Firework effect....

I have a movieclip that is basically like a quick firework
burst that fades out. I'd like to use actionscript to continuously
randomly place instances of this movieclip at random locations on
the stage. I'd like to have a variable that can control the number
of "bursts" that are allowable on the stage at once...
...is this possible? Thanks!

Try this attachMovie line
_root.attachMovie("burst1_mc", "burst"+i,
_root.getNextHighestDepth(),{_x:xSpot,_y:ySpot});
That should fix the _level issue, while the x,y
initialization is "tighter." You know you're dealing with that
specific instance when you pass the values directly to attachMovie,
instead of referencing them through another variable.

Thanks for the reply. I dont get any error messages. However, when I test it at the end I see only the explosion part of the fireworks. I dont see it getting higher. I think it's because the movie clip on the main stage is "bang" which has the actionscript code for explosion.
Here is what I did:
1. I created the fireworks image, converted it to a symbol and gave the name "particle".
2. In Scene 1, clicked on the particle symbol and created another symbol named "bang"
3. Inside the symbol "bang" gave it an instance name " particle" and inserted this code in the first frame:

This is all I did. I think it has something to do with creating the bang symbol within particle symbol which I didnt do, because when i tried to do it I couldnt give it an instance name. Sorry if I'm confusing you, but I am a little.

Translucent transporter effect

Instead of transporter effect I wanted to have either fairy dust or fireworks effect happening inside an individual to show something magical happening within the person-
wanted to be able to use any you tube video and edit- any suggestions much appreciated

I agree with Mylenium, but on a very basic level, the effects you're talking about are all Particle effects. AE has several particle effects built in, including CC Particle World. But the Rolls Royce of particle engines for After Effects is a third party plugin called Trapcode Particular. There's a tutorial about a Transporter effect here.

SWF effect flying through a html page

I will try to explain clearly my question.
I have a swf effect 600 X 140 px size, with a letter effect

I would like the effect flying through all my html page as a
background image
I see more and more advertisments doing the effect now, and I
would like to use it, but my site is built with Dreamweaver and I
want to keep it in html because of the referencement.
How can I do ?

You can't use flash as background because you can't place
active content into HTML background
in general. Possible only if the entire page is made in
Flash, then simply place it on the bottom
layer of the movie.
The effect you describe it done with Layers which are quite
easy if you familiar with Dreamweaver.
Let me elaborate.
You can not get beyond flash to animate beyond the canvas
boundaries (the movie size defined in your
object embed tags). These are movies that are actually with
transparent background, using WMODE parameter
to achieve that, it makes them appear like they fly all over
the HTML document while they actually just
large movies with no background. Another way to do it, is to
use Wmode and animate the layer itself
rather then making a huge movie canvas to cover the space
WMODE however is known to cause problems, from crashing
browsers to disabling actions ,screwing up buttons
etc... So be aware of it, if suddenly some of the features
stop working, you know what's the reason behind
it. That's why it's commonly use for ads only, minimum user
interaction.

9-slice scaling problem on symbols

Hi there.
If I have a 9-slice scaling guide setup on a symbol, then
drag it onto the canvas.
I have an issue.
When the image is dragged onto the canvas, the bounding box
is too large, like it doesn't accurately represent the actual image
data of the symbol.
So say I had a rounded rectangle that was 100x20 (px), and I
added 9-slice scaling guides on it.
When I drag that symbol to the canvas, the symbols' bounding
box is no longer 100x20, but more like 150x40(px).
Anyone know why this may be happening?
I do have layer effects on the symbol in question.

Trying to find termplates with drop zones for FCP 6 Help please.

I'm on FCS 2 (FCP6) and I'm looking for some templates that I can use to create a short video montage. I wold like to have images moving slowly around the screen with 'firework' effects going off around them. I've seen this done with a template but that was done on FCP 7. This would take the rest of my life to do manually so the question is are the kinds of templates WITH DROP ZONES available for use in FCP6? I've searched around but can only find templates for fonts, transitions and so on. Any help much appreciated.

I've just realised that the template I was looking for in FC is actually available in Motion and I'd failed to install it, so I'm sorted. If there is a source of free templates I'd be thrilled to find them.

Animation - replaying an animation

Hey everyone,
I've written an application with an animation using the Timer object. In order to stop the animation I call the stop method of the Timer class. From what i've read this just pauses the timer. My problem is that if i display the animation once it displays well. However, if i try to run the animation again nothing happens. I'm running the animation from a different class and have tried instantiating the animation class again but it still doesn't start the animation again. Any ideas would be great.

How do I achieve this effect (Fireworks)?

Hey guys!
I'm brand new to the forum and a very "green" web designer. I'm hoping that someone wouldn't mind sharing their expertise with a newbie such as myself with what I fear is a very easy problem, haha.
In the following link there is a graphic in the upper-left corner that reads "Gateway Studios." The word "Gateway" is transparent so that it shows through the orange block and allows the background to come through:

I am interested in recreating this effect. What sort of process(es) would I need to perform to duplicate this outcome? The images is saved as a .png, so I'm wondering if I need to use Fireworks. I have CS4 and am eager to apply this effect to some of my graphics.
I know that there is likely an extremely easy solution to remedy this problem, however, as I stated before I am very new to all this. Any response would be greatly appreciated!

Marian, I actually already know how to make the canvas transparent and perhaps this is something I should have been more clear about in the OP. What I am actually going for is the effect where the word "Gateway" is allowing the background to show through the orange layer so that it looks like a cut-out...does this make sense? I know I'm probably not using the correct terminology, but it's the best way I know how to explain it.
I did go through some of the threads in the Fireworks forum but didn't find anything particularly useful.
I read the article you suggested as well and found it to be very helpful! I look forward to applying that technique once I get this image squared away! I just really want to get that cut-out effect going!

Rollover effects are lost when exported as Fireworks HTML

I created a simple graphic in Fireworks, which has a rollover
effect. The finished symbol was assigned a LINK, ALT and TARGET in
Fireworks, and exported as an .htm file. Every slice was selected
and saved in the IMAGES folder.
After I placed the htm file in Dreamweaver, I previewed it in
Safari and FireFox. It worked perfectly. After I uploaded it to the
Web Host, however, all effects were lost.

The effects are limited to the word "enter."

Hmm. It looks okay in Chrome, but I see it pulls apart in IE
7. That is probably due to inconsistencies in CSS rendering between
the different browsers. Using Fireworks won't help you with that.
You're going to have to modify the CSS to account for browser
differences if you want it to address those little spaces. The CSS
for the Spry accordion element is very simple and I don't see any
hacks to get around the box model differences that I know people
use. You might ask on the Dreamweaver forum, but it certainly isn't
anything that Fireworks is going to fix for you.
Also, there are some other maintenance issues I see in your
page. Your navigation images are directly using the Fireworks
naming scheme, such as jlwa_main_r2_c2_f2.jpg. When you export your
images from Fireworks, give them good, reasonable names so that you
can maintain the code. You have a row of unnecessary spacer gifs in
your header. You should pull your CSS out into a separate file,
rather than having it embedded into each and every file. That way,
you only need to edit it in one place to have it take effect
everywhere. Give your styles meaningful names, too, descriptive of
their purpose. You have style1, style4, style5. If you want to edit
them, you don't even know what they are without digging into the
HTML code.

uninstall (using the uninstallers), clean Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6 and then reinstall.

Clipping Mask Effects in Fireworks CS4?

Hello everyone,
I was initially trained on Adobe Illustrator, and over time
have gotten very pretty comfortable with it. Not too long ago I
started making mock ups in Illustrator, and would use the crop tool
to export particular pieces (buttons and banners) of my mock up
into Dreamweaver tables.
But I recently got CS4, and now I'm all screwed up!
Unlike CS3, CS4 Illustrator does not appear to have the crop
area function. I can no longer export select pieces of my artwork.
I recently found out that this 'crop area' feature exists in
Fireworks CS4, so lately I've been trying to learn fireworks.
The problem I have with fireworks though, is that there
doesn't seem to be a clipping mask feature. I did stumble upon
something called 'group as mask' under the modify menu. But I don't
understand it's function, as it works nothing at all like
Illustrators clipping mask.
Clipping mask is such a useful design feature, and I can't
bear the thought of doing without it.
I'm relatively new to graphic and web design, so here's to
hoping some experienced users can help me out with this!

I doubt you'll find many - if any - telling you the answer is
Photoshop
in this forum. ;-)
The term clipping mask isn't really part of the FW
vocabulary, but FW
works very well with vectors and that is pretty much what a
clipping
mask is - a path used to mask part of an image.
FW can mask objects using vectors or bitmaps. Here's some
instructions
to create a simple vector mask.
Open an image in FW.
Select the Rectangle tool from the Vector tool area of the
Tools panel.
Draw a rectangle.
position it where you want the mask to be.
Cut the rectangle (Ctrl+X or Command+X for Mac)
Select the image using the Pointer tool.
Go to Edit > Paste as Mask.
Your image is now masked by a vector. Both objects remain
editable.
There is much more you can do; this is just a simple example.

Losing roll over effects in dreamweaver after editing in fireworks

Designed web page with basic roll overs in Fireworks
and exported to Dreamweaver including slices and frames. If I edit
the page in Fireworks using the round trip editing button then
return to Dreamweaver, my roll overs don't work anymore. It is as
if the frames get seperated. Any advice?

Is your site properly defined in Dreamweaver? Do you have
notes turned on?
It's generally a good idea to make sure you are finished with
a design
before you import it onto your HTML page.

Imported Fireworks Nav Bar Animation Looping

I have imported a navigation bar I made in fireworks into dreamweaver and when I preview in browser it keeps looping. In fireworks I added a rollover effect so that when you rollover each bit of text, e.g. home, contact, games it goes bold, and when previewing it loops so they all keep going bold without my control. In Fireworks I made it using slices and several states, and so just when I rollover state one it changes to state 2 for example. Very simple, but it keeps looping, how can I stop this? Thanks. I have attached the png file for fireworks if you need to take a look.

You do not require the fireworks/javascript to achieve the effect you require for your links.
This effect can be made using simple css a:link, (visited, hover, active) statements, I would also recommend using css to style your page and not tables/image slices .
