Firefox hangs the second i open it

Firefox hangs the second i open the window. I can't get to file or any other part to disable the add ons Would like to be able to fix it so i can get back to my web pages. The computer that is haveing the problem is running windows Vista home

When I start Firefox 4 two tabs open one is my homepage and the other is "google toolbar updated", how can i stop the second tab opening?

Firefox hangs when it is opened and is unusable unless a new window is opened

Since installing Firefox 4 I have noticed this recurring problem, I open Firefox then 10 seconds later the program hangs allowing no interaction with the tabs in the window nor allowing access to anything beyond the first 'Firefox' drop down menu. I have to open a new window quickly in this small time frame in order to keep using the browser.
Is there some way to stop it hanging so I can use the window that opens when I first boot Firefox? I have had this problem on two different computers using two different operating systems (on old Windows Vista laptop and a new Macbook pro) so I know it is not a problem with my computer.
The strangest thing is that Firefox doesn't come up with an error message or anything, it just hangs without precedent. I have only had this problem since 'upgrading' to 4.

Firefox hangs when trying to open youtube videos

hi,
everytime I access youtube, and after starting to play a video, firefox hangs and ans stop working and I need to open task manager to close the process.
I tried also with internet explorer and I happens the same but I get a script error, but with firefox no errors displayed, just hangs in the very beginning of any youtube video playing.
please, any help will be great.
this started 2 days ago, before was just normal.
I have the last firefox version, plus I run all virus scans and malware scans and nothing.
I have the last java and flash updates but still the same :(

Please try disabling the hardware acceleration of Adobe Flash, if it is enabled. Right-click on a video, click the icon on the bottom left and uncheck '''Enable hardware acceleration'''.

This is all very confusing and frustrating. You recommended that I install the latest updates for:
1. Shockwave Flash security (but do not tell me the number for the latest update)
2. Java Plug-In version 1.6.0_07
3. Flash version 10.0
However, you do not tell me how install these. I also woke up early so I could access your Chat service from 6:00 - 7:00 am Pacific time but it is not available. I have also not been able to find a contact phone number to get my problem resolved. I regularly purchase on ebay and have had this problem for all 3 purchases I made in the last week. This is so frustrating. I said in my original message that I do NOT want to supposedly "update" my OS to 10.5 or more. I have seen those versions and DON'T like them. They louse up iMovie & are more cumbersome. I am not interested in layers of networking, games, and being tangled up with an insecure "cloud." The iTunes set up is already obnoxious enough, when you try to manage, organize & back up your music.
I do not like how the computer/phone/etc. high tech world take away our choices, forcing us to up grade to stuff we don't want, frequently at a higher cost.
I am not the only one who wants to stick with the better Mac OS system. If this answer is actually from Firefox, then I am disappointed in FireFox. I really appreciated the security of using Firefox to connect to the internet.

On my new computer, I can no longer open attachmnets in Hotmail when using Firefox. The attachments will open with other browsers. It is quite frustrating. Any help out there would be surely appreciated. Cheers

Hotmail won't open attachments when using Firefox. I'm not sure if this relates to cookies, add ons (I recently addded Ad-blocker and Do not track), or some other type of security setting. I have tried some proposed solutions on the we to no avail. Using Windows 7

Thanks for your suggestion. My problem occurs when trying to open any type of file (at least .doc and .pdf, as far as I know). As I mentioned, when I log into hotmail from another browser, I am then able to open my attachments. I am hoping to figure out how to tinker with firefox so I no longer have this issue. I am not sure what is causing this block, but I know it has to do with Firefox (or settings relating to) or related add ons.

How can I make Firefox respect the option to open new tabs in the background? Since 3.x and continuing to Nightly it insists on focusing them immediately?!

Firefox 2.x would open new tabs in the background, but ever since 3.0 it seems to completely ignore this setting.

They only focus for me on the first creation and not when they refresh.

All email addresses appear in the mail application on one page. When I open my email and click on a message it often goes to the other user screen and cuts off the top of my screen which shows the bar for Chrome, file, edit, view, history etc....Still functional but very annoying. How do I choose a user screen and stop having it switch back and forth.

No time for details before this of crap crashes again. Where is location bar? Screen shot isn't for a mac. I've lost this about 10 times in 20 minutes.

Not sure if this is exactly the same as the other reported problems.
But creating a new (via command N or via menu selection) window creates a long thin nearly zero width but full height window. Selecting the window via the window menu and zooming brings it up at full size.
I tried turning off all add-ons and things seemed to work but then stopped working again (sorry can't find a consistent set of symptoms here).
