Failed to delete a file in MS Vista using java.io.File.delete()
while trying to delete a file using java.io.File.delete(), it returns true but the file lies intact.
i'm sure there is no handle or stream open on the file..
the same code is running fine in XP..
if anyone can help me.. thanks

the problem is diagnosed further..
MS Vista does not let a user program to delete any file from 'windows' or 'program files' directories..
Even when the file is deleted manually thru explorer a confirmation is taken from the administrator.. even when he is logged in..
i for now have opted to install and use my program in Vista outside 'program files' directory...
more clarification welcome..

I have created a java applet which is downloaded to create local file at a Windows Vista PC. The java codes are:

If I turn off "Users Account Control" under "Control Panel" --> "User Accounts", the file "hkuesd.properties" is created at c:\users\test and can be found using windows explorer.
However, if I turn on "Users Account Control", I can not find the file "hkuesd.properties" using windows explorer. But the file can be detected if I run another java applet program with the following codes:

Interestingly, if "Users Account Control" is on and I created the file "c:\users\test\hkuesd.properties" manually, the file creation codes
mentioned above seems to create another "hkuesd.properties" at the same "c:\users\test". The evidence is I run the second java applet program which can detect the one created by the first java applet but not the one I created manually.I agreed that it is hardly explained in words. I
suggested to write two
simple java applets using the codes and you will see
the effects:
(1) the first applet can create a file
"hkuesd.properties"
(2) cannot find the file using windows explorer to
search the whole drive.
(3) However, can read the content of the file using
second applet.You still haven't address your problem of swallowing exceptions. Your code might be throwing an exception that tells you exactly what the problem is. Change your code to display or log that exception. -
Can the JRE auto download support in Vista using Java 5?

Failed to delete file after processing FTP
Failed to delete file after processing. The FTP server returned the following error message: 'com.sap.ai i.adapter.file.ftp.FTPEx: 550 Unexpected reply code *.txt: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. '. For details, contact your FTP server vendor.
I got this error many times for the same interface. Not sure what is the reason for this.
Searched on internet go comments that this is because of FTP version!
Please helpIt is the "Msecs to Wait Before Modification Check" in the Sender Adapter that ensures this. It works like this: PI starts processing, finds a file, then waits the number of miliseconds specified and checks the file again to see if it has changed over the waiting period. If so, then it waits again to make sure the file is written completely. Only if no changes took place over the waiting period, it starts processing the file.
And the fact that your file was successfully processed at retry only confirms that it might have been still written to by the sender system. You can try comparing file's creation timestamp (in OS level) with its processing start time in PI - this could prove me right.

I recently upgraded to a Palm T/X and after a couple of issues with synchronizing and installing files I think I've got the issues solved by changing the conduit of certain programs and upgrading to the new Palm Desktop (which I don't like as well as the old one but, Oh well!) it works OK specially installing files and that is all that matters. My recent issue is with a program I bought to back up my Palm since I no longer could do it by just inserting the backup card and restoring or backing up. This is the message I get when synchronizing: Failed to install 1 file(s) - BackupBuddyVFS.PRC - Invalid handheld file (file deleted) - Conduit Error: Invalid synchronization type (1012) - CONDERR_BAD_SYNC_TYPE.
I appreciate any help I can get, hopefully this is the last issue I have and I can start enjoying my new Palm.

View Solution.I upgraded from a Palm Zire72 and I'm pretty sure I followed the installation and synch instructions but I don't recall it asking to rename the backup file but I may be wrong. I've downloaded other applications including NVBackup without any problems. I guess I don't need it now since I have NVBackup but I paid for BackupBuddy and would like to see what it does. The one thing I can tell you is that I deleted a few files that I thought I no longer needed to make some room such as a couple of games and AvantGo. Hope this gives you some ideas and can help figure it out.

I have a 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium PC. I recently had to reinstall my PC. I'm trying to install my Adobe Products like Flash Professional CS5 and Photoshop CS5, but it keeps coming up with the message "Failed to initialize. File not found. Please download Adobe Support Advisor to detect the problem." I keep looking around at different sites, but they seem so difficult and so much information which leaves me so confused. I have no idea how or why this has happened, and due to my autism it leaves me very panicky.

rying to get Photoshop CS4 functional with Mavericks and an Epson 3880 printer. CS4 fails to send a file to the print queue. Have reinstalled the Epson 3880 driver for Mavericks. All looks good but no file is sent.
Does anyone know how to fix this?What EXACT version of Photoshop CS4 are you running? You should be on Photoshop CS4 v 11.0.2.
Also run Apple's software update to see whether it offers you the latest Epson update:

To re-create the preferences files for Photoshop, start the application while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"
Note: If this process doesn't work for you while you're using a wireless (Bluetooth) keyboard, attach a wired keyboard and retry.
Important: If you re-create the preferences by manually deleting the Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings file, make sure that you only delete that file. If you delete the entire settings folder, you also delete any unsaved actions or presets.
Reinstalling Photoshop does not remove the preferences file. Before reinstalling Photoshop, re-create your preferences.

Libre ~ Error 2038 "failed to open the file"
Good morning.
I have a Libre-eBook reader Pro.
I have downloaded and synced from Kobo to my Libre with no problems.
But when I try to download ebooks from the public library they download and open in Digital Editions just fine. I drag and drop them into the bookshelf marked Libre-eBook Reader Pro.
They show up when I turn on my ebook, but when I try to open them I get the 'failed to open the file'.
I was also getting the Error 2038 in Digital Editions when I did the drag and drop thing. I read through the forum and went through the steps recommended for the Nook ~ deleting the digital editions folder on my ebook and having Adobe reauthorize it. I no longer get the 2038 error message in Adobe, but I am still unable to open the books from the library.
I have tried deleting the books from ereader and ADE and redownloading from the Library. Didn't help.
Any other suggestions?

Based on my research, the error can be caused by that the machine.config file is incorrect or corrupted. Please use the following steps to troubleshoot the issue and check if the error still occurs.
1. Open the machine.config in Visual Studio and check if there is any syntax errors. If syntax errors exist, modify the machine.config file directly. For more details, please review this similar
thread.
2. If the error still persists, please follow the steps to replace the machine.config file. Another alternative method is to replace the current machine.config with the machine.config file from another computer.
a. Go to the folder C:\windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG
b. Rename the file machine.config to machine.config.old
c. Make a copy of the file machine.config.default and rename the copy to be machine.config
d. If your Operating System is 64-bit, go to the folder C:\windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\CONFIG and repeat the above steps
e. Reboot your computer

SP1 Failed Update - Update missing file in temp folder
An Update to SP1 failed. The System is running now in its old state and working fine.
The problem now is, that I can't update to SP1. The SP1 Installer detects the failed patch installation, and tries to continue the installation. It fails, searching for a file that doesn't exist, in the windows temp folder.
Is there a way to tell the SP1 installer to ignore the failed installation, and behave as if it's the first time it tries to install the update?HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\ExchangeServer\V15\CafeRole is on a CAS Server.
HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\ExchangeServer\V15\MailboxRole is on the Mailbox Server.
In my case the problem was on the mailbox server. After I deleted it the
setup started normally, without noticing an uncomplete install.

Cas Log Errors - Failed To Delete Directory
In most of the CAS logs on clients I see the error repeated:
Error: DeleteDirectory: - Failed to delete Directory with Error 0x00000003
Error: DeleteDirectory: - Failed to delete Directory C:\Windows\ccmcache\**** with Error 0x0000002
What is the cause of this? Looks like it is trying to delete a folder from the local client package cache?The error code means the file cannot be found. The file may be already deleted. You need to open the cache folder and check. Normally, it is not an issue.

One of my replication job failed with below error, which means job failed because of permission issue on the folder. To resolve that, I have granted the permission and it started working fine. Now the question is as my job was running fine since long time
without any issue then how suddenly the permission of the folder got omitted automatically? I am sure that no one deleted the permission from the folder and as the server is part of SQL cluster no failover occurs.

Error code 5 indicates that the error is "access is denied." Please make sure that the COM folder is excluded from any antivirus scan that occurs on the system.
If the issue still persists, I recommend you use
Process Monitor to find out a bit more about the accounts and access requests involved. Then grant write permission to the exact COM folder for the account that is running the SQL Server Agent service. For more details, please review the following similar

System synchronization failed--Protocol Error: Handheld file could not be opened. (4004)
I have reviewed Palm Support Page and the forums and recognize this is an old story but the solutions offered haven't worked for me. I have had my Tungsten 2E for over a year and an earlier version before that. It has been working well for me until I had a problem (out of the blue) with the HotSync. I reinstalled the Palm software after checking cables, etc. I was able to relink and get updated info from my handheld to the desktop but with a few blips in DocstoGo where I had to delete documents and add them back to the desktop and resync with the handheld. All the info is on the handheld but see the log below to see the message "System synchronization failed". A suggestion by other users is to delete the "PmTraceDatabase" to file C:\Program Files\Palm\N\Backup\PmTraceDatabase.PDB but I cannot find the named file on my desktop program files for Palm.
Does anyone have an explanation other than "live with it" since I believe I'm getting all my info synced?

I am using a WD external HD with USB and have formatted it correctly according to Apples recommendation: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1550?viewlocale=en_US
If I delete the file that gave an error, next time I backup TM continues to backup successfully until it reaches another file and gives the same error.
I suspect it may have something to do with permissions, but obviously I have repaired the permissions and nothing changes.
Any ideas how to fix this problem?

OS 10.6.1I've had similar problems and would love to know how to resolve this problem...
Previously clients were bound to AD with ADMitMac running 10.5.8 using Time Machine and everything is great for months...
Upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.1 and uninstall ADMitMac and bind the clients to AD using built in Active Directory Plug-in. Everything works great except that Time Machine fails on all three computers which were upgraded. Here's what I've tried to solve the problem:
1) Went into TM preferences and under "Select Disk..." set it to "None" and told TM to "Stop Backing Up" to turn TM off.
2) Went into /Library/Preferences and deleted the com.apple.TimeMachine.plist file.
3) Launched Disk Utility and reformatted the backup drive using a different name and made sure that it was formatted "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
4) When it finished it's format it prompted me to set as Time Machine Backup Disk which I did.
At this point the backup runs backs up about half the drive and then I get the following types of errors in the Time Machine Logs...

I can rule out a couple of different things... This occurs on two MacBook Pros and a MacPro Tower. The MacPro has a second internal drive and the two laptops have external drives connected via FW800. The two laptops are using different models of LaCie drives. So it's not model specific or something related to the type of drives or connections being used.
I've repaired permissions on the source and target drives and run Disk Warrior 4.2 on them as well. I've tried running the time machine backup as a local administrator account in case it was a problem with their mobile user accounts with the same results. After doing the upgrade I had rebuilt the user's mobile accounts and in doing so did a recursive chown (sudo chown -R user:group "user's home folder") so there shouldn't be a permissions issue with these files anyway.
So it's something to do with the data that TM is attempting to copy, but if it's not permissions then what is it? I don't believe that this data just became corrupted all of the sudden as TM was able to backup all this same data under 10.5.8 only hours before the snow leopard upgrade.
My experience with Snow Leopard has been pretty good so far, but I'm seeing some serious inconsistencies with file permissions and I think this is what is causing this problem. I'm guessing it's something to do with ACLs going wonky, but insofar I've been unable to find and fix the problem. -

Go to Solution.I got the solution for above, by disabling UAC in User Accounts. Rebooted the PC, and re-started the installation and it worked.

Ebook error message: "Fail to write destination file error"
I am attempting to transfer ebooks (checked out via my library's ebook consortium) from Adobe Digital Editions to my Nook. I have done this in the past with no issues, but recently I have been getting the following error message: "Fail to write destination file error".
I know the issue is NOT lack of space on my Nook (I cleared it of all info and still received the error message).I had this problem as well, and after doing some research via google (because I found NOTHING helpful in adobe forums), I found the problem....my Nook was full. I had no idea this was even possible! But, I borrow a lot of library books, and didn't realize that after they expire, they are still taking up space on my Nook. Here's how to check: plug your Nook into your computer, go to file manager (right-click the start button in Windows), find the Nook drive and right click, choose properties. This should show you a pie chart of used/free space on your Nook. If this is the case, you need to remove some files from your Nook. For me, I had to find the Digital Editions file and delete all the thumbnails and actual files for the library books. If it's booked you've purchased, perhaps you need to archive some books. Hope this helps!
