Feedback on RTMFP quality

Hi people,
I just finished testing FMS4 and Cirrus public servers with simple multicast broadcast-receive application.
It works, but quality (frankly) sucks big time in both FMS4 and CIrrus. I played with all i(un)maginable options with setQuality/setMode with my HD web cam and can't get rid of pixelation. Actually it is already eveident on local a Video component, even without trip over network to a peer. Anyone has a better experience? What's general perception about usability of the technology beyond simple chat applications you have?
Thanks,
Sdsdf.

It is not obvious from your input if the "pixelation" is due to compression artifacts or just enlarged/aliased pixels.
1. if you also experienced with Camera.setLoopback and the result is acceptable without loopback (false) but poor with loopback (true) then your "pixelation" is due to compression; skip to #4
2. with loopback set to false, if you're getting "big" upscaled pixels flash may have selected a small resolution on your camera; try to match a bigger one exactly (start with the highest) via camera.setMode
3. if in turn you observe tiny "rough" pixels then your video is not being smoothed (antialiased) when scaled; set video.smoothing to true or make the video on stage the same size as the video resolution defined with setMode
4. the encoder inside FP (Sorenson Spark) is about 10 years old; besides being deprecated as a technology it is also designed to have a low impact on the CPU; in today's world it can only output decent results for low resolution (max. 480p) webcam video; things you may try:
*keep experimenting with resolution, fps and bitrate(bandwidth), best setting should be a compromise of these not maxing them all out
*set sorenson video deblocking on the viewer end (video.deblocking = 2)
*depending on content, especially if mostly static or with static background, you may try a contrast and/or sharpness filter (see ConvolutionFilter) on the viewer end
*use FMLE for encoding, it has better codec(s)
*wait for WebM encoding into flash player
Good luck!

  • [Feedback] tarsnap-gui PKGBUILD

    Hello forum,
    I've created a PKGBUILD for the newly released beta of tarsnap-gui, and I was thinking of uploading it to AUR.
    Since this would be my first public PKGBUILD, I'd like to have some feedback on the quality of the script before going with this.
    Here it is:
    _gitname=tarsnap-gui
    pkgname=tarsnap-gui-git
    pkgver=v0.5.r2.g1b3b346
    pkgrel=1
    pkgdesc="Cross platform GUI for the Tarsnap command line client"
    arch=('i686' 'x86_64')
    url="https://github.com/Tarsnap/tarsnap-gui"
    license=('BSD')
    depends=('qt5-base')
    makedepends=('git')
    provides=('tarsnap-gui')
    source=("${_gitname}::git+https://github.com/Tarsnap/tarsnap-gui.git")
    md5sums=('SKIP')
    pkgver() {
    cd $_gitname
    git describe --long | sed 's/\([^-]*-g\)/r\1/;s/-/./g'
    build() {
    cd $_gitname
    qmake
    make
    package() {
    cd $_gitname
    install -Dm755 ./tarsnap-gui "${pkgdir}/usr/bin/tarsnap-gui"
    Thanks for your time.
    EDIT:
    I've noticed after posting that there's already a package on AUR. I'd guess this is not useful anymore then!

  • Customer feedback

    In order to provide constructive feedback on the quality of service provided by members of adobe tech support or customer service, how would you recommend a customer proceed?
    In short, does Adobe have an active "suggestion box" where people can report details of their experiences?

    I'm amazed that after posting a couple of questions about this simple issue not a single person can answer.  And nobody from Adobe has stepped in to facilitate. The impression that leaves is that they don't care about what customers think of the experience. And the longer there is no answer, the more that impression is confirmed as a reality.

  • HT4623 speaker echo poor quality of calls

    Hi all - I have had lots of negative feedback on the quality of my iphone 4s calls with lots of echo on the other end - I have made sure there is nothing blocking the speaker and updated software as per website support with no difference any help would be welcome.
    Many thanks in advance Johnny

    Hi Johnny,
    When troubleshooting noise or echoing while using the iPhone 4S, the following article provides the most relevant information:
    iPhone 4S: Noise while on call or using cellular data
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4225
    If this happens only when using the receiver, do the following:
    - If you have a protective case on the phone, either ensure that the top microphone next to the headset jack is not covered or remove the protective case completely.
    - If you have installed a protective film on the display, either ensure that the receiver is not covered or remove the film completely.
    - Check the receiver mesh; if it appears blocked, use a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush to carefully and gently brush away any debris.
    - If the audio issue happens only in one location, try another location.
    - Try restarting the iPhone.
    - If restarting the iPhone didn't resolve the issue, update to the latest version of iOS.
    - If the issue persists, visit the iPhone Support Page for more troubleshooting and service information.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

    Just installed archlinux-2011.06.10-netinstall-i686.iso on Asus Eee PC 901 - SUCCESS!
    On Archiso boot I saw this:
    :: Starting Syslog-NG [DONE]
    Warning: This functionality is deprecated
    Please refer to /etc/rc.conf on how to define a single wired
    connection, or use a utility such as netcfg.
    :: Starting Network [DONE]
    On installed system this warning also appears, but with an error:
    :: Starting Network [DONE]
    /etc/rc.d/network: line 68: /sbin/ifconfig: No such file or directory
    I have wired eth0 with DHCP. I fixed both warning and error by defining "a single wired connection" as described in rc.conf and removing old network setup directives. Looks like installation script doesn't read news about Deprecation of net-tools: ifconfig is a part of net-tools which was deprecated and not installed by default. Do I need report bug?

  • Stopping or Removing Status Bar Icon (Android)

    I use my phone for many things and BT SmartTalk is a small part/aspect.  And with limited screen space, I definately can't justofy another icon in the status bar and the SmartTalk App running the entire time.  I need to run t when I want then exit.
    Using Settings > Apps > Force Exit after every occasional SmartTalk call is just stupid.
    So, do BT think they are the only think on a smartphne or how to I get the app to exit and get rid of the icon
    (I have already switched the default calling back to the phone as SmartTalk is just an occasional thing).
    Interestingly, when I was doing a Google search for the answer, there were quite a few user reviews where loads of people had been saying about this daft icon - so I am far from alone in my wish to get rid of it and get the app to exit and stop using system resources).
    Many thanks

  • Error Checking in iTunes - do I set it to ON of OFF and WHY?

    So I have a disk that looks good but iTunes fails to RIP a couple of tracks in their entirety (i.e. - it only copies a portion of the track ) and this is when the _Error Checking_ option is "checked".
    If I de-select the Error Checking option and retry the import, the track is imported completely
    So my questions are:
    1. if Error Checking is selected and the RIP is unsuccessful is this reported anywhere?
    - it would be nice after ripping 18 tracks to be informed that 1 or 2 were not completed
    - I could not find any errors reported - it simply skipped to the next track
    - I only found it on listening to the track, which terminated abruptly
    - I re-ripped the faulty tracks and noticed the Rip terminated prematurely from the status bar
    2. if Error Checking is de-selected
    - I assume the Ripping process simply copies what data it is able to read?
    - if that is the case - I assume burning a CD will propagate the problem?
    Is anyone able to provide some clear and concise information on the Ripping process WRT Error Checking - no conjecture or assumptions please, the web is full of that.
    Many Thanks in advance

    Thanks Limnos for confirming the propagation issue - I didn't know if apple did stuff behind the scenes.
    If anyone else knows if iTunes has errors flagged or reports located somewhere I would love to know where.
    For know I'll accept that turning on error checking will cause the Rip to fail and not use it.
    One other thing I noticed was with Error Checking turned on the quality of some tracks were pretty poor, but once turned off the quality got better - this appears contrary to some other posts I have read.
    Any feedback on the quality issue would be appreciated

  • Flash Catalyst "Panini" Preview available at Adobe Labs

    I'm not sure how many of you have had time to keep up with what is going on at Adobe Max this year, but some of the keynote videos have demonstrated Flash Catalyst "Panini".  There is a preview download of the future version of Flash Catalyst available at the Adobe Labs site here:
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashcatalyst_panini/
    It's beta software, so all the usual caveats apply (you can learn more from the link above).  Apart from the advances made in Flash Catalyst "Panini", the most immediate pieces are that this preview version can co-exist with a Flash Catalyst CS5 install (so no need to uninstall Fc CS5 to try it) and that this particular preview build doesn't open Fc CS5 projects.
    Hopefully you find it to be an improvement and we welcome your feedback.

    Quality Engineer on Flash Catalyst

    I found a bit of information about serial numbers on the Panini download page:
    These downloads provide 30-day trial versions of Flash Catalyst "Panini"  for Mac OS and Windows. You can extend the preview release by entering a  valid Flash Catalyst CS5 serial number. If you own a copy of the  Creative Suite 5 editions of Design Premium, Web Premium, Production  Premium or Master Collection, you can also extend the use of Flash  Catalyst "Panini" by requesting an extension serial number.
    Though it looks like the extension serial number system isn't active until later this month.

  • Alternate Power Source for Inspire 5.1 5200?

    I have started Rv'ing full time. Still have my 5.1 speakers, which I love, and a new laptop, which I semi-love. I do not love the stereo system built into the RV at all. I did not keep the stereo components from the house or the desktop as being too bulky. Now, I want to put my home theatre together again. I want to verify what I thinking before buying any new stuff.
    1) The laptop has only a single output jack. I'm thinking an external sound card will take care of that, right? I already have a separate USB digital decoder with an optical plug on the component end. I guess I could put all that together with the television, but I'm just as happy watching movies on the laptop anyway.
    2) The speaker system has a power supply listed as being a 2v - to 20 v inverter. When not plugged into city power, I use an inverter to convert 2v to 10 to power the laptop and appliances. But in the case of these speakers, I'd be...using an inverter to convert 2v to 10 in order to power a speaker system that was 2v in the first place? That doesn't make any sense to me. I have an engine battery and 2 deep cell 2 volt marine batteries with an isolator to power everything when I'm off the grid. Isn't it possible to just power my speaker system directly from my battery system like any other automotive speakers? And if so, isn't there a straight connector I could use for that?
    Sorry for length and depth. I am (obviously) confused at this point.

    Hi galletgun,
    Thanks for your prompt reply, I agreed with your advice,unfortunately the subwoofer can not buy separately,it comes with the set of satellite speakers (5.1)which is considerably becoming expensive in my case.
    In the instance somebody out here get a chance to open up the same type of subwoofer pcb board then it will be a big help for me if they have a time to check out for the color codings of the resistors R01,R04 and R05. I may get the system back in sound by replacing those resistors.
    I hope the "Creative Customer Assistance" themselves have a time to review and consider this forum as a "feedback" for the quality of their products and services. It is very disappointing for a customer to scrap a unit caused by a single or few burned passive electronic components which is in fact can be repaired. I do not think there is a confidential issue in revealing components specification to the customers.
    I will appreciate a reply from the moderator of this forum.

  • Disable Call Quality Feedback

    Morning all, Does anyone know how to disable the call quality feedback that keeps popping up after making a call. I use skype for business purposes and have the call quality feedback box popping up all the time. Very frustrating. Can anyone assist please??? Thank you in advamce!

    Dear Skype support,
             I have a huge problem with your Skype call quality feedback. I use Skype to talk with my friends and play together full screen games online like CallofDuty7 BlackOps. We have a big community and we have our own discussion which we never leave, we use it to talk while we play the game together (instead of the game team speak). We do this all the time but with your new add "call quality feedback" popup window it throws me and my team mates out in Windows to ask us about the quality of the conversation. This happens everytime someone from the group decides to end call, while the caller and everyone else are still talking on the discussion. This interrupt out game and sometimes the game even crash and Skype ruin the experience with this unwanted and offensive popup. Please fix this problem at your next version of Skype or me and everybody else I know that is a Skype lover but have a problem with your harrasing way to ask people about every conversation - we will leave Skype and go on something else. I have friends, family and co-workers that use this to contact me and they all would change Skype with something else just because I cant stop this harrasment !
    Best regards,
    Yours truly user.

  • Feedback on current MBP quality and any news on "updates"???

    I know there are lots of threads that discuss issues people have had with their MBP. I've read about display problems, buzzing noises, and the like. For anyone kind enough to reply to this, my question is whether replacement MBPs in the past month or so seem to have remedied previous issues you had? Are you just getting different MBPs that have the same problems? I'm also wondering if anyone has heard news of when the MBPs will get an update, despite being relatively new overall?
    I'm asking because I will be upgrading my current iMac G5 to an intel iMac and buying a MBP, both before July. Just wondering if waiting another month or two might yield something with regards to quality... I know there is no way to know this, but input from folks on the above could be helpful. Thanks again for any feedback.

    My only problem with my new MBP is the power adapter. It appears to be the pins. They're pushed in and it's basically useless. Apple is sending me a new one and hopefully it'll work this time. To be honest, I questioned this whole new magnetic adapter. It sounds great but ... Other than that, it works wonderfully and that includes using Windows XP on my partitioned drive. I also purchased the 20" iMac Intel Core Duo (Windows installed) and so far, it's perfect. One thing ... I am very impressed with Photoshop 7's performance on both. It's faster than on my G5 and it's not even Universal!

  • Video Quality for RTMFP on Linux

    I'm developing a video chat-like application using RMTFP and Stratus.  So far, I'm having good success.  I can build from source, tweak settings, and get video and audio in both directions.
    There's one glaring problem I haven't been able to solve, however -- when using a client on a Linux machine, the video received by the other end looks very poor.  It's blocky and pixellated, almost as if it's rendering 160x120 in a much larger frame.   When sending from a Mac (my other dev machine), the video looks quite good.
    I've tried modifying all the settings I can think of -- frame rate, "quality", size, audio settings -- with no discernible improvement.  I've tried running it as a local file and from a remote server.  The network where I'm working is extremely fast, so that shouldn't be an issue.
    Is there anything else I can try?  Any suggestions or ideas are greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks!

    New problem.
    I changed my DV Output to DV Locked.  Plugged my camcorder back into the firewire.  Created a new project with a connection device 'DV Camcorder'.  The popup window comes up, and tells me my capturing Source is 'Microsoft DV Camera and VCR'.  I tried selecting HDV as my connection device earlier and it said I didn't have one connected.
    Now, with my previous project, all I had to do was click 'Capture' and the it simply worked.  Now, I'm not getting anything to work.  It just sits there.  Do I have something configured incorrectly?
    My project settings are:
    Editing Mode: DV NTSC
    Timebase: 29.97 fps

  • HP Officejet Pro L7590 - print quality issue

    We've had a lot of problems with this unit since day one.  It simply wouldn't work with our XP computers.  Thankfully it does work with our new Windows 7 computer.
    The problem I'm having is that I have to clean the printheads at least once, if not twice, before every print job if it hasn't printed anything recently (even an hour or two).
    Although we've had the printer for a while, it has hardly been used because it wouldn't work with our previous computers (and I gave up trading emails with HP support because the situation just got worse each time we tried something, not better).  The myPrintMileage function says we've printed just over 300 pages (and I can pretty much guarantee that at least 250 of those have been diagnostic pages trying to get it working, not actual print jobs).
    The only advice I can find on the troubleshooting page is to replace the printhead/s.  Is that really the case?  We have already had to replace ink cartridges before we ever got the printer working.  If we now have to replace one or both printheads this machine is proving very costly to run.  I would be very disappointed to find we had had to replace all four ink cartridges and both printheads before we ever got the machine working properly.
    I'd appreciate any feedback you can offer on this please.

  • Comparing video quality of AVCHD BluRay discs using Final Cut Pro Share vs Compressor

    Up front, I will admit to being a newbie when it comes to using Final Cut Studio 3 and would appreciate some feedback from the Apple forum experts.
    I have spent a lot of time trying to determine how to achieve an optimum group of Compressor 3.5.2 settings so that the playback video quality of an AVCHD BluRay disc is equal to or better than one created by using the simpler auto settings of FCPro Share, version 7.0.2.
    When using Compressor’s auto/default maximum settings, I experienced the same error message reported in:
    Error MessageDuring Creation of Blu-ray Disc in FCP and Compressor 3.5
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/12073794#12073794
    I have since made some Compressor AVCHD Discs with smaller bit rate settings and compared video quality with a single FCP Share AVCHD disc.  Both seem to be equal in providing a very good video when viewed on my new Panasonic DMP BDT 310 BluRay player. However, the Compressor AVCHD discs show some motion artifacts not present with the FCPro Share version, especially when scrolling text or when objects are moving through the field of view, and visible artifacts are seen from a stationary chain link fence and other lattice work in the background of the video sample.
    My sample video used for the comparisons between Compressor and FCP Share discs is a 21 minute duration home movie, originally captured from a mini DV, Canon HV30 1080i camcorder using ProRes HQ encoding(1440x1080), and dragged into FC Pro 7.0.2 timeline where 10 chapter markers have been inserted.
    To create an AVCHD disc using FCPro Share, Markers are used to set the IN and OUT points, Select IN to OUT from the timeline, pull down File Menu Share, Select Create BluRay from options in pop out Share pane, and designate output device along with picture files for Background, Logo, and Title options. When these are completed, click on Export.  My 21-minute video required almost two hours for encoding including about 10 minutes for burning. This accomplished on an iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.
    To prepare this same 21-minute video for use with Compressor, I again Select IN to Out from the FCPro timeline, but this time use File Export as a QuickTime Self Contained movie including Chapter markers. Then Open Compressor, choose Create BluRay from Template pane, right click on the down arrow in the Batch window and load the QT self contained movie file. From there I went to the Inspector window and tried various combinations of bit rate settings along with Frame Encoder options such as Better or Best motion parameter controls.
    I have tried the following combinations of Bit rate settings along with varying Frame Encoder controls and burned an AVCHD disc for each example:
    Example A
    Compressor set to 6 Mbps Average and 8Mbps Maximum, Frame Encoder settings OFF. Approximately 4 hours to encode although the time remaining estimator indicated a larger value of ~7 hours; not an accurate estimator at all.
    Example B
    Compressor set to 6 Mbps Average and 8Mbps Maximum, Frame Encoder settings ON, using “Better (Linear Filter) and Better (Motionadaptive)” settings. Approximately 4 hours to encode, not the 13 hours that were estimated.
    Conclusion: Comparing A & B Compressor versions, Disc B showed some improvements in reducing motion artifacts over Disc A.
    Example C
    Compressor set to 13 Mbps Average and 15 Mbps Maximum, Frame Encoder settings ON, using “Better (Linear Filter) and Better (Motion adaptive)” settings. Multipass checked. DeInterlace was checked. Unknown hours to encode; about 8 hours done overnight..
    Conclusion: Disc C showed some minor improvements reducing motion artifacts over Disc B
    Example D
    Compressor Auto settings,i.e., 15 Mbps Average and 17 Mbps Maximum, Frame Encoder settings ON, using “Better (Linear Filter) and Better (Motion adaptive)” settings. Multipass checked. Approximately 12 hours to encode, done overnight. Inserted disc next morning after the overnight encoding was completed, and a few minutes later an error message pane appeared that the maximum bit rate had been exceeded.  This message was consistent with the Apple posted thread referenced above. Unfortunately the long overnight encoding was wasted.
    It seemed to me that the best Compressor settings for suppressing the motion artifacts were displayed by the disc burned in Example C, i.e.,  13/15 Ave/Max Mbps with“Better” Motion settings in the Frame Encoder.
    However, when this disc was compared to the AVCHD Disc burned using the FCPro Share, the latter still seemed much better. I do not know what the auto bit rate values are as set in FC Pro, but for me, the quality is quite good AND the motion artifacts are significantly reduced, especially evident with the scrolling text.
    Sorry about this long post, but I thought the detail would be necessary for the experts, and maybe helpful to others trying to get started in this BluRay arena.  Did I misuse Compressor?  I think the sample video exported as a self contained QT movie was the right thing to do?  Not sure where I went wrong.
    Thanks in advance for Feedback and Recommendations.  For now, I’m going to stay with the simpler process using Final Cut Pro Share function.

    Thank You, Brad, for responding;  glad to hear I'm not the only one having similar Compressor issues.
    You may have hit on something.  Perhaps Compressor's use of H.264 encoding was the reason for my motion artifacts?  And perhaps Final Cut Pro Share retains the 1440x1080 quality as it burns the AVCHD BluRay disc?
    I had Toast 10 for less than 30 days a couple of years ago, and was lucky to get a refund.
    What version of Toast do you have?  Wondering if new Toast 11 has improved previous bugs, especially upgrading its Chapter text, pictures, music.  I would go back to Toast if it came close to mirroring DVD Studio Pro, or even iDVD capabilities.
    Thanks,
