Fileproperty for each database

Hi,
i want to learn mydatabases file sizes(database file and log file)
select * from sys.sysfiles gives that,but it is running for only one database.
i want to learn that for each database,is it possible?
Thanks

it's giving that for only one database which is working on.
To run this script for each database on the server, you'll need to set the database context for each database so that FILEPROPERTY can be used. Your options are:
Run a script to generate another with a USE statement for each database (Fabrizzio's suggestion)
Run the script using the undocumented sp_MSforeachdb procedure with your script as a parameter (Prasad's suggestion)
Write a script with a cursor over sys.databases and execute your script with a USE statement before each execution:
DECLARE
@SqlStatement nvarchar(MAX)
,@DatabaseName sysname;
IF OBJECT_ID(N'tempdb..#DatabaseSpace') IS NOT NULL
DROP TABLE #DatabaseSpace;
CREATE TABLE #DatabaseSpace(
DATABASE_NAME sysname
,LOGICAL_NAME sysname
,FILE_SIZE_MB decimal(12, 2)
,SPACE_USED_MB decimal(12, 2)
,FREE_SPACE_MB decimal(12, 2)
,FILE_NAME sysname
DECLARE DatabaseList CURSOR LOCAL FAST_FORWARD FOR
SELECT name FROM sys.databases;
OPEN DatabaseList;
WHILE 1 = 1
BEGIN
FETCH NEXT FROM DatabaseList INTO @DatabaseName;
IF @@FETCH_STATUS = -1 BREAK;
SET @SqlStatement = N'USE '
+ QUOTENAME(@DatabaseName)
+ CHAR(13)+ CHAR(10)
+ N'INSERT INTO #DatabaseSpace
SELECT
[DATABASE_NAME] = DB_NAME()
,[LOGICAL_NAME] = f.name
,[FILE_SIZE_MB] = CONVERT(decimal(12,2),round(f.size/128.000,2))
,[SPACE_USED_MB] = CONVERT(decimal(12,2),round(fileproperty(f.name,''SpaceUsed'')/128.000,2))
,[FREE_SPACE_MB] = CONVERT(decimal(12,2),round((f.size-fileproperty(f.name,''SpaceUsed''))/128.000,2))
,[FILENAME] = f.name
FROM sys.database_files f;';
EXECUTE(@SqlStatement);
END
CLOSE DatabaseList;
DEALLOCATE DatabaseList;
SELECT * FROM #DatabaseSpace;
DROP TABLE #DatabaseSpace;;

• How to configure different listener for each database in 11gR2 RAC

Hi Friends,
Current Prod Setup :
11gR2 (11.2..0.2) RAC on RHEL 5.5 with 3 SCAN Listeners on default 1521 port.
Having 4 databases which are using SCAN-IP and listening on default port only.
As per policy, we have to create separate listeners (on different port) for each database.
like,
DB1 - 1522
DB2 - 1523
DB3 - 1524
DB4 - 1525
Even If I configure 4 listeners using NETCA, how my failover & load balancing will happen using SCAN & Newly Created Listeners ???
Thanks in advance..
Regards,
Manish

Hi,
I tried on 11gR2 TEST RAC Server to have different listener with different port (1529) for SCAN & Node Listener & tested failover, load-balancing which was successful.

Actually different ports for different databases are required to have separation of duties. Once Firewall enabled betwen Client & DB Server only privileged users would have access to particular database.

SteveI'm curious as to how you collect this information from multiple databases into one database, and of what value the data is once you have it.

• RAM for each database ?

Suppose there are 5 databases running in a server. Is there any way to know how much RAM is allocated to each database from Operating System level ? Thanks in advance.

total instance size Equlll to sga+pga so find both and sum them you will get each instance size.
use below querry to find on each database.
select decode( grouping(nm), 1, 'total', nm ) nm, round(sum(val/1024/1024)) MB
from (select 'sga' nm, sum(value) val from v$sga union all select 'pga', sum(a.value)
from v$sesstat a, v$statname b
where b.name = 'session pga memory'
and a.statistic# = b.statistic#) group by rollup(nm);

• About listeners for different databases in the same ORACLE_HOME

Hello experts, I have a doubt
I have installed 3 different databases in the same server which OS is Suse Enterprise 10. At this moment I have just one listener that registers all the services. The number of connections are big for two of the three databases so I do not know what might be the best practices for this environment. I have some question I would like you suggestion for me:
DB version: 11.1.0.7
Should I have three listener, one for each database?
Is a good practice to have only one listener for multiple instances in the same server?
Are there differents between have only one listener for all the instance and have one listener for instance?
What about the performance?
Than you in advance, I hope you can guide me.

Best practice is not to have multiple databases on one server, depending on resources.
Should I have three listener, one for each database?
No. That is pretty undesirable and requires more administration.
Is a good practice to have only one listener for multiple instances in the same server?
Yes. Remember the listener is only a broker and there are no permanent connections between client, listener and database.
Are there differents between have only one listener for all the instance and have one listener for instance?
Yes. The latter is an administration nightmare.
What about the performance?
Who cares? The only factors are
listener.log becomes too big --> set up proper cleanup procedures
The number of semaphores is exceeded (Unix) or no more threads can be created (Microsoft winblows), which will give rise to ora-12500.

• DataSource for Replicated Database

Hi, first, of all, I don't know if this forum is the right place to post my question, so sorry for bothering you!
I'm working in a project where I'm thinking about using two Oracle databases one replicating the other. I read somewhere that this using Multimaster Replication is a good way to obtain more availability. But I don't know how to create a DataSource in OC4J that can use both databases and choose the one that's not down. If I were using Weblogic, I could create a connection pool for each database, and then create a MultiPool that uses the already created pools.
I don't know if I miss something in the documentation of Multimaster Replication, but I don't see how to create a single point of access for the Replicated databases, and neither how to create a DataSource for OC4J that can access more than one database. I'm totally new in Oracle world! Perhaps it isn't the better way to obtain more availabilty, perhaps I need to use a third component to provide a single point of access for the databases. I really don't know!
Thanks in advance,
RGB

Roberto,
Multi-master replication is for distributed datbase. The best thing to have a better database availability is 9i Real Application Cluster.
Please follow http://otn.oracle.com/products/oracle9i/content.html to read more about RAC.

• How to define the SGA/ PGA or memory target for the database

Hi,
We are using oracle 9i,10g,11g on AIX 5.1,6.1,
Currently we are running the databases on default memory which was selected at the time of creation of the databases,
Now application owner want to host more databases on the the same server, so they are asking for the
rough idea about the memory required for each database,
How can we calculate the amount of the memory required for each database.
Thanks

Hi,
You have to analyze the things by yourself, if i give you some recommendation it will not fit in your Environment . so you have choice to read the oracle Doc. for different version.

You will be prompted for the value of ORACLE_SID (one of the databases). It looks like this:
oracle:orcl$ . oraenv
ORACLE_SID = [orcl] ? dwsbx
The Oracle base for ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1 is /u01/app/oracle
oracle:dwsbx$
HIGHLY APPRECIATED U R IMP Tips!!!!!
But it’s very difficult to remember & manually enter oracle SID & HOME details every time after run (. Oraenv)
.profile creation is simple method and no need to remember SID & HOME details.(for multiple DB in one server)You don't have to "remember & manually enter oracle SID & HOME details every time after run " oraenv sets all those details for you. All you have to remember is the name of the instance you want to work with. The same thing you'd have to remember if you if you created (as you suggested) three different "profiles" - actually three different shell scripts, each to set the environment for a specific instance.
Yes, I do place "default" settings in .bash_profile. But with multiple databases the "default" settings are often not going to be what you need so you'll still have to run some process to change them. Either a home-grown script or oraenv. And either way you will have to remember the names of the instances you have to chose from. So in general I see no advantage of reinventing the wheel.

He is using different port number for different instanceWhich accomplishes absolutely nothing except extra configuration headaches. It accomplishes nothing for security. It accomplishes nothing for availability.
And also it is very simple method to manage three different DB in three different listener entry (for DB maintenance activity.)Not as easy as managing one default listener. By far the most frequent listener configuration issue I see on this forum is when people try to configure one listener per database.
Single listener in multiple instance (if listener down all DB connection will affect)And why would the listener be down? I've been working full time with Oracle since version 7.3 - somewhere around 1995. I've NEVER seen a listener fall over and die. I have seen many people on this forum whose db connections failed because they were trying (unsucessfully) to configure multiple listeners.
All of my servers are running multiple databases. I have one test server that is running close to a dozen separate databases. One listener. I've NEVER had a situation where I thought to myself, "Gee, it would really help if I had created a separate server for each database"

• Select last value for each day from table

Hi!
I have a table that stores several measures for each day. I need two queries against this table and I am not quite sure how to write them.
The table stores these lines (sample data)
*DateCol1                 Value       Database*
27.09.2009 12:00:00       100           DB1
27.09.2009 20:00:00       150           DB1
27.09.2009 12:00:00       1000          DB2
27.09.2009 20:00:00       1100          DB2
28.09.2009 12:00:00       200           DB1
28.09.2009 20:00:00       220           DB1
28.09.2009 12:00:00       1500          DB2
28.09.2009 20:00:00 2000 DB2Explanation of data in the sample table:
We measure the size of the data files belonging to each database one or more times each day. The value column shows the size of the database files for each database at a given time (European format for date in DateCol1).
What I need:
Query 1:
The query should return the latest measurement for each day and database. Like this:
*DateCol1       Value      Database*
27.09.2009        150          DB1
27.09.2009       1100          DB2
28.09.2009        220          DB1
28.09.2009       2000          DB2Query 2:
The query should return the average measurement for each day and database. Like this:
*DateCol1       Value      Database*
27.09.2009       125          DB1
27.09.2009      1050          DB2
28.09.2009       210          DB1
28.09.2009 1750 DB2Could someone please help me to write these two queries?
Please let me know if you need further information.

For first query you can use analytic function and solve it.
with t
as
select to_date('27.09.2009 12:00:00', 'dd.mm.yyyy hh24:mi:ss') dt,       100 val,           'DB1' db from dual union all
select to_date('27.09.2009 20:00:00', 'dd.mm.yyyy hh24:mi:ss'),       150,           'DB1' from dual union all
select to_date('27.09.2009 12:00:00', 'dd.mm.yyyy hh24:mi:ss'),       1000,          'DB2' from dual union all
select to_date('27.09.2009 20:00:00', 'dd.mm.yyyy hh24:mi:ss'),       1100,          'DB2' from dual union all
select to_date('28.09.2009 12:00:00', 'dd.mm.yyyy hh24:mi:ss'),       200,           'DB1' from dual union all
select to_date('28.09.2009 20:00:00', 'dd.mm.yyyy hh24:mi:ss'),       220,           'DB1' from dual union all
select to_date('28.09.2009 12:00:00', 'dd.mm.yyyy hh24:mi:ss'),       1500,          'DB2' from dual union all
select to_date('28.09.2009 20:00:00', 'dd.mm.yyyy hh24:mi:ss'),       2000,          'DB2' from dual
select dt, val, db
from (
select row_number() over(partition by trunc(dt), db order by dt) rno,
count(*) over(partition by trunc(dt), db) cnt,
t.*
from t)
where rno = cntFor second you can just group by
with t
as
select to_date('27.09.2009 12:00:00', 'dd.mm.yyyy hh24:mi:ss') dt,       100 val,           'DB1' db from dual union all
select to_date('27.09.2009 20:00:00', 'dd.mm.yyyy hh24:mi:ss'),       150,           'DB1' from dual union all
select to_date('27.09.2009 12:00:00', 'dd.mm.yyyy hh24:mi:ss'),       1000,          'DB2' from dual union all
select to_date('27.09.2009 20:00:00', 'dd.mm.yyyy hh24:mi:ss'),       1100,          'DB2' from dual union all
select to_date('28.09.2009 12:00:00', 'dd.mm.yyyy hh24:mi:ss'),       200,           'DB1' from dual union all
select to_date('28.09.2009 20:00:00', 'dd.mm.yyyy hh24:mi:ss'),       220,           'DB1' from dual union all
select to_date('28.09.2009 12:00:00', 'dd.mm.yyyy hh24:mi:ss'),       1500,          'DB2' from dual union all
select to_date('28.09.2009 20:00:00', 'dd.mm.yyyy hh24:mi:ss'),       2000,          'DB2' from dual
select trunc(dt) dt, avg(val) val, db
from t
group by trunc(dt), db
order by trunc(dt)

• Set RMAN catalog default setting for all databases

Hi,
I am running a 11gR1 RMAN catalog.
I am wondering if is it possible to change a default configuration setting in the RMAN catalog so that all the new databases will inherit it.
For example, I would like all the new databases registered to the catalog to have:
BACKUP OPTIMIZATION ON
RETENTION POLICY TO REDUNDANCY 7
Thanks,
massi

No, the catalog cannot "dictate" configurations for databases. Each database retains configuration in the controlfile and this can be updated only by an rman connection (i.e. rman connecting to the database as a target). The CONFIGURE command in rman is used to set a "permanent" configuration parameter for a database but must be issued for each database individually.

and when i see the serviced databases for this listener, i see both the databases under this listener.
does this mean that one listener in one system is all required to service how many databases as possible.
or do we need one unique listener for each database. if then how can i create unique listeners.
Can someone help me please.
Thanks,
Philip.

Philip,
I will try to answer at your questions.
so from what u r saying is, if i have 3 databases in
my linux system under different oracle_homes.
all i need is one listener.ora file and have all 3
databases start under this one file. and i can delete
the other 2 listener.ora files, because i dont need
them at all.For this, my answer is a question : why have different ORACLE_HOME if databases are in same version ? This is Ok when database are in different oracle version.
1. if i want to know how many listeners are in setup...You can see it with lsnrctl command, after set well ORACLE_HOME (for linux, export ...) :
set ORACLE_HOME=e:\oracle\ora92
E:\oracle\ora92\bin>lsnrctl status
LSNRCTL for 32-bit Windows: Version 9.2.0.7.0 - Production on 16-NOV-2005 22:44:

Instance "demo9i", status UNKNOWN, has 1 handler(s) for this service...
The command completed successfully
E:\oracle\ora92\bin>>
2. when i create a listener using net configuartion...For my part, manually seems the only one solution in your case.
>
3.when i have 3 databases and i when i login through...When you are logon to database, you can see what db with
select * from v$instance;But to connect to an other db, you need first set as well your ORACLE_SID
export ORACLE_SID=emrep
sqlplus '/ as sysdba'>
4. when i create a database by default the listener...Default name is well in most of case, but you can give a name to know the environment (like LISTENER_DEV, LISTENER_PROD...)
Perhaps you need to read some Oracle docs. You can find here http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/portal.portal_db?selected=1 too many docs, I can advise you to read 2 Day DBA to start as well your dba life.
Good luck in your job,
Nicolas.

• Memory utalization of each database

Hi All,
Is there any way to record memory utilization for each database in one Instance. I have around 7 databases and want to know which one is utilizing more at current time.
Shamas Saeed (if Post helpful please mark as Answer) http://shamas-saeed.blogspot.com

My Problem is that my database server is using more than 22 GB memory and it is increasing. Where is rest of memory and why it is not reverting back to free or OS.
Second is Kindly give me best practices for setup memory for a database server machine.

Shamas,
I would request you to read first about SQL Server memory and then ask question. It seems like you are posting and giving own answer. Although you can answer your post but I would request you to take some time before posting question
What you are seeing is not an issue a database if utilized much would force SQL Server memory to cache pages corresponding to that database and it seems like that database has used all available memory. SQL Server can utilize all memory if max server memory
has not been fixed. I guess that is what you found in the blog
Again SQL Server would not release memory once taken unless OS flags low memory notification. If you want to read more about SQL server memory

• Unable to perform for-each on quer-database() result

Hi
I am using the quer-database function in my XSLT which is returning more than 1 value.
when i try assigning these values I am only able to assign the first row of elements. When I try dragging the for-each activity and try using it with the qurey-database node set I get an error saying "An expression must have only one link to the Target schema".
Is there some way that I can achieve this in my XSLT?
<xsl:template match="/">
<xsl:for-each select="">
<client:processResponse>
<client:Name>
<xsl:value-of select="oraext:query-database(concat("select entryid from XXLF_CHARACTERS where item_number=","'",/ns0:Customer/ns0:CustomerInfo,"'"),false(),true(),"jdbc/devag")"/>
</client:Name>
<client:Name2>
<xsl:value-of select="oraext:query-database(concat("select entryvalue from XXLF_CHARACTERS where item_number=","'",/ns0:Customer/ns0:CustomerInfo,"'"),false(),true(),"jdbc/devag")"/>
</client:Name2>
</client:processResponse>
</xsl:for-each>
</xsl:template>
This is what my XSLT looks like
Thanks.

You have to use ROW and ROWSET to be able to able to get multiple elements... See the sample bellow...
