Firefox no longer cooperaties with trickle

Trickle is an application that lets a user limit the bandwidth of a process or processes. An example, limiting the download rate of wget:
[Code:]
trickle -d 600 wget http://mystuff.com/myfile
This will download "myfile" from "mystuff.com" at a maximum rate of 600KB/s.
Now, all of a sudden (I'm not sure what caused this), I can no longer use trickle with Firefox.
[Code:]
trickle -d 600 firefox
[Quote:]
fermulator@fermmy:~$ trickle -d 600 firefox
trickle: Could not reach trickled, working independently: No such file or directory
It just sits there, and never opens. How can I debug this? I've tried uninstalling and re-installing trickle, but that didn't help.
Versions:
* Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty (original) ... 10.04 (current)
* trickle 1.07-5 (original) ... 1.07-9 (current)
* Firefox 3.6.3 (original) ... 3.6.8 (current)

That is true if you are running Firefox 15.(x).  It was recently announced.  You will have to download Firefox 16.0.2.
If your Mac is intel based, this version will run on 10.5 or later.   Best to update your 10.5 far as you can, 10.5.8 ideally.

  • Firefox no longer working with Mac OSX 10.4.11

i'm using Mac OSX 10.4.11 and Firefox 3.6.12. As i understand it any of ur upgrades no longer work with this computer system. ( I tried to upgrade last week and ur site said upgrades no available gfor my platform version. Last week every time i conducted a search (default Google) i was redirected to http://search.creativecommons.org/?q=crossword+puzzles&sourceid=Mozilla-search.what gives? Have I been hijacked? also sites that I use daily are clipped and entire pages are smaller than usual . see www.shockwave.com
If u are no longer supporting Mac users, please let us know in advance or at least post it on ur site. Can no longer use Firefox...

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Cmd+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
(You also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
    Firefox > Preferences > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now")
    (2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:
Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
If you open about:crashes, you should get links to online crash reports. You could post some of the crash IDs for review by volunteers here.
Given the timing, another issue might be some ads or media in the page. There are some add-ons to block such things...

  • Firefox no longer working with Multibox

http://www.liamsmart.co.uk/Downloads/multiBox/ used to work with Firefox. I last tested it successfully about September 2012, with whatever the current version of Firefox was.
I tested it tonight, with 21.0 and it was not working.
It works with current versions of IE and Opera.
I reinstalled Firefox version 20.0 and that does not work either.
I had Firefox version 12.0 on a laptop and it was working tonight.
I upgraded the laptop version to 21.0 and it no longer works.

  • Why is the latest version of firefox no longer compatable with my BOUGHT & PAID FOR anti-virus?

My brand new computer came from the factory with Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security as an Anti-Virus. When its free trial ran out I BOUGHT & PAID for it for a YEAR. I liked you guys & used you as my only browser. Today Firefox updated & my anti-virus is no longer compatible. No Anti-Virus, NO BROWSING ON FIREFOX!!!!

Are you sure you're not referring to an extension that is included with the ant-virus program? Anti-virus programs work on the system level, so it shouldn't matter what version of Firefox you are using. Sometimes AV programs come with bells and whistles, like adding menus, options, or toolbars to certain programs. If that's the case, don't worry; your anti-virus program is still working fine with Firefox.
If you go to '''Help > Troubleshooting Information''' then click '''Copy all to Clipboard''', open a reply to this post, and go to '''Edit > Paste''' to paste the info from your Troubleshooting Information page, we should be able to see if you have any extensions installed on Firefox by an anti-virus program.

  • Firefox no longer works with microsoft

when i click to open firefox it opens but when i put in an address it wont go there.the only thing that works is the bookmarks

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] article.

  • Firefox no longer works with Forums?

Yesterday (Thursday, March 23), my Firefox stopped working with Forums. Now get the following:
    404 Not Found
Resource /forums/usersettings!default.jspa not found on this server

    http://www.w3.org/Protocols/rfc2616/rfc2616-sec10.html#sec10.4.5
    Status 404 indicates that
    * You resolved the domain name
    * You contacted the server with a request for a document
    * It failed to find the requested document.
This is why it is possible for sites to provide custom "Not Found" pages.
The link given above is valid assuming the root was http://forums.oracle.com. Presumably some server process failed to serve up the expected generated page.

  • Why does Firefox no longer work with Slate or AIM?

    1. On Slate.com I allow all scripts to run; however, even though most links on the pages work, I can no longer view comments in articles -- the function to open the comments simply does not work.
    2. When I load the standalone desktop AIM program, until Firefox 37 I was able to click the mail icon and go directly to my AOL mail; this no longer works, but instead logs me out of AOL and I have to log in again.
I don't know if these are related, but both appeared when I allowed an upgrade to version 37.

I cannot upgrade my Mac to Mountain Lion, OS X 10.8 and cannot buy a new Mac so will upgrading from
OS X 10.5 to OS X 10.7 help with this issue?

If you are going tob e upgrading to 10.7 you should be able to just upgrade, and then install future updates of Firefox with no problem.

    Hi DoesFirefoxRespond,
Thank you for your questions. I understand that there is an issue with accessing some bank sites. If you have already disabled Firefox add ons and have still experienced the same issue, please try the following:
    # Open a Private Window and login to the bank site to see if it causes the same issue. It will not use active logins or previous history.

  • I mistakenly replaced Firefox 16.0.2 with 19 how do I get 16.0.2 back

My Mac operates on OS X and Firefox 19 is not compatible with OS X. Since 19 replaced 16 it has been removed from my applications file

    Hi blkjakf8
    1. Download your copy from : ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/16.0.2/mac/
    2. '''Trash''' your current Firefox 19 application to do a clean install.
    3. Install the version that you have downloaded.
Do not select to remove your personal data, your profile data is stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder], so you won't lose your bookmarks or other personal data.

Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data...
    and confirm. Test.
    3. If the above steps don't resolve the problem, please describe it in more detail.

  • Facebook and Slacker no longer working with Firefox. Still work with Explorer. Until a week ago problem did not exist.

I am for about one week not able to input information on Facebook. Also the Facebook page appears in a huge font. Regarding Slacker I do not see any available online radio stations. • Firefox is no longer compatible with certain sites (eg my digital banking) when I have previously had no problems.

Some websites which I have accessed without problems will no longer work with Firefox. My digital banking site says that I should have Firefox 2.0 (at least) & I have 3.6.8 installed. My Yahoo mail will not open in the new version - again it suggests Firefox 2.0 or above.
== URL of affected sites ==
    http://rbs.co.uk/personal/online-banking.ashx and www.uk.yahoo.com

Your UserAgent string in Firefox is messed up by another program that you installed, and your bank doesn't know which version of Firefox you are running. It sees it as ''Firefox 979802487603 ''.
type '''about:config''' in the URL bar and hit Enter
''If you see the warning, you can confirm that you want to access that page.''

  • Firefox is no longer compatible with a screen reader programs why?

Firefox 4.0 is no longer compatible with screen reader programs such as zoom text. I'm a visually impaired user and have never had problems until now. I want to revert back to 3.5 because now 4.0 is useless to me. If it isn't broken don't fix it. Mozilla just made things worse for me. Thanks a lot.

Your screen reader is no longer compatible because it's author has not updated it for FF4
    Credit Tony E
To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data. See https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+Firefox
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use
    your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of
installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.
For details of how to find your profile folder see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Profiles
