Fix variable alphabetizing in debug pane

I have been trying to use Director 11 for months, but have
more or less given up because of one problem that is probably very
easy to fix: when debugging, it does not appear to be possible to
have the list of variables sorted alphabetically. this makes it
really hard to use. If Adobe wants more people to use Director,
which is a great program, they have to fix this. Another killing
problem for me is that when you use a custom icon for a projector,
it is not sized correctly, and looks terrible on the user's
desktop. We can't distribute applications like that, so it has to
get fixed!!

Can you tell me where in the system have you changed this setting. I searched in SPRO but there is nothing about the language. I am also facing similar situation. And if you have worked with PDF files in the broadcaster can you tell me how to change the PDF file names when I run the broadcaster for 6 to 7 variables(I mean VAR1,VAR2,...) The main folder where these PDF files get stored I can define but dont know how to change the PDF file names which fall into this folder.

Splitting of Cost into Fixed & Variable

Hi,
In our current scenario there is only one cost and there is no split between them. Now my customer wants the cost to be split between fixed & variable. At present we are using KP26 to plan the cost. Here my cost will hit only one cost element (say A) at present. Requirement is to split this cost into fixed and variable and send to two separate cost elements (say B & C) for the same activity type and afterwards do the setllement accordinlgy.
Can any one please guide me on how to achieve this.

Hi,
1.This can be achieved by creating two Activity types .eg AT1 for fixed, AT2 for the Variable.
2. Do not assign the default Activity type in the Work center (Costing Tab)
3. When you want to create the activity to capture the cost at fixed and variable level, create a single activity and assign two different activity elements e.g AT1 and AT1.
Now for these two activitiy elements assign the resepctive work center and the activity type as per the need.
4. This will capture the cost as requested by you.

Fixed & Variable cost of the Material at CK11N

Hello Experts,
Before posting this thread, i have gone through several threads about my query. Still I have a doubt.
Material Cost always should be Variable. Cost Component Structure OKTZ also the Inventory Valuation would be Variable Cost as per as Std SAP.
But where as the Raw Material Price control would be "S" & the Cost Component Structure of OKTZ having Inventory Valuation Fixed + Variable Cost then what would be the effect..?
I have run a SCE for a Material & both Material having standard price 140.6 & 1.09. Then how come the Fixed Value shows here as 10.37 & 0.9 & How can it be divided into Total & Fixed Value..?

Dear Raj,
Please check the following settings in OKTZ:
Materials are of 3 types:
Finished: Valuation (Fixed + Variable)
Semi Finished:Valuation (Fixed + Variable)
Raw Materials: Variable
Why Inventory Valuation (Fixed + Variable) for Finished Goods:
It contains material price as well as overheads.
Overheads may contain fixed portion also in addition to variable nature.
So Finished goods valuation should be (Fixed + Variable).
For Raw materials valuation should always variable:

Please check these settings and change the settings accordingly.

In case commercial enterprise, (not implementing Product costing sub-module), how to take care fixed and variable cost ?

Yes, I am clear what you mean now.
But My concern is mixed-cost (semi-fixed or semi-variable), how the system dealt with this?
For example:
salary of sales man: Cost element 627000
fixed salary: 500
If he sells more than 20 product a month, he will receive 10 for each addition one.
So 500 is fixed cost, and the bonus is variable.
This CE 627000 is called mixed cost element.
In many cases, the accountant can not know which part is fixed, which one is variable as my example.
So at the end of period, she will use some ways to calculate
And, another problem i care: except drawing statement , what more can SAP do about fixed & variable?

Alphabetized variables list in the debug pane

How come in Director 11 it is no longer possible to sort
variables listed in the debug window alphabetically. In previous
versions, you could click on the tab to have the globals and
properties sorted from a to z. This no longer works. It is really
difficult to visually scan a long list for a particular variable
name. Is this a bug, or is there some other way to do it?

Put a breakpoint in the listener function for the event,
because until, the event is dispatched, the variables do not exist.

Format of Variables Change When Debugging

When debugging in LabWindows, the format of the variables (decimal, hex, ASCII, etc.) is always set to the default under certain circumstances. For example if you step into a function, change format of a variable, step out then back in, the format has been reset to the default. There are other instances when you run, stop, rebuild and debug where this is done also.
I've asked NI to explain why the variable format can't be retained, at least within one debug session (until exiting LabWindows). The explanation is they use a stack-based system to store this information so it is lost during debug.
I find this to be an extreme annoyance and an enormous waste of time. For example, I deal with a lot of arrays of binary data. Seeing these array values in ASCII is of no value. So I'm nearly constantly setting the format back to hex during debugging.
I'm curious whether anyone else thinks this is a problem. NI knows about this, but it's unlikely they'll do anything unless there is a lot of feedback from us users on the value of fixing this. Post a note and let me (and NI) know what you think, whether you think this is important or not.

Yes, using Format >> Preferences is exactly what I was talking about when I said "change the format of a variable". Thanks for giving the exact details of doing this.
I'm still using v8.1. I'm leery of renewing my service contract because I don't feel NI is listening to me (as a customer, not just a LabWindows user) regarding the issues that affect my work and ways to greatly improve my productivity. I have been suggesting this for a few years now, to no avail, both with tech support on the phone and through your product suggestion center.
I can't explain all the intricacies of the issue. Maybe what you have to do is set breakpoints and run rather than step in and out. Here's what an engineer in NI's R&D center said:
It's not actually rebuilding the project that causes the information to be lost. It's actually even worse than that. As variables come in and out of scope, the formatting and the expand/collapse state of each variable is lost. So, if you've hit a breakpoint in a function and re-formatted a local variable, and then continue debugging outside the function, eventually stepping back into the function, the formatting for the original variable is reset when the item is created anew in the variable display, based on the data type of the variable.
The problem we have is that the formatting information is stored in stack-based memory which is associated with the actual items that you see in the variable display. As these items disappear and are re-created in the variable display, the formatting information is reset.
The complexity of representing variable scope information, including arbitrary block scopes, makes it pretty hard to maintain variable information in global, non-stack-based memory. It's obviously not impossible, but unfortunately it would require a fundamental redesign of our debugging paradigm.
Finally, we have heard this request from multiple customers, and I assure you that you are not the only customer who has asked for this feature. The problem with this feature, as with many other feature requests is one of trade-off. It is obviously impossible to accept all the feedback that we receive, and so we are constantly having to weigh development costs of a particular feature, the risks involved in implementing it, and how widespread its benefits are. So far, this feature has not made the cut. However, this does not mean that we're ignoring it, or any other customer feedback. Many customer-requested features have made it into previous releases, and we're confident that this will too, in the not too distant future. As a matter of fact, we can honestly say that most new features in a given CVI release originate with customer requests. I also just want to re-emphasize that each time you reiterate how important a given feature is, it drives up its priority and makes it more likely that we will implement it sooner, rather than later. With that in mind, we definitely welcome your suggestion to post a note about this request in the forum. We expect other people to second the request, and the more people that do that, the better.
So my question wasn't posted for NI to respond. It was to find out if anybody else using LabWindows finds this issue to be detrimental to productivity.

How to inspect a cursor variable in a debug session?

In a function inside the body of a package I do...
Example:

where the cursor variable c_SituacionesACTyHIST is declared in the specifications package (Is this the problem, because is a global declaration?).
When debugging I cannot inspect the value of V_SITUACIONESACTYHIST.ESTADO_SITUACION or whatever cursor variable field; I always obtain "NULL" as value...
Why?
How can I see the value of that variables?
I have the same problem in v2.1 and 1.5.5 version of sqldeveloper.

When you're debugging, it's looking at the first version...which is null because you haven't assigned anything to it. When you use a Cursor For-Loop like that, it implicitly declares the variable for you. You don't have to do it in your DECLARE section.

Fix variable text (File Name) when importing INDD into INDD

More of a fix request than a new feature:
Simply put, the variable text (File Name) shows the file extension when the document is imported into another INDD regardless of the variable text specifications in the originating document. This is unexpected and undesired.

Seconded. Currently, I don't use this variable in this way, but I can envisage future scenarios where it would be a problem.
And it seems a strange thing to miss out on ... (why would an INDD file behave different?)

User-defined variables in Search Results pane

I am working with user-defined variables for WebHelp output.
I have successfully added the variables to the topic, the displayed
topic title, the TOC, and the Index entries. The problems lies in
getting the search output to display the specified variable text.
For example, the base topic title is "Introduction to XX". I
use a variable to change the XX to YY throughout the project;
however, when I generate the output and then Search for YY, the
search results pane displays "Introduction to XX" even though the
displayed topic is titled, correctly, "Introduction to YY". I am
assuming, because the topic title is not adhering to the variables,
that the search results displays the metadata <title>.
What should I do so the search results title syncs with the
other data?

Welcome to the forum.
There have been two posts about this recently so do a search
for more information.
Basically the search results show the Topic Title as defined
in Topic Properties. Your variable is in the Topic Heading at the
top of the page. Not the same thing.
I suggest you request a feature change.

Unable to see local variable values when debugging java

Hi,
I am using JDev 10.1.2 with java version 1.4.2_04.
I have been using JDev to debug my java programs. But suddenly from this morning I am unable to see local variable values. I am able to see class and instance variables. This has happened to me before and I had restarted my machine couple of time, to get this sorted. But this time, nothing helps. Going thru the forum I found out that Include Debug information (Project Properties -> Compiler Option) need to be turned ON. It is already turned ON for me.
I would greatly appreciate if you could let me know how to crack this problem.

No. The local variables 'used' to show up during debugging. But erratically it doesn't show up local variable values. I had to restart my machine couple of times whenever this happens, inorder to see the local variable values. But this time even restarting doesn't help.
Is there any preference setup that need to be turned on/off to see local variables?
Also I can't step into a static method now. Any idea why this happens?

Fixed & variable width national character set

In its discussion of NCHAR and NVARHCAR2 datatypes, Oracle talks about fixed width and variable width database character sets. What are they?
I think the concept of fixed length (i.e. NCHAR) and variable length(i.e. NVARCHAR2) types is a different thing. That I understand.
From Oracle doc:
'If the national character set of the database is fixed width, such as JA16EUCFIXED, then you declare the NCHAR column size as the number of characters desired for the string length. If the national character set is variable width, such as JA16SJIS, you declare the column size in bytes.'

Fixed width charactersets are those in which each character is defined by a fixed number of bits, say 7 or 8 or 16
Variable width charactersets are those for which either 7 or 8 or 16 bits are used to save space. Let us say a character needs only 7 bits, then only 7 bits will be used in this case, and if another character needs 16 bits, they will be used.
In fixed width all characters have same number of bits, so it has higher space requirement.
These have nothing to do with char and varchar2 data types.....
