FCP hangs when speeding up AVCHD video.

Just what the title says. I import a large MTS file and start a new project. Everything is fine until I try to speed the video up whether that be 2x, 4x, 8x, etc. If I remove the audio it all works again. So it seems the audio is really causing issues when trying to speed up the video. What I am trying to do is speed the video up and maintain the audio pitch and I do have that checked, but my late 2013 Retina MacBook Pro i7 quad 2.6GHz 16GB 512GB SSD laptop gets very upset. Also, I have noticed by using the Activity Monitor that the process that speeds video up only uses one thread to do so which is highly disappointing since this is a very intensive operation. Is this a bug and is anyone else experiencing this?

The Original Media folder definitely has the .mts file and the Transcoded Media has the .mov files.
Tracked it down and it was me not being patient. If I try to accelerate the video right after I import the video and not wait for the background tasks to complete (I am guessing the transcoding of the video after the import in this case) FCPX hangs pretty hard. Sometimes it recovers after a long wait, but never fully acts normal after that. If I wait for the background tasks to complete and the meter reaches 100% all is good. I can understand my MacBook Pro being upset when the Activity Monitor looks like this and I am trying to load more on top of it.
I would say this is taking full use of my late 2013 MacBook Pro's quad core i7 2.6GHz CPU. 8 threads screaming and on-board fans whistling. Poor little guy.

freezing/hanging when taking pictures and videos  in i phone 4 with flash on.

    Hi Mister.
Let's try to answer your questions.
    - The E5 does not have a red light when you take pictures.
    - I don't know about battery life comparing with E6 and E72, just can say on the E5 is quite good. It has a 1200 mAh battery, you should check the others, but also the features of each one, i.e. the E6 is a touchscreen one, so it consumes more power.
    - It has a notification white light, around the navigation button.
    Regards.

  • What's the most effective way to speed up AVCHD video editing?

    Hello Everyone,
I'm having the same problem, my wife and I have a small wedding videography company, I film jobs on weekends when I'm not working full time and my wife stays home with our 2 year old daughter and edits during the week.
When jobs come in we both are using our macbook pro's for the import process because it takes SOOO long to import all the avchd clips.  We're filming with the Panasonic HMC40 shooting in 720/30p on Class 10 16GB SDHC Cards.
I have an early 2008 macbook pro, 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo 2GB of ram, and my wife has a 2010 unibody with a dual core i5 w/ 4GB of ram.
As a test, I imported an 8 minute and 47 second clip in my machine, and the import takes 20:39.  I went to my local apple store and ran the same import test on brand new machines and here are the results:
mbp Core 2 duo 2GB ram time: 20:39 (my machine)
mbp dual core i5 4GB ram time: 7:08 (my wife's machine)
mbp quad core i7 4GB ram time: 4:50
    mba core 2 duo 1.86Ghz 2GB ram SSD 64GB drive time: 12:17
imac quad core 2.7Ghz 4GB ram time: 4:54
    imac quad core 2.8Ghz 3GB ram 4:27
    mac pro 2.8Ghz 3GB ram 3:42
I watched the quad core i7 macbook pro's performance monitor, and at one point it had 63 iMovie threads running to import the footage.  The biggest bottleneck for importing avchd seems to be the processor.  With an import time of about have of the real time, that has the biggest appeal to me, but comes at a starting price of $1799 + tax, and is expensive.
What I'm looking for is the most cost effective way to cut down on import and export times for either new hardware or software.  I haven't tested the elgato h.264 HD encoder yet, nor have I tested the new Final Cut X.  Has anyone done this? What about Adobe Premier Elments or Premier Pro
Our compeditors are offering 'same day edit' services, and making basically a trailer of the events that happen at the ceremony, then editing them on site in a 3-4 hour time window between the ceremony and reception, then using a projector and screen to show that trailer at the beginning of the reception, usually added to the slide show.
That's the kind of thing that we want to be able to do for our customers, but also to cut down the massive amount of editing time it takes to get every finished product out the door.
What does everyone think?  Is the elgato h.264 HD encoder worth it?  Is there a more professional avchd / h.264 hardware / software solution that can speed up the import process faster?
I'd love to know everyone's thoughts.
    Thanks.
    Chris

    One thing you might consider...
Go to Final Cut Pro X.
In FCP 10, you can import AVCHD and begin editing immediately. You can edit natively in AVCHD if your needs are very simple, but most people would use FCP to "optimize" the AVCHD to ProRes 422, which is an intermediate codec like Apple Intermediate Codec, but provides higher quality. The optimizing to ProRes 422 as well as analyzing for stabilization, sound, and color takes place in the background if you have cores available.
But you can edit immediately, and as the optimized clips become available, FCP will automatically use them instead of the AVCHD clips.

  • FCP Freezes When Exporting to Flash Video (FLV)

Final Cut Pro 7.0.2 freezes when exporting to Flash Video (FLV). The resulting FLV file contains only a few seconds of the exported video. A 2009 Apple Support notice offers this re. FCP 6 and CS3 Flash Video Encoder...

Final Cut Pro: May quit unexpectedly when exporting to Flash
    Last Modified: February 13, 2009
    Article: TS2593
    Symptoms
Final Cut Pro may quit unexpectedly when you export using QuickTime Conversion if you choose Flash Video (FLV) from the Format menu.
    Products Affected
Final Cut Pro 6.x, Adobe Creative Suite 3 Flash Video Encoder
    Resolution
This can happen if you use the Adobe Creative Suite 3 Flash Video Encoder and Final Cut Pro together. This issue does not occur with the Flash Video Encoder in Adobe Creative Suite 4. To work around the issue:
Choose File > Export > QuickTime Movie.
Be sure to enable Make Movie Self-Contained.
Open the exported movie in QuickTime Player.
Export the movie to Flash from QuickTime Player.
    ===
I just installed CS5, so I would think I shouldn't be bothered with an older, problematic Flash Video Encoder. I don't think I should have to convert an MOV file to an FLV file using QuickTime Reader or anything else. Why doesn't it export correctly out of FCPro 7.0.2?

    oh well.

  • MacBook (Early 2009) - Screen freezes (hang) when playing music or video

    Hi,
I have an strange problem with MacBook (Early 2009). Whenever I play music using ITunes or DVD with IDVD or even watch a video on youtube, my macbook will hang suddenly and a strange sound will come out.
To recover from this problem, i have to power off the system and power on the system again.
Initially, I thought it is related to iTunes but the same problem occurs even i use other alternatives (e.g. songbird) for playing of songs.
    Please kindly advice me.
    Thank you.
    Michael.

I have a similar problem since the last update 10,5,7.
Always when I connect my iPod80GB the computer hangs, the problem only exist when running Mac OS X. It won't happen while running windows.
The same problem when I connect an external hard drive the computer hangs aswell (Mac OS X) (not in windows).
My personal feeling is that there are serious bugs in the last program update.

  • FCP Hangs for no discernible reason

FCP 7.0.2 has been hanging a lot lately - crashing several times a day. I'm working on a ProRes HD timeline, and sometimes when I try to play the timeline, I get the beachball. Ultimately, I have to force quit, but although the FCP process is not in top or in the Activity Monitor, the OS seems to think it's still active. The icon is still in the dock with the white dot and if I alt-tab, it's there, too. If I quit the app, and let the computer sleep, FCP hangs when starting back up.
I have a Blackmagic Decklink SDI card that I thought might be the culprit, but I stopped sending the video signal through it - still the same problem. I tried trashing my prefs and the cache - no dice. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Probably no help but I recently had the beachball show up for the first time in manyyears. Turned out I was trying to use MP3 and WAV music files in my timeline. Exported them as AIFF and things smoothed right out. Disconcerting with the new hardware and OS, I figured I 'd be gaining, not losing functionality and speed.

  • Apparent bios bug when there is no video card

I have a system that shouldn't use a video card. I have tested several KT4V and they all hang when there is no video card, even though the bios is set to "Primary Display: Absent".
Any suggestions of a workaround will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks

not bad, in UK value thats probably about £15. here in UK if we really want a crappy 3D graphics card , we would go for something like this: http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=55029
thats the same value to us as 5 bottles of Budweiser, or 16 litres of petrol

  • Imovie on my ipad ...refuses to recognize AVCHD Video. Also when i remove video clips already used in a project, it is unable to recognize missing clips after I've put them back. How do I get around these 2 issues?

My iMovie refuses to recognize, import, or work with AVCHD Video. It also refuses the same video clips even after I have converted them to Mp4. Also, when I delete a video clip already used in a project, then later import the same clip back to my ipad, the software is unable to recognize and find the clip again! Help! How do I get around these issues?

    Hi Craig,
I also got the second problem. The storyboard on iMovie trailer has all these missing videos. If I import them on my iPad it doesn't find them.
If you find a solution it would be much appreciated to share it here ... I'll do the same.
    Thanks,
    Rafael

  • Macbook Pro 2008 hangs when running video on nvidia 9400M

My MBP (2.4GHz unibody) freezes whenever I run youtube videos for a few minutes. Resetting the PRAM and SMC didn't solve the problem. It seems to happen more often when running on batteries rather than plugged in.
This MBP model has two graphic cards integrated. By default it runs on the nvidia 9400m. I haven't had the problem since switching over to the 9600M (crossing fingers) although the laptop does run a lot hotter now and I really don't need the extra graphics boost given by the 9600M.
Has anyone else had this problem?
I don't know if it makes any difference but I purchased the computer from a reseller with extra RAM (4GB total). It has all the latest updates and minimum extra software (it's brand new).

Try downloading this video to see if it plays properly.
    http://www.apple.com/macbook/the-new-macbook/
If the video that you have downloaded plays properly, then I would think that the issue is related to your Internet service.
If the video that you have downloaded plays poorly, then I would contact Apple to try to have it exchanged or serviced.
    PS:
Does the video hang when you watch the live stream at the following URL? You may need Adobe Flash player to view this site.

  • Please help. When exporting a 720p video using Quicktime Conversion in FCP it saves some extra temporary files to my computer. The file is called ICMMultiPassStorage. This file gets so large that eventually the program and exporting process crashes.

Please help. When exporting a 720p video using Quicktime Conversion in FCP it saves some extra temporary files to my computer. The temporary file it saves is called ICMMultiPassStorage. This file gets so large that eventually the program and exporting process crashes. I have been able to locate the file using GrandPerspective and close out of FCP to delete it. But when I try exporting the movie again it creates the ICMMultiPassStorage file again. I have made sure my scratch disks are set to my external hard drive so I know that isn't the issue. How do I fix this problem so these temporary files are not being stored on my internal hard drive instead of my external? Thanks!

Try exporting the timeline "using current settings" via Make QuickTime Movie, then submit that clip to Compressor for the transcode. This should be faster and less painful.

  • PSE13: no sound when playing AVCHD videos

In the PSE 13 Organizer I'm not getting any sound when playing AVCHD files:
These files play just fine in PSE12
These files play just fine in Premiere Elements 13 and 12
The files are from various cameras (Sony RX100M3, Sony and Panasonic camcorders)
Other video formats work fine (e.g., .wmv, .mov files from an iPhone, .avi etc)
Any ideas? A quick search indicates this problem has occurred occasionally over the last several years across various versions of PSE.
    Thanks

    Hi Anewsha
    I use .mts.
To clarify : The problem occurs in the organizer part, where sound
disappears after palying 30 seconds. I run a fairly powerful computer, Core
    i7, 16 G Memory with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750

  • Bug: Lightroom 3.3 hang when importing video

On Windows, Lightroom 3.3 will hang when importing .AVI videos when the following is true:
    - Move or Copy (not Add)
    - Rename Files is selected
    - Filename pattern includes "exposure"
Changin to a pattern that only includes date and time will make the import succeed.

If it really failed in ntdll.dll it might be a system issue.  Make sure you disable all real-time anti-virus processes, and make sure your Windows system is up-to-date.
Otherwise, it will be hard to know what is going on. If it persists, open a support ticket with Adobe. Take a look in the event viewer to make sure you have all the details of the crash.
