Family plan texting

Do texts between two lines on the same family plan count toward each text package or are they not counted?

depends on what plan you have if you have the 250 msg it does count toward your allowance but if you have 500 it has unlimited mobile to mobile

Great Advice given earlier by SuzyQ   - I believe the question not asked of you is ---what do you want to pay for the services that you need.  I think that it would narrow the groups suggestions if you could narrow your needs.
For example: I need talk and text on 4 phones and some data say, 2 Gig, on only one of the phones. what plan is the best cost for me? You may also need to ask what the cost may be to switch to a different plan. I suspect that there will be no cost within Verizon-but ask anyway.
I do not think that you can have a smart phone on any Verizon plan unless you agree to buy data for that phone. Also, you said that wifi is often available-however, I do not believe that Verizon allows talking over wifi without consuming airtime minutes-only data over wifi avoids your allowance to be impacted.
As most here already know, several other service providers offer wifi-friendly service (talk/text/data) that will provide  home/business/restaurant service without impacting your allowance- just not here.
After getting some suggestions here, call 611 and confirm availibility and price.
Best of luck in your research.

Thank you for reaching out to us, labrylao4. Regarding the issues with messaging, is this affecting only SMS, iMessages, or both? When you or her try to send each other messages, do you receive any error messages while it is sending? If it is for iMessages, have you tried to send while connected to WiFi?

  • If I have a Family Plan, Do I need a texting bundle?

If I have a family plan with my parent's. Do I really need to buy the $20/mo Unlimited Texting Plan? Since it says in the plan that Text, Pix & Flix are included in the plan. Is it absolutely neccasary? Thank you

What family plan are you currently on?  The "Talk" plans do not include text messaging, so if you want to text cheaply, you'll need to buy a package if you on the "Talk" plan.
On the other hand, a "Talk and Text" plan includes unlimited texting for every line on the family plan, so you would not need to buy the texting package.

  • Iphone with existing unlimited texting family plan

Hi, I just got an iPhone today butt ATT has given me two different answers about my question:
I am on a family plan with 3 other family members. We have the 30 dollar unlimited text messaging that covers everyone. I was told by two people at ATT that if I picked the 20 dollar data pack for my iphone, even though it says I'll only get 200 sms texts a month, since we have unlimited texting on the family plan, the unlimited texting will override the 200 texts a month that the iphone offers.
I was also told by one person that this is not correct.. that the 20 dollars of 200 texts message will replace the unlimited texting (for only my line) that my family has.
ATT is closed right now so if anyone could give me some feedback asap I would be very happy! Thanks!

Yea, but isn't the data plan for the iPhone, iPhone specific. You know, so we can get our visual voicemail and things like that. I mean if it wasn't that way, then why would they make you have to buy it. If I'm wrong, then I'm wrong.
Ok, so you have unlimited testing for all the lines on your plan. Ok I got a little confused then, sorry about the date refrences.. I think though that what your saying about the number of texts will be correct. The rest of the lines on your plan will still have unlimited texts, but you'll be reduced to the 200 limit. You'll not have the Unlimited data as well, which is good if you surf the net a lot of the iPhone.

  • Best Text Package for Family Plan

I recently added the 250 text to my phone on a family plan with three phones. We would like to add the same package to another line on the plan - is there a better way to do it then paying $10 extra  month for just the two phones? The third user doesn't need texting but wouldn't mind having it if it were possible but just not worth it to pay extra for. help!

Thank you to the Community for all the good feedback and suggestions!

  • Questions on porting family plan lines and a prorated final bill?

Hey there! I've done some searches on the board before posting and encountered tidbits of information I found useful, but I couldn't get all of my lingering questions answered from older posts so here's my situation:
My number is the primary number on a family plan (3 lines, mine included) with Verizon, and I'm considering porting it along with the two other lines elsewhere. All three lines are no longer in a contract and are month-to-month (the 2-year agreements ended many months ago and none of the lines have been upgraded or anything since then). I'm planning to move them all to separate prepaid services through another carrier.
I'm doing my best to gather enough information about how to go about moving all three of these family plan lines with the least amount of hassle , so I've got some questions I hope I can get answered. Thanks for any assistance!
    This is my understanding:
-I'll need to contact my new carrier to have a given number ported, correct? And that line will be subsequently cancelled on Verizon's end, with no ETFs since none of the lines are tied to a contract?
-Should I port the second and third lines first and not port the primary number (mine) first, so asto not cancel all the lines of service before they're ported? I'm okay porting one number at a time AKA separately instead of all at once if that simplifies the transfer process.
-When the porting process takes place and my Verizon service is cancelled, does Verizon prorate the remaining days on my billing period from the date it's cancelled, or do they still bill up to the end of the cycle? I hear it's better to wait until the end of my billing cycle (which for me is the 9th of every month) to initiate the transfer(s) so that I don't have any billing issues, but moving all three numbers on one day (even separately) sounds kinda daunting.
-Do the phones I currently have under Verizon simply "disconnect" or deactivate once service is cancelled? Will they no longer be associated with my family plan lines and therefore be free to be resold or handed off to other family members who are using Verizon? I notice many phones on eBay/Craigslist list a "cleared ESN" as a requirement for someone to activate a used phone on Verizon and wanted to know what that was about.
Thanks for any help on these concerns!

-Should I port the second and third lines first and not port the primary number (mine) first, so asto not cancel all the lines of service before they're ported? I'm okay porting one number at a time AKA separately instead of all at once if that simplifies the transfer process.  You can do it this way - but based on your next question, you wouldn't want to do it this way.  You can't do both!!
-When the porting process takes place and my Verizon service is cancelled, does Verizon prorate the remaining days on my billing period from the date it's cancelled, or do they still bill up to the end of the cycle?  You have already paid for the current month's service - you are billed in advance for the coming month.  What WILL be billed is any texting, roaming calls, data charges, etc, that have occurred during the month that were NOT billed in advance. I hear it's better to wait until the end of my billing cycle (which for me is the 9th of every month) to initiate the transfer(s) so that I don't have any billing issues, but moving all three numbers on one day (even separately) sounds kinda daunting.   But YOU don't have to do anything - your new carrier will deal with it, and it seems to me it would be better to end the service on all three at one time, since it is one account.  You can ask your new carrier what they recommend.  There should be no issues with porting all three lines at once.
-Do the phones I currently have under Verizon simply "disconnect" or deactivate once service is cancelled?Yes - once the number is ported to the new carrier, the phones will no longer work until they are activated with another number.  Will they no longer be associated with my family plan lines and therefore be free to be resold or handed off to other family members who are using Verizon? This is correct, and another reason for doing the port at the end of a billing cycle.  Issues have come up with transfers done mid cycle - and because the account had been billed and paid for the full month's service, the phone's ESN was not released until the end of the billing cycle.  I notice many phones on eBay/Craigslist list a "cleared ESN" as a requirement for someone to activate a used phone on Verizon and wanted to know what that was about.
Thanks for any help on these concerns!
It may take several days for the numbers to fully port over and have all services working correctly, and for the old phones to be fully "released" from your account to be used on another Verizon account.  I would wait a week or so after the port, then call CS and check the ESN status of the old phones to see if they are "clear".
Hope this answers most of your questions.  Post back if you need further clarification.

  • If You Have A Family Plan Beware Of Social Beat App!!!!!!!!!

We have a family plan with 5 phones. In January of 2011 after noticing some extra charges on our bill we went to the Verizon store to investigate. We found that these charges were from texting and accessing the internet. At that time, after talking with a sales rep we upgraded our plan with more voice minutes added texting plans and blocked (we thought) the internet and bought 5 new phones.
Last month we received bill for over $1100. So we immediately drove to the store to find out what was going on. The customer service rep brought up our bill on the internet and said that one of the lines had gone way over on there minutes. When we looked at the usage screen it showed hundreds of data airtime minutes used. When I asked what they were they said someone was accessing the internet. I told them that I had blocked the line from the internet. They said they could see it was blocked but somehow they were still accessing it. By that time there were several agents gathered around the computer and all had puzzled looks on there faces. They said they would have to dig further into this and call us sometime the following week. That was a Friday and I heard nothing for 9 days. So I returned to the store, all they could tell me then was that they found that the charges were legitimate and if had any other questions I would have to call the customer service line.
After calling the customer service line and getting no answers I went to a different Verizon store and found a very helpful sales rep who helped me dig further into this and was told by someone that the the line in question was using an app called social beat to access face book over the phone. I said that I had blocked the internet from this line. They said that this was different and that these were legitimate charges. Any way, I'm still trying to get an answer that I can understand.
But you should be aware that this app comes preloaded on certain phones and that anyone can sign up and start using it without the approval of the plan administrator.
We are still trying to get something done about this and I know Verizon doesn't care but I want them to know that I am logging complaints with the BBB, the FTC, and the FCC. It may not do any good but it will make me feel better.

I know exactly how you feel, i checked my account this month and I had overage charges and called to find out and was told it is Social Beat. I said but we blocked all MB usage charges and they told me the same thing. I see that it is blocked but social beat is something else. Well then why did my phone come with it and why are yall still charging me for MB when they are blocked? There is nothing they can or will do to fix it.  So now I had to upgrade to a smart phone and pay even more money per month. Its unreal at the charges Verizon can come up with.

  • Trying to get iPhone with Family Plan.

I currently am on a family plan, and would like to get the new iPhone, if I add another line and get the iPhone will I be able to change the iPhone to another line on the Family Plan that already has the data and text packages already on it and then just use an old phone on that line that does not require a data package and just pay the $10 a month?

    Leonard1818 wrote:
Why was I under the impression that you had to buy a data plan when you add a line with a smartphone?  I too have a family share plan and if I were to add a line to the plan, I could do so for $10/month but I'd have to get a basic phone otherwise to get a smartphone it would be $10/month + Data plan for that line... That's not the case?
I am not following here. You may have been "under the impression that you had to buy a data plan when you add a line with a smartphone" because you do have to buy a data plan when you add a line with a smartphone. Furthermore, you have to keep the data plan as long as the smartphone is active on that line. If you activate a basic phone on that line at some point in the future, you can cancel the data plan as you will no longer have a smartphone on that line.
So yes, if you get a smartphone on a new line, the cost for that line will be $10/month + the cost of the data plan.
If you are only adding the new line just to get a smartphone which you can then switch to another line, you can cancel the data plan on the NEW line after the smartphone is switched to the other line because the new line will no longer have a smartphone active on it. The cost for the new line will then be $10/month.

  • Can you estimate my bill for a family plan?

So I have AT&T in America. I currently have
    the $39.99 plan - 22% employee discount (from my company) = $32
    the $25 2gb data plan - 22% employee discount = $19.50
the $20 unlimited text plan (no discount for this oddly) = $20
I plan on buying my mom an iPhone 4 and probably the cheapest text plan since she doesn't text much and get around 700 shared minutes (which will also qualify for a 22% discount).
Does she NEED a data plan? She won't use it..

    YOU:
    700 minute family talk primary line - $60.00 x 0.78 = $46.80
    2GB iPhone Data Plan - $25.00 x 0.78 = $19.50
Individual Unlimited Messaging - $20.00 (not eligible for FAN discounts)
    Total: $86.30
    YOUR MOM:
Additional Family Talk Line - $9.99 (not eligible for FAN discounts)
200MB iPhone Data Plan - $15.00 (not eligible for FAN discounts)
Individual 200 Messages - $5.00 (not eligible for FAN discounts)
    Total: $29.99
    Grand Total: $116.29 + taxes/fees/surcharges
There is also a 550 minute family plan for $50 for the primary line, and you could also get the family unlimited messaging feature for $30 if you find your mom is using over 200 messages a month.

  • Remove data plan from family plan with basic phones?

Is there a way to remove a data plan from a family plan with just basic phones on it? We used to have a $20/month basic plan until we had to get a data plan for our son's iPhone. He no longer has the iPhone with Verizon and has removed his line from the plan because he has an Android with Sprint. We also were required to use the data plan because we at one point had one of those "Hotspot" devices as a temporary solution for at-home Internet until our DSL line could be fixed. As of now we no longer have the hotspot device or the iPhone, but we still have a data plan that is patently useless because all we have are basic phones. On the My Verizon Wireless website, it says that "your text and data are now bundled with your plan" or something to that effect. I don't want to be paying extra for a useless data plan that we don't need or want because we are not in the market for fancy smart phones or tablets any time soon.
Is there any way to unbundle or detach the data plan so that we no longer have one and just have the unlimited text and calling plan without data? Our daughter is fine with her EnV Touch from 2005 and us old folks are perfectly content with the basic flip phones. Is the EnV a data phone too, in which case we should get rid of the EnV Touch in favor of an even more "basic" basic phone? She's not much of a technology buff like her brother is and has even suggested getting rid of the "fancier" phone that she has for a basic flip phone. Are we stuck with the data plan unless we break everyone off from the family plan (it's just me, my husband, my daughter, and my sister for right now) and move everyone to pay-as-you-go or no-contract? Wouldn't that end up costing more in the long run? How can we get rid of this annoying and expensive data plan that nobody on our network even uses and is causing a headache of expense?

As I understand the plans now (and this could be wrong, they change so often I get confused!!) to have the "pay as you go" data, on the More Everything, you have 700 shared minutes.  To bump up to unlimited minutes, there is an attached data plan of 500 MB, and the total cost for 4 basic phones, unlimited minutes and text, 500 MB data, is $100/mo  ($20 for each basic phone line access, and $20 for the data).  The 700 shared minutes and pay as you go data is $85.
You can change your plan at any time.

  • Used to be family plan, but now I'm down to one phone. What happens?

<< New discussion due to age of previous thread >>
I have a similar question.  I'm on a family plan with 3 lines, all out of contract.  I want to get down to 1 line, but also upgrade my phone.
Will the upgrade force me to go into a different plan for an individual and also a new or extended contract, or can I just drop the two lines, upgrade the primary line and keep my rate for the 1 line as it is now?
Message was edited by: Verizon Moderator

        Hi Sodinator,
I'm sorry to see that you're planning to leave Verizon with the two lines. If you'd like to keep the two lines out of contract but with service, there isn't any obligation of renewing service for those two. You can upgrade just the one line and get an updated phone but the family plan remains the same. If you'd rather take care of it all at once, I encourage you to disconnect the two lines on the last day of the cycle to avoid partial minutes from being alloted. You'll want to check the name of the family plan you're on as current customers can stay on Nationwide plans but move to a different rate for the one line. Follow the steps below to complete the change.
    1. Sign in to My Verizon.
    2. Locate the I Want To... section.
    3. In the PLAN column, click Change Minutes, Text or Data. The Select a plan to change page displays.
    4. Select the Share Plan which includes the line(s) to be split to an Individual plan.
Note: If there is only one plan on the account this step does not display.
    5. Click Next. The Voice, Messaging and Data options display.
    6. Select the Split Share Plan link. The Select Lines window displays the Share Plan lines.
    7. Select the line(s) you want to split from the Share Plan.
    8. Click Next. Voice, Messaging and Data options display for the line (or one of the lines) being split.
    9. Select options for the following:
    Voice
    Messaging
    Data
    10. The New Plan Total updates based on your selections. Click Next.
    11. If necessary, review/update optional features and services. A message at the bottom of the page indicates incompatible features automatically removed. Click Next.
    11. Select Effective Date. Click Continue.
    12. Review Changes to Plans and Features. Click Submit Changes.
If you have any further questions, just let us know!

  • Family Plan Question for iPhone 3G

My brother and I share a family plan together. He already has a first generation iPhone on the account and I am getting the 3G iphone when is comes out.
Will our plan go up 30 dollars when I get the iPhone setup or will it go up just 10 dollars for me adding the 3g data price on the account?
This probably didn't make any sense lol, but any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Brendan

Info I've been getting from ATT:
2g(original) remains 20 bucks for data and 200 text message
3g add 30 dollars to account and if you want text - 5 bucks for 200 messages.
10 dollars more would be only if you upgraded to 3g and gave away old iphone.
since you're keeping 2 iphones to account you need data for each iphone and its corresponding data plan. You will renew a 2 year contract with att for 3g and if eligible for upgrade you pay discount price and 18 dollars upgrade fee to appear next bill !

  • IPhone & Family Plan

Hello. I really need help here. I need to find out some information about prices.
    1. How much would it be with a family plan of 1400 shared minutes with one iPhone and two normal phones along with unlitmited texting for the iPhone?
How much monthly, though. Not at the start.
Also, I do not currently have AT&T, i'm switching so is there a difference in price there?
also how much is the average govenrment charges + surcharges?
    Thanks in advance!

    http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/specials/iPhoneCenter.html
The 1400 FamilyTalk plan is $129.99/month.
It only includes 2 lines...one additional non-iPhone line is $9.99/month.
    Unlimited messaging is $19.99/month.
So that adds up to $159.97.
As for taxes and fees, those will vary by your location. You can get an estimate of what they will be by going to http://www.wireless.att.com/customerservice/additionalcharges and putting in your zip code.
If you are still in a contract with your current cellular provider they will charge you a fee for early termination of the contract. This fee is typically $175 - $200.

  • They eliminated our friends and family plan half-way through the contract without even telling me!!!

Whatever you do get it in writing, and even then, don't believe it! We switched to a 700 minute plan over a year ago and were told it included 10 friends and family numbers. My Verizon two months ago showed us over our minutes so I went in and updated our friends and family numbers to fix the problem. Last month everything was fine. This month it showed us over our minutes again but when I went in it said we weren't on the friends and family plan! I went to the store to figure out what was going on and they said we were never supposed to be on the friends and family plan. We have been on it for over a year now which can easily be seen in our records and it was sold to us that way. That's what we agreed to pay for. Their solution? Take care of overage fees for this month and give us 5 friends and family numbers for the remainder of the contract and that's after arguing for an hour. I'm disgusted with the dishonesty and Verizon will be losing our business when our contracts are up. To add insult to injury when I started discussing the problem with the clerk, she stopped me half way holding up her finger and went to sell something to a customer that had come in three minutes after me. She actually rang him up before finishing dealing with me to get her commission!!!!! RIDICULOUS!!!!! I'm done with this crappy company. We pay out the nose and regardless of how good the network may be, it's just not worth it. They tried to make it sound like they were doing us some grand favor by offering to upgrading us to a 1400 min per month plan at full price so we could get friends and family back! No thank you!!! We already had it!!!! Absolutely unethical. Now to add icing to the cake, I read that they are doing away with the unlimited wireless broadband plan that I was grandfathered in on. Yep, we are SO gone. What a dishonest way to run a company!!!!!!!! Buyer beware!!!!

And just to note, they have slowed down our internet speeds to the point of making them nearly impossible to use so just one more reason to be gone. Oh and did I mention that unless you have a data plan on your phone, to upgrade your phone is actually a downgrade this year??? The phones they are offering for talk and text customers are ridiculous! I went through the joy of trying to upgrade my phone and used my verizon a few months back. While in the process I clicked "only show options that are compatible with my current plan" to save time. I spent hours going through the phones and picked out a great one. When I went to check out it said that phone was not compatible with my current plan. Seriously???? I called and they said no smart phones were compatible. Great! But your website needs fixed and you just wasted hours of my life!!! Went back to look at the other phones that were offered that weren't smart phones and they were AWFUL! I really do hope a LARGE number of customers leave Verizon to show them that consumers won't put up with this kind of treatment!!
