FCP multiclip

Hi all,
I am facing problem in FCP multiclip . Before making multiclip when I am puting color correction filter in two clip and then do switching the FCP quit on its own. But when I am not applying the filter and make the multiclip then do switching it become fine.
Please help .
regards
rishi

When my multiclip angles have continuity breaks, I have had success in assembling the pieces into a sequence, matching the sequence to the tape TC, exporting a reference movie and re-importing it as a continuous angle for my multiclip. I apply the reel name to the reference movie as well. If the tape has continuous TC, with sotps and starts in the recording, recapture would not work with this method, but it does get the gaps out of the multiclip angle.

  • How to quickly combine 2GB QT files for use in FCP Multiclip?

We have 3 Focus FS-4 Pro 80GB HD units that work with 3 Sony DVCAM camcorders. We edit on FCP 5 and 6 on Quad G5s and one Intel G5 with Mac OS 10.4.11 and 10.5. We work in DV primarily.
Recently, we began to do a large number of multi-cam programs which need multiclip editing on FCP. Being FAT 32, the FS-4 breaks the QuickTime DV files into 2GB chunks. This poses an editing problem. At the present time, after importing all the 2GB files to the computer/FCP, we have to stitch them together in the FCP timeline, export the resulting timeline into a single QT movie and reimport that into FCP for multiclip editing. This takes OVER HALF THE TIME it would take to digitize the three tapes(using a one hour 3-cam show as an example).
Is there a solution? A speedy Mac utility that combines the 2GB Quicktime files into one large file? Or some other workflow that we have missed?
I may write to Focus to see if the drive could be reformatted into NTSF without losing a lot of functionality. Have not done this yet. Don’t expect a positive answer. Know they have an FS-5 with 90min clips, but can't replace the FS-4s yet.
Any help will be very appreciated as we are bogged down with this now.

If I might offer a little bit of a different perspective.
Having worked a number times with multi-clips and lots of footage (3 day long one on one interviews as an example) There really isn't any need to concatenate all of the footage from one camera into a single clip. I have never stayed on any clip for 5 minutes (~2GB of DVCPro HD 720/30p).
The process of the edit just doesn't demand that you work with all the footage at once. Work with the segments you have and then move on to the next. I would assume at some point your going to pull shots from some other time in the shoot to fix a reaction or a camera error as well as any number of other things editing requires, don't get caught up in the tech and end up making more work and files.

  • Sequence markers in FCP multiclip project cause error on send to STP

I have had problems with the procedure "send to soundtrack pro multitrack project" as it concerns a Apple ProRes(HQ) multiclip sequence. The send consistently resulted in an "Error sending selection to Soundtrack Pro" and a "General Error".
From what I can tell, the cause of the problem is the use of "sequence markers" versus "clip markers". This problem can be replicated consistently. The removal of "sequence markers" eliminates the error. There is no problem with the use of clip markers as far as I can see.
I believe this is a bug and perhaps it needs to be looked at since it certainly can stop the successful integration of FCP-7 and STP-3. The manual describes:
Important: Chapter, compression, and scoring markers are used only for sequences. When
you export a QuickTime movie, make sure that these markers have been added to the
sequence itself in the Canvas or in the Timeline ruler, and not to individual clips.
I have submitted a feedback to Apple, but perhaps some other users have some insight to this problem.

The default project for STP is setup correctly to use the Motu. In fact, if I create a default project the Motu works well and I get multiple tracks going to the appropriate 5.1 outputs.
I was able to get the audio to work ONCE and ONLY once by selecting "Undo Base Channel change" (not even sure how this was an option, nothing I selected) and then I had to select the headphone icon on each track to be able to hear it.
So, thinking I had solved this mystery I immediately saved the project. I opened the project up again directly in STP and you guessed it, I don't get any audio again!!! Argh!!!! This time checking/unchecking the headphones icon did nothing.
I'm about ready to toss in the towel on FCP and STP and will start looking for alternatives that have a well integrated package that works with my Motu Ultralite. Any suggestions are welcome for alternatives to FCP and STP.
Motu claim the Ultralite is fully compliant with OSX core audio and don't have any recommendations for FCP send to Multitrack STP issue.
In my efforts I thought I might be able to use Logic Pro but importing video doesn't import the associated audio so I have to export the audio separately -- becomes very worky.
I also tried to Export my sequence to a quicktime movie and then add the movie to STP under a new STP project -- this exhibited the same problem -- no audio.
I just don't know what to try next.
    Rob.

  • Does anyone know about FCP Multiclipping problems???

I posted this about two weeks ago, to find a few views but no responses. I know that there is a FCP guru out there who HAS to know something about this problem:
The new FCP 6.0.1 doesn't let you collapse multiclips properly when preparing the project for the onlining process. Is there an update coming to fix this? Is there a new way to collapse the multiclips? Is the only way to do it by match framing the clip and manually putting it in the space??? This is super time consuming during crunch times, where as before it was just a right click away!
Please Help ASAP, for this is a pressing matter affecting all of my co-workers and I.

  • FCP Multiclip fix

Hello all, I would like to know if there is a way to fix the sync of a multiclip for all the instances the clip appears in the sequence. Let me fully explain:
My editor has used my multi clips to string together a show. The particular shots were multiclipped together via timecode from two jam-synched cameras. Not noticing the matching action in the multi clip until after the sequence is strung out with the bad multiclip, it seemed fine. But now there is a definite skip in audio and video on this section (about 16 minutes). Is there a way to easily fix all the affiliated clips in the timeline by something as simple as control-shifting and making the master clip sync? (BTW that did not work!)
I don't what to have someone spend a few hours to fix this, and i am sure someone out there knows how to quickly do this. I am in FCP 6.0.2.
Thanks for your time, and help!

When my multiclip angles have continuity breaks, I have had success in assembling the pieces into a sequence, matching the sequence to the tape TC, exporting a reference movie and re-importing it as a continuous angle for my multiclip. • One camera of three not syncing into color from FCP

Running lastest version of everything on imac 2 ghz intel core 2 duo 2 gb memory. Useing multi-sync to edit three camera shoot shot on vx 200 with p2 cards. Edit is great. One camera goes out of sync by a lot when importing to color.
tried export each clip from this camera and reimporting qt back into sequence. This worked expect, the clip got squished going into color.. didn't stay at HD settings, probably a pixel issue. Tried reexport using pro-res 422 HD 960x720 24p which was our camera setting.
This works but sometimes but not all the time. I get a render error "can't find capture card".
The camera that goes out of sync is in two parts, thus the multi-clips had to be
resynced... this shouldn't be an issue with xml as it's reading the time code unless the timecode is the same on both clips...hmmm...

    From the Release Notes:
"Known Issues Affect Sequences Containing Multiclips That Are Sent to Color
Sequences that contain multiclips have known issues that affect Final Cut Pro to Color round trips."
Color does not like multiclips. Too bad the forum search function is disabled as solutions have been offered up, I just can't remember them currently as I rarely touch the FCP multiclip function.

  • 2 Multi cam shoot- one shot in hdv other in ntsc dv

I used two cams to shoot event. One cam was a DV. Other was an HDV. How can i make my picture size the same. preferable to HDV.

If you want to use FCPs multiclip feature, both videos will have to be in the same format.
You can downconvert the HDV to DV on import, or upconvert the DV after import. Which way you want to go depends on your delivery format. If you're delivering on web or dvd, I'd go the downconvert route. Your DV footage will suffer greatly by upconverting to HDV, which is needless if you're delivering in SD.

  • Three Cameras, several clips, how to bring them all together

Good day everyone. I shot my first wedding ceremony using one Canon 5d and two 7d cameras. So I have several clips from each camera during the one ceremony. I have done in the past a FCP Multiclip between three cameras, one clip each which was straight forward. Now with multiple clips from each camera for one ceremony, I am unsure how to combine them all and make one continous clip to then create one multiclip? What I was thinking of doing was just getting the one clip from each camera that is the same scene from each and then creating a multiclip from that, but the results of this would then be several multiclips. Is there an easier way to this? Maybe creating one large clip of the several clips per camera and then create a multiclip? Any info on what others are doing would greatly be appreciated. Thanks again

    Here is what I did:
    1. I created a new sequence and dropped all my clips into three different tracks. Each track representing one camera
    2. Wherever I saw a break on a clip, I made sure to blade the other two tracks to match that break.
    3. I selected all clips including audio and dropped them into a new BIN.
    4. As all where still selected in the bin, I control click and selected Multiclip and NOT multiclip Sequence using In points
    5. I then played the multiclip that was created and it is out of sequence. So some clips begin to play at a later time then when it actually happened.
I believe this is happening since the multiclip is being created by file name and each camera has a different file name, so it is going by that order. Do I need to label each clip using the Angel tab to make this work, or is there another way? Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks

  • Multiclip on FCP 7 with timecode: multiple files for the same camera have different Angle

    I have FCStudio 7 with OS 10.6.8
I just filmed a concert with 6 cameras (Sony XDCAM).  They are all timecode sync'd.
For various reasons there are multiple vid files for each camera (i.e. 172_003 thru 172_006 for camera 1).
I imported into FCP 7 using SonyXDCAM plug in with no problems.  Each camera file group was given its camera number as the Reel Name (i.e. Camera 1) and that camera's number as its Angle Name (i.e. 1).
Now when I try and create a multiclip using all six cameras, instead of keeping all the files for a specific camera under a single angle name it treats each file as its own camera angle.  It treats each file as an individual camera instead of having the files flow as a single clip from a single camera based on their timecode.  In viewer I have 8 different angles for a single camera (because of 8 files).  In the make media window for multiclip, the Angle Name is different for each clip but its position is still aligned to its timecode.
I worked the same project last year and the multiple files for each camera lined up fine, based on its timecode value and camera/reel name.  I can't see what has changed.
I need each camera's files to sync under that camera Angle Name, and for the files to play in the same angle spot in viewer.
All advice welcomed as I'm in a major time crunch to complete the job.
    Thanks.

Well why not just prebuild each angle in its own sequence with sequence timecode matching the source timecode?  Export with current settings and import these files back into fcp and then create your multiclip.

  • A BUG in FCP 7: Multiclip Markers slip when copied from project to project

Alas, not all things are great with multiclip markers in FCP 7.
We are shooting multicam on a show with dual system sound. Individual camera angles are synced to the production sound (broadcast .wav) and merged to create new master clips that use the stereo production audio instead of the original camera audio, then the new synced/merged clips are made into multiclips using In points set on the slate claps as the multiclip synchronization method. Markers added to the A angle and B angle do indeed stay attached when added in the viewer (thanks for that bug fix, Apple). The assistants are marking the beginning of each take and all resets on each angle, so that both Angle 1 (A camera) and Angle 2 (B camera) have the exact same markers on the exact same frames.
Problem is, when the editor opens the dailies project and copies the bins with the marked multiclips into his editor project, or his or her version of the dailies project is updated, the markers on Angle 2 (B camera) all shift in time (like they were all slipped). All Angle 2 markers in each individual clip slip the same amount, but every multiclip's markers slip a different amount. Copying clips from one bin to another IN THE SAME PROJECT yields the same slippage, and what's more, even messes up the markers in the original master multiclips (as if the copies were not affiliates but literally the same master clip as the multiclips). To make matters even worse, sometimes it's the A camera (Angle 1) that has markers slipping.
This bug does not affect multiclips that are made from the clips using original camera audio. Since the production has, thus far, been unable to properly jam sync the audio and camera timecode, each merged audio multiclip can have, potentially, three different timecode numbers associated with each track, Angle 1, Angle 2 and the stereo audio. Clearly FCP has no idea what to do when it attempts to recreate the clips in another bin or project, but the offset (i.e. how much the markers slip) is not directly correlated to any timecode offset between the different tracks of the multiclip. How weird is that?
It's forcing the editors to mark their own footage, which is really the assistant's job. At least in FCP 6 you could mark the original angles prior to multiclipping and the markers would stay as you switched angles, or you could mark the original angles and then replace the angle in the multiclip with the marked angle and, again, the markers would stay affixed to the angle when you switched from angle to angle. Now that doesn't even work.
    Help!
    Any workaround out there?

Actually the 4:2:2 smoother is for prepping footage in a 4:2:2 color space for chroma keying (it prevents stairstepping due to the blocky chroma values). It is the right setting for DVCPRO HD.
Sure about that? because it already is in a 4:2:2 color space, and there are no stair steps. Only DV has those ugly stair steps. I believe this is for DV. I have never used it, and I have comped a lot of DVCPRO HD.
am using the Chroma Keyer filter from FCP (possibly derived from Primatte?
Nope...Primatte is a NEW filter in FCP 7. The built in Chroma Keyer in FCP downright *****. I use DV Matte Pro for simple stuff in FCP, and Primatte or Keylight for the more complex ones, and in AE or Motion. But Primatte is now in FCP 7...well, a "lite" version called Primatte RT.
If chroma smoothing is causing that issue...don't use it.

  • Help with multiclip editing in FCP

Can someone please help me with multiclip editing. I have followed all the steps in the tutorials I have watched but I am unalble to switch between the two angles in the time line. Also the red line in the time line is telling me to render everything first . Is that normal or is it because I am using the 5.0 version of FCP?

To switch between angles, the timeline should not be rendered. Once you render it, it may play more smoothly, but you can't switch.
Also, sometimes you may have trouble switching many HD files, so it might work better to use Media Manager to make lower resolution proxies for your editing, then bringing the full-res files back for your final output. If the computer can't handle the load, it may refuse to do multiclip editing.
Finally, you may need to switch Playhead Sync back to "Open" from time to time. For some reason, the Viewer sometimes switches to "Sync Off".
By the way, your question actually belongs on the Final Cut Studio forum:

  • Can't get Multiclip (.Mov) work in FCP 6

If you know how to edit multiclip and understand FCP settings very well, please read my post, I need your help. Thank you.

  • FCP X multiclip dropped frames?

After playing a multiclip for a few seconds, it begins to drop frames, then freezes. And up comes this image.
What's up? It's on my new 8gig iMac

    This is an update;
After finding that the proxy clips you mentioned ran fine, discovered that I couldn't edit the Multicam footage as described in the manual. No Blade. No cuts. Just angle switches. So today started hunting thru FCP X Support and discovered something.
Once you get a Multicam Clip going on the timeline, you've got to create a New Project in the Browser, then open it and drag the Multicam Clip from the Browser to the empty Storyline. Ta Da!!. Everything shows up correctly. And works even better than it used to in older versions of FCP.
         But here's the point;
Nowhere in any of the FCP X Help files does that necessary process get mentioned. And that kind of sloppy oversight is not like Apple. Please fix it.
As a matter of fact, it would be a great idea to make those extra steps not even necessary. That's what Steve would want done
         Also
Remember that problem about dropped frames? Well, it's gone away. Even Optimized/Original 17 minute Multicam clips are running fine now.
    Go figure.

  • Can't import multiclip from FCP

I am trying to import a multiclip project from FCP and the file appears to process except it fails at the end and the error message says error processing.
am I missing something other then my file? or is there a work around?
    thanks

Perhaps we're just arguing about semantics, but the fact is that it will play successfully in the flash viewer and I have been delivering h264 files to webdesigners for the last 6 months which are simply renamed with the flv extension. And if this is what the OP needs to do, it will work for him. Do some searching here and you'll see this is common practice. If you look at what formats the last few iterations of the flash player will accept, you'll see h264 is fine.

  • Troubles multiclip editing in FCP 7

I am running FCP 7 on a quad mac pro...with stripped raid internal hard drives ...when I go to "multiclip" ntsc 720 x 480 footage 3 streams...I get a "drop frame warning" and when I uncheck the box do not warn again...it allows multiclip editing to work but with NO AUDIO PLAYBACK.
I have been doing this type of multiclip editing for years in FCP 6 on my older power Mac with no problems. So I tried the same footage on my power mac fcp 6 and it works.
How do I get FCP 7 to stop shutting of the audio during multiclip editing?

Make sure that you are playing the sequence, not the viewer. If your audio is not linked to the video clips anymore and you play the viewer, you will not hear the audio.
