FLA file parsing:)

I draw a small movie in Flash MX. It small but it is not
simple (i use many difficult fills and many vectorial objects).
When i try to open my scene i receive this message:"There is not
enough memory to open this scene. Your document is not damaged and
may be safle saved.
To increase available memory, close open documents or quit
and use the Get Info command in the Finder to allocate more memory
to Flash"
<just in case: I have 2GB DDR memory on my PC>
so i cann't open my scene... Generally i need contain of only
one key frame - the first frame:) Does anybody know how can i get
it without opening my scene in Flash?

use a flash decompiler.

  • How in Flash CS4 to change text words of .fla file from a website template?

I have a website template in which I am trying to change the header text words and menu text words to customize the template. How do I do this in Flash CS4? Thanks!

There are any number of ways these text elements might have been designed into the file.  So you pretty much have to search for things.  If you do not see the text that you want to change when you open the fla file, then you may need to either make some layers visible that are not (eyeball icon next to layer name) or you may need to look into the actionscript code to see if the text is being dynamically written when the file opens.  If you happened to receive any .as, .txt, or .xml files with the template, the text elements may also be defined in those files.
Just so you know, and this is just an observation, it appears from experience in these forums that template designers tend to make templates so that you are more likely to hire them to update things than to be able to solve it yourself.

  • Can't open PC .fla file on Mac

I have searched archived messages and although there have
been posts about this, no one seemed to have any answers. So, I
thought I would ask again. Oh, and please don't laugh!
My company had a web site built back in 1998-1999. The
outside person they hired to do the site created a Flash animation.
I do not know what version was used or for sure what platform (PC
or Mac). I do have the .fla files as well as the .swf files to work
with, but when I try to open them I get this error message.
"This document contains embedded objects that were created
with Microsoft Windows version of Flash. These embedded objects
must be deleted before opening on a Macintosh."
I am trying to open the .fla files using an old Mac version
of Flash 4. (Yes, I said please don't laugh!) My company will not
allow the resources to buy an upgraded version. Can anyone tell me
why I am getting this message? How I can open these files? or
ANYTHING I can do? Thanks for the help.

i think your company's lack of resosurces allocated to
software updates has finally caught up with
    them :p
The only thing you can do is find flash 4 - install it on a
pc - open the FLA and well...come to
think of it - i have no idea what that error could mean - FLA
    files are cross-platform. Original
author must have embeeded windows video files or something -
i cant even remember what flash 4 did
or did not support. Flash 4 didnt have a dependant files
    feature (i dont think).
chances are the error is generic and the real issue is that
the file is old and possisbly corrupt. I
dont have flash 4 anymore but you could post the fla to see
if it can opened at all - on PC and/or
MAC - then try downloaded the 30-day trial of flash and
editing it - or search ebay for flash 6 or
even 7 at a cheap cost.

  • How can I convert a flash object on a webpage to a fla file?

I made a flash effect for my friend's site and he won't let me get the flash back after a fight. I can see the effect on the homepage of his website. Is there any way I can get the flash to an fla file on my computer? Is there any way I can find the swf file on his websites system and convert it to an fla? Please help, thanks.

Open the web page where this swf is placed then go for the source code by right clicking on page anywhere. Then find the name of the swf file like if the name is myFlash.swf then search it but if you do not know the name then just search .swf you will get the file path on your friend's web. like it would be yourFriendWeb.com/flash/flashFile.swf or what ever is the name. Then copy the link and paste on your web browser and when the swf is opened then save it by going to File menu.
Now you have the swf file on your PC. Now the task is to convert it to fla. This thing can be done by a flash decompiler like Flash Decompiler Trillix. Decompiling will end up with your orignal fla file.

    Hi,
How can I copy layers from one .fla file to another .fla file? Please do help.
    Thanks.

Select all the frames you want to copy, right click and select copy frames then select the file you want to paste them into and right click again and then paste frames.
The layers the frames are should come across with them.

  • (How can we) Import Flash Professional .FLA file format?

How can we import a Flash Professional .fla file format into Flash Catalyst? It would appear that we can't...at least not yet! I have added this as a feature request within the adobe labs site for Catalyst. Someone at Adobe suggested that I also explore the forums, so here we are. If you would also like to have this feature added, please let Adobe know by promoting the
    idea.
Our use case is this: we have a large Flash file with a library of over one thousand skins and assets that were built in Flash with Adobe's Flex Skins Templates. These stateful, graphical skins were used within a custom theme by several Flex 3 projects.
Now that we are looking to migrate to FlashBuilder 4, and start to use Spark components, we are trying to find a workflow that allows us to use Adobe tools and to reuse our existing vector artwork. Since we have such a large number of assets, we are exploring various approaches, including the use of JSFL. So far we haven't found a good way to migrate from Flash-built skins for Flex 3 to Catalyst-built skins for FlashBuilder 4.

    Hi Ajay,
    See attached V 7.0 example...
    Hope it helps,
    Nick

  • Getting Error in opening a fla file in flash 8

Hi I use flash 8 to edit my projects, recently I got a website related to music downloads and it was built in flash, now when I try to edit the fla file it opens up in flash 8 but I cannot see the library and when I edit it and make some changes in it it saves but it doesnt work like the original one.
any suggestion would be really helpful.
I think it has something to do with older/newer version of flash ?

If it's a flash cs3 fla, then you might have a lot of problem since cs3 has new features that flash8 cant take care of.

  • How to find variables in an fla file?

    Hello all,
I purchased a flash web template that is very complex, and
have been learning flash more earnestly from it. I only know how to
find actionscripts by clicking on frames in symbols with an "a" One
    such frame makes refences to _root.READ = 1 (another 2, 3, etc).
Unfortunately I cannot find what "READ" is. Can someone help me
with how is "best" to find variable declarations in a complex fla
file with no familiarity with its creation?
The specific coade I am looking at references a pop-up
    window:
    on (release) {
    _root.popup_pressed = 1;
    _root.scrHEIGHT = 555;
    _root.scroller.scroller.gotoAndStop(2);
    _root.TM_title = "Advertising and Marketing";
    _root.READ = 1;
    _root.scroller.gotoAndPlay("s1");
    All the best!
    Michael

Thank you. I am also not savvy with flash (yet), and after I
posted this I noticed an unexpanded list in the action pane which
shows variables (left bottom corner). This alone was a big help. I
also discovered the "Movie Explorer" and typing "READ" into that
only gives me "Scene1" (the top level clip).
I wanted to ask a follow-up question to your posting. I
thought that only frames marked with "a" had actionscript code in
them, but from your reply it seems that variables can be declared
in ANY frame? So, to find the variable "READ" I need to click on
    each frame to find it?
    Best regards,
    Michael

  • Bizarre error when trying to open .fla files in Windows Explorer

"Windows cannot find '(path of the .fla file INCLUDING the filename)'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search." error message given when I click on any .fla file in Windows Explorer to open it in Flash 8 Pro (as I've ALWAYS done before). Flash opens but no file is opened in it. If I click the fla file a second time THEN it opens in Flash (which is already opened from the first attempt.). This never happened before. I have 2 more laptops that work fine (as did THIS Win XP-SP3 pc until about a week ago), ALL with Flash 8 Pro (1 laptop w/XP-SP3 - just like the main PC with the new 'problem'), 1 laptop w/Vista Ultimate SP2. Even compared registry entries from XP laptop side-by-side - no differences at all. Everything is literally 'word-for-word'. Also compared FileMap.xml - no differences. Reinstalled Flash (no success) then out of frustration reinstalled XP with full disk format (and then everything else all over again - took 3 days) - still no success. Files open from the Flash 'File\Open' menu no problem - just not from Windows Explorer anymore. Nothing is different than before (when everything was ok - same installed programs, apps, updates, exact same 'set-up' as far as Windows drivers, system settings, prefs etc goes. VERY bizarre!

As you know Flash 8 was a Macromedia product. They don't exist anymore - being absorbed by the all powerful, all seeing, all knowing Adobe Systems (sort of reminds me of the BORG on Star Trek - you know 'Resistance is futile').
I tried literally everything - to no avail. Since I did try everything - up to and including a complete HDD full format and OS reinstall (which only accomplished deleting several days of my life that I'll never get back) I have come to the conclusion that it must be something inherent in the program that only affects installations performed after 12/31/12.
My 2 laptops have no issues because the program has been on them for years and has never been reinstalled, but I would be willing to bet if I had to reinstall it on them I would start getting the same problem (since it's now past 12/31/12).
On 12/31/12 Adobe did something in a way 'similar' to CS2 owners by rendering the activation of CS2 products inoperative. I found this out the hard way after I had just reinstalled everything while trying to deal with this issue. I had to spend hours on the phone to finally get the news from 'Dave' in Indonesia that Adobe decided to just arbitrarily render their CS2 customers paid-for software obsolete and inoperative! (Out of fairness they DID provide 'replacement' apps that don't require activation - thus avoiding MEGA lawsuits).
Anyway - I'm just saying that software makers can build anything into their product, including date specific limitations without the consumer ever being aware of it.
With the exception of this issue it otherwise works fine, and I guess I'll just have to deal with it from now on by dbl-clicking on Fla files TWICE instead of once - otherwise affectionately known as 'quadruple-clicking', (but if you count closing the error window then it's 'quintuple-clicking').
I don't mind being proven wrong - so if somebody out there knows what is going on here (besides my theory of software developers time limitations resulting in complete world domination) feel free to reply. I'll get an email telling me someone replied and I'll come to this post and have a look.
(suggestions to reinstall will be ignored - been there, done that)

  • NON-Flash User Wants to Edit and "Recompile" an SWF or FLA file...help??

Hello!! Although I am NOT new to Mac, I have NEVER attempted to edit an SWF file and I'm seeking an EASY way to do so. I think I might be CLOSE but I'm wasting time trying to figure it out so I'm posting here for some help...hopefully!! :-))
I also apologize because I did NOT know where to post this question so KINDLY direct me if I have posted in the wrong place!
Soooo, I have an complete, original .swf flash movie. It is a Holiday greeting but the VERY LAST frame has text that is NOT RELEVANT and I wish to change that text.
It appears that the text I want to change is (I do NOT know the correct term) a "layer" of graphic content for the last frame.
So, I have done TWO THINGS: I have used the Flash Decompiler app to (1) create an .fla file and (2) DECOMPILED the entire .swf extracting ALL the resources/objects that are used to create the original .swf animation. I have NO IDEA what to do with the .fla file...I know it is used to edit the animation but I do not have software to manipulate the file.
BUT, in the decompiled files, I HAVE LOCATED the one resource...a TEXT RESOURCE...that I wish to change. This extracted text resource is named "Dynamic text 293.swf", saved as in .swf format.
Now HERE is where I am STUCK!!...and I THINK this is the direction I would like to go:
    1. Open the Dynamic text 293.swf file in a format that allows me to EDIT THE TEXT I wish to change. HOW DO I DO THAT?? Can I convert it to a jpeg, edit the text, and then BACK to an .swf file?? Can I simply CREATE a JPEG and somehow SAVE IT as an .swf file to REPLACE the Dynamic text 293.swf file? Is there an EASIER/DIFFERENT way to edit the text in this Dynamic text 293.swf file?
    2. After editing the text in the Dynamic text 293.swf file, HOW DO I "RECOMPILE" the folder of alllll the extracted resources from the original .swf animation, NOW with this NEW/EDITED Dynamic text 293.swf file, and RECREATE the full .swf with the changes I made??
Again, I do NOT have FLASH or MACROMEDIA or any of those apps :-/ I DO have the .fla file conversion AND have isolated the SINGLE extracted resource file (Dynamic text 293.swf) that I want to edit.
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP Greatly appreciated!!
    Scott

That's a problem, since the format changes between jpg and swf when converted
probably won't just go back to their previous state, less the changed section.
The converter you have, is it a freeware to convert swf to fla; or what does it say
that it can do? In some cases, a flash video can be copied (perhaps illegally)
through use of a software such as Ambrosia's SnapZ ProX and a movie of any-
thing playing on your Mac can be copied. So, a movie could be paused at the
end where the unwanted content exists, so the copy would not have it recorded.
Snapz ProX - Ambrosia Software: (not freeware, has 'free trial' version)
    http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/snapzprox/
Otherwise, there are a few shareware and freeware editors for swf content; to
some degree or another they either convert content or allow some editing.
And this may only work as far as the item's creator allowed, if the file is locked.
' swf fla freeware editor Mac OS X ' - google search:
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=swffla+freeware+editor+Mac+OS+X&btnG=GoogleSearch&aq=f&oq=
I'd tried some basic editing of swf files a few years ago, and was able to only
convert the string of images into single-frame jpgs and work on each one,
but could not get them back into an swf. Perhaps graphic converter or other
software could do something for these; but I am inexperienced in all that.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Opening FLA file in CS5.5 compared to CS6 - possible glitches in CS6?

I've tried opening one of my FLA files from a client with CS6 and the components on the scene are mis-aligned,invisible and unselectable whereas if I open it in CS5.5, then it opens fine and everything is displays perfectly.
    Why would this be?

i've seen it before and could not explain it.

  • How do you make fla file the default document to test the project?

my default document is the swf file.  help me please.

You create your flash application in Flash Professional by creating new FLA file and editing it. The output (flash application) of this proces is SWF file. Which is then played by Adobe FlashPlayer.
When you test your project, the SWF file is exported and then opened by flashplayer.
FLA is your source file and you keep it on your computer for later editing.
SWF is your actual application and you deploy (copy) it on the server or wherever you intend to deploy your application.
If what you're trying to say is that you wish to debug your application, then test it not by pressing Ctrl+Enter, but Shift+Ctrl+Enter.

  • Beginner Question re: SWF files and FLA files

    Hi,
Im new to flash. I have some templates (in FLA format with all supporting files...xml; html; and the swf file). When using html templates, I can modify the content easily by simply adding or changing the text <p>original text</p> to <p>steve custom text</p> and so on.
My issue is Im trying to modify the content of the fla files into a new swf file but do not know how to access the text, background or images the tempalte is currently producing. The timeline at the bottom doesnt show objects and their timelines like the basic tutorials show me.
Is there a way to access the content of of an fla file or perhaps the content of an swf file? I think the swf file is like a jpeg coverted from RAW, meaning its the end product and the source file is where the modify is done.
Am I swimming in the deep with sharks?
    Thanks!

hmm..so if the template ive downloaded depicts a green ball bouncing across an orange  background(swf file). The objects (green ball) and the background (simply overlay colored orange) is embedded into the FLA AS3 code?
not necessarily.  they could be created with code, they could be created with the tools in the fla and they could be loaded bitmaps.
To be clear these objects (in my example: ball and background) are not external jpegs (or similar file type like png) which I can open, edit, then allow the code to access and utilize the new object. For example, change the ball into a square and changes it color to purple and then change the background to pink via PS or illstr.
In short, Im having trouble trying to find the objects which are being manipulated by the code. My current perspective with templates is to modify the image or text by accessing the files delivered with the template. If the .html commands to place image221.jpeg in certain div, I would just open the images files, find image221.jpeg, modifiy the image and then save it as image221.jpeg. Of course I can create a new image save it as steve123.jpeg, save it to the images folder and then modify the code to access the new file by using its new name.
This is what Im trying to accomplish with my flash template but cant find the source objects .
Im getting the impression this cant be done.
    that's almost certainly incorrect.
My final question is then, where are source images or text or movie files stored?
noone can say without direct inspection.
Is it possible they are on third party servers on the web?
    no
Are they imbedded in the code?
    maybe yes, maybe no.
I can only assume if they are stored on my drives (in an external format) that I would be able to access them.
correct.  more specifically, they would have to be in the directory with your embedding html and swf or a subdirectory.
If however, they are on a a third part web site or embedded into the code, then I may be in way over my head.
you can assume this is not the case.
so, open the fla in flash.  click control/test.  click view and make sure bandwidth profiler and streaming graph are checked.  you should then be able to see the main timeline as the swf plays.  note the main timeline frame where you see the object(s) you want to edit.
close the test environment and go to that main timeline frame and start sleuthing to see if the objects were created in flash.  you can also click on the first object in the library and arrow down looking for the object(s) you want to edit to see if they were created without code.  if you find them, note their library name and possibly linkage id or class.  use movie explorer to search for those names.
but, to be sure, it can be very difficult to edit templates.  i've not seen one yet that was made by a competent developer and i've worked on dozens of them.
