Firefox 4.01. I wish to have "Mozila Firefox S tart Page" as Start Page. I have used "How to set the home page" (tools, options, general, restory to default) but no result.

# Numbered list item

The part you are probably missing is
When Firefox starts: "Start my Home page" (in the dropdown)
the installed default home page is about:home in Firefox 4, but simply choose the "Restore to Default",
then click on the "OK".
see How to set the home page | How to | Firefox Help
If that is not working then try instructions , and following the instructions suggest taking a picture of your toolbars first, so that you will be able to recustomize your toolbars afterwards, see Corrupt localstore.rdf - MozillaZine Knowledge Base
After resetting, continue with Toolbar customization - MozillaZine Knowledge Base and if you used small icons -- don't forget the checkmark for that in the dialog.

• Every time I go to a new site, I also get "How to set the home page: Firefox help. How do I stop this?

This is a Firefox help page that I didn't request, nor do I need.

You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.

Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).

• How to set multiple home pages, the option is gone (replaced my hard drive and had to reinstall firefox) This version seems to only offer tabs, not pages?

My old version of Firefox had the option for me to set multiple home pages. My hard drive recently failed and had to be replaced, so I had to install the newest version of Firefox. The only option I see when I go to tools, options, general is to set the one home page. (and maybe tabs) I would like to open several of the same pages every time I open my Firefox. Does anyone know how to get this back, or which version had this feature so I can downgrade to that particular version?
Also, I was wondering if there is a way to get the bookmarks I had on the old version back. I think they are lost forever, but if anyone knows, I would be thankful. I do still have the old hard drive, but the way it failed was actually when you tried to open any browser, the hard drive would go and blue screen, this is why the old hard drive had to be replaced. Thanks. :)

So you mean you want to open new windows with the same page when you open Firefox?
Set more than one website as your home page should help if you want to open multiple pages when you open Firefox.
As for recovering your bookmarks, you can try to plug that hard drive into a working computer, and then read Recovering important data from an old profile to copy your bookmarks from it. However, if it is failing you may not be able to do that.

• My home pages do not load as saved. When I close Firefox what ever is up in the tabs comes up again when I reopen Firefox. I know how to set it up in tools/options but it is not working properly....Bug???

This is not my first time using Firefox...It has always worked on previous versions. I have just downloaded 4.0. Is this a known bug with Firefox 4.0 ??

In case you use "Clear history when Firefox closes" or otherwise clear history:
*do not clear the Browsing History
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/remove-recent-browsing-search-and-download-history
Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, passwords, and other website specific data.

Hi ajag,
Sorry you are having problems, but probably some adware or malware.
Thanks for including System Information. I am not familiar with "Vonteera Free Ads" However it is apparently adware. Take care with advice followed from internet searches I would for instance NOT try the YAC site or tool.
Using the Firefox addons manager and the Windows Control Panel remove any obvious unwanted toolbars or programs. Then scan with multiple and fully up to date tools.
* General method: Remove a toolbar that has taken over your Firefox search or home page
Please follow the advice in the link immediately above and then do the full scans as mentioned lower down in this post.
I note you have a user.js file that may need attention separately.
Post back saying what you tried and what the results were.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

* MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one. Windows 8 has antivirus built-in already.

• Homepage (1 only) set as Google. Everytime I open Firefox, aside from the Google homepage, another tab opens to explain how to set a home page. How do I stop this nuisance?

The problem occurs on every opening of the Home Page, either on opening Firefox or opening a new tab with the home page. Link is: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How%20to%20set%20the%20home%20page
By the way, what is the getplusadobe16287 plug-in for?

Solved it. Turns out that when I set my homepage, I inadvertently set myself 2 home pages. By going into "Options", on the General tab, I simply deleted the second home page. Figure I'll work out what the plugin is as well.

• Firefox homepage changed. Lost Icons for Gmail, YouTube, etc that use to appear on the home page. How do I get them to appear back on the Firefox homepage?

A week ago, my Firefox homepage changed and I've lost the ability to have Gmail, YouTube, etc appear at the left top of the homepage. I tried to reset by going to settings and set the default but still can not figure out how to get Gmail, YouTube, etc to appear on the homepage.
Thank you,
Julia

Is your home page now https://www.google.com/ ?
If you are missing the traditional "black bar" at the top of the page, that has been replaced with an application button on the right side that looks like a grid of small squares. Some creative developers have posted add-ons to restore the old bar. I haven't tried these myself:
* Proper Menubar
* +You Google Bar - reviews indicate some problems

• "This website cannot be trusted" that is crazy. I was going through the Firefox "getting started" and click on a link to "Set your home page" and it seems to be telling me that I can not trust firefox. LOL. It is asking me to make an exception.

So I tried to go to my iGoogle page and it did the same thing. I am certain there is a button to fix this but i swear i do not know where it is?
The support article also took me to "untrusted information"

Sounds like you have a link hijacker installed which McAfee doesn't find for some strange reason. What I suggest you do is to go to Malwarebytes and download the free version of the program. Then after you install it, update it via the link (tab) you'll see at the top and finally run a complete system scan.
It's possible McAfee didn't ask you to disable Windows System Restore. That Microsoft utility which is part of the operating system makes backups of all executables including malware unfortunately.
To be sure, I'd advise you to disable it temporarily by right clicking My Computer, then go to Properties and click the System Restore tab. Then place a checkmark in the box which says "Disable System Restore on all drives" and then click Apply/OK. This will delete all your Restore points, but it's the only way to remove malware which Windows is inadvertently making backups of.
It would be advisable to do that before you run a scan.
Once the Malwarebytes scan terminates and has quarantined anything it finds, you can re-enable System Restore again by removing the checkmark.
Sorry it took so long to respond to your question by the way.

• In the home page why does Firefox say I haven't upgraded when I have. This has been going on for over three weeks, I am now on 9 and still it says I have not upgraded.

In the home page why does Firefox say I haven't upgraded when I have. So I upgrade again and still it says I haven't next time I log on. Today I upgraded to 9, it said congratulations on upgrading, I log off then log back on only to be told yet again I need to upgrade. What is going on?

You may see that message below the Google search box on www.google.com/firefox which is the old Firefox default home page. It appears that page is no longer being maintained. You appear to have Firefox 8.0.1 installed which is the latest version.

How can I set home page for a new tab? how can i get firefox to open the home page every time i open a new tab in Windows vista home basic??
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened

Firefox can have multiple home pages if you wish. Each home page that will open when starting Firefox is separated by the "|" character.
See: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How+to+set+the+home+page
To have new tabs open a specific web site, add one of the following extensions:

• My recent emails used to show on my home page, "my msn". With Firefox 4, they disappeared and I can't see how to get them back.

On my home page there is a heading-Hotmail. Under that the last 8 or so emails were listed. The heading remains, the emails are gone and the+ in a box is now a -. So I can't add the emails.
Firefox 4 has made things faster, but it's taken away stuff too

Hi krjc,
You should take a look at the Knowledge Base article How to set the home page. Your homepage might have been changed by a particular site. Sites like MSN, Yahoo, etc have been know to ask to become your homepage.
There are steps in that article to reset your homepage preferences to default. I would try that first to clear out any strangeness. If that works, you can try setting your homepage again to your personal preference.
If that doesn't work you should look at the article Preferences are not saved.
Finally, your issue may be because you've been hit with some Malware.
Hopefully this helps!

• Each time I open Firefox, a previously visted website is open at the left side behind the home page, so the my home page is only partly filling the screen.

The "Sam's Club" website with my user ID and "remember me" box checked is the one that opens behind my homepage. This happens every time I open Firefox, but did not happen before I set up the Sam's Club sign in page.

Could you check whether you have dual homepages?
orange Firefox button or classic Tools menu > Options > General
If you see more than one URL in the Home Page box, delete the extra one and the vertical bar that separates them.
More info: How to set the home page | How to | Firefox Help.
Any luck?
Edit: if the page appears in the sidebar, which also can be used to display bookmarks (Ctrl+b) or history (Ctrl+h), then it probably is caused by something other than your home page setting.
