Finance GL/ AR /AP extraction

Hello Experts,
I am a newb with respect to BI/BW extraction. Please read through and let me know if all the configuration is proper and is there any change required.
I donot have access to SAP notes. I have referred to best practices, but for the GL account the document is kinda of offtrack or I believe its incomplete.
Very well here it goes.
For GL extraction.
General Ledger (New): Transaction Figures
ODS object 0FIGL_O10 is connected to infoSource 0FI_GL_6 which is further connected to datasource 0FI_GL_6
FIGL: Transaction Figures- Cost of Sales Ledger
ODS object 0FIGL_O07 is connected to infoSource 0FI_GL_7 which is further connected to datasource 0FI_GL_7
General Ledger: Line items
ODS object 0FIGL_O02 is connected to infoSource 0FI_GL_4 which is further connected to datasource 0FI_GL_4
For AR Extraction
FIAR:Transaction Figures
ODS object 0FIAR_O06 is connected to infoSource 0FI_AR_6 which is further connected to datasource 0FI_AR_6
FIAR:Line Item
ODS object 0FI_AR_O03 is connected to infoSource 0FI_AR_4 which is further connected to datasource 0FI_AR_4
For AP Extraction
FIAP:Transaction Figures
ODS object 0FIAP_O06 is connected to infoSource 0FI_AP_6 which is further connected to datasource 0FI_AP_6
FIAP:Line Item
ODS object 0FI_AP_O03 is connected to infoSource 0FI_AP_4 which is further connected to datasource 0FI_AP_4
I need to know whether the above configuration is good. My following question is with regard to the infopackages. All of the above sources are delta compatible and so I need to know how to begin the loading of data
This is what I see in the infopackage.
Under the update tab in the infopackage
Update mode
Full Update
Initialize Delta Process
> Initialization with Data transfer
> Initialization without Data Transfer
> Early Delta Initialization.
I am thinking that the following extraction steps would be appropriate:
1) Do a full update of GL Line items, Transaction and Cost of Sales and then do a full update for AP and AR Line and Transaction.
2) Initialize with Data Transfer should be done once a full upload is done.
Please throw some more light. Your help would be highly appreciated and awarded accordingly.
Thank you.

Let's take just on flow in consideration, for instance the GL loading process.
The simplest staging scenario needs a first InfoPackage (IP1) for initializing the delta loading process, and a second InfoPackage (IP2) for a delta loading.
No InfoPackage for a full loading would be needed in this basic scenario.
You'll run IP1 once. Without any restriction in the selection tab, the delta process will be initialized for the entire set of data provided by the DataSource.
You'll run IP2 every day. This packege will transfer all the new/changed/deleted (delta) records. As the delta process has been initialized for the entire dataset, it'll be delta-<i>sensible</i> to the entire dataset.
For efficiency reasons (a delta process is less time consuming when it runs against a smaller dataset), you could define one ore more InfoPackage for loading chunks of data in full mode.
Let's say have to load 2 years of data. You might create another InfoPackage (IP3) which will load the past year's data, in full mode.
When editing IP3, you can set this restriction in the tab <i>selection data</i>, by setting the fiscal year to the previous year. Moreover, in the tab <i>update parameters</i> the update mode needs to be <i>full</i> .
On the other hand, you have to edit IP1, and set the fiscal year to the current year (in the tab <i>selection data</i>, you've got to fill the field from value with the current year, and the field to value with the year 9999 -- this way the delta process will work also next year and so on).
This change will allow you to initialize the delta process the current year's data -- and any data that will be posted in the future.
You will run IP3 once, and you'll get the past year's data. Next you'll run IP1 once to initialize the delta process for this year's data. Finally you'll schedule the run of IP2 for every day.
The number of full data loadings you'll need depends on the amount of data you have to fetch from the source system.

  • Difference between Logistic extraction( Lo Cockpit) and Finance extraction

    Hi All,
Can anyone explain me, Why Finance data sources are not included in the LO-COCKPIT. Why logistics data sources are given this much care. Why there is no Filling /Deleting Set up tables in the FI extractors. Can any one explain how the FI extractors pull the data from the base tables.

  • New GL Line Item Extraction

Please clarify this requirement for Line Item Data from  New GL. my client BMW Inc have configured  New GL in ECC 6.0  if i pull all the records to BW from FAGLFLEXA (Line Item Table) is that sufficient to meet the <b>all line item GL data</b> or is there any other tables missing that also shall be combined to bring the Line item GL  data. Please help me for this if u can check with any of your friends in FICO.
    2. I have seen that BSEG AND BKPF are used earlier in old FI  versions so what is there now in New GL ECC 6.0 that will suffice for these BSEG AND BKPF  or still i have to pull records by using these tables. for GL Line Item Data.
If you can help me to give the short  overview of  New GL posting process it would be great.
    Thanks
    Regards
    Soniya Kapoor

    1. If I use FAGLFLEXA Line Item Table , how to combine the remaining fields such as BLART Document Type etc.. from BSEG AND bkpf
We are using BSEG_ADD instead of bseg with the same DS – 0FI_GL_4. you would need to enhance the same DS to read the BSEG_ADD. But I would suggest talk to ur finance folks to see if BSEG_ADD captures all the required fields as that of FAGLFLEXA
    2. What is BSEG_ADD: Entry View of Accounting Document for Additional Ledgers, Should i also Include this table since it contains some fields like BSTAT
document status etc for line item.
It is a new table that comes along with the new GL – it even captures all the line items just like BSEG as in the old ledger.
    3. If I take the approach with line item as per new GL TABLE : FAGLFLEXA. and
BSEG_ADD by creating generic data source on two table and enhance any other required fields like blart Document Type will it solve the line item extraction purpose
If ur finance folks can confirm which table need to be used, ur strategy might change. If say BSEG_ADD is good enough to capture all the items, do as I suggested by enhancing the old DS - fi_gl_4
    4. I took the approach as mentioned in Point 3 . but not able to create the generic data source
    Not sure of ur approach
    5. I have reviewed 0FIGl_4 LINE ITEM Data source and found that it contains only bseg and bkpf but no faglflexa table fields. so suggest if i can proceed as number 4.
Just as I said add code to make it read BSEG_ADD too along with BSEG.

  • FICO:What are the critical reporting requirements of a finance department?

    Hi Experts,
Can you help me identify all the reporting requirements of a finance departmentn when it comes to the use of BW?
    i. From a reporting perpective, what does the finance department need from BI to say that BI is a worthwhile investiment?
ii. Does BI provide any of the answers provided in i. (above) through its business content objects? If so, can you discuss how BI provides each of the solutions? (I will apprecaite a discussion for the "finance team" and not neccessarily for the IT team)
iii. If all the requirements of a finance department are already available with a newly installed BI, then
what are the typical functions of a BI consultant  to a finance department? i.e. why will a finance department find the need to bring in a BI consutant to advise them on how best to use BW in their environment?
iv. How does the above discussion pertain to CO. i.e. If your discussion above is strictly for FI, can you address i, ii, iii for CO?
    Thanks and Happy Holiday.

    Hi
From a reporting perpective, what does the finance department need from BI to say that BI is a worthwhile investiment?
Normally Financial reports needed for the customer will be P&L, Balance sheet, Cashflow statements and the AR, AP and also Controlling and the Turn over Ratios to know about the financial funding stage about their organization based on their functional requirements.
ii. Does BI provide any of the answers provided in i. (above) through its business content objects? If so, can you discuss how BI provides each of the solutions? (I will apprecaite a discussion for the "finance team" and not neccessarily for the IT team)
Better to talk to your FI CO team for this to understand better at ECC functional level to know what would be the best extractors that you can report on. BI content is already there for almost FI CO reports.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/2d/955a73da4d6d41a0a6128caf274ce8/frameset.htm
and everything mentioned clearly in that why , how , what.
iii. If all the requirements of a finance department are already available with a newly installed BI, then
what are the typical functions of a BI consultant to a finance department? i.e. why will a finance department find the need to bring in a BI consutant to advise them on how best to use BW in their environment?
Though the Finance team has every Extractor at ECC side its only BI consultant who has to work on Modeling , Extraction, Reporting Part for BEx Reports. You have to Map the Fields even though its BI Content some of the Customized objects like Routines, Formulas would be there for each and every project .
iv. How does the above discussion pertain to CO. i.e. If your discussion above is strictly for FI, can you address i, ii, iii for CO?

  • Extraction, Flat File, Generic Data Source, Delta Initialization

Extraction, Flat File, Generic Data Source, Delta Initialization
I have couple of questions regarding data extraction.
    1.     If you have Data Source a Flat File e.g. Excel file I know that you have to create Data Source at BW side. How do you upload updates, by selecting Delta Update when executing next Data Load? Do you ever u201Cconvertu201D this Excel file into Application Tables to become SAP Source 
    2.     Can you please give me example of situation where you had to create Generic Data Source? What is difference between Time Stamp, Calend. Day and Numeric Pointer. Which one is most common to select?
    3.     I read somewhere that Generic Data Source does not have Setup Table. I thought that you have to have Setup Table in order to load transaction Data otherwise you will lock the Application Tables. Where am I going wrong im my thinking please?
    4.     What are steps in terms of IP before, under and after Delta Initialization. I belive that you can do two ways:
Full Update - Initialize Delta Process (without Data Transfer) u2013 Delta Update  or
Initialize Delta Process (with Data Transfer) u2013 Delta Update
Am I right? What is most common method and why?
    5.     If you want to add a filed in Data Source after 6 month using it, you want to do it without re-init Delta Queue. You add field in RSA6, then provide info for ABAP to populate new filed (info u2013 name of Data Source, Extract Structure, field added, name of Application Table which contains the field). How does it work now as there is no SetUp table it has been deleted after Initialisation? How does Delta Queue know that it is going to receive data which has been  expanded by one field or it may does not need to know at all?
    THANKSSSSSSSSSs

    Hi,
    1. If you have Data Source a Flat File e.g. Excel file I know that you have to create Data Source at BW side. How do you upload updates, by selecting Delta Update when executing next Data Load? Do you ever u201Cconvertu201D this Excel file into Application Tables to become SAP Source
Once you create Datasource for A flat file extraction then it is file source system specific hence you cont change to Application table source Data source
In info package you can change the source as application server instead of desktop no need to change the DS
    2. Can you please give me example of situation where you had to create Generic Data Source? What is difference between Time Stamp, Calend. Day and Numeric Pointer. Which one is most common to select?
When we don't find any standard extractor then we can go for Generic(if i want information sales along with finance information in a data source then generally we dont get standard one hence we can go for generic DS)
Check the below link for More about generic DS .
    http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/BI/Generic+Extraction
for Delta capturing you can use
Timestamp(if the table has time stamp filed  so it can stamp the last changed record in that table hence it is easy to get delta based on the time stamp)
Calday- (If the table doesn't have the Timestamp filed then search for Calday where you can stamp the delta based on the date when documents are changed )
Numericpointer : If the table doesn't above both then we go for this option where you can the numeric value change stamp )
    3. I read somewhere that Generic Data Source does not have Setup Table. I thought that you have to have Setup Table in order to load transaction Data otherwise you will lock the Application Tables. Where am I going wrong im my thinking please?
Generic datasource nothing but we extracting data directly from the database table without any interface between the application/systems
    Correct
Once you add the new field to structure(DS) you will get the data as on date onwards not historical data hence what is the concept of setup table  ( delta records come from the Delta Que not from the setup table )
If you want histaric data to new field then you need to setp table deletion ...etc...
    Hope it is clear..

  • Queries on Modelling,Extraction

    Hi BW Guys,
I have one query on modelling that is
    1) If we have 50 characteristics in a cube, how many dimensions we will create, suppose we created 10 dimensions, how would you arrange the characteristics ?  Would you give any preference in arranging the characteristics?
               The other queries are
                                        1) what are the differences in SD&FI,if u have worked on FI&SD PROJECTS?
2)What would you do if repeat delta also fails?
3)What is so special about LO Extraction?
4)Tell me errors in BW Side not R/3 Side?
Can u please help me out for this questions.
    Thanks
    Amarnath K

    Regarding Dimensions
Every additional characteristic or a dimension incorporated into the InfoCube is a burden on the system because of the DIMIDs and the SIDs that are to be created or located for reuse.Hence, it is highly recommended to include in the InfoCube only the characteristics that will really be used in the queries. However, if you would like to incorporate additional characteristics that will potentially be used for future reporting, it would be beneficial to house this data in an ODS.
    In summary,
o Do not include a characteristic in an InfoCube that will never be used in any query on that InfoCube.
o Between using a navigational attribute vs. a characteristic, the first option is better for load performance whereas the second option is better for query performance.
o Minimize the size of the dimension tables
o Minimize the number of dimensions, but it is more important to minimize dimension sizes
If more than 13 characteristics are included in the InfoCube, group related characteristics into a dimension to achieve a good balance between the sizes of the dimensions vs. the number of dimensions
o For high cardinality characteristics use Line Item dimensions
o For high cardinality dimensions use B-Tree index type
o If the number of characteristics will always be less than or equal to 13, create one dimension for each characteristic and mark each dimension as a Line Item Dimension.*
    1) what are the differences in SD&FI,if u have worked on FI&SD PROJECTS?
SD is realred to Sales & distribution whereas FI is related to Finance. sales and distribution you can have info abt sales , billing  whereas FI includes Accounts payable & receivable etc. You can find several threads dedicated for this.
2)What would you do if repeat delta also fails?
You should analyse the cause of the failure and work on it. You can delete the request by making it red and pull it again. But first try to solve the failure cause.*
3)What is so special about LO Extraction?
Nothing special as such. But you can select how data should be transferred to from source system. The type of delta to be maintained.*
4)Tell me errors in BW Side not R/3 Si
In extraction you get errors for SID's not maintained. IDOC stuck in queue etc.

  • How to find the common dimension tables used in Finance AR/PR and GL,

    Hi All,
I need to find the common dimension table used in the Finance modules (AP,AR,PO,GL...), Since separate teams are working on populating each modules, and we need to find the dependency so that our loads shouldn’t impact others.
    Thanks!
    OBI

    Hi Guys,
    Thanks for all your answers.
Yes....You are all right. We can list out the used tables upto certain extent. Anyhow, I have done some R&D to derive the SQL's which is given below:
    SELECT TABLE_NAME FROM USER_TABLES
    MINUS
    SELECT DISTINCT UPPER(REFERENCED_NAME)
    FROM user_dependencies
    where
    referenced_type='TABLE' and UPPER(NAME) in
select distinct UPPER(object_name) from user_objects where UPPER(object_type) in
    'MATERIALIZED VIEW',
    'PACKAGE',
    'PACKAGE BODY',
    'PROCEDURE',
    'TRIGGER',
    'VIEW',
    'FUNCTION'
    UNION
    SELECT UT.TABLE_NAME FROM
    SELECT TABLE_NAME FROM USER_TABLES
    MINUS
    SELECT DISTINCT UPPER(REFERENCED_NAME)
    FROM user_dependencies
    where
    referenced_type='TABLE' and UPPER(NAME) in
select distinct UPPER(object_name) from user_objects where UPPER(object_type) in
    'MATERIALIZED VIEW',
    'PACKAGE',
    'PACKAGE BODY',
    'PROCEDURE',
    'TRIGGER',
    'VIEW',
    'FUNCTION'
    AND REFERENCED_OWNER=(SELECT sys_context('USERENV', 'CURRENT_SCHEMA') FROM dual)
    ) UT,
    ( SELECT * FROM USER_SOURCE
    WHERE NAME IN
( SELECT DISTINCT NAME FROM USER_SOURCE
    WHERE TYPE NOT IN ('TYPE')
    AND
    UPPER(TEXT) LIKE '%EXECUTE IMMEDIATE%'
    ) US
    WHERE
    UPPER(US.TEXT) LIKE '%'||UPPER(UT.TABLE_NAME)||'%'
    AND
    (UPPER(US.TEXT) NOT LIKE '%--%')
The above SQL Query can list out unused tables by checking the Dynamic SQL Statement also upto some level only.
Once we extracted the list of unused tables, having a manual check would be also greater to verify as it is should not impact the business applications.

  • BI content and LO extraction difference

    Hi ,
    Please tell me
    1) what is the main difference between BI content and LO extraction.
    2) What happens when we install business content and what happens when we do LO extraction.why are we doing this extraction.?
    3) Which process must be done first.
and LO is for logistics extraction i.e. SD,MM etc.(please correct if i am wrong)
    4) what about extraction with respect to finance is there anything like LO extraction for finance also?
    please explain in simple english.
    regards
    lap.

    1) what is the main difference between BI content and LO extraction.
BI contenat means the objects delivered by SAP. This includes data sources, data providers, info objects, udate rules, transfer rules, reprots, etc etc.
LO extraction refers to the process of extracting logistics data.
So, these two are not comparables.
    2) What happens when we install business content and what happens when we do LO extraction.why are we doing this extraction.?
When you install BI content, all the objects ( depending on the mode of collection in RSA1 - business content) and if they are already present in the system in which is installed, merge.
LO extraction, as said in 1. above,  when you extract LO, depending on the application area, it extracts the transaction data. For example, if you chose extract Sales order information, it picsk all the sales order data from the R/3 system.
    3) Which process must be done first.
You need to install the BI first before you start the LO extraction process.
and LO is for logistics extraction i.e. SD,MM etc.(please correct if i am wrong)
YES, you are right. LO referes to all LO processes such as SD, MM, PM, PP, QM, CS. etc.
    4) what about extraction with respect to finance is there anything like LO
For all other extractors, there is no special steps like LO. However, for COPA and FISL there wont be any BI content data sources.

  • All About COPA extraction and business view

    Hi All,
I have gone through lots of questions posted in this forum about the functionla side of COPA and also on extraction side. Is there any document( preferably a pdf) where I can find all the info in one document about COPA functional aspects .
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Srini

    Hi Srinivas,
Give us ur mail ID, i can send u one doc.
    Re: COPA R/3 vs BW(aCCOUNT BASED-PA)
One of the differences between account based CO-PA and costing-based CO-PA that there is no delta extraction. There is also 1 other rule. You can only select 1 fiscal-period. The set-up is similar to costing based CO-PA.
The big difference between Account Based CO-AP and Costing Based CO-PA is of course the data is stored in the CO Modules.
Account based CO-PA is part of the CO concept. This means when you post to a cost element the data is posted to a CO-module (CCA, OPA, PA, PS etc). The way the data is stored is also different from costing based PA.
The CO tables like COEP, COBK (for the individual item are used and the COSS and COSP are used for the totals.
The object where the posting are related to they are stored in the CE4... table. So if you want to analyse the data there is 1 keyfigure and the cost-element is a characteristic (account model).
COsting Based CO-PA data is statistical data. This means that the update of CO-PA is not always equal to what is stored in the CO modules or in finance. The cost element is also not always updated and there are also more key-figures used to store info about the type of costs or revenues. Tables as CE1, CE2 , CE3 and CE4 are used.
Extraction for Account Based CO-PA is only based on the total records (full loads are only possible). For costing based CO-PA there it is possible work with init and delta packages and also to select data from the individual postings databases (CE1, CE2).
The way you generate the extractor is similar.
Hopelfully this gives you a bit more background of the CO-PA module.
    Assign points if it helps..

  • Too many archived documents are suddenly extracted into BW

    Dear All,
I am not person of Finance but I will try to provide necessary details here.
We have archiving in place in ECC. For a specific document, if I go to FB03 for the document, it shows the information but with message that 'Document is already archived'. Document is related to year 2011.
Now, suddenly too many documents were extracted last week spanning from year 2009 to 2011. When I check in 'Document changes', it shows that last change was done in 2011 only.
I want to know what possible change could cause these archived documents to extract again into BW.
or any pointers are also welcome.
    Thanks,

If you bought it from Apple, you are covered by one year of AppleCare, which includes three months of free phone support, for any problem. You should take full advantage of that. It sounds like you may have hardware issues (the audio jack) but a lot of your items sound like a matter of changing preferences or display settings - Apple can help with this, as can a local friendly Mac consultant.
For example, you mention that you get a "screen-wide mass of writing". Do you know what application you're opening the file in? Many Mac apps have full-screen mode, which sounds like what you describe, and you can get out of it by moving your cursor to the top right of the screen until you see the menu bar appear - there's a blue icon with two arrows, and clicking this will get you out of full screen mode.
QuickTime does not play all formats of video. Try an alternative video player such as VLC. (http://videolan.org/VLC)
    Hope that helps somewhat.
