FCP 5.1 camera compatability

Before I upgrade to FCS, does anyone know if FCP 5.1 works with Sony TRV900 and Sony HC32 cameras? Neither is listed in qualified devices pdf. Thanks in advance.
Steve

I think it is most helpful to make new posts on divisions of an issue because the generic cluster masks the specific slice embodied here.
The issue here was "is this a GENERIC Z1U issue, does anyone's Z1U work with the 5 crossgrade", but all of that is moot. I saw SO MANY similar, separate threads that I wanted this one to test whether anyone was having success with Z1U/FCP 5 combo AT ALL. None of the other threads said that this specific idea was not a piece of the puzzle.
So I approached it as a Mystery instead of a Puzzle and dug deeper.
I fixed it. And maybe the fix will help others.
Re-upgrading, by reloading FCP upgrade/crossgrade forced Software Update to load in the latest tweak. But before doing that, I loaded the AppleQmasterNode from the Extras folder first.
When FCP was re-upgraded, it became FCP 5 without the most recent version suffix. Of course, I had to re-update the software over the net again.
The version that was failing had been updated and said it was FCP 5.1.2 and now it says that it's 5.1.2, too, again. No difference there, but now it works.
I think I saw the update coming into my machine as "5.1.3" but that may be just a mirage of memory. I wasn't taking notes. Anyhow, now it does what iMovie HD had been doing all along: see the camera and work with it.
Does the QMaster have anything to do with this? Who is conversant with that? If it does, then howcome it was never suggested by anyone in the many "can't connect my xyz-cam to FCP 5" threads?
Or by Apple.
To any who have similar "issues", try the re-re-upgrade. It might work, and none of the many other suggestions like trash your prefs, fix your permissions, and so on, worked at all. But they sure took up a lot of time and effort.

  • Apple's Camera Compatibility list

I am wondering if anyone knows what this list means. This is how Apple words this:
    Camera compatibility
Aperture supports digital cameras from a wide variety of manufacturers. It offers optimized support for the RAW formats of the numerous digital SLR cameras.
    See our updated list
Once you click on the link you get a list of "the numerous digital SLR cameras". As I noticed that my Fuji Finepix S2 Pro is on the list, I assumed that my camera is fully supported in what is advertised as a Professional program that organizes RAW images. Well... after paying $600CAN, Aperture acknowledges my RAW files as an unsupported format. I don't know why considering Photoshop can see them. When I went back to make sure my camera was on the list, I noticed that only about a dozen have a graphic behind them that says RAW. There is no explanation on the page on what this graphic means. Are they implying that raw is only supported on those select few cameras. If so I've been mislead
I based my purchase on the wording Apple used to describe this list
"It offers optimized support for the RAW formats of the numerous digital SLR cameras.
    See our updated list"
Am I wrong here or does this say that if your camera is on this list, you will get optimized support for RAW

Thanks for you reply sam. I never saw that 2nd list you mentioned. I would have assumed that the list I read on the order page was good enough but I guess I was wrong. I just assumed that a supported camera meant that you can use the most prominent feature of the product "RAW workflow"
I guess my next question is what does supported camera mean?
I think Apple better make this more clear or they are going to be taking in a lot of returns. I just checked the box out and it doesn't mention camera compatibility anywhere. Just that you get a RAW workflow. Last time I checked it wasn't compulsory to check out a website before buying a product. If someone comes in a store off the street and purchases based on the boxes info, people will have every right to return the product.
For me. I guess it was my fault for misinterpreting the list and I will eat the $600 I wasted, however, this has left me with a very sour taste in my mouth.

  • IPhoto 6 and Camera Compatibility

I recently upgraded my OS to 10.5.8 from 10.4... I know very late. I had no intention until the upgrade to my iPhone 3GS required it. Regardless, I am running IPhoto 6.0.6 and it has worked fine. I own a Canon T1i EOS Rebel digital camera. Up until the conversion to Leopard, I would plug the camera into the port and iPhoto would open up and transfer the pics without an issue. Today, I tried to upload pictures, the USB cord was secure on both sides and nothing happened. I turned the camera on and off twice to see if by starting it up connected would change things, nothing did. I ensured that the battery is charged in the camera and that the sleep setting was not tampered with thus not allowing it to transfer.
I am suspicious about the upgrade to Leopard causing this incompatibility issue with my camera. When I did a search on the apple website, the page about iPhoto 6 and camera compatibility is a dead link. So a couple of questions if someone would be kind enough to help me out with:
    1) Is the import of pictures not occuring because of an incompatibility issue between my camera and iPhoto 6 suddenly? Or is incompatibility between 10.5.8 and iPhoto 6?
    2) What is the best solution? Upgrade to iLife '11? Or will that require upgrading to Snow Leopard as well? Or is it better to buy the $129 bundle of Snow Leopard, iLife and iWork for compatibility issues?
    3) Lastly, is there a webpage on apple that shows these compatibility issues? For instance, if I upgrade one thing in the future, all the other software suites that need updating as well?
Thanks in advance to whomever can help me.
    Cheers,
    -Tod

    1) Is the import of pictures not occuring because of an incompatibility issue between my camera and iPhoto 6 suddenly? Or is incompatibility between 10.5.8 and iPhoto 6?
Neither. The usual cause for this issue can be a damaged plist file, a setting on the camera or Mac or minor directory damage on the card.
Plist file: Can you access the card with Image Capture (in your Applications Folder)? If so, you might try trash the iPhoto plist file, if not try trash the Image Capture plist file as well.
Settings: What's set to happen when you connect the camera? With iPhoto 6 that's in the Image Capture. Your camera has two modes for talking to the Mac: Mass Storage and PTP. What one are you set to? Try the other one.
Directory Damage: Have you tried using a USB Card Reader? Can the Mac see the card in that?

  • Video camera compatibility for CS5? what sequence setting do I use?

I am new to the extraordinarily complex world of hard drive/hybrid cameras. I have always used tape and firewires with few problems. A student came in today with new camera she just bought a Panasonic SDR –H85. We downloaded a video file, but it would not import into Premiere. I also had no idea which of the dozen new sequence set-ups to use. How do I find out camera compatibility for CS5? (Adobe doesn’t list specific models.) And what sequence setting do I use?

Thanks for your help! For some reason we had a hard time finding these specs. It looks like it is a SD camera, not a High Definition camera (the HD on the side of the camera mistakenly meant Hard Drive, not High Definition?)
At any rate we now need to use the Adobe media encoder to convert the file so that we can import it into Premiere ….all with a loss of quality due to the re-rendering. (btw, what is the best file to re-render?). I suggested that the student who just bought it return it for a camera (preferably High Def) that will work in Premiere. Any suggestions?

    yes
However, if your Mac has only Firewire 800 ports, you need an adapter such as one of the following to connect your FW400 external iSight:
    • This Firewire 400-800 cable can work:  http://store.apple.com/us/product/H7041ZM/A (I use this one.)
    • Some report that this low-priced alternative cable works:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812189097
    • To use your iSight's FW400 6pin-6pin cable, you can use a 6pin-9pin adapter like one of these:

  • FCP 7 and FCP 7.0.3 compatibility

Hi - will a project created on FCP 7.0.3 open in FCP 7?  Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately no.  Just update FCP 7 to 7.0.3.  You should anyway, more stable and more compatibility with camera models.  Simple SOFTWARE UPDATE will do that.

  • XD Cam compatibility?

Hi I need to do a couple of things to footage that was shot in xd cam ex 1080p24 (35mbs vbr), when I send the two clips that I need to work on from FCP, shakes viewer window tells me its 16 bit RGBA 1280 x 720. And on the format it is assuming the footage is hdtv 1080i/p 23.98.
Is there a compatibility issue with xd cam footage and is there a way to solve it.
Im going to try a couple of ideas but ts really urgent that I figure out how to fix this, so if anyone knows something please let me know.
    Thank you in advance

First of all thank you so much for a quick and helpful reply.
    a) I actually think I have figured it out, the footage was all sent to color and then back as apple pro res, somehow all the scenes except the one I need and 2 others were sent back as 1280 x 720 and not as 1920 x 1080
I really appreciate the help non the less.

  • Any Sony HX9V dig camera compatability problems with imac?

Hi Anyone aware of compatability problems between the new Sony HX9V dig camera and my Mac before I buy
    Cheers Vernon

    I don't see any problems.
    1. Images
When you connect the camera to your Mac you can copy the JPG images from one of the appearing  camera folders to your hard drive.
    2. Movies
There is a (little!) problem with best quality movies US format 1080/60p / EU format 1080/50p. These can't be imported directly. (I'm using FCP X.)
But you can use the free Media Converter (http://media-converter.sourceforge.net)* with the free Re-wrap AVCHD plugin (same website) to convert the available MTS files into QuickTime MOV files (1080/60p) which can be imported into FCP X. (Before I import my movies I trim them using QT X.)
(Note: I assume in iMovie you can only use them as 1080/30p (losing every other frame). I'm not 100% sure - I made a test some months ago.)
*) You can also use ClipWrap ($50) but I can't see a difference.

  • Why is Motion so much quicker than FCP doing Steady Cam?

Being a helicopter operator I keep doing projects that require steady cam.
I used to use Shake, then Motion, and now FCP with the additon of steadycam but I am wondering why Motion is so much quicker than FCP with the same clip.
Maybe a dumb question but one I need to ask.

running the same filter in both fcp and motion, motion always renders faster.
This is because motion renders and draws all frames directly on your graphics card. FCP now uses the GPU for many effects but has to read back from your card to main memory.
Unless Apple does a total rewrite of FCP this is unlikely to change, guess you either have to keep swapping apps or put up with longer renders in FCP.

  • Final Cut camera compatibility

I'm looking for a camera compatible with FCP 5.1.4 that isn't HDV. I'd like to record HD to a something other than tape for easier offloading. I'm even willing to settle for something less that pro-sumer for the time being. I used a client's Sony (didn't get the model) files that needed to be de-muxed. Once demuxed it worked fine for what we needed. Does any of this make any sense?
    Thanks in advance.

Some P2-based DVCPRO HD solutions were compatible with FCP 5.1.4, but there are a lot more options available for file-based cameras in FCP 6 & 7.

  • Digital camera compatibility with MAC OS9.x

Some of the new digicams claim to be compatible only with versions of OS 10.x. Does this imply that pics cannot be downloaded and read properly in OS9.x, if read from a camera card thru a [compatible] card reader? Assume it means the downloadable software that comes with the digicam is incompatible with OS9.x, but is that really important for downloading from a card reader, working with [Photoshop], printing etc? I know Canon's new digicams, for example, are not OS9.x compatible according to Canon, and I'm sure there are others.
I hesitate to go the new OS10.4 route as my logitech webcam is only compatible up to 9.2.1 and some versions of 10.2 and 10.3, I believe. Not sure about my Microtech i700 scanner compatibility either. I've still got 8-9GB space avail on my G4 cube, but know photos can sure eat that up fast.

    James,
USB card reader (or PCMCIA card adapter for laptop users). Best things I ever, EVER bought.
Trying to get the pictures off the card whilst in the camera, is slow and eats camera batteries - I can't get all the pictures off a 1Gb or 4Gb card over the USB connection, whilst the card is in the camera, without the batteries running out (so I use PCMCIA for big cards).
Stick with OS9.2.1 if you want. You can also go fishing for OS9 compatible software on all the camera manufacturers websites, Kodak still supply OS8 & OS9 stuff - of course, the licence agreement says you have to have a Kodak camera to use the stuff. But check all manufacturers.
When in OS9 I still use their (Kodak) software - 8 years old now - even with my newest cameras (strangely, same with the battery charger, the 8yo Kodak charger is 10x better than the Olympus, Minolta and Nikon efforts I've picked up in that time).
Let us know if you find anything good.

  • Hard-Drive video camera compatability

    Hi all,
On the Final Cut studio page there is a hardware compatibility utility...is there something similar for Final Cut Express? If not, can anyone tell me about hard-drive-based video cameras which can work with FCE?

The only hard drive based cameras that FCE works with without third party support are cameras that shoot AVCHD.
