Fast mode acquisition for 9214 with VB6

Hi
I have a VB6 app which acquires data from an NI 9214 temperature measurement device. The device has two acquisition modes, high accuracy (default) and high speed. Using MAX I can see that these modes both function in a test panel. However I cannot see how to change the mode to high speed programmatically in VB6. I'm building and running in VB6 in DevStudio 2008 on an XP virtual machine (host is Windows 7) using DAQmx 14.2. Also running the compiled executable directly on Win 7 with no problem. Just want to change the sampling mode to fast (up to 100 Samples/s for a single channel) whereas the default high accuracy mode is only 1 sample/s. Looking at transients of the order of 0.01 s over a 2 minute period.
Can anyone help with this?

Thanks. The VB6 examples are limited and none show use of the timing mode. The VB.NET samples are more extensive but I don't see timing mode settings in them either.
I'll see if I can use the AdcTimingMode property properly. I'm not a VB6 expert so whilst I've seen this property before, I guess I must have used it incorrectly.
btw - the doc for Public Property AdcTimingMode As AIAdcTimingMode specifies the difference between HighResolution and HighSpeed as the following. However I can't find anywhere the specifics of what is sacrificed to get high speed. The 9214 has 24-bit resolution in high accuracy mode but what is the actual resolution in high speed mode? Also what other functions are ommitted, for example input noise filtering, CJC etc. Can anyone point me to a document with the specifics? I assume someone at NI must know!

How do I set the printer to default in fast mode?

I want my printer to default to the fast mode rather than standard; as it is I have to adjust it for each document. How do I do that?

Every Printer driver allow you to save a set of settings.
For instance,
I defined
A4 black & white
A4 colors
listings black & white (which prints two pages on an A4 sheet)
listing colors (which prints two pages on an A4 sheet)
Do the same with your settings.
Use the item Enregistrer or the item Enregistrer sous to save your settings.

Focus point grouping for 6D with firmware change possible?

Does anyone know if it is possible with a firmware update to create an option to use just the center 9 focus points? This would make it similar to the 7D center group. I think this would be useful for some action shots. This might be one feature that may help me commit to Canon for my next camera. I am currently looking to upgrade to fullframe, but Canon seems to have taken out one feature too many in the 6D and leaves me stuck in the middle. I don't know whether to jump ship and and hassle with selling my beautiful 70-200 II zoom and the rest of the gear. As a consumer, I still like the option of a flash in certain bright background situations. Thanks.

I'm afraid you'll have to go to 7D or 5DIII to get Zone Focus or Expansion Points such as you want to use. 6D doesn't have it and I really doubt it ever will... that would be a pretty radical change to try to do via firmware... might not even be possible. But, hey, I'm no expert on writing firmware and some people manage to do some interesting camera hacks (search for Magic Lantern, for example).
But frankly, I shoot subjects like you want to shoot with just a Single Point most of the time with my 7Ds. Before that I did pretty much the same with 50D, 30D, and 10D. It takes some practice, but is the best way to insure focus is right where you want it as consistently as possible. Some days I take a couple thousand images and, with 7D and it's very quick AF, typically 97 or 98 percent are correctly focused, and I figure most of the missed focus shots are my fault, not the camera's. I had a few more missed focus with 50D and earlier, but still managed upward of 90 percent most of the time (when I was in practice).
I only use the Zone and Expansion modes occasionally on 7D. Mostly when the subject is large or is against a plain or very distant background. Otherwise the camera still might choose to focus using the wrong point.
The 5D Mark II has a form of expansion points, but it's done with 6 "hidden" Assist Points that aren'tt shown in the viewfinder, are clustered right around the center point, and only work in AI Servo mode. It's sort of as if the entire Spot Metering circle is one bid AF point. Unfortunately, this only moderately helps the 5DII with AI Servo/moving subjects. Tracking moving subjects just isn't the 5DII's forté. Only three of it's AF points are the "better" dual axis type (the visible center one and two of the hidden ones). The rest (8 visible and four more hidden ones) are single axis... some horizontal, some vertical. Heck, all nine of your 50D's AF points are dual axis type, so to some extent it has a better sports/action focus system than the 5DII. I'm not knocking the 5DII, it's a great camera for other things.... just not so much for sports/action shooting.
On 7D, 5DIII the difference between Zone Focus and Expansion is that in Zone any of the points or even multiple points can be the "starting point" for focusing. In other words, it's like one large focusing point that will pick up on whatever object covered by any of the points is closest (like a smaller version of All Points/Auto Selection). In Expansion you choose a single "starting point", but the camera can switch to using one of the adjacent points if you don't keep the starting point on the subject.
I'd recommend 7D... there are some other advantages to using a crop camera for sports, as well. It's sort of like having a "free" 1.6X teleconverter and, since a lot of sports photography is done with telephoto lenses, a cropper helps leverage your longer lenses for all they're worth. For example, I use a 300/4 IS on 7D a lot for sports, easily handheld. If I were using any of the full frame models, to fill the viewfinder the same way I'd have to get out the 500/4 iS and a solid tripod to put it on (or at least a monopod).
Yes, it's got higher frame rate, too... Though to be honest I try to avoid using it too much... 8fps fills up memory cards and hard drives fast... and can mean a lot more time spent sitting at a computer editing the results. I found 7D an excellent upgrade from 50D. The 7D has very fast AF, ideal for AI Servo work... It's got a discrete chip handling AF, much like the 1D series have. AFAIK, 6D and 5DIII don't have that.

T42P overheat - fan never kicks into "fast" mode?

I have a T42P (2373-KXU) with a 2GHz processor which seems to be overheating and yet there doesn't seem to be anything obviously wrong with the hardware. What's interesting to me is that the fan runs at a low speed most of the time and it *never* seems to kick into the fast / noisy / jet engine taking off mode during normal operation that I know and love from my T43 work laptop (although it is probably capable of doing this). I can't pin down exactly when the laptop started doing this - it's been doing it for several months but it's not usually a problem since the laptop spends a lot of its time doing fairly low intensity emailing and browsing. I'm wondering if the embedded controller firmware (3.04 - the latest) is to blame. I know that various fixes went into the firmware over the years to address a "fan pulses at full speed" issue, and I wonder if they fixed it a little too aggressively. The fan is certainly capable of the full speed mode - it does it once during boot up and one of the diagnostic tests in the Rescue and Recovery partition forces the fan to do it for a short period.
Anybody else experienced similar issues?
Here is the background....
Several times now when it was doing fairly intensive CPU and hard drive activities it would simply power off, for example during backups and virus scans.
After a couple of times (and from feeling the heat off the bottom of the case) I realised it was probably overheating. I confirmed this with Notebook Hardware Control: http://www.pbus-167.com/ - I can see the temperature climb. Generally I have the CPU in "dynamic switching" mode so most of the time the CPU is actually running at 600MHz / 0.998V - and the CPU temperature sits at around 44-48 degrees C and everything is fine. When it's very busy doing something (virus check, backup, IE getting in a twist) the clock goes up to 2000 MHz / 1.3v and after long periods the CPU temperature can sour to 80 degrees+. When it hits 95 degrees the thinkpad just switches itself off. If I put the CPU into "full performance" mode (i.e. turning off the speed-step feature and running the CPU at 2GHz all the time), the CPU temp climbs steadily until NHC starts warning me about the CPU temp.
So, my first thought was that the fan was dead, but there is a balmy breeze coming out the side most of the time along with a low volume fan noise. My second thought is that there is an accumulation of dust on the inside, or the fan/heatsink is no longer in good thermal contact with the various hot bits. I haven't checked this yet, but just before I opened it up to look it occurred to me that the fan never gets above a fairly low/quiet speed. On my work T43, when a process goes crazy and starts consuming 100% CPU I can usually tell by the fan kicking into full speed (plus a burning sensation in my lap), however, it never powers off. The T42P never seems to kick into fast mode.
The tp4xfancontrol program (http://sourceforge.net/projects/tp4xfancontrol/) doesn't seem to work for me (switching to "smart" mode doesn't appear to work) so I can't see what the effect of changing the fan speed would be. I can't find any obvious way of controlling the fan manually from within Windows. Notebook hardware control doesn't seem to have any options for affecting fan speed or the temperature at which the fan speed should change.
The next step for me is to try giving the inside a clean out or re-seat the heatsinks. I don't want to do that unless I have to for fear of breaking the laptop. I've written a support email and I'll see if this posting gets any responses.
I realise that this may be an unusual situation so please post if you have a similar situation. From what I can see the 2373-KXU was a fairly unusual model and having the 2GHz CPU in the chassis is probably on the extreme end of the heat spectrum - most of the T42Ps I've seen have slower speeds and will generate less heat. It may be that IBM / lenovo just didn't find this problem.

Dothan 2.0 CPU that you have in your machine should run nowhere near as hot as what you're decribing, so there's something very wrong there...BTW, T42p was also available with 2.1 and that was really hot...
If your machine has warranty remaining, give IBM/Lenovo a call and have it looked at.
If not, download the Hardware Maintance Manual from Lenovo's site and remove the heatsink, clean everything and re-apply some Arctic Silver...hopefully this will lower the temps...

I did the config on the CUCM for my iphone so now jabber on my iphone is connected succesfuly to the CUCM and everythings works well except desk phone intergration, I followed the process below descripted on the Cisco site but cannot understand the step below (underlined)

Step 1
Sign in to the Unified CM Administration portal.
Step 2
Navigate to the device page.
•a. In the Device Information section, click Device Association and search for the desk phone you want to associate with the mobile device.
(here my question is which device they are talking about? We have device profile for each user and we have mobility on our company and we can connect to any phone on our company with our profile, and in our CUCM I cannot find Device information or Device Association field??
•b. Select the device you want to associate with the mobile device, and click Save Selected/Changes.
•c. Navigate back to the End User page.
•d. Ensure that the Allow Control of Device from CTI check box is checked.
•e. Select the primary extension for the desk phone you want to associate with the mobile device.
•f. In the Permissions Information section, add Standard CTI Enabled to the User Groups list.
For 8900 and 9900 series phones, also add Standard CTI Allow Control of Phones supporting Connected Xfer and conf.
•g. Note the user ID of this user for use later in this procedure.
•h. Select Save.
Step 3
Navigate to the Device Information page for the desk phone you want to associate with the mobile device.
•i. Verify that the value for Owner User ID is the correct end user.
•j. Ensure that the Allow Control of Device from CTI check box is checked.
If this option does not appear in the Device Information section of the Phone Configuration window, the phone does not support this feature.
•k. Select Save.
Step 4
Navigate to the Cisco Dual Mode Device for iPhone page.
•l. Verify that the value for Owner User ID is the correct end user.
•m. In the Product Specific Layout Configuration section, for CTI Control Username, enter the user ID from the End User page.
•n. Select Save.
Step 5
Navigate to the Directory Number Information page and verify:
the Allow Control of Device from CTI check box is checked
the Associated Devices box displays the desk phone and the mobile device
Step 6
Restart the mobile device and the desk phone.

By 'Use Mobile Network' I am assuming that you want to transfer the VoIP call to GSM using the Mobility Softkey on the iPhone. There are a couple of defects that you should be aware of when using this functionality:
1) CSCtu15500 - Call drop after user handoff VoIP call to mobile using Anyconnect (VPN)
2) CSCty91386 - Client can't handle send-to-mobile message
Workarounds: For the first defect, if you are using AnyConnect (VPN), please try transfer to mobile, with out using VPN. The the second defect, you must use the US English as the User Locale.

Can someone suggest an affordable external hard drive for use with FCPX and video editing on my Macbook Pro Retina

I have a Macbook Pro Retina from 2012 and I only got the 250GB hard drive. I'm getting ready to purchase a Panosonic HC-X920 to use with Final Cut Pro X already installed on my laptop. Since I know the file sizes are going to be so big, can anyone suggest an affordable external drive fast enough to keep up with editing the video? I'm not a pro and use it for family and personal projects.
I prefer some thunderbolt options since I haven't had a chance to use the inputs since I got my macbook pro. I just don't know what is necessarily too little or too big and too cheap and too expensive for my needs. Thank you.

Firefox keeps prompting me for password with the popup

Firefox at my work computer keeps prompting for password with the popup message "The proxy moz-proxy://proxy:9119 is requesting a username and password. The site says: "moz-proxy://proxy:9119"" This happens too often,even If i provide the username and password I get the next popup with same message.
Its very annoying, I am not finding web better because of this, I goggled and figured about the config settings of - network.automatic-ntlm-auth.allow-proxies and the other one not working.
I guess I am missing the PAC URL or something which I remember like solved the problem sometime back but not in same domain though.

The apple ID was his personal account and can no longer gain access. Im sure I can get purchase recipts from the accounting department if needed. I tried to put the Ipad in restore mode and used itunes to "recover" the ipad but it still wont let me in because he registered the device with the "lost iphone" feature or whatever that is.

Best hard drive for use with Time Machine

Hi,
Has anyone determined what the best external hard drive is for use with Time Machine? Is there a particular one that works exceptionally well with Time Machine, or is it much of a muchness?
I'm looking for a Firewire 400 & Firewire 800 drive that STAYS ON all the time, and doesn't automatically spin down or spin up like the rubbish WD My Book drives do.

I can't tell you if it is the "best" hard drive for you to use with TM, but I'm quite happy with the 500 GB Buffalo Technology DriveStation Combo TurboUSB I bought recently. It is quiet, quite inexpensive for the capacity (I paid about $120 for one on sale at Fry's), & completely compatible with OS X & TM.
Best of all for me, it automatically powers down when my iMac sleeps. It also spins down after a time if the Mac's Energy Saver preference "Put hard disk(s) to sleep when possible" is checked; otherwise it remains spun up until the Mac is put to sleep or switched off.
It comes with "Turbo" USB & Memeo "AutoBackup" software, neither of which I installed. (The box didn't claim these extras came in a Mac version but both Mac & Windows versions were included on the CD.) Out-of-the-box, I reformatted the drive with the Apple Partition Map scheme & two partitions, a 160 GB one for cloning my internal drive & the rest for TM. The drive works perfectly for both uses & seems quite fast, as one would expect from a 7200 rpm SATA drive.

What is better Mac Mini or Mac Pro and 4K 40" screen or iMac 5K for work with Exel

I am working on Macbook pro retina for around 16 hours a day, it is ok but the screen is to small. I am opening about 25 - 30 EXCEL windows, 20 - 25 safari windows at the same time. Excel windows are small, they only show 40 rows and S column Now I am considering buying iMac 5k ( but the screen is only 27", however a very high resolution but I think that fonts and digits displayed may be too small ). I am also considering Mac Mini or Pro with 40" 4K TV ( 4k computer monitors are 27 - 31" , so better idea would be purchasing iMac 5k ) . The problem is that 40 - 42" TV don't have Display Port ( I can't find it anywhere )
Please help me to choose what would suit my needs better. I need large screen to work comfortably with an Excel sheets. What is better? Mac Mini or Mac Pro and 4K 40" screen or iMac 5K for work with Excel ?. The other problem I have is that when I spend 16 hours at work with retina macbook , my eyes are ok. Using the 30'' Dell screen 2560/1440 my eyes are tired after 2 hours.

Currently you can only get 4 K at 30 Hz via HDMI. Some users have reported jerky curser movement because of the 30 Hz.
I would go for the 5K iMac. You can add a second screen at 4K.

Why does Yahoo Mail suddenly have problems for me with this browser?

I was using it fine no problem (except for yahoo's own stuff and maybe some add ons stuff) with the firefox browser itself. although, for some reason, just in the past couple of days, there has been something else. whenever I try to click to move an email to another folder or mark something as read it won't click at all. it also won't mark the email as read when I open it either. I tried disabling add ons, restarting the browser, refreshing the page, logging in and out all of these things multiple times. nothing works! what's the problem?! I have had SO many problems with browsers in general lately and especially just yahoo mail stuff so much, why?! what is going on?! PLEASE HELP!

Hi Rosa, speaking of extensions, do you use any extensions that filter content, either annoyances such as ads, or privacy threats? As a quick way to determine whether extensions are affecting your use of Yahoo! mail, could you try the site in Firefox's Safe Mode? If you select the indicator"original list"the current task status is ignored.In this case,the system simulates a task run in with all of the organisational units are not yet blocked.Thus,setting this indicator is meaningful and valid only if the task is executed in test mode at tthe same time.

I have recently had to reinstall windows xp on my laptop as the moder board crushed
while the installation was done by a professional, since then everytime i plug my 30gb fifth generation ipod to synch with my Itunes library the following message appears:
"The software required for communicating with the ipod is not installed correctly. Please Reinstall Ipod to reinstall the ipod's software."

I tried to reinstall itunes over twenty times, sometimes deleting it beforehand using the task messenger, but no use.
I have checked to see if my ipod works with other computers and he does, therefore its a problem of the itunes, or my computer.
I am reaching desperation, as i am unable to update and synch my ipod for over a month now.
i need either a solution or a way of maybe installing an older version of itunes, which may work.
can anyone help?
