Fax success on ATA?

I know the Cisco ATAs (186 & 188) support faxing through G.711, potentially also with passthrough configured on CME, but can anyone provide comments on their experience doing this?
Is it easy enough to attain 14.4kbps speeds on the fax?
We're looking at using ATAs to replace some POTS lines in a small office. The ATAs will be on the same LAN as CME and will be sending and receiving faxes via two BRI ports on the CME system (2801).
I'm looking more for comments on how well it works rather than pointers to documentation on how to do it. (which I already have)

I have tried almost everything I can think os  s3-to-g3, fax rate disable, ecm disable of the dial peers setting the rate to 9600 on the ata all with no success.  thx

  • Unable to fax between two ATA 187 attached fax machines

I have two fax machines attached to the VOIP network using ATA 187's using the T38 fax relay.  I am unable to send faxes between the two devices.  Has anybody experienced this issue and if so what did you do to resolve the issue.  Tried fax passthrough with no luck.  Also set the dial peer on the voice gateway to use the T38 fax protocol.  Thanks for any info.

Looks like I just answered my own question.  Since both of these devices are on the internal VOIP network, 4 digit dialing between devices worked.  I am able to send between the two ATA attached fax machines.  Originally I was trying to go outside, using 9xxxxxxx, which did not work.

  • Cannot send/receive fax reliably. ATA 187, CUCM 10.0, 2911

We have had ongoing issues with not being able to send/receive faxes reliably since we've installed this new phones system (previously we were on a Nortel system).
We are trying to fax using HP 4345 MFP, HP 3035 MPF, Richo MP 171.
Often faxes fail to send with a remote disconnect error or when we receive we only get about 1/2 of the page.
Where do I start looking first?  Is it the ATAs, CUCM, Voice Gateway or a combination?

  • Faxing using ATA's and/or VG's

Running into a situation with fax machines.  I am in the process of pulling all of our fax machines into the VOIP environment versus individual POTS lines for each fax.  I am able to fax between two ATA attached fax machines or an ATA attached and a VG attached within my local site using 4 digit dialing with no problem, but when I try to do the same to another location I receive a status sheet indicating a hang up or line failure.  All sites are part of the same VOIP infrastructure, with a publisher and subscriber at our main site and a subscriber at a secondary site.  There is a gateway (3900) at each location. The senior UC engineer and myself believe it is something on the gateways between sites, but we have not figured out what we are missing.  Any thoughts or ideas will be appreciated.  Thanks.

It is very important that the faxing method, such as T38, fax pass-through, etc., match between the ATAs, VG analog devices, and the PSTN voice gateways.  If it doesn't match, you could have issues with faxing.  The specific settings will depend on the exact equipment, protocols, and PSTN connection.

  • Configuring ATA 186 for Fax service

    hello ,
I have configured the ATA on the callmanager. If i connect the Phone on the along port and make a incoming as well as outgoing call it works. Now i have connected the Fax machine to the port. and I m trying to send / recieve the fax from the PSTN network. But its not happening . I have use the Fax Mode on ATA as well as on gateway router which has FXO port to connect to the pstn network. and using conncetion plar to connect frm PSTN to IPT network.
I have done the config as per cisco document like Audio mode : 0x00120012 or 0x00150015
    LBrcodec :1 or 3
as per cisco doc in Fax mode i have to use 0x00120012 config but if i do tht then i don't get fax tone. but if i use 00150015 i do get fax tone but no handshake.
Can you plese give me the solution for this
    thanx
    anand

The factory default value for AudioMode is 0x00150015, which is to send DTMF out-of-band if remote end supports it.
The following are the possible DTMF transmission selection.
0x00050005 = Sets both lines to always send DTMF inband
0x00150015 = Sets both lines to always send DTMF out-of-band if remote end supports it.
0x00250025 = Sets both lines to always send DTMF out-of-band
0x00350035 = Both lines do not send DTMF.
The General principle is as follows:
If the ATA is only used for FAX (not for voice calls), use 0x00120012 (Fax Mode). If some ATAs are used for voice calls but you can afford bandwidth, then still use 0x00120012 (Fax
Mode). If bandwidth is the issue, then use the 0x00150015 (Fax Passthrough)

Is your call hitting the gateway at all?  or are you having problems with internal?
if external, debug voip and q931 and provide output

  • Have a MX470. Only faxed about 15 times 10 of those not successful. Now it won't send fax

Bought a MX470 less than a year ago. Canon by phone helped me set it up. Worked a few times now it won't send out a fax. Printed out Activity Report.  Mixtures of Modes TRANSMIT, AUTO RX, MANUAL TX, MANUAL RX. Only about 5 went through in the result column and the mode was transmit. The remaining results indicate NG with the above Modes changing each time. What have I done?

    Hi grandma,
Please ensure that the phone line attached to your printer has not become disconnected from the unit.  Once this has been verified, you can try disabling the dial tone detect function of the fax to see if this will allow you to fax successfully. To do this, please follow these steps from the operation panel of the unit:
    1.  Press the FAX button.
    2.  Press the SETUP button (looks like a pair of pliers and a screwdriver).
    3.  Use the left/right arrow buttons to select FAX SETTINGS, then press the OK button.
    4.  Use the left/right arrow buttons to select ADV. FAX SETTINGS, then press the OK button.
    5.  use the left/right arrow buttons to select DIAL TONE DETECT, then press the OK button.
    6.  use the lef/tright arrow to select OFF, then press the OK button.
    7.  Press the FAX button to return to the main fax screen, then attempt to fax again.

  • Question on SAP Fax Connector

    Here's the query:
    Background:
SAP R/3 application will produce a few type of reports/document (Order Confirmation/Payment Remittances etc) These reports/documents then have to be faxed or email depending on the user preference. The process that generates these reports is typically a batch process. The status of the fax (Success/Failure/Waiting) has to be updated back in SAP.
    Questions:
In the above scenario - how to implement the fax part?
Is a 'SAP Fax Connector' needed for this?
or in other words - Can this be achieved without a Fax Connector?
If yes, what are the advantages/disadvantages of both methods.

    Hi Sanjana,
Its better not to touch the standard sap generated program for the query, better choice would be copy the program to Z program and then make the changes what ever you require.
Then create the tcode for that zreport and execute it and you can transport it to other environments.
you can directly give the tcode to the process folks.

  • Stopped Faxing. Endless message "Preparing to send the fax document."

I have intel iMac and external Apple modem, I use it continuously to send faxes. Today when I attempted to send a fax the normal message appeared "Preparing to send the fax document." However it stayed forever and nothing happened for an hour. I trashed this fax, tried again, restarted computer - the same story. I tried to send faxes from different applications - the same.
The only new thing I did after I sent last fax successfully - I installed new upgrade to my 10.5.1 - some improving stability patch from Apple two days ago.

Hey, discard this question. I just did it with DropBox and it was as easy and quicker than with iCloud.

I have an Officejet 6210 All-in-One.  I recently sent some faxes successfully, and could not use the printer immediately thereafter.  The fax is still working but there is an error message for scan copy or print  which says  NO CONNECTION--TURN ON CONNECT COMPUTER OR INSTALL/RUN DEVICE SOFTWARE    which I'm not savvy enough to understand or do.  Thanks, irret

Hi can you navigate to the Start menu and then into HP and the HP Solution Center? From within that, select settings (probably on the lower right side of the HP Solution Center screen. In settings, click on Printer Settings where you can change the defaults for your printer.

  • OfficeJet Pro 8600 All-in-one can't fax

Using Arris 722G cable modem.  Connected line-1 to 1-line and phone handset to 2-ext.  Phone gets dial tone; voice calling working fine.  Select FAX from printer front panel, phone-pad appears.  Pick up telephone handset, printer screen changes to "Fax Mode" selection screen --- so printer can tell that phone is off-hook.  Put telephone back on hook, FAX screen changes back to dial.  Dial a number, send FAX, can hear "click", but no dial tone detected by FAX machine. What other settings, or tests should I run?

HI , Yes, the 4 wire phone cord could be part of the problem. Continue to read through the document I provided. Solution one: Check the fax connectionsIf the dial tone is  not being detected you need to check the connections and phone line. I would recommend getting a 2 wire phone cord to replace the 4 wire. Solution one: Check the fax connectionsUse the following steps to check the physical connections, and then test the fax.Step 1: Check the physical connectionsDisconnect the telephone cord from the printer, and then examine the connector on the end of the cord. Make sure that the cord has only two wires. If you see four wires, replace the cord with one containing only two wires.Figure : Example of a two-wire telephone connectorFigure : Example of four-wire telephone connectorImportant! HP recommends you use the phone cord that came with your printer to connect the printer to the telephone wall jack. Otherwise, you might not be able to fax successfully. This special phone cord has only two copper wires. If you have the cord that shipped with the HP printer and it is long enough, use that cord.If you must use a cord with four wires, use a converter. A converter allows a cord with four wires to work with a device that requires a cord with two wires. If you must use a cord with four wires, use a converter.
