Find Window file path utility

Hi All!
I have used a nifty utility or extension or preference that displays the full directory path at the bottom of the finder window. I'd like to make this happen in Lion.
Anyone know the secret?
Thanks,
Greg

Charlie,
You are a genius. There are som many moving parts to Lion that sometimes it's hard to remember where exactly to look.
I feel like an idiot, but I appreciate the help.
Thanks.

  • Windows file paths

    Hi All,
As I have tried a few times, the windows file path separator (\) character is not directly compatible with the way java works.
So if I have to create
    File file = new File("C:\temp");
the file won't work, I need to append the escape sequence \ also like,
    File file = new File("C:\\temp");
What I wanted to know is there any java utility classes provided by JDK to convert this kind of file path to directly File objects?
    Please suggest.

  • Can't find .dmg file Disk Utility shows is there

I've been trying to clean up/gain space on my G4-12" PowerBook. In Disk Utility it shows a .dmg file that when mounted is an audio CD I received from a friend a couple of years ago. I imported the songs from it at the time, ejected, and that was that. Now I see in Disk Utility that this dmg holds ±500mb of space, but I can't find it to delete it. This is quite strange and never happened before. Find, Spotlight, EasyFind (including looking for invisibles), etc. cannot locate it. In Disk utility it shows the path as /Volumes/<name>, implying it is mounted. Upon clicking 'Open' it mounts the <AudioCD> which then shows up in the left side of my Finder windows. I can open this volume, click on a song and it plays, so it is clear that it does exist and not just an artifact. I can eject the AudioCD and it disappears. But I can't get to the .dmg file to make it go away.
Any ideas on this are greatly appreciated as I've run out of paths to try....but I've not dipped into Terminal so would greatly prefer an alternative if it exists. Thanks in advance!

Have you done a Find/Search using just dmg, rather than a search for the file name?

  • Finder Window & File Sharing

    Hi,
Every time someone sends me a file using iChat, when the file is done downloading to my desktop a finder window automatically opens. Is there a preference or a way to make it so the finder window does not open when it is done downloading?
    Thanks,
    paul

Thanks for replying to my post.
I agree. I think that is just the way it works. It is the same as when I connect to another computer on my local network and the finder window automatically pops open.

  • Finding windows file in finder

My wife uses Parallels so she can use Quickbooks and one online database that only works with IE. It is the only thing that goes wrong with her MBP. Trying to back stuff up, anyone know how we find the windows files through the mac finder?
    thanks

    Hi Daniel,
a Parallels VM (Virtual Machine) merely consists of two files on your OSX volume.
Both of them have the same filename that is also the name of your Windows VM plus the file extensions .hdd and .pvs
The .pvs file is the "configuration" file of the VM and the .hdd file contains the actual Windows VM "harddisk/partition".
To my knowledge there is no way to access single files within the Windows Vm .hdd file.
However, within the Parallels Folder in your Application Folder you should have an application named "Parallels Explorer.app" whith which it should be possible to access/copy files within your Windows VM.

  • OK how do I put at the bottom of Lion Finder window the path and size of a file.

      I miss that.

Thanks feeling better about Lion.  Which the upgrade process looked at all my setting and added them.

  • Unble to code to find a file path

i just started using flex beta3 and i tried to developed an
application in which i used an image control and a
button-control.The thing is that i can provide the source path of
the picture during design time and it get loaded but when i
provided a code using the browse() method and it helps somewhat in
my application by showing the "open file window" and i can select
the image, whatever i want but it didn't loaded into my image
control i mean the selected picture is unable to load into image
control in my application . I also used the "file reference"
property in my application. Pliz solve it.

Let me see if I understand:
You are using FileReference class to browse for an image file
in your local file system and then, you want to load that image
    into a <mx:image> control?
I so, lamentably, the answer is YOU CAN NOT DO IT because of
a built it Flash Player Security Rule.
In the same way, you can not drop files into the flash world
or even drag items outside that world, write files in a specific
and well-known path (Common Files in Win or Home/Library/... in
MacOS and many other things that could be very interesting.... What
can we do?... it's the law.

  • ITunes can't find file path

A year ago I moved my iTunes Library (iTunes Music Folder) to a second internal drive following Kim Komando's instructions and all went well with no problems. I called the second drive M and created a folder called "My Music 2" where I put the iTune files.
Yesterday I reformated and reinstalled Windows XP and then copied "My Documents" back to the drive but in the restore process it deleted the folder called "My Music 2" on my second drive. I reinstalled iTunes and while all my music files are there inside iTunes including the Playlists, iTunes cannot find the file paths.
What steps do I need to follow so all the files will play, and if it's not too complicated a process I wouldn't mind putting the files back on my second drive? Is there a simple way to do all this?

My itunes file is messed up and wont work file path not found but it wont let me uninstall so i can fix.  Plus it cant fine bonjour.msi or quicktime.msi
Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Next, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Next, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try an iTunes install. Does it go through properly? If so, does iTunes launch properly now?

What search modality? Are you talking about spotlight?  If so when you hover over the ouput and the info box opens,  hold the option-command key and the file path presents itself at the bootm of the pane.
If it is a search in Finder  file path at the bottom of Finder window results.
In no search Finder window you can control click the title of the Finder Window for path or control-click the tool bar and drag the Path icon to the toolbar.
    Also Finder>View>show path bar

  • A weird question on opening a new finder window

this is not a big deal, but it really bugs me. when you have a finder window open and do apple-N to get a new one, it puts the new one right on top of the one already open. this is totally stupid. 99% of the time when i open a new window it's because i want to drag a file from one location to another, in which case i have to first move the new window. is there some way you can have it put new windows someplace else other than right on top of the current one?
and please, please, please dear apple, give us tabs in finder windows like in safari. i keep expecting it to happen in each new system upgrade, and it keeps never happening.

...when you have a finder window open and do apple-N to get a new one, it puts the new one right on top of the one already open... is there some way you can have it put new windows someplace else other than right on top of the current one?
In addition to the excellent suggestions regarding the Sidebar offered earlier, you might consider creating an AppleScript and adding it to your Finder window's toolbar. Once added to the toolbar, the script would serve as a button, which, when clicked on, would open a fully viewable new Finder window positioned above and slightly to the left of the existing Finder window. The existing Finder window would be repositioned if necessary and set to a size matching the dimensions of the new window.
The example scripts below were created with the assumption that your Home folder's Finder window opens when you press ⌘N. These scripts can be modified so that another window is opened instead by replacing the word "home" where it appears in the script with "desktop" or "documents" or "applications" etc. To open the "Computer" window use the command *make new Finder window* exclusively. Paths to non system-level folders, or user-created folders, can be specified by using an *open "Macintosh HD:path:to:folder"* command.
Copy and then paste either block of code below into your AppleScript Script Editor (Applications > AppleScript > Script Editor). From the Script Editor's File menu choose Save As > File Format: application, and leave the Options unchecked.
To add the button to your Finder window's toolbar, simply open any Finder window and drag the saved AppleScript icon to a convenient location on the toolbar. Let go of your mouse when you see the round green "+" indicator.
    +This script might work best with a monitor set to a minimum 1024 x 768 screen resolution:+
    *tell application "Finder"*
    activate
*make new Finder window to (path to home folder)*
    *set the bounds of window 1 to {70, 59, 955, 399}*
    *set the bounds of window 2 to {100, 403, 985, 743}*
    *activate window 2*
    *end tell*
+This version would be more suitable for a monitor set to 800 x 600 screen resolution:+
    *tell application "Finder"*
    activate
*make new Finder window to (path to home folder)*
    *set the bounds of window 1 to {85, 47, 715, 317}*
    *set the bounds of window 2 to {115, 320, 745, 595}*
    *activate window 2*
    *end tell*
    Good luck.

  • How to get file path?

    Hi all,
I have a tcode ysd_gr. When I execute it, it has one select option & I entered the values as *.csv. It gave 6 csv files(only file names) & I want to retreive data from one file.
So I need to find the file path. The functional consultants told that the files are in Application server (there are more than 5 application servers are used here).
So I need to know how to find the file path  and in which application server the file is placed.
    Thanks in advance,
    Vijay.

Go to t-code AL11 and give the path name excluding the file name:
I mean for example the name is as below:
    D:\usr\sap\IDS\DVEBMGS00\data\test.csv
here test.csv is the file name.
So go to AL11 and give upto D:\usr\sap\IDS\DVEBMGS00\data and dauble click on it and search for the file name.
Hope this will solve your problem.
    Reward if helpful.
    Thank you.

  • File path in CV01N transaction

    Hi,
I'm basically a ABAP programmer. I dont know much about the AutoCAD.
Our requirement is, in CV03N transaction, we have the reference file path which is having the file path of the drawing. This is looks like a windows file path. I beleive generally all these drawings will be stored in a shared file server like
Common-server\All-drawings\Draw1.drw. Now the question is  if we have changed the file server, like "Common-Server1" in this case, we have to change all the file paths that are already have the old file path to the new file path.
Is there any way to avoid this? I mean can we have some alias name or something which we'll enter in the file path value while creating the document using CV01N so that we can avoid the rework of changing the file path for all the documents.
And also I would like to know how can we change this file path for the existing documents? I saw a FM BAPI_DOCUMENT_CHANGE, but I couldnt get exactly what I need to pass for this BAPI.
Can you please help me in this?
If the question is not clear, please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Kishore

you can also assign a driveletter instead of working with the UNC path (you're file server administrator can arrange that). it the servername changes in the future the path remains the same. only the systemadministrator has to change the inlog script so the driveletter assignment points to the new servername.
with BAPI_DOCUMENT_CHANGE you pass the document info record data on the import paramaters and the file path in the tables section on DOCUMENTFILES
so you define a table as type BAPI_DOC_FILES and fill it with the file path and other relevant variables accordingly. you clear it for every document info record.
(the reason for passing filepaths in a table is because you can have more than 1 file in 1 document info record)
and what is it otherwise that you couldn'get what you needed
here some old code from my import programm for passing the filenames to the function (jhe I know I have to use a workarea by now)

  • Sorting the view using the file path.

I would like to be able to sort my music library using the full file path (directory name) as this sorts it in the way I have setup my files.

Unfortunately you can only sort using columns that iTunes will display in the browser window; file path is not one of those.
If you have any programming experience you can use an external program to generate a playlist sorted by path, but you still won't be able to display the path in the iTunes window. That is, unless your external program also does something like put the path in the comment field. I guess if the program does that, you can display the comment field and sort using iTunes.
Here is the SDK for iTunes on Windows:
