Flash Builder 4 - Web Services

Hi,
I am using the Flash 4 beta to connect to web services, my connections are fine and everything works as it should.
I added a call to the web services on a button Click event and noticed I need to somehow wait for the response back from the web services before continue with the click event. How do I wait for the result back from the web services call in a button click event?
Thanks
David................

Are you doing something like this -
protected function button_clickHandler(event:MouseEvent):void
webService.operation1();
.....some code here......
So, as the calls are aynchronous, you'll not get the response just after calling the operation.
You need to wait for the result from the operation call and do things after the result has come, something like -
private var operationResult:CallResponder = new CallResponder();
protected function button_clickHandler(event:MouseEvent):void
operationResult.addEventListener(ResultEvent.RESULT,resultHandler);
operationResult.token = webService.operation1();
protected function resultHandler(event:ResultEvent):void
// result can be accessed through operationResult.lastResult or event.result
.....some code here......

• Data Federator - Building Web Services Data Source - Request Guidance

Hello -
I am trying to build a web services data source in Data Federator.
I have:
1. In ECC, I have created a web service, proxy, port, endpoint, etc. and am testing it with WS Navigator
2. I have created a Project in Data Federator of the type web service
a. Here I have assigned the WSDL URL (generated in ECC) as the URL
b. I have setup web service authentication using the same userid, pwd in the web services definition (note: I have set the
web services authentication to 'NONE' to avoing authorization issues)\
c. I am now trying to "Generate Operations"
I keep getting the error :
The File Access Parameters are not valid (directory path = <HERE IS THE PATH TO THE WSDL WITH THE HOST/PORT stripped OUT>; file pattern = document
I believe that it is finding the WSDL, becuase when I change the WSDL from 'Document' to 'RPC', the error changes with the file pattern = rpc.
What needs to be done to the file access parameter piece.
PLEASE provide guidance.  Thanks.

Ananya,
We are using XI to load data to BI from source system. XI basically uses the same concept as Web Services - Real time data concept via RFC embeded in Proxies.
I was using web services to test data load - eventually we will use XI.
KJs blog is pretty good. I was able to get data loaded - after several iterations and several OSS notes. It is still not perfect - there are several manual steps . I am going to pick KJs brain on that.
We are on SP10 and looks like there are several bugs in RSRDA. Some of these are addressed in SP11 an SP12.
Some notes to consider are
0001003963, 0001008276,0001009260 and 001003265.
Let me know if you have any questions.

• Flash Builder autogenerated service code explanation

Hi
When you connect to some backend via the Flash Builder "service inspector", it autogenerates alot of code, which seems to be giving you some additionel intellisense. I'm very interested in some documents that describe whats actually being autogenerated and for what reasons. Because when you don't use the service helper, you can connect to a backend in like 2-3 lines of code.
Best Regards
Martin Andersen

Generally, the more specific you can be in programming the more efficient and less error prone the code is. The downside is that explicit declarations require much more typing.
The auto generator attempts to generate code that is as specific as possible, and provides you some strongly typed methods to wrap the calls in. The VO objects probably look the most strange, but I think a lot of that is just explicit binding declarations. There is also some functionality added for advanced server setups (like lazy loading and such).

• Help needed with flash and web service call

Hi all,
I need some help with web services and flash. I'm very new to flash, so please have that in the back of your mind when reading this :-)
I've got a .swf file, and I would like to display a number received from a web service (using adobe flash professional cs5). Ive added the web service and provided the WSDL, but when i try to "Add Method Call", nothing happens. Why? What am I doing wrong?
Hope someone can help

start with the button that causes the text to be displayed. find what it does (which may not be easy because most templates are coded by novice or intermediate level coders) and follow that trail to the text. (note: the text may be in a txt or xml file that's loaded.)
to have a button release open a file, use:
yourbtn.onRelease=function(){
getURL("http://www.adobe.com");

• Problem with building web service control

Hi i am using a web service control for invoking a web service. the application builds correctly from workshop and i am able to talk to web service. However, when i exported the ant build file from workshop and tried to build the application from prompt using ant, it gives me follwoing wrror -
[wlwBuild] [Build] Errors found in D:\crmwork\weboss\esb\ESBPrj\com\covad\esb\controls\BillingServiceSBControl.jcx:

[wlwBuild] [Build] Error at line 9 column 18:
Has anybody encountered this error? What could be the problem cause the workshop build works fine.

I solved the problem :-)
it happened due to JAVA_HOME env var. It has to point to jdk that comes along with wl812. mine was pointing to sun jdk 1.4.2. However, this is a bug, because, for wlwlbuild task , i was setting the proper bea java home, still it was failing due to system java_home var. And i did not face this problem with WL813. After facing lot of issues with 812, now i feel, 812 is not a stable production version.
Anyways, now the prob;em is solved.

• Build web service with value types

Hi,
I am trying to build a web service that uses a value type as a parameter.
I am using wscompile and wsdeploy to build the service.
But I don't know how to include the value type in my service.
This is what I do:
First I compile all the java files and put them in my build directory (incuding the value type class)
Then I use wscompile -define -d build -nd build -classpath build config-interface.xml -model build/model.gz
Then I create the war file that contains the class files, model.gz, web.xml and jaxrpc-ri.xml.
Then I run wsdeploy -o dist/generic-serv.war dist/generic-service.war
How do I get my value type class included in the wsdl file? and does it need to be in the model.gz file aswell?

Sorry I was a bit wrong describing my problem.
I am trying to use an ArrayList containing value types as a parameter.

I assume you have OC4J 10.1.3 webservices installed. Then you should not be using service-config.xml. Check out the 10.1.3 documentation about WebServiceAssembler. I am afraid, you are using 10.1.2 style service-config.xml along with 10.1.3 style WebServiceAssembler.

• How to receive bundled iDocs in PI and build web service call based on them

Hi experts
I have a challenge where PI 7.1 receives 1000 bundled iDocs of the same type and from these PI must generate 3 target messages (SOAP requests). The records in the iDocs must be mapped to one of 3 different target messages depending on the iDoc header value. The 3 target messages must be sent in a web service request to the same web service. The web service will thus be called 3 times, one for each request message.
Will it be possible to handle this using n:m mapping as described in help.sap.com (and then just using 1 source message in the mapping as the iDocs are of the same type) or is a java mapping required and if so, what are the pointers?
BR Mikael

>I just realized that I have to call 3 different operations on the same webservice
if you design different soap recv channels, then you can specify action value as specfic to each operation in each soap receiver cc. If you use same channel for all of them then you might have to use dynamic configuration to populate different operation as action in the communication channel.

• Problems with building web services - tutorial doesn't work

I've been going through this tutorial from technet.oracle.com -
trying to deploy the example stateless session bean service.
First problem comes when running the deploy command -
java -jar <j2ee_home>/admin.jar ormi://<host> <uid> <pwd> -deploy -file ejbws.ear -deploymentName ejbws.
This command fails insisting that it can't find application.xml (even though it is clearly in the .ear file).
Got around this by manually editing the server.xml file and bouncing OC4J. Then did the bind command. The first steps of compiling and running the client application then worked fine - I could see the .wsdl file and download the proxy jar.
But when I came to actually run the client I got the error:
Exception in thread "main" [SOAPException: faultCode=SOAP-ENV:Protocol; msg=Unsu

By manually copying the Hello.class file into the __session_bean_rpc directory I was able to get the example to run.
But how do I get it do deploy correctly in the first place????

I ran into the EXACT same problem described by Tracy, and I assembled my .ear file manually.
According the error message, it would appear that the server is looking for the EJB remote interface in the ../temp/__session_bean_rpc directory when it is trying to generate its session bean wrapper class. As Tracy notes, when the file Hello.class is copied into the directory, the problem goes away. Furthermore, once the wrapper class has been generated, Hello.class is no longer needed and can be deleted from the directory.
Better still, I found a way to deploy the web services web module and make the error go away. I created the ejbws.war file with a copy of the remote interface Hello.class in the WEB-INF/classes directory. This makes the class available when the wrapper class is generated.
The WebServicesAssembler tool doesn't copy the EJB remote interfaces into the .war web module, which would appear to be
necessary.
Hope this helps.

• What is much more efficient for building Web Services: RSS or Axis

Hi ,
i am focusing on a new feature in our web seftware product and we wish to integrate a web service communication allowing our customers to retrieve all needed data.
Ok now the problem, as far as the technical choice is concerned , i heard a lot about RSS and also about some SOAP engines ( axis, xfire,...) , si my question is which the best choice? what make one better then the other ? which is much more secure once implemented ?

Hello, has anyone done any integration with Java api or web services? Is any information available?

• Flash Builder SOAP service generation quirks?

Is there some documentation on the generated value object classes? I noticed a couple things today while trying to debug the generated value objects/service:
When a value object contains only a single property, it does not generate the value object. Ie, if class named "serviceClass" has a property named "serviceProperty" of type ServiceProperty, and ServiceProperty is a class with just a String. The generated "ServiceClass" value object will have a serviceProperty of type String.
When the service returns a single value object, flex returns with ObjectProxy rather than the specified strong type. When there's more than one, it returns with ArrayCollection with strong typed elements.
I'm wondering if there's something stupid I'm doing?

• Flash Builder 4.5 Data Services Wizard, setting up REST service call returns Internal Error Occurred

Dear all -
I am writing with the confidence that someone will be able to assist me.
I am using the Flash Builder Data Services Wizard to access a Server that utilizes REST type calls and returns JSON objects. The server is a JETTY server and it apparantly already works and is returning JSON objects (see below for example). It is both HTTP and HTTPS enabled, and right now it has a cross-domain policy file that is wide open (insecure but its not a production server, it's internal).
The crossdomain file looks like this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE cross-domain-policy SYSTEM "http://www.macromedia.com/xml/dtds/cross-domain-policy.dtd">
<cross-domain-policy>
<allow-http-request-headers-from domain="*" headers="*" secure="false"   />
<allow-access-from domain="*" to-ports="*" secure="false"/>
<site-control permitted-cross-domain-policies="master-only" />
</cross-domain-policy>
The crossdomain file is in the jetty server's root directory and is browseable via HTTP and HTTPS (i.e. browsing to it returns the xml)
Now before all of you say that using wizards sucks (generally) I thought I would utilize the FB Data Services Wizard as at least it would provide a template for which I could build additional code against, or replace and improve the code it produces.
With that in mind, I browse to the URL of the Jetty Server with any web browser (for example, Google Chrome, Firefox or IE) with a URL like this (the URL is a little confidential at the moment, but the structure is the same)
https://localhost:somePort/someKey/someUser/somePassword/someTask
*somePort is the SSL port like 8443
*someKey is a key to access the URL's set of services
returns a JSON object as a string in the web browser and it appears like the following:
{"result":success,"value":"whatEverTheValueShould"}
Looks like the JSON string/object is valid.
I went through the Flash Builder Data Services Wizard to set up HTTP access to this server. The information that I filled in is described below:
Do you want to use a Base URL as a prefix for all operation URLs?
YES
Base URL:
https://localhost:8443/someKey/
Name                    : someTask
Method                    : POST
Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded
URL                              : {someUser}/{somePassword}/someTask
Service Name: SampleRestapi
Services Package: services.SampleRestapi
datatype objects: valueObjects:
Completing the wizard, I run the Test Operation command. Remember, no authentication is needed to get a JSON string.
It returns:
InvocationTargetException: Unable to connect to the URL specified
I am thinking - okay, but the URL IS browseable (as I originally was able to browse to it, as noted above).
I continue to test the service by creating a Flex application that accepts a username and password in a form. when the form is submitted, the call to the service is invoked and an event handler returns the result. The code is below (with some minor changes to mask the actual source).
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<s:Application xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx"
xmlns:SampleRestapi="services.SampleRestapi.*"
minWidth="955" minHeight="600">
<fx:Script>
<![CDATA[
import mx.controls.Alert;
import mx.rpc.events.ResultEvent;
protected function button_clickHandler(event:MouseEvent):void
isUserValidResult.token = SampleRestAPI.isUserValid(userNameTextInput.text,passwordTextInput.text);
protected function SampleRestAPI_resultHandler(event:ResultEvent):void
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
// print out the results
txtAreaResults.text = event.result.message as String;
// txtAreaResults.appendText( "headers \n" + event.headers.toString() );
]]>
</fx:Script>
<fx:Declarations>
<SampleRestapi:SampleRestAPI id="SampleRestAPI"
fault="Alert.show(event.fault.faultString + '\n' + event.fault.faultDetail)"
result="SampleRestAPI_resultHandler(event)"
showBusyCursor="true"/>
<s:CallResponder id="isUserValidResult"/>
<!-- Place non-visual elements (e.g., services, value objects) here -->
</fx:Declarations>
<s:Form defaultButton="{button}">
<s:FormItem label="UserName">
<s:TextInput id="userNameTextInput" text="q"/>
</s:FormItem>
<s:FormItem label="Password">
<s:TextInput id="passwordTextInput" text="q"/>
</s:FormItem>
<s:Button id="button" label="IsUserValid" click="button_clickHandler(event)"/>
<s:FormItem  label="results:">
<s:TextArea id="txtAreaResults"/>
</s:FormItem>
</s:Form>
</s:Application>
It's a simple application to be sure. When I run it , I get the following returned in the text area field txtAreaResults:
An Internal Error Occured.
Which is equivalent to the following JSON string being returned:
{"success":false,"value":"An Internal Error Occured"}
It appears that the call is being made, and that a JSON object is being returned... however it does not return the expected results?
Again the URL constructed is the same:
https://www.somedomain.com:somePort/someKey/someUser/somePassword/someTask
So I am wondering what the issue could be:
1) is it the fact that I am browsing the test application from an insecure (http://) web page containing the Flex application and it is accessing a service through https:// ?
2) is the JSON string structurally correct? (it appears so).
3) There is a certificate enabled for HTTPs. it does not match the test site I am using ( the cert is for www.somedomain.com but I am using localhost for testing). Would that be an issue? Google Chrome and IE just asks me to proceed anyway, which I say "yes".
Any help or assistance on this would be appreciated.
thanks
Edward

Hello everyone -
Since I last posted an interesting update happened. I tested my Flex application again, it is calling a Jetty Server that returns a JSON object, in different BROWSERS. I disabled HTTPS for now, and the crossdomain.xml policy file is wide open for testing (ie. allowing every request to return data). So the app accessing the data using HTTP only. Browsers - IE, Opera, Firefox and Chrome. Each browser contained the SAME application, revision of the Flash Player (10.3.183.10 debugger for firefox, chrome, opera, safari PC; 11.0.1.129 consumer version in IE9,) take a look at the screen shot (safari not shown although the result was the same as IE and chrome)
Note that Opera and Firefox returned successful values (i.e. successful JSON objects) using the same code generated from the Data Services Wizard. Chrome, IE and, Safari failed with an Internal error. So I am left wondering - WHY? Is it something with the Flash Player? the Browsers? the Flex SDK? Any thoughts are appreciated. Again, the code is found in the original thread above.

• Problem starting with jwsdp2.0 to build a web service

i am using application server 9 and jwsdp2.0 to start building web services but i am finding difficuilties to start. i read the documentation but could not deploy the example web services. Is there any tutorial so that i can write a simple web service and deploy it in the application service right from the scratch.

Geoffrey,
Internal Server Error could mean many things. Sometimes just restarting the listner too quickly would cause this error. To make sure that is not the problem. Check the following.
1) Stop the listener, wait 20 seconds. then restart, do you get the same error?
2)Apache also gets this error if you have misconfigured either the jserv.properties or the zone.properties. Make sure that you have included the myfirstportlet.jar in jserv.prooereties and it points to the correct location. Also make sure that the location specified in the zone.properties actually points to your NEW provider.xml.
3) Look in jserv.log and mod_jserv.log within Apache\Jserv\logs. Do you have any error messages?
4) Can you call http://host.domain/servlet/IsItWorking
This is a sample servlet that comes with Jserv. If this works, then Jserv is working and something is specifically wrong with myfirstportlet. If this sample does not work, then you have misconfigured something in the files and all of Jserv is not working.
Hope this helps,
Sue

• Flex Application Only Compiles in Flash Builder

Hello,
I am a newbie trying to become familiar with Flex. I am starting by building and running some sample applications. For some reason, the applications will execute inside of FlashBuilder, but I am getting a compile error when I compile them on my linux box. The I used the Flash Builder remote services finder to generate the code for the remote service. The class that produces the error was generated by Flash Builder. I have appended the class at the bottom of this post. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
