How do I set Firefox to open new windows in my second monitor?

When opening a new window (by right clicking a link and selecting Open in New Window), I would like the window to be opened in my second monitor. Firefox used to do this, but randomly stopped. Now when I open a new window it is opened in my primary monitor. It does not open maximized (just short of being completely maximized). I have tried the fix I used before- moving the un-maximized browser to the second window, closing and re-opening the window. I have also tried moving the un-maximized browser, maximizing, closing and re-opening. Does anyone know how I can restore Firefox to open my new window in the second monitor?

Click the orange Firefox button, and click "Options". This will bring up a new window with a "Tabs" tab at the top. Click that. There will be several checked boxes, including one called "Open new windows in a new tab instead" up at the top of the list. Uncheck that box and you should be good to go.
ETA: This should also work if you click "Tools" and "Options" within your version.

T410s Problem when disconnecting from second monitor

I don't know if this is a Windows 7 problem or something I've set up wrong. I've been searching the web for about an hour now and haven't found the answer. My apologies if it's either very basic knowledge or something that's been answered before.
I have a docking station and two monitors at work. If I have a window open on the right (secondary) monitor and disconnnect my laptop to go to a meeting and I haven't dragged that window back to the left (primary) monitor, when I open the lid at the meeting, I can't raise that window.
This often happens to me with Firefox, whether I had quit Firefox or still had it running, so I thought it was a Firefox problem, but yesterday it happened to another application. I found that other people are having that problem, too.
Is there a way to prevent this? If not, what do you do when you open your laptop and find that the application is starting in a monitor that isn't there?

Welcome to the forum!
A workaround would be to use the Alt+Tab to bring the application in front of the others and then use the Windows+Up Arrow to maximize the window, or Shift+Windows+Left/Right Arrow to move it to the left or right monitor, depending on the relative previous position of the external monitor.
You can find a list of useful win 7 keyboard shortcuts here. I don't think you're doing something wrong, this behavior is a Windows "feature".

Airport doesn't work when using a second monitor

My macbook pro, purchased mid-June, is exhibiting an odd problem. When nothing is plugged into the mini-displayport, everything is fine. If I plug my external monitor in, and the display is being mirrored, whether the lid is open or not, once again, everything works perfectly. Once I switch into extended display mode however, my wireless connection drops after a few minutes and refuses to reconnect.
It is definitely not a signal issue. The second I unplug the monitor, my wireless connection returns to normal even if I don't move the computer an inch.

I have the exact same issue: whenever I am using my external display, my wireless connection with airport immediately stops. Same June 2009 macbook pro for me as well.
If I go down to the lowest resolution (640x480), I can get it to connect. The moment I unplug the external display, the wireless connection with airport is re-established.
This problem has been reported on the apple discussions forums by a few people. Someone mentioned that it could be electrical cross-talk between the graphics card and wireless card internally, one causing noise for the other.
Anyone have a solution? Or have the same problem?

W520 webcam video doesnt "render" when have a second monitor plugged in.

Hi, when using the W520 on its own, i can use the webcam for skype no problem.
However, usually, I have a dell monitor plugged in, and only have the desktop on that. When I try and make a video call, the green light comes on on the webcam, as per normal, but skype says: "can't start video renderer. Check you've got a valid DirectX installation" which is different from cant find camera. Its like there is a problem with the graphics drivers.
The monitor in question is a dell 30" beast. I have no idea how to tell if its using the HD 3000 or the Quadra 2000N graphics card for the whole screen or for various applications on the screen, but it should not matter - both should support video display.

According to google, there are quite a few similar cases. Iterestingly, about half of them seem to be with the new series of Lenovos, especially the X220. So either Lenovo have half the market share, or they are more prone to this issue than other machines. According to the rather lame Lenovo update checker, there are no available updates for drivers for my machine.

There are ways of knowing if you're out of ports or not, but kicking an alert/email from ICM/CVP to an SMTP server requires custom development.
The quick fix here is to purchase more licenses

Fred, It looks to me like you have to see the toolbar to correct what you are suggesting....I cannot see the tool bar.
Or did I miss something?

When i double-click the mozilla icon, it doesn't start. In the task manager i noted that the process "firefox.exe" appears and desappear after 5 seconds. The problem remains in mozilla safe-mode, but not in windows safe-mode. Thks!

LIke many others, I had the same problem with v.26. I had a whole slew of URL shortcuts that the icons went to blank white squares. Here is what I did to fix: First I put them all in a folder to make sure there weren't any left on the desktop.
Next, I opened that folder, went to the first shortcut and double clicked it to open the web page. When it opened, I used the mouse to drag the URL onto the desktop creating a new shortcut. Again the white square icon resulted.
So I right clicked the shortcut, clicked on "Properties" and under the "Web Document" tab, clicked "Change Icon". A new pop-up window opens that attempts to find a new icon in the windows shell files.
I instead clicked "Browse" and inserted the directory path to the Firefox program file:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
SIX icons were shown, the top left being the familiar white square with the Firefox logo, which I selected, then clicked my way back out on the "OK" buttons.
NOW, I opened each URL link in the folder, and once opened in a new browser window, dragged the URL's to the desktop and NOW Firefox assigned each one the new correct icon automatically. Once done with all the shortcuts, I deleted the old ones from the folder and the folder itself. End of problem. Now when I save new shortcuts by dragging URL's to the desktop it saves them correctly.

Bookmarks - Hate the firefox version. Double click on the site to bookmark and the book it too small. And when in the bookmark window on the right side of the screen there is no way to know which folder you are actually in. Help.

I have an second issue as well: When I hook off all-day it comes up with an 8 hour event!
And then if I put in a late start hour it pushes end time to next day due to the 8 hour event suggestion.
All in all this gives a lot of changes just to enter an event.

Firefox 4 stops opening new windows after browser window dragged to second display. It's weird. Behavior is fine until I drag any browser window to the attached second display, and after this point it stops opening new windows but will still open new tabs in the same window. Restart fixes it until I drag the window back to the second display.
"Show all bookmarks" stops working too--won't open a new window.
This is after clean reinstall with total deletion of any Firefox/Mozilla folders and the previously installed app and a restart of the computer.

How do I keep FCP from auto-distorting my video when I drag it into the timeline?

FCP keeps auto distorting my video when I drag it into the timeline. It keeps setting the motion aspect ratio to -12.5, then when I set it to 0 and render, the video has lost significant quality even though I have my motion render settings to: best. I figure it is this motion distort which is ruining my quality on render because the avi from the camera is ridiculously clean and un-pixelated. How do I keep FCP from auto-distorting my video? It makes no sense that it does, because at -12.5 aspect ratio, FCP is creating a letterbox for my video. I just want the video to fill the entire canvas that I chose! There must be a setting somewhere that I have missed, but I cannot figure it out for the life of me. Please help!
I have a video shot on my Pentax K-r that is 1280x 720p 25fps. When run it in quicktime pro, the inspector affirms this sizing. And in QTpro there is no letterbox present when the original is played.
In FCP I have the sequence settings at:
HDTV 720p (16:9) (which is 1280 720)
Timebase: 25
I have tried to turn anamorphic on, then off in the clip format settings, and also turn the anamorphic on and off in the sequence settings. No combination seems to correct the problem.

1) In the bottom left corner of FCPX, click the film reel so that you can see all your projects:
2) Select the project you are having problems with and then in the inspector window, click on the spanner icon in the lower right side:

when dragging an image to desktop firefox not save to .JPG, .GIF or .PNG but creates a .txt file :-/
No probleme with other browsers !

Please see the application stored options on your Firefox menu bar to see if there is a preference stored that saves this. I was unable to reproduce this.

Color distortion when dragging to new page

I have a book template that I am using to make albums. For the first time in photoshop, I am experiencing color changing when I drag my original picture onto the template. I have checked and made sure that the color settings were the same and they are both set to RGB/8. My original picture (from my camerea, then tweaked in photoshop) is bright and vibrant. When I drag my picture to the template it becomes dull with a green/grey tint over the picture. Weird thing is, if I create a new document and paste the template into it and then drag my pictures, the pictures look fine. The template is still dull though. There has to be something in the temaplte itself that I am missing. Can anyone help, please!!!

I tend to disagree. Sounds very much like there is a color profile attached to the template that in no way matches your current color information. Most commonly this happens, when you assign your monitor profile as the document profile instead of just using it for proof preview...
