False FileVault error : ...a volume that isn't in Mac OS Extended...

Question

I tried to turn on FileVault on different MacOS X versions (10.4, 10.5,
10.6) and different accounts (old ones and freshly created just to analyze
the problem).
I always get the following error message:
The home folder is located on a volume that isn’t in Mac OS Extended format
when all my MacOS X file systems are defined as:
Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled)
Where this false error message may come from?
Did someone further trouble shoot this annoying problem?
I highly suspect this false error message may come from the GUI.
How may I define that an account should use an encrypted volume
through the CLI (Command Line Interface)?
