Firefox keeps redrawing images

I have spotted a performance issue which seemed awfully odd at the beginning.
On this page at least :
http://designshack.net/articles/graphics/design-a-rockin-band-website
The page was obviously idle, the blinking ads were disabled with AdBlock. However, the CPU usage remains constant and high (22-35% with xorg-ati drivers, 45-56% CPU with amd proprietary drivers, Radeon 7290 and AMD C70), and is worse when there are images in the viewport.
Enabling the repainted areas highlight showed me that every image in the page was constantly redrawn (the full area). I found out that the DOM elements have a .gif background-image (a typical AJAX spinner set with CSS).
That is, even if I can't see the animation, Firefox keeps redrawing the entire container and hogs CPU. I don't know what Chrome does, but it correctly considers the area as not to be repainted, and saves CPU.
Obviously visiting about:config and setting animation_mode to none sort of fixes the problem. But it's not a real solution. Have I missed something ? Does everyone have the same problem ?

Tested in safe mode (had to reset the animation_mode setting too), and the images in the article content (those with background-image set to a .gif) are constantly repainted again.
This behaviour has been consistently reproduced on Ubuntu 13.04 and 13.10, on four computers (with AMD, Intel and NVidia chips)

  • Keep rotate image on the top left of my panel.

    Hi,
Does anyone know how to rotate an image but keep the image to the left upper corner of the panel? I am using affineTransform to perform rotation.
    Thanks.

What's the problem exactly, does the image move from it's location? Does it not redraw properly? Please be more specific.
    Cheers.

    Hello Deb,
Something fishy going on with those particular files. But without looking at them directly I couldn't say what. Usually in a case like this the problem is some of the metadata that is attached to the file. Where did these files come from? A camera, a scanner, the internet?
An explanation about the Watched Folder function: It looks for changes to a folder, not just automatically grabbing whatever files are in it. Generally, you want to select an empty folder as a Watch Folder. Once this has been set up, as you add files to this folder they will be imported into the Organizer. If you start with a folder full of images, those will be ignored, any new items will be added.

  • Firefox keeps automatically blocking specific previously removed cookie

Firefox keeps blocking a certain website's cookies, even when I make it an allowed exception. If I wait a few seconds Firefox just changes the status to blocked. I thought it might have something to do with Network.cookie.blockFutureCookies but creating and setting this parameter to false has done nothing. How do I keep Firefox from blocking cookies automatically?
I have everything set to accept all cookies and no cookie add-ons, I really have no idea why Firefox doesn't like this cookie. :(

  • Firefox keeps crashing and closing after I've used HP Photosmart software

As title. I'm using Firefox 35.0.1 but the last few versions of FF have done this too.
After I've done any scanning with HP Photosmart scanning software Firefox keeps closing with a send-error-report box if I switch to a different tab or scroll up or down with the mousewheel. It does this almost immediately every time I restart FF and the problem is only solved by rebooting my laptop.
I updated all my drivers including nVidia drivers about ten days ago but it hasn't made a difference and tbh it doesn't seem like a graphics error to me anyway. This problem has gone on for several versions of FF now and I don't really have time to reboot my laptop every time I use my printer :( Maybe it is down to the HP software, but Chrome, Opera and IE don't have this issue, only FF, and using other browsers only serves to remind me how much I really prefer FF over all the others LOL x

  • I've completed the new security download routine 3 times, and Firefox keeps telling me I need to download again.

I've downloaded the new security patch 3 times in the last couple of weeks, put it in my applications and from there onto the dashboard, and Firefox keeps telling me that I need to download it again. This is crazy... Firefox can't recognize it's own application???

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop
    *Firefox 15.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
*Trash the current Firefox application (e.g. open the Applications folder in the Finder and drag the Firefox application to the Trash) to do a clean (re-)install
*Install the new version that you have downloaded
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Installing+Firefox+on+Mac

  • Firefox shows blurry images (and none of the best-known solutions work)

    No matter
    * if I run Firefox under safe mode (plugins disabled),
    * if I update my graphics drivers,
    * or if I disable Harware Rendering under Advanced Options,
    Firefox keeps showing blurry images.
Here is a comparison screenshot between Firefox (left) and Opera (right) rendering the same image:
    http://imgur.com/7GksG7Z
This has been happening for a long time, even through several Firefox updates. None of the solutions I've found on the web (listed above) will fix this problem.
The image blur is tiring on the eyes, not being able to see images correctly is so annoying, and I hope someone can help me fix this issue.

Changing Firefox's zoom behavior so you can enlarge just the text but not the images can lead to site layouts breaking. If you want to take a look:
View menu > Zoom > ''check'' Zoom Text Only
(If you do not normally display the classic menu bar, tap the Alt key to display it temporarily.)
Firefox 22 was the first to tie your Firefox content zoom level to your Windows DPI setting. You can break the connection and set Firefox to use 100% resolution (the classic 96dpi resolution) if you like. Here's how:
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''pix''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click '''layout.css.devPixelsPerPx''' and change its value to '''1.0''' for Firefox 21-sized fonts.
This will return the content to normal, but the toolbars may appear a bit smaller than your Windows standard for UI (100%/105%). There is an extension to enlarge fonts in that area: [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/theme-font-size-changer/ Theme Font & Size Changer].
Can you get it to work the way you want?

  • Firefox keeps freezing with new tab even in safe mode

Firefox keeps freezing, so there's no chance of even a crash report, I can only get out via TaskManager/End process. I usually have dict and thesaurus open while writing, usually with second tab my browser is a still.
It's very annoying as it's also stuck on my screen for a while so I can't continue to work.
I really need that to work or I have to switch to a different browser!
    Thank you.

  • When I want to mail a web-page or link firefox keeps opening new windows and cannot be stopped.

My laptop is a Samsung R730 (quite happy with it). I use Eudora for e-mailing. If I want to mail a web-page or link and click under 'file'to send it, Firefox starts opening new tabs without stopping up to over a hundred. I have to brutally switch off my lap-top, start agaiu. Restart Firefox which wants to open all the old tabs, click it off quickly. After that I can reopen to normal.

You get that problem if you select the Firefox program to handle a file if you get an "open with" dialog.

  • Had a website that my developers did some work on and made corrections . Firefox keeps bringing up this website.

Hello: I have a hosting reseller website at http://www.canyonsprings.ca that works great in chrome, explorer, but display a error on the front page, when I use firefox.
This error was corrected by the developers of the template. Why does firefox keep bringing up the wrong site.
I have uninstalled firefox completely off my computer, followed the troubleshooting steps I found on the forums and this not correct the problem.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

  • Firefox keeps asking to install Flash. When I attempt this, I get an error message stating it failed. Flash works in Google Chrome, but not FF.

I don't know what happened but Firefox keeps asking me to install Flash. When I attempt to install the program, I get an error message that it has failed. There is no other information given and I'm just left hanging. I've tried this over twenty times with the same results. I've even uninstalled and re-installed Firefox, but this continues. I'm unable to watch any YouTube videos. I then installed Google Chrome and all is working fine. I can't stand the Google company though and really with I could continue using Firefox. Why is GC working for me any FF not? How can I fix this?

Google Chrome comes with its own Flash plugin, so doesn't require to install Flash separately.
You can find the latest Flash player versions for Firefox on this page.
You may have to run the Flash installer as Administrator (right-click: Run as Administrator) and make sure that Firefox and possibly other browsers are closed.
