Fireworks Splice & CSS

I'm getting myself up to date and learning how to layout
sites using CSS
position rather than tables, seems pretty straight forward.
However, the one
thing I have no yet get my head round is how to convert
fireworks splice to
CSS layout.
Some compositions require rather complex slices, and laying
it out using CSS
methods would seem rather difficult as opposed to nested
tables.
Anyone got any thoughts?

There are a few free ones out there but, for $3, how can you
go wrong.

  • Fireworks 8 CSS Popup Menus

    Hi,
in previous versions of Fireworks I was able to create
multiple popup menus and insert the menus into various table
    positions across a web page.
In the latest version of Fireworks (8) I have tried to do the
same using the CSS popup up menus but when previewing the page one
or both of the menus fail to work properly. In some cases the popup
menus appear onmouseover in the wrong place or other times the
menus simply don't function at all.
If I create a single CSS popup menu and insert into a page
there is not a conflict and it is viewable in various browsers.
Is there an adjustment that I can make to the code or the way
that I export to Dreamweaver 8 so that multiple popup menus (in
different tables) can function on the same page?
    Thanks,
    Boris

  • Relationship of Fireworks and CSS?

In using Fireworks to design web pages for a site can the common elements for text and layout be converted to a CSS external sheet in Fireworks?

Fireworks is a Web graphics - layout/design - prototyping application. It is not a code authoring application. (Dreamweaver, on the other hand, is a very good code authoring application.)
So, yes, you can export CSS from Fireworks, but it's very ugly and you will probably have to put in more time and effort figuring out which style is which, renaming styles reasonably, and sorting into an external sheet than you'd put in if you just wrote the external sheet from scratch in an application that is better suited to the task.

  • Fireworks cs5 & CSS export

hi, I recently watched the video with the new features of Fireworks CS6 and I liked that CSS code extraction that has (http://forums.adobe.com/community/fireworks/post!input.jspa?containerType=14&container=223 1). I'm currently having the CS5.5 (Fireworks CS5) collection on my computer, so I wonder whether its possible to add somehow this feature in this version I'm having too as an update or exchange.

Sadly, the functionality of the CSS3 Mobile Pack was recently disabled for CS5 users—so even if you'd been able to download it, it would no longer be working. (True, it was an Adobe Labs feature, but it was also being used to promote Fireworks CS5, which makes their decision to disable it a questionable move, in my opinion.)

  • Is it possible to design a website completely in Fireworks?

Just wondering if this is possible I used to be a engineering designer (& learned dozens of progams while in the field) & I'm trying to help my buddy with his new business building a website. I have no desire or need to learn code. Fireworks seems easy & I was wondering if it was possible to design a complete website in it?
I'm almost done with his site I exported it as html & images in Fw's CS5 the only problem I'm having is the layout is fixed. I clicked on the center button under the export options but it doesn't do anything?
I would also like the parts (header, nav buttons, images, & text boxes) to change as a proportion of the browser/screen size (I believe this is called flexible) but remain overall centered on all the pages.
Thanks for helping out the newbie, please let me know how I can return the favor it would be my pleasure.
    -Brandon

I am re-designing our company's Website using (in order) PhotoShop CS5, Flash (with f4v fullscreen capable video), Fireworks and Dreamweaver CS5. I have always admired the appearance of websites created by graphic artists as opposed to non-artistic "code heads".  It is of course important that the site does not contain code errors or an oddball configuration that will cause it to fall apart when viewed in browsers like, Wheezer Von Hacktule's Web Shredder etc.  I'm a video editor, and can't be bothered with the quantum properties of a pixel and edit from the pixel on up as some of the code heads do.  And their sites look like it.  Look at some of the sites regulars in the Dreamweaver forum have put together... sorry to be a critic.
Trust me, unless you are designing Websites for a bank or some top secret government project, the visual design method IS the most quick and straight forward. Yes CSS.
Without going into a lot of detail:
You start your design with PhotoShop, carefully name your layers (lowercase and use underscores) and put them in order.  Make sure to include "white space" between your graphic elements.  When you are happy with the appearance, open the PSD with Fireworks.  Using the shape tool in Fireworks, create your divs. Give them names like top_head and side_buttons etc. and keep the shape "divs" on the lower layers in Fireworks just above your background.  Run the shapes to the outside edge of your design BUT allow space of about 5 pixels between the divs, keeping them separate. Use the slice tool to tell Fireworks what your exported images are going to be.  Be sure to name them in the Fireworks layer pallette.  Be careful that nothing overlaps the div shape container and that no slice overlaps on to another.  You can better see this by zooming way in on your design.  BTW Fireworks optimizes images for the Web, much better than PhotoShop.  Optimize each image according to its type, photographic, use jpeg, clip art-like images use gif.
Don't "slice" text areas you want to remain HTML text as opposed to an image of text.  Fireworks will automatically create that area as text upon export.
Export from Fireworks as CSS and images.
Open your html page in Dreamweaver.  Some things will be out of alignment.  That is where knowledge of CSS comes in.  Do your refinements in Dreamweaver.  You may need to go back to Fireworks and make some changes, then re-export.
OK, so I created a rather complex design and I saved it as a template.  I uploaded the design to our server and checked it in Adobe Browserlab as well as the W3C Markup Validation page.  No alignment errors across many browsers and zero code errors at the W3C Markup Validation page.

  • Fireworks CS4 beta

  • Book Recommendations

I'm wondering if anyone has a recommendation on the best
book/books to buy for a Flex newbie. I have taken all the tutorial
stuff that came with the product, and have some familiarity with
Flash 8 and Actionscript 2. In particular I am trying to use OOD
and OOP as much as possible in my projects in Flash and want to
carry that forward to Flex. I am particularly confused about when
to use mxml and when to use Actionscript and how to incorporate
Actionscript classes that I write with the components I layout in
mxml using FlexBuilder. I am also confused about Flex components v.
custom classes and components written that way. Thanks in advance
    to anyone that can help.

The best training I have seen is at www. Lynda.com. For $25 a
month you can have unlimited access to ALL of their video
tutorials. I have learned so much in such a short time. I have a
huge collection of software books and have learned a lot through
them over the years, but never so quickly as I have with Lynda.com.
Currently they have two video collections for Flex 2:
    1. Flex 2 - Essential Training
    2. Flex 2 - Beyond The Basics
It is a total of 10.5 hours of video tutorials. They
currectly have over 17,300 tutorials done top-notch in 259
different topics. For instance if you want to learn ColdFusion they
have over 22 hours worth of training. I have learned Dreamweaver 8,
Flash 8, Fireworks 8, CSS, CSS2, XHTML, Photoshop CS2, Indesign
CS2, etc. They have 259 different topics. You can check out their
massive list yourself. Computer books are not cheap! I can easily
spend $50+ on a good computer book, but that's two whole months
worth of training at Lynda.com. I am in my second year subscription
and can testify that they are always adding new videos which are
part of your subscription when you subscribe.
Check it out you won't be disappointed!

  • Export for jquery mobile 1.2.0

Exporting my theme from Fireworks to a document using jquery mobile 1.2.0 (final) breaks several elements.  I also tried including the CDN for 1.2.0 while including my fireworks exported css after.  That was better, but elements were still rendering incorrectly.
Does there needs to be an update for the fireworks exported css to jive with 1.2.0?

Moving this discussion to the Dreamweaver extensions forum.

  • Stumped with lines

    http://prosol1.com/fireworks/temp201.html
hi - i put this together as a design template.  please only look at it in IE because there are some joining breaks in there in FF.
anyway - no links or buttons work - i'm just working on design and they also wanted to see the SWF in action too.
so when i cut the design up in PS4 then exported, i simply when into DW4, deleted the rectangle box with the SWF.  it worked EXCEPT for that thin vertical and horizontal lines that are underneath the SWF.  i can't figure out how to get rid of them.  they're not in the SWF file.
any ideas?  here is CSS if that will help too.
    http://prosol1.com/fireworks/temp02.css
    thanks - mike deaf guy

    hi gary,
that didn't work.  here it is posted:
    http://prosol1.com/fireworks/temp201.html
also, you may want to look at this page in FF and IE.  in FF, the split images where they join together at the top is more pronounced.  maybe that will help you figure out the problem?  i'm at wits end.  i could tell my co-workers that this is a temporary thing during the design process, but being deaf - and they hearing - the respect level of my work is practically nil [neither one of them have ever designed anything professionally in their lives, yet they've been getting up moving things around nilly willy without even asking for my design opinion].
    thanks - mike

  • Dreamweaver Error- code problem

Hello, I built a website for a salon and now I am working on SEO. I also added google analytics and now I am getting an error code in dreamweaver when I save the template. When I save the template it updates the pages but afterwords it gives me this error, “There is an error at line 11, column 29 (absolute position 1268) of “C:\Users\Meegan\Documents\Center Stage\ htmlindext.html” Unbalanced InstanceEndEditable tag.” I am not sure what it is telling me here. Here is the link to the site www.centerstagesalon.net. Underneith the title in the code, I put the keywords and description (fallowing a tutorials instructions).
This is what that code looks like:
Just before the end head tag, I put the code for google analytics.
    Here is that code.
I assume that the issue has more to do with the keywords and description that I put in the code because line 11 is just bellow that, but I wanted to provide you with as much information as I could so hopefully someone can help me get this resolved. I added keywords, a description and the google analytics code to each page. Bellow is the code for the index page as an example.
    Index Page Code:
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
    Meegan

ok the code wasnt there for some reason. Sorry about that. Here is the code for the index page.

  • Creating CSS text in Fireworks... or should I say not.

I am so frustrated with Fireworks. I have the latest update, and I am still having problems creating text and exporting as html/css. I've tried deleting elements I though might be causing issues, still no go. I get either no css styling, some styling or some variation in between. I've viewed a few tutorials online and it looks like it should be very easy.
I should state that I am importing a PSD & ILLIO file (tried playing around with both, and still nuttin. Do I need to recreate this fully in FW? Hope not. Will that even work?
I'm a college teacher and I hadn't planned on using Fireworks, but after opening the Overview DVD that came with the software it looked like a great solution for us designers that don't know much or anything about CSS/HTML, now I'm not so sure... and I need to have this ready for my class Wed! Thinking of abandoning FW entirely, which would be dissapointing, cause it seems like a great bridge between design and implementation.
Also when trying to export slices as PNG 24 I am still getting matting even though I have a transparent canvas and have deselected matting in the preview window. Seems really buggy.
Any GURUs that could take a look at my file to lend some help?
    Help appreciated!
    Matt

PNG 24 does not support transparency in Fireworks. For that you need to choose PNG 8 or PNG 32. Note that Fireworks is a bitmap and graphics editor with multi page prototyping capabilities.  Use it for creating mockups for clients, and images for for web pages. It's not a WYSIWYG HTML editor.  Use Dreamweaver to build the actual web pages.

  • Newsletter creation and CSS export in Adobe Fireworks

I am a new to adobe fireworks and am currently in the trial mode of my download.
I was advised that Adobe FIreworks CS6 is the ideal program to create graphics and text to build a newsletter for my company.
Not knowing much about the program, I was able to add graphics, text and hotspots on specific images and text with an html link for customers to be able to click to sign up for the newsletter via our website.
The million dollar question I have is how in the world do I export this document and paste it into the "body" of an email to send to 5k contacts?
I do not want an attachment, I want the body fo the email to be html or css coded, but I know nothing about either of the two or how to do it.
I did find one video that walked me thru the export css process, but none of my images were shown and 90% of the text was missing.
I believe I need to understand "layers" to get this to work properly but could really use some help!
I am dangerously close to missing out on advertising to all 5k contacts before the holiday. Please help!!
BTW - the reason for doing this instead of using standard mailchimp or constant contact is because I purchased my email list and those are forbidden in both constant contact and mailchimp hence why i need to create my own opt-in newsletter to get people to opt-in via my website.
    Thanks in Advance!!

Seriously, do not use Fireworks to generate the html for your webpage.  It is graphics program with *some* html capabilites, but I would never use it for a live site.  It is always best to create the layout in Fireworks, slice it up as for use as individual images, or uses 'pieces' for background images and write the markup (html + css) in Dreamweaver or a HTML editor of your choice.
This tutorial may help you make the transition.  Naturally it helps to have at least a basic knowledge of html and css before working with Dreamweaver, it will make using DW so much easier.

  • Exporting "CSS and images (.htm.)" from Fireworks CS4?

Is this an effective process for developing CSS based layouts? Are there any proven tricks to improve the quality of the resulting structure?

It's a starting point, but it does not exempt you from understanding
XHTML and CSS. Currently there are some limitations to what the script
will export: it ignores additional states, javascript behaviors and
won't export more than 1 page at a time. Keep in mind this is just the
"first kick" and we'll no doubt see this feature embellished.
I recommend that you download and read about the updated CSS and
Images export script, modified by Matt Stow. You can find the new
    script and his article here:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/fireworks/articles/standards_compliant_design.html
The article also provides some tips on how to best plan your designs
if you plan to use the script.
