FAO: WLS IMR experts, Primary Server Choosing

Now then chaps,
          System Sun Solaris/ WLS 5.1 SP6
          no weighting, imr, jdk 122,
          proxy weblogic.HttpClusterServlet
          Cluster, & Proxy run on the same machine (different IPs though) this is
          just for testing purposes and a chance to get a hang of the admin.
          Ok, lets get to the meat
          Im have two WLS running in a cluster using IMR and accessing some custom
          JSPS that I am using for storing sessions
          and testing IMR. Oh and Im using weblogics HttpClusterProxy servlet
          I was testing fail over when and when I took down the server1, the
          second server naturally took up the slack and retrieved the session info
          and loaded the JSP, so far so good.
          However when I restarted the server1 it immediately became the primary
          server and began once again to take requests.
          is this right?
          I was of the understanding that the 'last server standing' automatically
          became the primary server and retained this status until it was taken
          down.( If this is so , what is going wrong with my config?)
          Or does weblogic reassign the primary server arbitrarily whenever a new
          server joins the cluster.

          Only new requests should be accepted by server 1. You previous request
          should still go to server 2.

          Well, when primary fails, secondary takes over as primary and creates a
          new secondary if a server is available.

          The proxy will start using the new server in the cluster for
          loadbalancing new requests.

  • Agent Primary Server Failover

    Hi All
    Can someone tell me how the adaptive agent decides to choose which server to connect to?, we have two primary servers in our zone and it always connects to the same one, even when the first primary server is switched off they agent authentication will fail.
    We moved the sybase database from one server to another and still the agent will not authenticate. So we added a DNS round robin so that the second server had the same DNS name as the primary and that kind of works (slow access) but seems like a very dodgy way of getting things to work from the second server.
    So just to clarify:-
    Server1 (First Primary On) When this is on all works well.
    Server1 (First Primary Down) The Second Zone Member Server2 does not work even when it holds the database, the agent still tries to connect to Server1.
    We make a DNS Round Robin so that Server1&Server2 resolve to the DNS of Server1.ourcomany.com it appears to work but seems a bit of a cowboy fix to me, is this really the way we would recover from a primary crash if we did not use remote databases.

    I'm guessing the failure to the 2nd Server is failing when the first server
    is down because that is your Certificate Authority.
    Are you using an Internal or External Cert?

    Hi,
    As far as I know, Gateways dont talk to each other. Why you need two GW, with one GW and report to your management servers, this way should work.

  • Upgraded ZENworks Primary Server Will Not Refresh

    Good Afternoon,
    I recently upgraded our primary server from ZENworks 11.2-11.3a.
    The upgrade procedure completed with no errors. However, the server will not refresh it's status in the ZENworks Control Center. Control Center continues to report the server as 11.2.0.0. The UI of the Control Center is upgraded. The agent continues to push back the next contact with server time without updating the last contact with server time
    Things I have tried:
    -doing a manual refresh through control center gives a "Connection Failed" error
    -doing a manual refresh with zac ref completes successfully but does not update anything
    -cleared the agent cache using zac cc
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Performance of WLS as a web server

              Hi,
              I post this on the clustering list since I'm interested in finding out the
              likelyhood of people using WLS as a web server (as well as servlet engine/EJB
              container).
              What do you prefer: WLS or Apache/IIS/NES with the plug-in?
              Why?
              Do you prefer using a front-end cluster that serves static content and load
              balances dynamic requests to a back-end cluster of WLS instances?
              Do you prefer using WLS (Express) on the front-end cluster or Apache/IIS/NES?
              If using a front-end cluster, do you use DNS RR or an external HW load balancer?
              What load balancer do you use if a cluster of WLS instances serves both static
              and dynamic content? (With possibly a separate back-end cluster for EJBs.)
              The performance of WLS as a web-server may cause some people to prefer a front-
              end Apache/IIS/NES cluster, is that right?
              Regards,
              Frank Olsen

    The main reason that 5.1 is 25% slower than NES or Apache on serving static html
    is that NES/Apache do a lot of native I/O and caching ( their code base is C/C++).
    6.1 fixed that problem, BEA use native I/O to retrieve static html and img files,
    and caching them in memory. Benchmark data shows that they are in par with NES/Apache's
    performance. It's pretty safe for you to use 6.1 to host your static contents
    and use it as web container at the same time.
    My 2 cents.

  • Script to redirect a Application to secondary server if primary server is not available in a .ini file

    Hi Team,
    I want to write a script in the .ini file of an excel add-in on the users windows system , where if the primary server is not available it should automatically redirect to the secondary server.
    Can someone help me in this?

    Hi Jrv,
    As I said its an Add-in (Twuploader) in excel which uses a ini file to connect to a server. I want the addin to connect to another available server when the primary is not available. This is the ini file content below:
    [TradeWeb]
    Host=Server1
    Port=8002
    User=abcd
    [Upload]
    AutoMode=N
    UserInt=5
    [Toolbar]
    Visible=Y
    Row=26
    Pos=1
    Top=-32000
    Left=-32000
    Let me know how to edit this ini file so that if Server1 is unavailable it should connect server2.

  • Making a Primary Server a Peer

    I am trying to follow the instructions from Zenworks 10 Configuration management system administration reference - to move a Primary server back to a peer.
    I am rolling out a 5000+ workstation Zen 10 school district and moved one of the servers into a child role attempting to troubleshoot a different issue. When I decided to move it back, I discovered contrary to the documentation the "move" feature in server hierachy stays disabled when I select my child primary server. The instructions indicate that I would check the child primary server and use the "move" feature to set the server back up as a peer. Has anyone else seen this and found a way to move a server back into a peer relationship???

  • VIP still reachable even if primary server farm is down

    Hi,
    I want to make sure that the a VIP is not PING-able anymore when the primary server farm is down (all servers are down).

    Gilles,
    I have effectively four diferent policy maps :
    - one for PROD when the client arrives withh HTTP
    - one for PROD when the client arrives with HTTPS
    - one for TEST when the client arrives with HTTP
    one for TEST when the client arrives with HTTPS
    However, the PROD and the TEST environemnts use different server farms. I am testing the icmp-reply feature on the TEST environment. In the TEST environment, both Layer-7 policy maps use the same server farm.

I have looked at the various disaster recover scenarios as provided by novells documentation 11.2 disaster recovery reference but dont see in "replacing the primary server with a secondary server" a supported option of going from Windows server 2003 32bit to Windows server 2008 64bit.
    I see this is supported in the replacing primary with a new server (eg same IP etc) but this is not the scenario I wish to follow.
    Is my direction to simply install another copy of 11.2 as a secondary primary? on my 2008 64bit, go into existing management zone, follow the directions in the above reference doc in section 2.1.
    I am wondering though with the secondary primary (2008 64bit) how do I go about moving the internal sybase from the old primary across to the new secondary. It has a reference to how to move the internal to and external sybase but I want the secondary primary (which will be the new primary) to have an internal sybase database like the old primary.
    Any help appreciated.

    Yes, that would Be ideal as it was / is my primary DSFW onsite & DNS. So the new ZCM Box would have a different name & IP.
    My thought was bring up a Second Primary in the exiting ZONE. Get it functioning / updated. (That's been an issue as well, but that will be another thread). Look at doing a DB /Content migration to the new server and shutting down the ZCM services on the old...I am sure I am missing some stuff....
    What other options do we have? I am all ears....I am assuming you / we can not do the "Import/Upgrade" routine to the OVA.

    If so, you will need to rename and change the IP address of one of them.
    We can think through different options.

  • SCUP2011 Installation & Configuration in a hierarchy having 1 CAS+4 Primary Server

    Hi,
    We have a SCCM Environment having 1 CAS server with 4 Primary Server. For third party update management, we have to install SCUP 2011. Now my question is what will be the best practice for installation of SCUP2011 in this environment.
    Thanks
    Pallavi

    Basically it does not matter where SCUP is installed. Just make sure that it connects to the topmost SUP (which should be already installed on the CAS).

  • Secondary DPM server does not show "protected server group" when attempting to protect primary server

    Hi Guys,
    I have a bit of a weird situation with DPM 2012(pre SP1). We have a primary server which is running quite happily(protects 8 SQL servers). I'm attempting to setup a secondary. When I've done this in the past with other DPM versions(this version included)
    all i have to do is this following:
    Install the same version of DPM on the "secondary machine"
    Attach the agent on the "primary server"
    Create a new protection group for everything
    The catch is that I only see the following:
    I can successfully protect the database of the primary server. However the secondary server cannot see any computers protected on the primary for some reason. Any ideas why this object doesn't show at all?

    Hi,
    At any time, was the primary DPM Server rebuilt and it's database restored ?
    Can you verify that the DPMWriter service is running.

  • DMZ Ports to Communicate with SCCM Primary Server

    Hello,
    I have searched and came to know that on firewall, following ports should be open for DMZ to communicate with SCCM primary server
    HTTP 80 and 443
    8530
    TCP 10123
    TCP 135TCP 445
    We are planning to implement a software on DMZ server which should communicate with SCCM primary server.
    Do the above ports work for communication from DMZ to Primary or if there are more ports required for it?
    Is it possible to achieve this without the SCCM client installed on the DMZ server as i would like the software to communicate via its own methods but the required ports should be open.

    Could you please provide the WMI and SQL ports which would be required.
    If we talk about generically, Are below ports enough for a DMZ server to communicate with the primary site server ?
    HTTP 80 and 443
    8530
    TCP 10123
    TCP 135TCP
    445

  • Update Primary server OS from 2008 R2 to 2012 R2

    Anyone had any experience doing an in-place OS upgrade on a ZCM primary server? I have a single primary server currently running Server 2008 R2 and would like to update it to 2012 R2. Would I be better off building a new primary server?
    Thanks

    Which version of ZENworks are you running?
    Support for Windows 2012 Server R2 was only added with the 11.3.1 Update
    for ZENworks 11 SP3 so you would need to at least be running that
    version before upgrading the Windows Server OS.
