FCE-No quit option after quicktime export...
Hi everyone,
I've noticed that after saving a large movie as a quicktime file, that FCE does not give me the option to save and then quit. It saves the initial project fine, but I've had to force quit FCE from the dock.(maybe i don't have to?)
After this I have been fine to drag the FCE movie file to iDVD and burn away, so no probs there, but I'm curious as to why the application is still... I suppose "in use" having finished converting the file to Quicktime. (I hope this makes sense).
The only reason I've wanted to quit FCE was to ease the workload on the machine from having large apps./projects open whilst it's trying to burn.
Am I being over-cautious here?
BTW, the discussions here have been a fantastic help in my first 2 months with FCE, cheers to all contributors !!
PB 1.67, eMac 1.25 Mac OS X (10.4.5)
I don't know the differences between FCE and FCP, so not sure how much help I'll be...
I can't imagine you should be having to force quit FCE after an export. Could be corrupt preferences...
search this forum or FCE forum for 'FCP Rescue'. There may/may not be a version for FCE, but it might help. There are also manual processes for this as well.
Hopefully someone else may chime in with better info.

White Screen in ITUNES after Quicktime Export. Samsung CL65
I have a Samsung CL65 digital camera. When I shoot movies I transfer them from my camera to IPHOTO, along with my pictures.
When I open the movie in IPHOTO it opens in QUICKTIME and there is an option to EXPORT TO ITUNES. No matter what quality I select (Iphone - Appletv) the result after the export in ITUNES is always a movie WITH SOUND but with a WHITE SCREEN for video.
I have 3 digital cameras, samsung, panasonic and canon. I only have this problem with Samsung. The video file that the Samsung camera makes are mp4.
I want to be able to export from Quicktime to Itunes without getting a white screen movie with sound. Any ideas????I want to be able to export from Quicktime to Itunes without getting a white screen movie with sound. Any ideas?
The Samsung video codec does not appear to be "conversion compatible" with any application employing the QT embedded structure. It took me over an hour to find what I assume to be a true, non-YouTube converted "CL65/ST1000" sample file for testing purposes (i.e., it would have been a lot quicker if you had uploaded a sample file for testing) before actually running a series of tests under both Leopard and Snow Leopard. Basically, it seems you can use an alternative application which contains its own codec and does not need to "prepare" the file content before initiating the conversion. I found that the free HandBrake application which defaults to the X.264 codec worked for me. As I consider not changing the frame rate rate to be more important then retaining full 720p dimensions, I only ran tests using a 960x540 @ 30 fps setting for TV device. -
IPhoto 6.0.6 slide timer error after Quicktime export
After a slideshow has been exported to Quicktime, the adjustment arrows for "Play this slide for x seconds" in the "Adjust This Slide" window are gone, and individual slide timing can no longer be adjusted for the slideshow. Anybody know how to fix this?
MacBook (intel) Mac OS X (10.4.9) same problem on PowerPC Mac MiniJanis
It can't. After export it's no longer a slideshow, it's a quicktime movie. You need to make these decisions before export.
If timings are critical to you, then iPhoto may be too basic a tool. You can also create slideshows in iMovie and in apps such as PhotoToMovie with a lot more fine control.

Video "pops" after quicktime export
exported my sequence (apple pro res 422 1280x720 59.94) as a straight quicktime movie export using current settings and make movie self contained. when i play the quicktime, there are "pops" - the picture jumps either forward at a fade up from black or jumps back at a fade down to black. the "pop" happens right at the end of the transition if there's fade up or the first frame of the transition if it's a fade done. the fades are to & from slug (black). it's as simple as it could be. also when lower third titles fade up & down on track two the same thing happens. i've rendered everything which i thought was overkill. i'm going to try exporting using compressor next. i've never seen this happen before. any ideas? thanks.
michael, the orig clips are pro res with exactly the same settings as the sequence setings.
using compressor as opposed to using make quicktime movie did make the sequence without the "pops" or jumps that i was getting using make quicktime movie though it took twice as long. since i have a bunch of these to do and they're 2-2 1/2 hrs long would prefer to use qt as opposd to compressor.
if anyone has any ideas i'd appreciate it. like i said as soon as the fade up from blk/slug ends, the picture jumps forward. conversely at the exact frame the fade out begins the picture jumps back. however when the quicktime of the sequence is reimported and played back in fcp, the jumps are not there. wondering if there is prob at all but obviously "something" is funky otherwise qt player wouldn't being having difficulty playing the clips. thanks. -
Irritating bug: playback final cut loses sync after quicktime export
this bug is bothering me for years already, and with every update i hope it will be fixed, but no.
everytime i export a quicktime (file/export/using quicktime conversion) final cut loses its sync in playback. then i have to restart fcp and the sync is ok again.
it's not a big problem, but it's irritating, especially when i have a director sitting next to me.
did anybody ever have this problem also? how can we ask apple to fix this?everytime i export a quicktime (file/export/using quicktime conversion) final cut loses its sync in
playback. then i have to restart fcp and the sync is ok again.<</div>
Exporting what? And why? You mean each time you export something FCP stops working properly?
it's not a big problem, but it's irritating, especially when i have a director sitting next to me.<</div>
It's a huge problem, obviously. But I think your workflow is more at fault. You havent' explained why you must export something or to what format so it's difficult to know where to point you for debugging this for you.
did anybody ever have this problem also? how can we ask apple to fix this?

I don't have this issue and I export something form my timelines often, either as still images or to provide myself with a prerendered movie that I can reimport.

Only some audio is off sync after Quicktime export
I am cutting simple man-on-the-street interviews together to build a narrative. I am shooting on a Sony HVR-V1U in HDV. I import everything fine, edit it, then export to QT using the following settings:
H.264
Video bitrate: 1372 kbits/sec
Frame rate: 29.97 for 25fps
Frame size: 640x360
Multi-pass
Quality: High
Sound: Format: AAC
Sample rate: 44.1 kHz
Stereo channels
128 kbps bitrate
When I play the QT, some of the voices are fine, but others the video is off sync from the audio by around 15 framse, and I have NO IDEA WHY. I've tried messing with the settings, re-importing, and nothing works. And the fact that it happens to some clips and not others, has left me just baffled. I've had to just re-export manually adjusting the audio. Anyone else have this problem? Any solutions or advice that I could at least try?
Thanks!
MikeThanks for the tip but I was trying to avoid having to put the clips into a video editor because that tends to cause it's own problems with sync as well. I actually found my answer via an obscure link to some comment on a forum detailing that .wav files (which I was using) will NOT stay in sync in Flash (regardless of the version) due to the particular way Flash compresses them. I switched all the audio to .aif and bam... instant sync. It sure would be nice if the default sound format Adobe uses in thier own Audition program would be compatible with ther own software! After all, wasn't that what the whole unification of the Creative Suite was about? So that all of their 'suite' would work with each other seamlessly?

Selecting Quicktime Export Conversion from the Export menu kills FCE.
This used to work for me. Since upgrading to SL I've been experiencing the problem of FCE just quitting without an error on the screen when I select the export with quicktime conversion option. I've looked around and I was unable to locate anything that appears to be a solution. I thought I'd add that I found the following error message in the Console Log.
11/15/09 5:01:09 PM [0x0-0xe20e2].com.apple.FinalCutExpress[2441] objc[2441]: Class ProMetadataQTMDStorage is implemented in both /Applications/Final Cut Express.app/Contents/MacOS/../Frameworks/MIO.framework/Versions/A/MIO and /Applications/Final Cut Express.app/Contents/MacOS/Plugins/QTM Reader.bundle/Contents/MacOS/QTM Reader. One of the two will be used. Which one is undefined.
Any thoughts?Ian and Tom, thank you for your ideas. I'm reluctant to do a wipe and re-install as you can imagine. I use my computer for more than just the occasional FCE project and it would involve a lot of work. I just tried the removal of the preferences and FCE is still not working with the quicktime conversion yet. Export to Quicktime without conversion works fine. Hmmm... I have reinstalled FCE and updated to 4.0.1 but that didn't change anything. Perhaps I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling Quicktime 7 and see if that changes anything - though the error message seems to indicate some confusion in FCE and not quicktime.

After Effects error: Quicktime export failed - Out of memory (-108)
I am using CS3 After Effects and have been receiving this After Effects error: Quicktime export failed - Out of memory (-108). Can anyone help with this issue?
I am using a Mac Pro 6-Core Intel Xeon 2.66 GHz with 6 memory slots at 1GB DDR3 ECC at Speed 1333MHz.Sounds like one of those many "old version of AE on new hardware" issues... You may need to fiddle with Rosetta or install it in teh first place, if you haven't already and you may also require a specific older version of Quicktime...

Poor Quality of Photo JPEG Quicktime Export PPro CS4
Adobe Premiere Pro CS4
2 Xeon Dual Core 3.2 Ghz
2 GB RAM
XP SP3
Nvidia 8600 GT
The program that I use for presentation (ProPresenter) prefers Quicktime files rendered in the Photo JPEG format. I render it from a HDV 1080i 60 time line to a 1280x720 file.
In CS3 this worked great. In CS4 when I render it out, the file looks terrible. I even bumped it to 100% quality (normally I do about 85% in CS3)
The video has bad posterization and looks like it has been rendered at a low bit rate, which I think may be what is happening. CS3 didn't let me set the bit rate, and neither does CS4, but 2 minute files took about 700 MB to 1 GB after being exported in CS3. The resulting files in CS4 are 150 MBs.
The bit rate option when Photo JPEG and many other Quicktime codecs is selected, is greyed out and cannot be set.
So what can I do? I NEED to be able to export to Photo JPEG at high quality. Why would Premiere not allow me to set a bit rate, but more over, use such a low one? At least in CS3 it chose a high bitrate for you.
Am I missing something? Are others having this problem with Quicktime exports?
Here is the output from CS3. Some banding in the bacground gradients, but that's to be expected with JPEG.
Here is the output from CS4. Banding is much worse, jaggedy posterization, obvious artifacts. All of this becomes even more apparent with motion.I would like to follow up a little bit. After talking to my friend, the bitrate problem was addressed in the 4.1 patches and exporting to Photo JPEG at least was fixed, at least that's what he told me and from his description of the problem, I'm quite sure he knew exactly what I was talking about.
But still, after he listed his annoyances such as the much longer render times, and an interface and timeline playback that just never seems to be quite fast enough to keep up, I long for the simple interface of Premiere 6.5 with updated HD capabilities. Every step since then has made the interface more unnessarily resource intensive.
I don't think I'll be upgrading to CS4, sorry Adobe. Please stop making Premiere for super machines. I have a very good computer, and it's having trouble running Premiere CS4. It doesn't NEED to be this resource intensive. It doesn't have to bog down when it's run on anything but the best of the best computers.
In a simple A-B-C comparison, the speed of playing an HD clip with a couple effects goes down and down and down as you go from Pro 1.5 -> CS3 -> CS4. Why? What other areas are so improved that we need to have such a slowdown of the core?
Sorry, I'll stop venting now. I was just so hoping that I could recomend we upgrade to CS4 and solve some of our CS3 problems. -
Quicktime Export causing Out of Sync Audio?
I'm trying to export a self contained Quicktime movie from my timeline, and every time I try, the audio ends up being out of sync. What am I doing wrong?
The audio is set to just the defaults, 16 bit, 48khz.
Sequence settings: HDV1080p30
When I bring the final exported movie back into FCP, it plays out of sync.
Exporting through the Share feature to bluRay resulted in perfect sync audio, so I'm at a loss as to why this isn't working.
Please help!Allright, since nobody out there seems to have the answer - I'm going to share what I discovered so that the next person will actually get an answer without having to spend hours and hours finding it in other forums. Here goes:
Problem: Audio plays in sync on the timeline, an export from the timeline through Share to bluRay results in correctly synced audio; but a Quicktime Export with current settings results in a final movie where audio is out of sync with the video.
Solutions: I found two solutions to this problem:
1- When exporting to Quicktime Movie, check "recompress all frames". This solution had mixed reviews, with lots of people saying you should never do this, as it will reduce the quality of your final output; while others said the reduction in quality was not noticeable to the naked eye. I guess you can try it and be the judge.
2- In your sequence settings, change the compression setting to Apple Pro Res. This is the setting I decided to go with, as I'm currently awaiting the 10 hour render.
I did do a quick and dirty test on the ProRes option, where it appeared to work. Since the audio is correctly synced in the beginning of the video and then slowly falls out of sync (obviously the 30p to 29.97 problem), I had to run a test using my entire sequence. If you run a test on a 2 minute sequence, it will appear to be correct, because it is a slow falling out of sync issue - the problems occur later in your project (just fyi). Here is what I did (in case you want to try it on your project):
I created a new sequence and then changed the compression setting from HDV1080-30p to Apple Pro Res 422. I dragged my sequences into this sequence (so they were nested). I unlinked the audio and then selected about a 20 second area from about 3/4 of the way through the project. I sliced this section and then removed all the video before and after (so it would speed up render time and only render black, but I would still be able to see if the audio synced up later - I hope that makes sense - this made my export time only 12 minutes). After it exported, I reimported the movie, found the little 20 second area, and it was correctly synced. So, now I am exporting the whole thing. I sincerely hope this works. I don't have lots of 10 hour blocks just lyin' around!
Since my audio issue was most likely due to the fact that I captured and edited in 1080 30p, I believe it must be a bug in FCP that exports the Quicktime movie in 29.97 regardless of whatever your sequence settings are (believe me, I tried to change it to 1080-30p and it didn't work). That is why I think the Apple Pro Res option works, but it involves a total re-render of your project. This is also why I believe it plays fine in the timeline, because my timeline was set to 30p. Again, I also believe that is why my export to BluRay through Share resulted in correctly synced audio - the bluRay export I believe uses the Pro Res codec (which, by the way, took 19 hours).
Wish Apple would fix this bug.

SQLDeveloper - application without response after using export menu
Hello,
I am using 1.2 newest version with SUN SDK 1.5.09 and XP-Prof (2GB RAM) at 10G.
After executing the sql-script the result data can not be exported. After using the right-click menu for export to CSV, EXCEL ... SQLDeveloper hangs for quit long time without any activity or resonse within the Task-manager of the OS. I have to quit the task of SQLdeveloper.
Running short result queries (~25 lines) the export function works fine.
Is there any parameter to set at startup of the program?
With best regards
MartinUnfortunately, the running the query again on export bug (which is not dependent on type of export) is not fixed in the current EA1. With tracing on, exporting "select * from <table>" shows the following in the trace file:
select * from <table>
Parse x 1, Execute x 1, Fetch x 156 (7778 rows in chunks of 50)
select * from ( select "COLUMN1","COLUMN2",...,"COLUMNn" from ( select * from <table> ) )
Parse x 1, Execute x 1, Fetch x 1 (50 rows)
My guess (from 1.2 experience) is that this second query which only fetches once is run after selecting one of the export options and before the export dialog is displayed. If this first fetch takes five minutes, then there will be a five minute delay after selecting the export option, before the export dialog appearing. -

Quicktime export to dv format (preferably PAL)
Hmmm,
I just read Karsten's post and I think I already know the answer but ...
I really need to be able to export a slideshow from iPhoto to DV PAL format. For some reason I can't understand, iMovie produces really bad moire interference patterns with my mum's still photos in the Ken Burns effect, but iPhoto doesn't. I can work around this if I can just do the photo animation and transitions in iPhoto then export to iMovie to add captions, titles, music, voice overs and chapter markers.
The highest quality export I can find is 640x480 which is virtually useless to me. Karsten's post suggests that the frame rate is for NTSC and I need PAL.
I was certain this was possible in previous versions of iPhoto - am I correct.
Why does Apple keep taking away the things I want - firewire, replaced iMovie HD with iMovie 08 (yuck!), export options (what have I missed?)
Anyway, I'm hoping someone can point me at a workaround that isn't too complicated for my mum.
SteveNeither iPhoto 4 or 5 has a PAL option under the Quicktime export, only size options. Which iMovie version are you having trouble with? If it's V7 try downloading and usingiMovie HD 6 which has been made available to iLife 08 users who want the many features of V6 that were dropped out of V7.
An alternative that I suggested in the topic with Karsten was using QT Player to convert to PAL after exporting out of iPhoto. It creates a larger file but if you're going into iDVD it will be encoded again. The extra encoding may lessen the image quality but you'd have to give it a try, save the iDVD project as a Disk Image (File->Save as disk image) and play the disk image with DVD Player to see how the encoding went before committing to disk (burn with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available).
Happy New Year
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard. -
Flash and quicktime export not possible at all!
hi iwork dev team!
as there was no result on my prev post, here again:
i use keynote'08 4.02 on imac with 2gb and osx 10.5.2.
i created a presentation with 15 slides and over all 16,5 minutes.
each slide has a mp3 sound file attached (the speakers voice recorded externally).
now i am facing following problems on *export to flash* (export is around 18mb):
1) synchronization of voice and effects is different than inside keynote - i fixed this by changing times and export/test cycles, as long until i run sync in swf (please make it sync - this is terrible).
2) starting with slide 13 some objects do not appear - in further slides many objects do not appear. the sound and time is ok, but not much to see. if i split the presentation into 2 parts, the export works fine, all objects appear in all slides, but i found no way to combine those 2 swf files....
3) in one slide i found out that the order of appearing/disappearing objects confuses the swf export, so that many objects afterwards are not at all shown.... i played around long and splitted the slide in 2 slides and with some workarounds i got it show all objects.
4) it would be great if at least some transitions and most effects would be supported and times of effects would be the same inside keynote and in exported swf.
*exporting to quicktime*:
1) first i had one large mp3 for the whole presentation and added it as soundtrack and synced it inside keynote. exporting this to quicktime made it run async. but at least export was possible for the full presentation.
2) i splitted the mp3 for each slide and added each mp3 to each corresponding slide. this way i made it possible to export to swf (see above). but quicktime export now has no sound and slide shows up nearly endless.... qt export is impossible.
what can i do?
at least it would help me if i can export ONE swf file.
best would be if it has same sync inside keynote and in swf - but i can live for now with swf export optimized sync that doesnt work inside keynote. but it should be fixed at least in the future....I'm currently having a similar problem, where the Flash exported by Keynote seems to randomly miss some objects on the page that appear after a click or a delay. In fact, in one case, I had embedded a EPS file in the slide, and some parts of the embedded file were exported to Flash but not others. I'm using Keynote 3.0.2, so I'm sorry to hear that Keynote '08 still has this bug which makes Flash export pretty awful to deal with.

Quicktime Export - Keynote, Streaming, and Movie Controller Settings
A few questions regarding qt export from keynote -
Is there a way to save quicktime export settings in keynote? Right now I'm exporting multiple files to custom sizes, and have to manually enter the size every time.
I'm exporting for streaming as well, and have to select it in the qt settings window every time.
also, is there a way to choose to show the movie controller when exporting a movie? Now I have to open the movie after export in qt pro and choose window>movie properties>presenation>movie controller type>movie controller (it defaults to none when exporting from keynote).
also, oddly enough, is seems that saving the movie after choosing to show the movie controller removes the streaming setting (movies wait to load completely before playing).
Thanks! No answer to the main question...but the final question--
When you edit a QuickTime movie, even if the edit is merely to change the settings on the controller, it breaks fast-start. You should be able to fix it by doing a "Save As..." instead of saving the movie in place. But that doesn't seem to work in all versions of QuickTime; I have noticed that certain versions of QT-7 seem to break fast-start altogether.
There is an app out there called "Lillipot" that will fix this for you. Drag your movie to Lillipot, it does whatever magical conversion is necessary to make fast-start work again.
