012 R2 and deploying CM clients and Endpoint Protection via software updates. CM client and EP install fine on Windows 7 clients. CM client installs fine but endpoint protection fails on Windows 8.1 clients with the following from the
    endpoint protection agent log:
    <![LOG[Create Process Command line: "C:\Windows\ccmsetup\SCEPInstall.exe" /s /q /policy "C:\Windows\CCM\EPAMPolicy.xml".]LOG]!><time="12:22:02.560+240" date="08-13-2014" component="EndpointProtectionAgent"
    context="" type="1" thread="4260" file="epagentutil.cpp:607">
<![LOG[Detail error message is : [EppSetupResult]
    HRESULT=0x80070643
Description=Cannot complete the System Center Endpoint Protection installation. An error has prevented the System Center Endpoint Protection setup wizard from completing successfully. Please restart your computer and try again. Error code:0x80070643. Fatal
    error during installation.
So on the win8.1 client I run the above command line manually in a command window and receive Access is denied. Then I run the same command in an elevated command window and EP installs fine. Does this have something to do with why the automatic
EP client install fails with the 0x80070643 error code? If so, what is the fix?

    Hi,

  • Updating an App-v 5 package in SCCM 2012, update not applying automatically

Hello, just doing some testing of updating an App-v 5 package in SCCM. The application has been deployed and  run on a client pc. I've gone back and opened the package in the sequencer and made some changes and saved it as a new package.
In SCCM I've updated the content and pointed it at the new package. That all looks fine. It's showing the new files in the content.
The application deployment settings are set to required and set to install outside maintenance windows. The client has received the update, I can see it in the software center but it's not being applied automatically.
I've waited over 12 hours so the client has also had its maintenance window but it still has not updated. I've also tried launching the application to see if that would bring in the update but still no joy.
Just wondered what experience other people have had with this?

Firstly, just because you mentioned saving as a new package, if you select that option it will create a brand new v0.0.0.1 package and users settings will not transfer to the new version, so just use save or save as in most cases.
Have you tried logging the user off and on again? And if the app is published globally, rebooting?
If the application is in use, then the update will be delayed until either of these events occur, depending on how it was published. Also, if the app has certain integration points such as shell extensions or browser plugins, these can create a lock on the
package even though you don't have the application running. You can run a powershell command to stop the package and speed things up if you wish, although this runs the risk of terminating explorer.exe or iexplore.exe:
Get-AppvClientPackage *name* | Stop-AppvClientPackage   (and add -global to the end if it was globally published)

  • Deploy a shortcut via SCCM 2012 R2

Hello, I have a package that installs a program in C: \ Application but it does not create an application shortcut on desktop.
Is there any of meteodo to deploy the shortcut via SCCM?
    Atenciosamente Julio Araujo

You could enable verbose logging for the MSI installation.
Then install the MSI using the local system account with PSEXEC -i -s cmd.exe
    http://richardbalsley.com/a-simple-tip-to-test-software-installation-using-the-local-system-account
Have a look at the log file and compare it to a log file installed with your own credentials.
    msiexec /i "C:\MyPackage\Example.msi" /L*V "C:\log\example.log"

  • Deploy Lync 2013 Via SCCM 2012

    Dear,
I wants to deploy Microsoft Lync 2013 via SCCM 2012, I have created a new deployment package based on MSI file to install Microsoft Lync 2013 for company machines, during the installation package will install for clients computer perfectly but instead of
install automatically to users, every time message coming user should do it manually for example user should accept the terms of the agreement, kindly I need a way to solve this issue, I need Lync 2013 automatically install without users doing anything, please
    see attached snapshot.

Make sure that you are using the right command line using your newly created MSP
    ex: setup.exe /adminfile "Lync_Updated.msp"
As proposed, update your DP so that your MSP gets distributed.
You can also follow this guide if you're still experiencing difficulties.

  • Create vertual package in SCCM 2012

I Need to create a virtual (App-v package) that I sequenced in sccm 2012. I remember in sccm 2007 there was an option (Create virtual package) I don't see that here whats the procedure for creating virtual package\application in sccm 2012
    Thanks

I re-sequenced it Notepad++ and this time and this time I chose continue Configuring and launched Application and was able to add file association through the App, so when App was repushed file association was there for .vbs, .txt. etc...
I have been looking at some blogs and I fond that the sequencer has a Tab Shortcuts and FTA's I don't see that Tab on my sequencer and I'm running 5.0 sp1 any thoughts on that?
maybe ask in the dedicated App-V forum?
