Flash Builder 4: Installation hangs

Hi,
just downloaded Flash Builder 4 and try to install, but installation hangs on at "Installing..." screen. What can cause the problem?
I use Windows XP SP3.

Where did you extract your installer to? There's a known bug where a subcomponent hangs when installing on windows when the path contains a leading space https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FB-26442.

  • Flash Builder 4.5 Hangs When Loading Large Projects

I recently upgraded from Flash Builder 4.0 to Flash builder 4.5.  I am running the 32 bit version of Eclipse Helios on windows 7, 64 bit.  I have installed the latest 32 bit Java build, jdk1.6.0_25
Smaller projects and libraries appear to build and run fine.  However when I attempt to load my main application, which is quite large, Eclipse Hangs for several minutes.  Occasionally it will return after some time, but as soon as I move the mouse cursor again it hangs again.  The last attempt had 1.8 Gigs of memory allocated to the eclipse process before I killed it.
Some other things I have noticed.
*) 4.5 does appear to be more sluggish for me generally than 4.0 for the demo apps I have built to test weather or not the install is working
*) If I do not attempt to actually open any files, I am able to clean the project and have it produce an executable
*) I have "build automatically" turned off, the problem does not seem to be initiated by the build. The problem seems to be something to do with loading large mxml files or files which include large mxml files.
*) The log files only complain about Eclipse being closed improperly (from me killing it aftter a prolonged hang) and about a collision with the ctrl+shift+G key combination
*) I have reverted to the original 4.0 plugin and the project still builds fine
*) Opening the stand alone flash builder 4.5 and pointing it at the same projects that work in 4.0 yields the same hanging symptoms as the 4.5 plugin version
*) I have juiced up my Eclipse memory settings and confirmed that they work quite well for my 4.0 build.  My Eclipse.ini looks like:
    -showsplash
    org.eclipse.platform
    --launcher.XXMaxPermSize
    256m
    -startup
    plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.1.0.v20100507.jar
    --launcher.library
    plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.win32.win32.x86_1.1.1.R36x_v20100810
    -product
    org.eclipse.epp.package.java.product
    --launcher.defaultAction
    openFile
    --launcher.defaultAction
    openFile
    -vm
    c:/Program Files (x86)/Java/jdk1.6.0_25/bin/javaw.exe
    -vmargs
    -Dosgi.requiredJavaVersion=1.5
    -Xms1024m
    -Xmx1024m
    -XX:PermSize=256m
    -XX:MaxPermSize=256m
I am really interested in several of of the new 4.5 features.  Any comments / suggestions welcome.  I am out of ways I know how to trouble shoot this short of rebuilding my app up from scratch by adding components one at a time, which would take a very long time.
If it would be at all helpful, I would be happy to drop by the San Francisco office with my laptop to trouble-shoot this
    -Chris.

When I run the application in the memory profiler under FB 4.0 it takes
    about 80MB of RAM peak.
I can not get the app to launch out of FB 4.5.
I have reproduced this issue on two different machines running only Eclipse
both stand alone and the plugin versions.
My machine has 4GB of RAM, my typical usage is less than 2GB.
Right now with FB 4.0 I am working on the problem project and a few sample
projects and Eclipse is consuming about 600MB which seems normal to me.
The confusing thing for me is that everything works fine and is responsive
with FB 4.0 and the issue does not seem to be actually compiling the
application, rather it has something to do with how FB is parsing my source
code that causes the hang.  Almost like somehow a circular dependency check
that used to work is now failing or something like that.
I am not sure how to find out what FB 4.5 is hanging on precisely.  I can only
see that the logs look normal and memory usage climbs out of sight while it
    is hanging.

  • Flash Builder Macintosh installation problem

I'm trying to install flashbuilder4_b2_mac_100509 on my MacBook running an up to date installation of Snow Leopard.  Despite having no other applications running, I get an error message right at the beginning of the process telling me to close all browsers. I have tried installing immediately after a reboot, again with no other apps running, and still get the same message.

There seems to be no longer a Flash Builder forum where you can post, but perhaps you can ask in the Flex forum?

  • Flash builder 4 installation somehow broke my flex builder 3 debuggin/running/profiling launch.

After installing flash builder 4 neither it nor flex builder 3 has been able to launch swf:s from flex. After hitting run or debug flex gives a prompt saying "Flash Player not Found. Flex builder cannot locate the required version of Flash Player. You might need to install Flash Player 9 or reinstall Flex Builder. Do you want to try to run your application with the current version?". The popup itself happened before installing flash builder 4. But normally I would just hit yes and it would use whatever flashplayer is default.
Now if I click yes it launches command prompt with a path to flex builder 3 installation folder. When running from flash builder 4, same happens except the path is the installation folder for flash builder 4. Flex then starts waiting for connection from debugger and after a while it prompts a timeout message. The command prompts title is ...\workspace\project\bin-debug\filename.swf.
When opening the swf files directly from windows they open fine.
I used the uninstaller software for flash player and then fetched both fp9&10 and reinstalled them. Which didn't help. When launching to browser everything works just fine, the problem occurs only when launching to standalone player. I tried to check registry settings if there would be something wrong, but all the paths for flashplayers seem to be ok.
Is there any other hope to fix this than reinstalling flex builder 3 & flash builder 4 from scratch?

You need content debugger FP installed
http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html download it from there and install and you should see the problem go away
Download the Windows Flash Player 10 ActiveX control content debugger (for IE) (EXE, 2.03 MB)

  • Flash Builder 4 Installation Problems

I'm having trouble using Flash Builder 4. I first tried to use it as a plugin for eclipse, which didn't work, as I got an error when trying to open .mxml files. The error is the same one discussed in another discussion: a null pointer exception. I tried to follow the solution to the discussion but couldn't figure it out. So after uninstalling and reinstalling Flash Builder in plugin form, I downloaded and installed it as a standalone. The installing worked fine but when i tried to open the application, all I got was the license agreement popup repeatedly, even after I pressed accept. I'm not sure what's going on, but I've been told that it's a licensing problem. Is there a quick fix for this?

Can someone please help me? I doubt that I'm the only one who has seen this problem before.

  • Flex Builder 3 installation hanging on Mac OS X Leopard

    Hi,
Excited to get going with the tutorial. Slightly disappointed by the installation of the Flex Builder 3 on my Mac OS X Leopard installation. I followed all instructions, ensuring that I closed all my open apps beforehand. The installer has been sitting at the "Installing..." stage with the message "Please wait, Abdobe Flex Builder 3 is being configured for your system. This may take a moment...". It's been displaying that for 20 minutes now, so I think it's safe to say it's not going to come back.
Looking around for clues, I can see another windowtitled "Flash Player 9 Silent Installer" which has a 100% blue progress bar below a label "Iterms remaining to be installed: 0"
Recommendations anyone? Am I safe to force quit the installation and retry? All tips welcomed!
    Stuart

It sounds like you have (or had... this was a month ago) the same problem as me. My solution is posted here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4052808

  • Disregard "Flash Player 12 installer hangs at 95% complete. Repeatedly." below.

I originally asked this question, then found an answer.
I followed a suggestion to trash an application support folder from the Library, and restarted. Then the installer worked OK.
Still not plekased with Adobe online help, and I can't find a way to respond to my own question, so I'm posting this instead.

We're getting a lot of these complaints with this latest update and Snow Leopard...
I made a PDF with illustrated, detailed instructions to resolve it: Snow Leopard Clean Install.pdf
Use THIS file with those instructions: Flash Player 12.0.0.44 (Mac OS X)

  • Brand New Build - Completing Installation Hangs

    Hey Guys,
I just bought all the following components for a new build:
    Gigabyte GA 965P-S3 MOBO
    Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 (1.8Ghz)
    1GB (2x512) Corsair DDR2 (667) RAM
    200Gb HGST SATA300 HDD
    256Mb XFX 7600GS GPU
    Pioneer DVR-112DBK
    And...Windows Vista Home Basic.
OK, so hardware wasn't a problem, had everything hooked up and neat within 2 hours.
Plug in the power and turn it on (it's alive!) with the Windows DVD in the drive, and boots to Vista installation...choose language/enter product key/accept licence blah blah...Copying Files...Expanding Files...Installing updates...computer reboots, back to installation.
Now the problem, the installation screen comes back up and displays ticks by all of the previous steps, and has the Completing Installation unticked and the three dots...waiting...waiting...waiting.
And thats it, Vista installation will go no further than that. Have left the installation on overnight and nothing happens. The HDD light will flicker every so often, and stay on constantly for a few seconds and then go off for ages.
After a while, I got fed-up of waiting, so I installed XP Pro and that worked first time like a charm, setup was complete in no longer than 45 minutes and within an hour all drivers had been setup.
I can't think why anything would impeed the installation, everything was spec'd to work with Vista.
I have tried 'unplugging the monitor cable' and toning-down the bios settings, but there was still no joy.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

I found a simple way to do things, and have done some home work.  I found out that most of the systems that are having problems with Vista are not realy Vista ready.   I have a laptop that was not build for Vista I have installed Vista premium edition on it. With the help of the guys at Munksupport Their service is free just clcik on th elive help sign on the right.
But here. all we have to do is get standard hardware devices, most of the newer hardware devices are not ready and if you are going use brand new hardware devices, get ready for a lot of hard work. I use to have problem with application not working properly, as The guys at MunkSupport proved, the older hardware devices that you are able to find drivers for under XP, that worked will work under Vista.
If you are not able to configure an XP system by going to the manufactures website and downloading and having that device running under XP forget trying to run Vista on that device. Most of these new devices will wirk well under XP because XP have drivers for thsoe devices in its drivers folder, C:\windows\Driver Cache\i386\driver.cab. Most device drivers are found their, that's why when you install some devices you do not need to install the drivers for it. Windows will find the device and install it for you.
The disk tha came with the device are often time updated drivers that ad functionallity to the device. For Vista they are not ready, that why we are having so many problems, their are confliting applications, and no one was ready for Vista release.  Older hardware may give you a slower performance but they  are the working ones.
When you install Vista, it reorders the driver.cab folder, they calle it the driver store now. and most of the support for thsoe drivers are not in that store for the newer devices. also due to the great amount of security they place it this Vista system, Most drivers wont work. Here is why
Most drivers will try to write in the Kernel area are RAM directly, But Vista have no heart for that, that's why everything you do under Vista you get that popup that asked you if you want to continue.
Simple, If you can configure the device to work and run undeer Xp chances are it will work under Vista.
To test this out her is what you do.     Under XP remove the drivers for your hardware devices except for your video and Network adapter, make sure you have backup. Visit the manufacturers website download the drivers and setup each device, after yo have down so get a windows update and see if thsoe devices still work. then install SP2 and use the system fro a few days, then install all of windows updates. see if any device fails, or if you run into any aspplication poblems, if so run another windows update, sometime updates mess upi your system. take note of everything you do then upgrade to Vista. If all things work out well
for information visit Munsupport.com, and ask thsoe guys they know their stuff. Some things may take a while to solve, but it's free and they get back to you.

  • Flash Builder's debugger is hanging my browser!

    Hi everyone!
I've been running into a situation where every time I try to debug my app, in Flash Builder my browser hangs!
I've tried installing both Flash Player debuggers I found on the Adobe site: The Windows Flash Player ActiveX control content debugger for Internet Explorer and Netscape compatible browsers.
Both IE and Mozilla freeze when my app tries to make a connection back to my local server (localhost), which stops either browser from connecting to Flash Builder.  Google Chrome simply cannot install the Flash Player debugger plugin.
I can't seem to get around this. There seems to be a bug in the Flash Player debugger!!
Does anyone know how to fix this?
I read from http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FB-16153 that the installed Flash Player is the wrong version. And reinstalling a debugger version of Flash Player 9 would solve it. But what if I need the Flash Player 10? Then what?
    Thanks.
    I'm working with:
    Flash Builder 4
    Flash Player 10.3
    Mozilla 4.0 Beta 7
    Internet Explorer 8.0.6

I think I can help because I had the same problem and I spent a lot of hours trying to fix the problem. I tried several solutions but none of them worked. The problem is that the Flash Player in the browser hasn't debugging capabilities. The link mention earlier, http://flashplayerversion.com/, is a really good one to check if your browser's Flash Player has this feature.
The solution for IE and Firefox can be found from this link http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html.
    Make sure you download:
Download the Windows Flash Player 10.1 ActiveX control content debugger (for IE) (EXE, 2.93 MB)
Download the Windows Flash Player 10.1 Plugin content debugger (for Netscape-compatible browsers) (EXE, 2.90 MB)
The first link will install debugger player for your IE and the second one for your Firefox. I think it's a bit misleading to mention "Netscape" nowadays, it should be switched to Firefox.
Because Chrome has the Flash Player integrated (which is GREAT) it does, however, cause more problems to get a debugger player for it. However, as long as I have at least one browser that makes debugging in Flash Builder function -- I'm happy!
One last thing, in Flash Builder make sure your web browser in Preferences is one that has a debugging supported browser. Go to Window > Preferences and choose General > Web Browser. Make sure the browser is either IE or Firefox. I also tried with Opera (v. 10.63) and it had the debugged version of Flash Player. So, Google just needs to do add a little improvement that developers can have a debugged player and everything is perfect.
    I hope this helps!

  • Can't change default installation directory for silent installation of Flash Builder 4.5

    Hello,
I'm trying to create a custom installation script for Flash Builder 4.5 in silent mode.
I have created a flash builder msi installer using "Adobe Application Manager Enterprise Edition".
I would like to change the default installation directory during silent installation.
    Could you please help ?
    Thank you in advance.
    Best regards,
    Ryad

The install.xml in the "Adobe Flash Builder 4.5 Installer/deploy" folder will have the INSTALLDIR property. You can change this property to your custom location.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <Deployment>
      <Properties>
<!--Note that the INSTALLDIR value is machine specific.  The value below is a suggested default value but may need to be overriden.-->
       <Property name="INSTALLDIR">C:\Program Files\Adobe</Property>
      </Properties>
      <Payloads>
    </Payloads>
    </Deployment>
