my OS is AIX 5.2 and using oracle 10gr2
problem:SQL*Plus hangs when non dba users try to login
reason:
The customer had recently disabled archiving on the system. They had commented out all of the init<sid>.ora parameters
that enable archiving and had started up the database in
noarchivelog mode. They forgot to change the cron job scheduled to run
at night to shutdown the database to do a cold backup, then
startup the database again in archive log mode.
This will be a problem with ORACLE 7.3.X and ORACLE 8.0.X versions.
can anyone please tell me whether they had faced or will problem will arise in 9i or 10g r2 versions. i didn't experienced this till now. what will be the solution for this problem?

select sid,event,seq#,p1,p2,p3 from V$session_wait where wait_time=0 and event not like '%message%';
show parameter resource
elect LOGINS,DATABASE_STATUS,INSTANCE_ROLE,ACTIVE_STATE from v$instance;

I read Metalink Doc. ID 359145.1 (Daylight Savings changes on the Oracle databases) which talks about 2 types of patches, which are as follows.
Oracle JVM Patch
If Oracle JVM is not installed in the database, there is no need to apply this patch but question is what if we want to install JVM at a later time.
Time zone file patch.
My question is if we don't have any columns in the database of type TSTZ or TSLTZ but have some of type TIMESTAMP, is there any need to apply the patch.

Why not just run the utltzuv2.sql as suggested by the metalink doc to be sure. If this is a production database I won't not take chances.
And the doc also mentioned, some 10g data dictionary tables may use timezone awareness data type.

Is it okay to post stuff out of metalink doc id on forums ???

I was wondering if we can post part of metalink doc on the forums ??? As someone told me when i post part of the metalink doc saying i should not post metalink doc...and should only give out the metalink doc ID....altought i did give the doc id and posted part of the info ....is it okay to do that or not ?? i wanted to ask you guys ? please advise..

Under UK copyright law there is a "fair dealing" section which allows copying of material to certain extents depending on the type of media i.e. Books, Journals, Music Scores etc. and depending on the purpose of copying. For things that aren't explicitly covered in the copyright and patents act, it can be generally deduced from what is covered. So for copying stuff e.g. from metalink it may come under the books/written works details which allows for 1 chapeter or 5% of the whole (whichever is the greater), for research or study purposes. Saying that however, each case would have to be legally reviewed.
More importantly, Oracle's material comes under US law, so that's what would have to be looked at and referred to.
I can understand Oracle not wanting metalink support info publicly published as it is information that is pertinent to paying support customers. Making it public could lead to loss of revenue for Oracle.

I agreed on that it is NOT allowed to get info from metalink without the proper license.

Regarding Purchase Doc Fields

Hi All,
For one of the users, when he opens a purchase order, he is unable to enter unit price or tax code i.e he is not even able to click on the unit price and tax code. I have checked the form settings and these fields are active. Is this an issue related to authorization?? Please guide how do i proceed?

Its completely an Authorisation problem. You need to give the authorisation for tax codes in sales module also for the same user then only it will allow your user to enter the price manually as well as tax code....

a) Currently we are using Linux (oracle_10.2.0.1), so should we go ahead and apply this patch?
In the download page it has only (10.2.0.1 & 10.1.0.5) so I guess it should be OK.

In the requirements para it says .. Oracle 9.2.0.2 & above.
But below

Requirements field is the same for all patches, it's just common information what versions of perl and etc should be if You use one or another database version.

bin/wrap: ELF 64-bit LSB executable, ..................You should download 32bit or 64bit depending on what bit Linux do You have.
Be carefull and download correct version for correct operating system.

Archive process cleared-Went thorugh Metalink docs

If there are 2 archive process defined how does the archiver works
i got 2 archiver proces running resuklting in an entry in log file saying
unable to archive log actively being archived by another rpocess

Inside the V2 folder are subfolders representing your Mail accounts. The names refer to the email addresses you use.
From the Mail menu bar, select
File ▹ Import Mailboxes...
Import from the mailboxes in the restored folder. The imported messages will appear in a new mailbox. Move the ones you want to keep wherever you like and delete the rest.

Query regarding converting application tier (concurrent and reports) into shared APPL_TOP

Our E-business suite production server has four nodes configuration. 1. Application Nodes: APP1 , APP2 (Web and forms services are running on these two nodes) 2. Database Nodes: DB1, DB2 (DB-SRV - common name) (SAN storage with Active/Passive OS cluster configuration) Also the concurrent and reports services are running here.
Currently, the APP1 and APP2 application files are configured in shared APPL_TOP. It is not enabled for concurrent and reports services which is running along with database. I already checked the metalink doc id for the same.
I'm expecting your suggestion that we should take care while enabling the shared APPL_TOP for concurrent node+reports.
It would be also great, if any one give rough outline plan for the same.

Below is my plan to add the conc admin and reports server to the shared appl_top.
1. Run adpreclone.pl appsTier on the conc admin node. i.e. run adpreclone in node DB-SRV
2. Verify and enable context variable s_isAdConc, s_isAdConcDev context variables.
3. Mount the node-App1 application file system to node DB-SRV.
4. Copy the existing .rdf files(located in DB-SRV) to the shared appl_top.
5. Then run autoconfig on DB-SRV.
Can anyone review and let me know, if something is wrong here or need to be modified?

I have rac 11.2.0 with asm on Hp-Ux. I have an CRS diskgroup with external redundancy. The Unix System administrator dropped crs disk:
GRID user:           oradb
GRID home:           /oracle/product/11.2.0/grid ($CRS_HOME)
ASM disk group name for OCR:      CRS
ASM/ASMLIB disk name:      CRS_0000
Linux device name for ASM disk:      /dev/rdisk/disk27
Cluster name:           crs_desa
Nodes:                rx2
I've checked backups
rx2:/oracle/product/11.2.0/grid/cdata/crs_desa $ ls -ltr

You need to first stop the crs stack on all the nodes and then start the CRS stack on one node in exclusive mode.

Auth Group for Accounting Doc and Account authorization for Vendors

Hi guys,
I have question regarding Accounting Doc for Vendor and G/l Account. I have a security client whree I build my business roles for end user but we we configuration client where all the functional focus wokring and doing configuration. My questiion when I start creating business roles and start going into these authorization objects and filling up the field values (F_BKPF_BEK, F_BKPF_BES, F_BKPF_BLA).
I won't see auth group that will be c reated by functional cocus because they are working on configuration Client and they probably create auth group for above authorization objects in Config lcient and I'm building Roles in my security client.
If it is true what would be the best way to create business role. I'm in realization face of the project Should I build my roles in Config client? Please advise.

You anyway need to protect the namespace... and the authorizations for role development (SU24) and admin (PFCG).

We are migrating a stand alone 11g R2 Database on Linux x86-64 systems to RAC. Should I move my database files to ASM before running rconfig, or rconfig automatically does it.

Before you convert a single-instance database to an Oracle RAC database, ensure that the following conditions are met for each cluster node that you intend to make an Oracle RAC database node:

The Oracle binary is enabled for Oracle RAC.
Shared storage, either Oracle Cluster File System or Oracle ASM, is available and accessible from all nodes.
User equivalence exists for the oracle account.
If you intend to use Oracle Enterprise Manager, then all Oracle Enterprise Manager agents are configured and running, and are configured with cluster and host information.
You have backed up your existing database.
So the answer is yes, you should.
